Veligandu Island Resort

This was our 2nd visit to Veligandu and it was an absolute pleasure to be back. We requested and got the same room as out first visit - one of the deluxe beach villas, next to the excellent spa. These rooms are built on the island but have a large deck stretching out over the ocean, with steps straight into the sea. The quality of the rooms is good and the water bungalows are apparently some of the best in the Maldives.
The restaurant is large and divided into smoking and non-smoking. The food is excellent, with a mix of international and traditional offerings at every meal. We were looked after the same waiter as last time and he continued to praise the island management for their investment in training for the staff - there is a waiting list of people wanting to work there. The bar is an open area, with a large outside deck. The staff are excellent, learning your names and favourite drinks almost as soon as you arrive.
The diving is very good here, with an excellent house reef for those who don't want the hassle of boat dives. Even if you only snorkel, you're guaranteed to see a wide variety of wildlife. For the more adventurous, there is a 5am dive to a site where hammerhead sharks may pass through, but the 'success' rate is only about 50%.
If you want a relaxing holiday, in comfortable surroundings, with attentive but not overbearing staff then this is the place for you. Enjoy.
