Angaga Island reviews

1 / 10
Dec 2010, Meagan

Having read all the raving reviews we decided to visit Angaga Island for our second trip to the Maldives in May 2010. Previously we stayed in Veligandu and were impressed by the whole experience. We were expecting similar conditions, especially having paid more for Angaga.... more

fabulous honeymoon on Angaga
As a start to a holiday the seaplane transfer and short boat trip across the lagoon, followed by a warm and friendly greeting, cool scented flannels and a cocktail, has to be hard to beat. And the rest of the holiday really lived up to this standard, as follows: 1. the Island With a very laid-back, relaxed atmoshere, Angaga is fabulous if you just want to do nothing or very little. The island is extremely beautiful, with soft white sandy beaches all the way around (although as a previous reviewer points out the beach is rather... more
Wonderful and Relaxing
We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Angaga - just the tonic for a stressed IT executive and his wife! I'm already planning my next Maldives trip having returned to snow and now rain. Outward journey: Flew with Sri-Lankan direct from LHR to Male. Good airline with plenty of legroom and decent food/entertainment (tip - join their Skywards club and you can reserver your seats in advance). Usual slick transfer to seaplane flight - within two hours of touching down at Male we were on the island with cool towels and a fruit... more
Honeymoon in Angaga
We spent 13 days in Angaga on our honeymoon in September 2006. We travelled from Bucharest, Romania via Istanbul, and from there with Emirates to Dubai and then Male. The transfer with the seaplane was great, marvellous views, however extremely hot. We arrived at Angaga after more than 20 hours of flying and we were extremely exhausted, but when we saw the island we immediately woke up. The first evening and the following day were a bit annoying as it rained most of the time. We stayed in a water bungalow (room 155 was... more
Great little island
I'll start by saying that we had pretty dreadful weather during our two weeks at Angaga, unusual for December in the Maldives. At the resort, they told us that they hadn't experienced the normal rainy season around June and suggested that it had arrived late! So we had lots of wind and rain, very rarely blue skies which made snorkelling a bit tricky, sometimes impossible as the house reef (which is absolutely excellent if you can access it!) was on the side of the island enduring the strong winds. The sea was pretty rough most days. <br... more
Great Snorkelling
We arrived for 9 nights by seaplane. The setting is magical with only the water villas spoiling the landscape. On arrival we were told that the room we had booked was not available and if we would like to stay in a water villa for 2 nights at no extra expense we could do. I purposely did not book a water villa as I do not like them. They then offered us a suite on 2 floors. This was not acceptable as the bathroom was downstairs and the bedroom upstairs and we get up in the night and had visions of falling down the stairs! We were then... more
Fabulous island and weather!!
I stayed 8 nights in a Water Villa on Angaga this month. I arrived at the beginning of July, and was worried about the weather, worried about the transfers, etc! It was my first time in the Maldives, and overall I had a great time!! Here are my thoughts... Travelling to Maldives: I flew direct to Male, with Sri Lankan. The flight was 10 hours or so and I was in an early row (8), which I thought was better as it felt smaller than the many rows together in the back. Check in was a nightmare - I arrived 3 hours before departure... more
Simply fantastic!
Angaga is gorgeous - exactly what you would expect a tropical paradise island to look like. You can walk round the island in 15 minutes or so, but inevitably it takes longer as you swish through the turquoise sea, ogling the fish or watching the resident heron ‘at work’. There are two distinct ‘sides’ to the island. The ‘back’, where the house reef is closest to the beach, has uninterrupted views over the ocean but is also windier (at the time of year we went, January). The other side faces the lagoon (and the water bungalows)... more
Fantastic hotel - great staff!
Not been to Maldives before but discovered Angaga through German language diving website. This is truly a paradise - small but has everything you would want including diving and snorkelling, spa treatments, day trips. Recommend the Water Villas over the Beach Bungalows, worth the extra money. Best of all the staff and the best guy is the General Manager Ramesh Ramachandran - he was the perfect host. Polite and knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble and he met every request we had quickly and courteously.
Paradise
We do not want to really review this paradise - being selfish, we do not want too many people to find it! We have never been back to same place twice (and we are very well travelled). We have to make an exception with Angaga and are going back again in February 2006. The island is truly beautiful, we were pampered by staff, fed and watered (fantastic bar and restaurant) to remarkably high standards and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We really felt like royality throughout our whole stay. The beautiful white sandy beach is... more
Peace & Quite!!-That's Angaga!!
My wife and I have just returned from Angaga, we would definately recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quite. Whilst you can walk around the island in less than 20 mins. it has two distinct sides to it, rooms 101 to 130ish are on the reef side of the island and have a cooling breeze, while rooms 131ish to 150 are on the sheltered lagoon side and while having a calmer sea, offer no respite from the seering heat. It is a very big Dive island,if you don't dive (the snorkelling is excellant),you have the island just about to... more
