I wish i had seen this web site...

Jun 2008, Ms L Duckworth

I wish i had seen this web site before setting foot the the Sand Club Apartments. We arrived at lunch time and the lady in reception gave us the 'dodgy' map and left us to find the apartment ourselves. We had been at the airport since about 4.00am so were pretty knackered, in need of a shower and a couple of beers. When we eventually found the apartment we were horrified, the door had obviously been kicked in at some point and, although mended, no longer fitted its space, on entering the room i wanted to cry, the living accomodation was basic and not very clean and the bedroom was just disgusting and filthy. There was no way that i could have slept in this room and i went back to reception to complain. I complained to the Spanish lady in reception and although she showed me another room it was quite frankly not suitable and again very unclean.
We went to the Sunset View Club which is just next to the Sand Club and were treated very sympathetically but the staff there who managed to accomodate us with a lovely 1 bedroom apartment with all the things that the Sand Clubs web page offered but did not deliver.
PLEASE! DO NOT BOOK THESE APARTMENTS UNLESS VIA THE INDIVIDUAL OWNERS AS THE ACCOMODATION ON OFFER VIA THE HOLIDAY COMPANIES IS ABSOLUTELY VILE.

I had been on to this internet site...

Jan 2008, Mr G A Swift

I had been on to this internet site before we went to Tenerife, so I had some idea about the accommodation. We got to the resort at aprox 8pm, and had a basic map of golf del sur from another internet site BUT when trying to find the accommodation could not see any signs, so went around the resort road again, the resort is one way so it should have been simple. So to be sure asked a local taxi driver if he could help. He drove to the accommodation.
The reception was in darkness with no lights on either inside or outside. The sign above was in darkness and difficult to see at night, but there is a bus stop outside. Spanish security guard spoke no English but did take us to the accommodation.
The accommodation looked clean and tidy but was basic. In the morning the resort was quite pleasing not untidy plenty of places to eat with a Netto supermarket and other shops. The food was mostly English with places offering cooked breakfasts and good evening meals. The entertainment at night ok But this is not disco land.
All in all the accommodation is ok but if you are looking for comfort, this accommodation will leave you wanting.

This was the worst holiday of my life...
1 / 10
Nov 2007, Ms CLW W

This was the worst holiday of my life and I have travelled the world and stayed in hostels. The only word I can use to describe this resort is vile! We arrived to this place in the middle of the night to find no tour operator, then found ourselves waiting for a lengthy amount of time before someone finally arrived! We then had to find our room that was like crystal maze and on our way found ourselves being attacked by a vicious dog that had escaped someone else's apartment and was wandering around the resort!
When we finally arrived at what they called a room, we were unable to open the door due to a faulty lock and as we then entered the room we were welcomed to an unhealthy unclean kitchen and bathroom, cockroaches and a dirty bedroom that I was too frightened to sleep in. To top this off the pool was so filthy you could not get in it and also we were never warned about how close the planes were and how often they flew over!
In addition to this the room was not cleaned once while we were there for a week and we only received clean towels on the first day we were there.
As this holiday was such a disgrace we ended up booking in to another hotel for a few nights as we simply found ourselves dreading our the return to this resort.
I strongly recommend not to go anywhere near this resort! The only solution to the issues that this place has is it to be demolished!

Like a previous reviewer, we wondered...
7 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr David Ross

Like a previous reviewer, we wondered what we had let ourselves in for as the reports were not generally favorable. However, taking all things into consideration we were quite pleased with the accommodation ;bearing in mind that we had not paid much for it.
The overall complex was clean, bright and tidy. There were obvious efforts being made to make it an attractive place to stay. The pool and pool area was clean but unfortunately the sun beds had seen better days. It was a shame the bar has been shut for well over a year, but we got the feeling that gradually things were improving. On most days there were plenty of kids of all ages (and adults) having loads of fun in the pool.
We had two rooms which were clean and served the basic purpose that we wanted them for. The maid was in every two days so we had no complaints there. They are not top class rooms it has to be said, but we never paid top dollar, so we never expected them to be. Basic but suitable facilities, spacious and plenty of storage in the bedrooms. We have certainly stayed in worse - and paid more for the pleasure.
The resort itself (San Blas) is quiet but nonetheless rather pleasant. Not for party animals but the evenings were nice sociable affairs with no hint of loutish behaviour whatsoever. Regrettably, I cannot agree that all the eating establishments were great. We did indeed have some very nice meals but equally we visited one or two places where quantity (invariably chips or rice) took preference over quality. The places of a better standard were off the main strip where although the service was slower but the food more than made up for it.
Overall we had a reasonably pleasant stay at Sand Club and San Blas. It is not a place to go to improve your Spanish as virtually all the establishments are run by Brits - and it is for that reason that we would probably not go back there. But, it was certainly not as bad as some of the reviews have portrayed and we had a nice stay if not outstanding. Oh, and the planes did not bother us at all.

This complex over all was a holiday...
2 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss S Page

This complex over all was a holiday from hell. We arrived to find there was no one there to greet us and give us our room keys so we had to wait 1 hour for someone to turn up. There is no pool bar but states on the internet there was. Residents said it has not been open for 2 years. Again it states on internet there is a kettle in the rooms, but we found out that you had to hire this. The electrics in the apartment were all hanging of the walls and sparking. To top it all there was road works every morning at 8:30. We were told by freedom direct that we were 10 mins walking to the nearest town but we found out that it was 20 mins by taxi. We were also told that there is lots of things for the kids to do. Well that was lies too, because there is nothing, no discos for them, no hair braiding, etc. there is nothing. Don't forget the beach which they said there was, to find that its cliff tops looking over the sea. So as you can see my family of 10 had a great disappointment of a expensive holiday.

We normally book our holidays direct...
7 / 10
Jun 2007, Mr P Smalley

We normally book our holidays direct with the owner - through various web sites. We have been to Golf Del Sur before.
This was our first time at the Sand Club. My wife likes the overall design of the complex with its white wall and terracotta roofs.
The apartment had plenty of room and was well equipped. Another reason why we those it was because it had a double bed. We do not like single beds. The apartment was very clean as is the complex.
The pool is the only facility on site but is a good sun trap, but the complex is next door to a lot of restaurants and bars. As the owner sent us the keys, we did not use Reception.
We also found the car park at the end of the complex handy and there was always space to park our hire car. If you have a hire car and need to buy any food - the Mercadona supermarket near the motorway is cheaper than the local Netto.

We had a great time. I am glad we...

Jun 2007, Mr M Dawson

We had a great time. I am glad we read the reviews before booking.
We followed the advice to go direct from an owner and not with the holiday companies. I used the negative reviews to beat him down on price.
The apartment had everything we needed, it was very clean, and the lad who looked after the apartment for the owner even took us back to the Airport. The welcome pack was a nice touch.
The complex only has a pool with sun beds and nothing else. Do not believe what the holiday companies put on their web sites about the complex facilities – there is no internet connection or poolside bar.
We never used reception, but there was a sign outside saying it was closed between 6pm & 8pm, but on a couple of nights it was open between these times. Perhaps it’s when they cannot get the staff.
The Sand Club is handy for the local bars and restaurants and the Golf course. We recommend you try the submarine safari from the local marina – it is a totally different experience.
Another tip is to change your money at the Spanish Style Shop in the local centre, as it gives the best exchange rate and no commission.
As with other reviews we would not recommend Golf Del Sur to party goers or lovers of beaches, it is too laid back with only 1 night club and the beach is made of pebbles just like Brighton but without any scene! Someone at one of the bars told us next year they will be putting sand down on the beach.

My husband, my 16 year old daughter,...

May 2007, Mrs L Dakers

My husband, my 16 year old daughter, and I went to Sand Club apartments. We had booked before we looked at reviews and after reading reviews we thought "what have we done" because most of the reviews were terrible!
We arrived at night taxi driver did not scam us, it only cost us 15 Euros! When we arrived at reception security guard said good evening to us in English, gave us our key and explained where our apartment was in English and he also gave us a map.
We found our apartment very easily within a few minutes. The San Blas shopping centre was great, loads of restaurants, shops, a supermarket and everything was open!
Everybody was really friendly couldn't meet nicer people; no one was rude at all ever!
Female receptionist was very polite and explained everything to us in English!
Apartment was basic but we didn’t pay for 5* treatment and didn’t expect it when we got there. As for the TV you do expect Spanish channels on a Spanish island! Any way who wants to watch TV when you’re having a great holiday!
The cleaners were in changing sheets and towels every 2nd day and cleaning apartment which we didn't expect because we did go self catering.
We had an excellent time and had no problems with anything.
Recommend any of the restaurants because the food was fantastic in all of them, and the restaurant owners were all extremely nice!
Hopefully going back next year or later this year because we had such a great time.
Hired a car which is very cheap and went into Los Cristianos which was great if you can avoid being accosted by people trying to sell time share, where as in Golf Del Sur you don’t get any of that, so you can actually enjoy your holiday!

We went to the Sand Club apartments...
8 / 10
May 2007, Miss K Dee

We went to the Sand Club apartments and it was great! There was so much to do bars, restaurants, shops everything!
Hired a car to Los Cristianos was a ten min drive away and the beach was amazing, everyone enjoyed it a lot!
Apartment was basic but what do you expect for you're money, 5 star luxury? I don’t think so!
It was clean and the cleaner came every 2nd day to give us clean sheets and change our bins etc. The security man at night could not have been nicer, he did speak English but if he didn’t.
That goes for the TV in the room as well, people complain there was no English channels but you’re kind of like in Spain, so it’s going to be Spanish channels! Anyway why would you want to watch TV on holiday?
The pool was great rather cold though but hey ho it was still fun!
It was such a great holiday after all and yes the apartment was a bit simple, but that was no problem at all, because we were too busy going out and enjoying ourselves!
I like totally recommend it to anyone.

These apartments are by far the worst...
1 / 10
Apr 2007, Mr C Brown

These apartments are by far the worst I have ever stayed at in 30 years of continental travel.
I arranged the holiday myself, booking these apartments through Travel Republic who boasted numerous facilities which simply didn't exist or were not in operation when I was there - they don't come out of this well at all and won't accept any responsibility.
I'll try to be concise - broken furniture, doors hanging off (the first sight to greet us when we walked in was a door lying in the middle of the floor), cockroaches galore, filth, nothing ever cleaned, bed linen far too small or ripped, lights which didn't work - I think the problem is that most of these apartments have been sold off to private owners and whoever is in charge of the rest can't be bothered looking after them properly.
Don't even consider the Sand Club no matter how cheap and if booking anywhere with Travel Republic check out on sites like this whether their listed facilities actually exist.

Arrived fairly late at night after...
2 / 10
Feb 2007, Mrs CE Marriott

Arrived fairly late at night after being ripped off by taxi driver, to be met by usual Spanish surliness.
Security Guard, who could barely speak English, took us down to our apartment.
Apartment large but shabby with plaster falling off the walls, large patches of damp, cockroaches, broken bed, lights not working. Sheets that didn’t cover the beds fully and a bathroom door that wouldn’t lock.
The whole place has a run down look about it; reception staff are rude, aggressive and disinterested in their guests.
It does however have a nice pool, although the aircraft landing every 5 minutes just over your head does tend to spoil the enjoyment.
Apartment "cleaned" once during our stay.
San Blas is a small resort with no beach, a handful of mainly British run restaurants, which are much more expensive than Los Cristianos and no other facilities other than golf courses.

Having read other reviews about the...
8 / 10
Feb 2007, Mr A Shut

Having read other reviews about the Sand Club after we had booked, we were a bit apprehensive, however we had booked the apartment through a website directly from the owner and was able to talk to her.
We had the key posted to us in advance along with a great information booklet, so we just went straight into the apartment after paying the taxi. It was only 16 euros.
We did not need to use Reception during our stay, however, it is shut between 6 to 8 pm & the security guard between 8pm and 6am does not speak very good English.
Also from the recent specks of paint in the garden it looked like the outside had just been repainted.

The apartment was very clean and big. We did not see a single roach or other insect during our stay. It had everything we needed including a washing machine!
There was a welcome pack that included a couple of bottles of wine. We liked the fact we had a large double bed. The owners did not charge us for any extras like the safe.
In fact we could easily have lived there. They also had a local agent, who was British, who we could contact anytime if we had a problem. Not that we did & he even gave us a lift back to the airport.
The pool was very quiet, but a great sun trap as our tans show. There is no bar as this was apparently shut down because it did not have the right paperwork. This was no problem as we had brought our cool bag and stocked it beers from the fridge and froze a bottle of water.
The local commercial centre has lots of bars and restaurants; many speak English very well, as Brits own them. We even found a fish and chip shop. The weather was brilliant and so was the golf (you need to bring your handicap card) and we are going again.
The area is by the flight path so there is noise from the jets as they come into land, but we soon got used to that. I also would not recommend the area if you have teenagers who want to go out clubbing there aren’t any. Which was great for us!
Finally, if I have any advice to give - it is do not book the Sand Cub through the holiday companies. The best apartments on the site are not owned by the holiday companies but by individual owners who rent them out.
This seems to make all the difference, not only that it ended up being cheaper for us. I hope this helps.
