Seriously relaxing time. The service is great. The scenery is stunning. Plenty of activities available which you don’t get on the smaller islands, i.e. tennis, football.
All accommodation is either on the beach or is a sea bungalow. Restaurants are buffet style but offer plenty of choice. The Japanese and Italian are a la carte and well worth a visit as well.
Entertainment at night is low key but you couldn't expect much more.
Surprising number of shops on the island. The hotel through in a couple of free excursions which is surprising.
All in all a great time wouldn't hesitate to go back.

After three fairly long flights and the final sea plane transfer we arrived in the gorgeous island that would host us for 2 weeks!
We were very tired and keen to get to our room. We had booked a deluxe room, cheapest option and we weren't too disappointed. The deco was hideous but the room was spacious and the bathroom was bright and clean. We knew we had an outdoor shower, so no complaints there!
The disappointment came in the morning when we discovered that our 'bit' of the beach was pretty crap. If you are considering a stay in Sun Island, please pass on the Deluxe rooms, the rooms worth having are those numbered 120 to 180.
The water bungalows are over-rated, you are further from the beach than anybody else and the lagoon is home to sting rays. We never saw anybody swimming there.
The food is good and there is plenty to choose from, don't get me wrong, nothing to write home about, but don't leave too much room for desert, they look great but are tasteless.
If you don't drink tea or coffee for breakfast but hot chocolate or herbal teas, take your own as only these two hot drinks are provided.
Keep a close eye on the mini-bar. We were charged for little things that we had not consumed and we noticed a candy bar going missing to make its appearance back only a few days later!
Everybody expects a tip but believe me, not all of them deserve it. We encountered some amazing, friendly staff as well as miserable, inefficient people.
I suspect you are not thinking of flying to the Maldives to watch telly but if you are and are not all inclusive, expect to pay $10 per day for this luxury.
All those on B&B, HB and Full Board basis ought to pay to use the gym, pool tables, pin pong tables, sauna, Jacuzzis and darts! Believe it or not, darts come at a premium!
All in all, not a bad holiday destination but if you can afford to pay a little more, I would probably recommend to go elsewhere.

Sun Island resort is one of the largest resort islands in the Maldives.
From the moment you arrive at Sun Island you realise Paradise does exist! Turquoise clear waters, fine white sand and lazy days in the sun await.
If you like a bit of action on your holiday then Sun Island won't disappoint. Sun Island has its own Diving centre, gym, tennis courts, volleyball and water sports area. There are fishing trips and boat trips to other islands too.
The service, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff is second to none. The food heavenly and there is plenty of choice.
We stayed in a Water bungalow (not cheap) but it was our Honeymoon and we believe worth every penny. From the Water Bungalow you can enter the sea via your own private steps. The snorkeling is fantastic, plenty of colourful fish surround you. If you want a relaxing, peaceful holiday, Sun Island is hard to beat.

This was a wonderful hotel with a wealth of facilities included. The rooms were plenty big enough, and exceptionally clean as they were serviced twice a day with fresh towels and bed sheets, and bottles of mineral water.
The food was always delicious and varied, try the omelette at breakfast, or the freshly caught fish served each evening. Cosmos also include two free excursions per week - try the sunset fishing, they even BBQ your catch afterwards!
The staff were lovely and friendly, always eager to fill your glass and if it gets too hot the pool is lovely and the sea even lovelier. Watch out for the baby sharks and stingray though!
Try snorkelling, its beautiful, and the manta ray excursion was breathtaking. We would definitely recommend upgrading to the seaplane transfer as this is an experience in itself. And hire bikes to get round the island as it is both fun and practical!
Only downside that makes it 9 rather than 10 is that you have to sign for everything you eat, drink or do, despite it being included. However, this is apparently due to tax purposes so is unavoidable, and you soon get used to it.
I went with my boyfriend and had a lovely romantic and very relaxing holiday, I'm sure you'll find the same!! Enjoy!

The island is beautiful and the snorkeling and diving the best ever and staying in a water bungalow was really fantastic as you use your room as a base to go for endless snorkeling raids around the island. The dive center was absolutely fabulous, well equipped and organised, with friendly and efficient staff.
Unfortunately the praise stops when it comes to the hotel facilities and their conception of all inclusive. The only thing they seem interested in is raking your pockets to squeeze the last dollar out of you. Even in the all inclusive, you can build up large bills if you are not careful. You have to sign for everything you order, a beer at the bar, signature, a meal at your dedicated table with your dedicated waiter, signature, and if you are lucky you will get a smiling dedicated waiter, if not you are stuck with him for the duration of your stay.
The hotel decides what time you will leave the island on your last day, we were on the 14h45 plane, but our all inclusive ran out at 12:00, do not think for one minute the hotel will cater for lunch or drinks, If you have paid your bill you cant even buy a drink or a meal as currency has no value on the island, all expenses are put on your room number, so if you no longer have a room, you've had it.
On top of this the atmosphere in the hotel is as calm as a funeral parlour and if you don’t tip generously the staff are not so smiley.
In a nutshell if your only interest is the sea and diving, by all means go there, on the other hand if you want to be pampered at a fair cost in a holiday happy atmosphere, then go to the Dominican Republic.

Following a worrying start at Manchester airport where we found that some of the seats on our flight had been double booked (!) we were relieved to be seated together and more importantly actually on the flight and enjoyed a comfortable journey with our 22 month old daughter. We arrived at Male airport and from then on received warm and friendly service. The sea plane flight transfer was a fantastic experience and highly recommended, and upon reaching our dessert island we knew we were going to spend our 2 week honeymoon in paradise.
We were meet by the staff at Sun Island with cold drinks whilst our luggage was taken to our room, we'd upgraded to a superior deluxe room from standard and would recommend doing this as it was on the slightly calmer side of the island. The accommodation was lovely, clean little beach front bungalows, if a little basic for 4* serviced daily though by friendly staff. The main restaurant had an impressive array of choice as were the other little specialist restaurants around the island, there is even a pizza delivery service directly to your room (or sun bed!)
We were one of a minority of parents with small children on the island but well catered for with the reassurance of even a small hospital on the island and the availability of 'Huggies’ nappies! Swimming in the sea was great and very calm on 'our' side of the island with little fish coming to investigate, but be cautious about the stingray and baby sharks!
Although the island is only about a mile long it's worth hiring a bike to cycle around the island, mainly as it's good fun but there are chauffeured golf buggies available to save your legs after an evening out at one of the restaurants or little bars.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and great weather every day although 2 weeks is enough on a fairly small island as I think cabin fever would start to set in after any longer!

We honeymooned in Sun Island for two weeks, after first having visited Sri Lanka.
We'd done a lot of research prior to booking so we were prepared for things like the all inclusive coming to an abrupt halt at midday on the day of your departure. We made sure we had a large and late breakfast, ordered our last all inclusive drink at 11:55am and played a board game whilst enduring the 2 and a half hours of being packed up and waiting for your departure time. I do think S.I. could handle people's departures better though as I can see how suddenly being unable to even buy anything after midday might leave a negative impression.
Overall though, we loved the place and would definitely go back.
Our advice:
*make sure you go and watch the sting ray feeding at 9pm each night - it's amazing!!!! These stunning creatures actually swim right up and let you pat them as you hand feed them.
*the "hello neighbours" trip isn't that interesting, but if you do go, take some cash as there's a chance to buy souvenirs.
*we came armed with a ton of mosquito repellants but didn't find them to be any trouble on the island - except when we were on the village island during the "hello neighbours" trip!
*the sunset fishing trip is really worth doing as it's easy to catch a fish. The fish is BBQ'd and served at about 9:30pm. You return from the fishing trip at about 7:30pm and end up having dinner, which means you don't feel like going to the BBQ and tasting the fresh fish that you've just caught. S.I. don't make a big deal of this, referring to it as just "fish and salad", so everyone tends to have dinner anyway and out of the 44 people on our trip, only 6 turned up to the BBQ which we thought was a huge shame as the fish is AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS, the salad simple but lovely, and you still get your all inclusive drinks, plus you get to choose your fish and watch the chef prepare and cook it in front of you in a different restaurant from your usual one.
*take snorkeling gear - beside the Italian restaurant you will see some great fish!
*the super-deluxe rooms are really good and worth the extra money.
*hiring bikes is lots of fun and will come in handy when you go to watch the sting rays
*don't let a certain member of the bar staff dictate where you sit. We found the waiters to be really hard working and friendly... except the one we encountered on our first day who told us that he would be our waiter and that he only served a certain area! We hardly saw the guy and when we did he thought he'd make up for it by serving doubles which isn't always what you want!!!! So we quickly latched on to other, more efficient bar staff.
* The evening entertainment isn't wild but we found it to be varied enough and good, except, bizarrely, they have no entertainment on Saturday nights!
* The Jacuzzi is lovely!!! It's not hot and sometimes after a game of tennis we'd relax in the cool Jacuzzi with a book - really lovely.
* The romantic massage that you can get as a couple is just gorgeous... but you have to quickly get over the fact that the little towels don't really protect your modesty!
*being able to order a pizza and have it delivered was a novelty, but also the pizza was really delicious!
*because you have your own table at the main restaurant and stick to it the entire time you can leave things on there. EG: we noticed some people had little bottles of Tabasco sauce or breakfast spreads on their table which we thought was quite a good idea.
*just like anywhere, you have to get up pretty early to get the best sun loungers.
*the freshly made omelettes cooked right in front of you are just delicious!
*the Thai restaurant does a happy hour on cocktails from 5:30-6:30pm. When we went there it was pretty quiet, but it was a nice place to have a cocktail and the cocktails are really good.
*the romantic meal is definitely worth doing, but bring your appetite as it's about 7 courses long!!!!
The island is pretty calm and in some ways, lacking in atmosphere as it doesn't have much of a night vibe. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Ibiza, just a sense that it's night time and the atmosphere has changed.
Before we went we worried about the possibility of rain. I think it rained on 3 of the 14 days we were there, but actually we enjoyed those days just as much - it was lovely to relax in the bar and read or play board games whilst waiters brought drinks over to you whenever they noticed our glasses were even nearing empty!!!!
We also packed way too much. You find yourself wearing swimsuits throughout the day (covering with t-shirts/sarongs for meal times), and something pretty casual at night as well.
We loved the fact that, although it was a large island and there were quite a few people there, you hardly ever had to wait for things. There was pretty much always a pool table free or tennis court, and generally people didn't bother you unless you wanted them to, which was perfect for our honeymoon!
We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place. There are 1000 staff on the island and they are all hard working and friendly (apart from the waiter we encountered on our first day!!!).
We'd recommend it for anyone who wants a relaxed, lazy, laid-back holiday in a beautiful place.
