The hotel and apartments provided are...

The hotel and apartments provided are of a basic standard. The rooms are cleaned daily, however the bed sheets are not changed.
The hotel provides no services, despite being given different instructions from the tour operator.
All of the services the chain of hotel and apartments [golden sands hotel and apartments] are complementary at this particular place [3]. Shuttle services run every 2 hours and are not specific to customers.
The receptionists at the hotel were extremely rude and impolite, were watching TV when asked to assist.
The phones only work sometimes and sometimes the phones cut off whilst your in mid conversation.
The hotels operation manager felt the need to pick up on one point 'you have run a bill on using your phone therefore there is no problem with the phones' - despite knowing that the engineer had to come and fix the phone.
The manager said it was not within the hotels policy to pass on messages to the guests and porter service is not available - even though other guests had the facility.
The receptionists would not call a taxi for us purely because this was not their job - Savoy 2 hotels down the road had receptionists who was only too happy to help.
Overall the manager and receptionists were indifferent to us making a complaint and were only too happy to give their names.
We felt discriminated against, at the golden sands 3 and if you were looking to stay there here’s the advice I would give - if you only want the room and no other service then it is sufficient.
If you would like internet access [very slow], porter service to handle your luggage, taxis and general assistance, I would recommend the Dolphin or Savoy or even Golden Sands 5 - very helpful.

Emirates flight, was calming, in flight staff helpful, food very good, small problem with in flight goods both ways, what every one asked for was not available. I think they possibly did not have any on board. Hotel arrival and stay.
The staff were very positive, helpful and friendly. The Hotel was a bit tired looking in places. However, all staff made up for any disappointments. The tour guide was excellent, guiding us towards the best trips. Booking a window seat in the Burg Al Arab and generally being helpful and informative on local eating and shopping
The hotel was booked from the Virgin site and rated as a three star. A lovely holiday that I would repeat and recommend to friends and family many thanks.

For travelling to Dubai for a 10 days...

Jan 2006, 12holiday

For travelling to Dubai for a 10 days holiday I travelled with Kuoni tour operators after considering a number of operators. I found them very helpful from the word go. They sent me a small booklet with my tickets containing vouchers and useful information. We were greeted well at the airport and were taken to our apartment without any problems.
I found the apartment very clean with all mod cons. For travelling around Dubai we found the metered cabs very reasonably priced and useful. There are lots of shopping mall for shopping and prices are more or less the same you would find in the UK. As the temperature drop in the evening people get out to shop in the souks (indoors markets)
There are lots of eating out facilities similar to the ones you would find in the U.K. All places are air-conditioned including shopping mall.
As Dubai is moving fast you would find lots of building sites but at the same time it is nice to visit some of the new tourist sits already built.

The accommodation was spacious, clean...

The accommodation was spacious, clean and good value for money. I stayed in a one bed roomed apartment which is divided into four areas: bedroom; containing two single beds, and storage facilities bathroom with shower, bidet, toilet and sink, kitchen; fridge, cooker, washer/dryer, cooking equipment and cutlery and living/dining room; with table and chairs, TV, telephone and bed settee.
The rooms were well air conditioned, essential as the temperatures outside rose to 40+ degrees. The staff were extremely helpful and well mannered and they went out of their way to help.
There was a gym, swimming pool and restaurant in the complex and in the lobby there were several tour companies to arrange activities such as desert safaris and city tours. We went on a desert safari with Arabian Adventures had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Dubai. We drove to a desert conservation area outside Dubai our driver/guide was very helpful and answered any questions. in the desert we drove over the sand dunes in a 4x4, visited a camel farm, and watched the sunset before arriving at a Bedouin camp. At the camp we had dinner, smoked a Shisha and had a ride on a camel before being taken back to the hotel at night time.
The hotel was central for local attractions such as the Gold Souq, Dubai Creek and Dubai museum. For sites further away such as the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Zoo and Jumierah beach we had to take a taxi. As we went during the summer season we had to take a taxi almost everywhere due to the heat, however as they were very cheap we didn’t actually spend that much on transport. There were many shopping malls and supermarkets near the hotel, within walking distance. There were also numerous restaurants and fast food outlets. There were more traditional Arabic restaurants near the souqs (about 5 minutes from the hotel), although the hotel restaurant did serve some local dishes.
On a more negative note the area around the hotel appeared to be a red light district, during the daytime the streets were full of prostitutes especially along the road, which leads to the nearest supermarket. However at night time the same area is very different with families and children playing in the streets.
Apart from this one fault our holiday was brilliant and I would definitely go back. I felt very safe in Dubai, more so than in other places I have visited. The people are very friendly and helpful and there is lots to see.
