Submitted By: Mr M DawsonWe followed the advice to go direct from an owner and not with the holiday companies. I used the negative reviews to beat him down on price.
The apartment had everything we needed, it was very clean, and the lad who looked after the apartment for the owner even took us back to the Airport. The welcome pack was a nice touch.
The complex only has a pool with sun beds and nothing else. Do not believe what the holiday companies put on their web sites about the complex facilities – there is no internet connection or poolside bar.
We never used reception, but there was a sign outside saying it was closed between 6pm & 8pm, but on a couple of nights it was open between these times. Perhaps it’s when they cannot get the staff.
The Sand Club is handy for the local bars and restaurants and the Golf course. We recommend you try the submarine safari from the local marina – it is a totally different experience.
Another tip is to change your money at the Spanish Style Shop in the local centre, as it gives the best exchange rate and no commission.
As with other reviews we would not recommend Golf Del Sur to party goers or lovers of beaches, it is too laid back with only 1 night club and the beach is made of pebbles just like Brighton but without any scene! Someone at one of the bars told us next year they will be putting sand down on the beach.

Submitted By: Mrs L DakersWe arrived at night taxi driver did not scam us, it only cost us 15 Euros! When we arrived at reception security guard said good evening to us in English, gave us our key and explained where our apartment was in English and he also gave us a map.
We found our apartment very easily within a few minutes. The San Blas shopping centre was great, loads of restaurants, shops, a supermarket and everything was open!
Everybody was really friendly couldn't meet nicer people; no one was rude at all ever!
Female receptionist was very polite and explained everything to us in English!
Apartment was basic but we didn’t pay for 5* treatment and didn’t expect it when we got there. As for the TV you do expect Spanish channels on a Spanish island! Any way who wants to watch TV when you’re having a great holiday!
The cleaners were in changing sheets and towels every 2nd day and cleaning apartment which we didn't expect because we did go self catering.
We had an excellent time and had no problems with anything.
Recommend any of the restaurants because the food was fantastic in all of them, and the restaurant owners were all extremely nice!
Hopefully going back next year or later this year because we had such a great time.
Hired a car which is very cheap and went into Los Cristianos which was great if you can avoid being accosted by people trying to sell time share, where as in Golf Del Sur you don’t get any of that, so you can actually enjoy your holiday!

Submitted By: Miss K DeeHired a car to Los Cristianos was a ten min drive away and the beach was amazing, everyone enjoyed it a lot!
Apartment was basic but what do you expect for you're money, 5 star luxury? I don’t think so!
It was clean and the cleaner came every 2nd day to give us clean sheets and change our bins etc. The security man at night could not have been nicer, he did speak English but if he didn’t.
That goes for the TV in the room as well, people complain there was no English channels but you’re kind of like in Spain, so it’s going to be Spanish channels! Anyway why would you want to watch TV on holiday?
The pool was great rather cold though but hey ho it was still fun!
It was such a great holiday after all and yes the apartment was a bit simple, but that was no problem at all, because we were too busy going out and enjoying ourselves!
I like totally recommend it to anyone.
" These apartments are by far the worst... "
Submitted By: Mr C BrownI arranged the holiday myself, booking these apartments through Travel Republic who boasted numerous facilities which simply didn't exist or were not in operation when I was there - they don't come out of this well at all and won't accept any responsibility.
I'll try to be concise - broken furniture, doors hanging off (the first sight to greet us when we walked in was a door lying in the middle of the floor), cockroaches galore, filth, nothing ever cleaned, bed linen far too small or ripped, lights which didn't work - I think the problem is that most of these apartments have been sold off to private owners and whoever is in charge of the rest can't be bothered looking after them properly.
Don't even consider the Sand Club no matter how cheap and if booking anywhere with Travel Republic check out on sites like this whether their listed facilities actually exist.

Submitted By: Mrs CE MarriottSecurity Guard, who could barely speak English, took us down to our apartment.
Apartment large but shabby with plaster falling off the walls, large patches of damp, cockroaches, broken bed, lights not working. Sheets that didn’t cover the beds fully and a bathroom door that wouldn’t lock.
The whole place has a run down look about it; reception staff are rude, aggressive and disinterested in their guests.
It does however have a nice pool, although the aircraft landing every 5 minutes just over your head does tend to spoil the enjoyment.
Apartment "cleaned" once during our stay.
San Blas is a small resort with no beach, a handful of mainly British run restaurants, which are much more expensive than Los Cristianos and no other facilities other than golf courses.

Submitted By: Mr A ShutWe had the key posted to us in advance along with a great information booklet, so we just went straight into the apartment after paying the taxi. It was only 16 euros.
We did not need to use Reception during our stay, however, it is shut between 6 to 8 pm & the security guard between 8pm and 6am does not speak very good English.
Also from the recent specks of paint in the garden it looked like the outside had just been repainted.
The apartment was very clean and big. We did not see a single roach or other insect during our stay. It had everything we needed including a washing machine!
There was a welcome pack that included a couple of bottles of wine. We liked the fact we had a large double bed. The owners did not charge us for any extras like the safe.
In fact we could easily have lived there. They also had a local agent, who was British, who we could contact anytime if we had a problem. Not that we did & he even gave us a lift back to the airport.
The pool was very quiet, but a great sun trap as our tans show. There is no bar as this was apparently shut down because it did not have the right paperwork. This was no problem as we had brought our cool bag and stocked it beers from the fridge and froze a bottle of water.
The local commercial centre has lots of bars and restaurants; many speak English very well, as Brits own them. We even found a fish and chip shop. The weather was brilliant and so was the golf (you need to bring your handicap card) and we are going again.
The area is by the flight path so there is noise from the jets as they come into land, but we soon got used to that. I also would not recommend the area if you have teenagers who want to go out clubbing there aren’t any. Which was great for us!
Finally, if I have any advice to give - it is do not book the Sand Cub through the holiday companies. The best apartments on the site are not owned by the holiday companies but by individual owners who rent them out.
This seems to make all the difference, not only that it ended up being cheaper for us. I hope this helps.
" Never go to the Sand Club Apartments.... "
Submitted By: Miss J KellyAfter 45 mins of getting nowhere because our names weren’t on the list, eventually he gave us a dodgy map and pointed to our room.
We got to our door which was unlocked, to find no lights and a cockroach on the kitchen worktop - apparently he booked his self in. After going back to reception to complain about the state of the room the guard put me on the phone to someone who could speak English.
I told him the door wouldn’t lock and I wanted something done because I was unable to rent a safe. Then I was told I had three options:
Number 1, I sleep in the reception till the morning. Number two, we stay in our apartment and put furniture behind the door, or number three, we find new accommodation. I decided to go for option number two.
I will list the other problems and you decide for yourself.
I didn’t see any cleaners at all, apart from two women who popped there heads in and said hello and then went again - they didn’t do anything at all.
There were no clean towels or toilet roll or bedding
I went to the toilet and there was a rat in the bowl, I flushed him away.
The joiner came to fix the door, I think they found him on the street because he didn’t have a clue what he was doing.
So there you go, my review on the Sand Club, a holiday from hell, I will give it a one out of ten and that’s me being generous, adios amigos.

Submitted By: Mr FidoeOur trip was on Jan 1 2007
There were 3 adults in our party. Rising to 4 the week after. The reception closes at 6pm but there is a note on the window to make a call which we duly did and were greeted by an old Spanish chap who, although spoke no English (Hey, I speak only a bit of Spanish) took us to our apartment. Yes, is was basic but the kettle worked and the balcony was great for that first cuppa!
The daylight showed that, yes, the place wasn't pristene and the toaster, TV, mini hi-fi and phone (advertsied on the web page we booked through) were lacking. A quick trip to reception to query was met with a good natured laugh which, to be honest, didn't really bother us . . . we were on hols afterall! The chap at reception spoke good english and although couldn't offer an explanation for the missing items was friendly and very helpful re timetables, taxis, information, etc.,
The complex itself we found to be great . . . almost like Munchkinland! The pool area was OK (the pool provided many hilarious moments when all around would sit up from their sun beds just to see the expressions on people's faces when they jumped in that freezing cold water) with view out over to the sea. There is a snack bar but because it was so quiet it wasn't open.
Yes, the maid service left a lot to be desired and on a couple of occasions we had to find her to swap towels and get loo roll. Friendly enough though. The mattresses weren't the best and became increasing uncomfortable to lie on but there were plenty of pillows and blankets.
Don't forget that it is close to the airport and those planes do fly in regularly! At times we could almost see the faces at the windows! A plane spotter's heaven! You have been warned but you do get very used to it, very quickly.
The San Blas area is only a short walk down/stagger back and there are loads of bars, restaurants and shops. It's not overly tacky but certainly caters for all tastes - Indian, Chinese, Italian, and Spanish. Of course the Brits are there in force (a lot of Northern hospitality for some reason) with Sunday roasts, fry ups in the morning, all you can eat buffets and all of good quality and not small portions either! There is live entertainment every night. There are 2 banks, 3 ATMs, a Doctor, Well stocked NETTO supermarket, car hire, great walks along the coastline.
As always, there is major construction work everywhere (including the airport over the next 13 years!) but on the whole Golf del Sur is fairly quiet . . . well it was Jan! Weather? Fantastic!! Loro Parque a "must see".

Submitted By: Mr N SmithIf you want to take your family to somewhere safe and quiet with everything you need, then I suggest you go to the Sand Club.
Granted when we arrived we were very disappointed to have been told to wait an hour or two, then upon our return 2 hours later to be told to wait another couple of hours and seeing a family walk out in front of my nose with our room key, I was very annoyed.
We then started to think it was going to be one of those holidays from hell.. I then decided to get annoyed with the male receptionist after he laughed at me when I said I had ordered a baby cot. Which we got the next day. I think getting annoyed with him ''helped''.
To our surprise on entering the apartment in was much better than we were expecting, we were very pleasantly surprised.
2 large bedrooms with lots of closet space which we needed seeing as I was with 3.5 women. It was relatively clean quite modern and for 300euros for 1week it was worth every penny.
We were a little weary at first about letting the daughters out at night, but after talking to the many English speaking locals, we felt at ease letting them out, which they thoroughly enjoyed the whole week...
The pool was very nice but wasn’t heated and the bar wasn’t open.
Watch out for an electrical shop they are a huge rip off merchant and many of shop owners are. The fags went up 3euro a packet over night and he sold me a camcorder 50euro more expensive than I can get in "Dixons ''and I thought electrical goods were cheap over there'.
All in all we had a great time and would definitely stay there again. We were in room160.
One thing is a must out there is to go to the ''jungle park'' 10 minutes from the Sand Club, we found it much much better than Loro Park, where the animals weren’t that good to see but the Orca and Dolphin shows were great.

Submitted By: djgaryYes there were a few things that should have been repaired or replaced but it is the end of the season and you expect some items to be worse for wear at this time. Like others we did find the reception to be very poor not helpful at all and very little English spoken, but we where in Spain and it really should be up to us to learn some of the native language.
We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was equipped with a double bed in one room, and 2 singles in the other room plus a sofa bed in the main room. We had a fridge a kettle a toaster and a 4 ring hob and an electric boiler that gave just enough water for 4 to shower but reheated within ten mins for the other to shower.
The electrics left a bit to be desired as the sockets where so worn, that our adapters just fell out and I had to hold it in for my wife to dry her hair but this just created some fun as she proclaimed that once again she had brought me to my knees.
Overall for the money the accommodation was not too bad, the pool was great if a little cold, plenty of sun beds and no real noise apart from the planes.
We found San Blas centre to be more than adequate for what we needed, it has plenty of bars and restaurants plus gift shops and a supermarket, and how people can complain about European type food being in the shops is beyond me?
Tenerife is a Spanish island and Spain is a European country, I suppose if it was your main holiday then you might be a little disappointed, but if you want culture then don’t go to any tourist motivated area, it’s like going to Blackpool and saying it has no countryside views, you’re in the wrong place.
Whilst we where in Golf, the beach was just being built and it looks as though it will be quite nice when finished.
Overall a good base if you don’t want the hassle associated with las Americas or Christianos, but if you can, try to book the private apartments, they are not that much dearer than the rental ones and far superior.

Submitted By: Mr G AlderWe stayed one night and moved out the next day; green and black mould on walls in kitchen area and doorway, curtains hanging off ,no pillowslips on pillows, one solitary coat hanger ,no kettle it had to be hired, it was very basic .
The agents said it had been recently renovated, mould doesn’t occur overnight I told them it was a health hazard. I am waiting for a response from them.

Submitted By: Mrs J HoldenThe apartment was a mess as soon as we opened the door the disgusting dirty smell hit us. There was rubbish on the floor, dirty towels, sofa so filthy you could never have sat on it. The glass of the balcony doors looked like they'd never been washed & the frame looked like it kicked in many time. There was dirt & grime around the edges of the entire floor. A Filthy kitchen area had a dirty 2 ring hob & disgusting kettle, the sink was stained & dirty too.
The man at reception was friendly said would send a woman to clean. Meanwhile I phoned Travel Republic back in England to ask for somewhere else I had to do this from my mobile phone & was on the phone around half hour from Tenerife. We eventually saw the so called cleaning lady coming from another apartment, not a bottle of bleach or disinfectant to be seen!
The kids (teens) found the pool & said it was just ok.
We went for a walk waiting to here from Travel Republic & the grotty room to be cleaned. Good news they were upgrading us...but at an extra cost of 130 euros!
The area was quiet a shopping precinct close by with a supermarket, some tourist shops, few bars & places to eat. We would’ve been bored after one day.
Back to the apartment after eating. The apartment was so called cleaned, windows not touched, edges of floors not touched, all that was done was a wipe round with a damp cloth not a proper clean, floor mopped down the middle of everywhere, cleaner towels & bedding. It still had the disgusting dirty/damp smell, not the smell of a freshly cleaned place at all.
We couldn’t stay there! I don’t mind basic accommodation, but I do expect clean!!!
It was a horrible grubby dismal place.
Travel Republic were brilliant getting us somewhere else no problem, although it was at a cost & with day one of our week wasted!!
We spoke to some families staying there, they had the same complaints as us, but were putting up with it, and they had the attitude well, what do you expect for cheap..... I expect a clean hygienic place, no frills that’s all.
A rating of 1 is only because it a roof over your head...apart from that a 1 is a compliment to the place!

Submitted By: Miss S StewartThe bathroom was a good size but after waiting ages for the faulty light to come on we could see the dirty toilet and bath. Everything in there was a horrible yellow colour and the shower curtain looked like the only thing holding it together was the stains! There was a couple of days we woke to find we had no water, there was just a trickle coming from the shower, the last thing you need in that heat. There was nothing we could do because the reception was always closed.
The kitchen was basic as in it had nothing. We didn’t have a kettle or a toaster but we later found you could rent these from the reception, nobody there could have told us this as no one spoke English! We had three cups and three small glasses which to be honest we couldn’t have used because they looked so manky therefore we spent two weeks drinking from disposable cups. We ate out every day because the kitchen and all the equipment was so basic and nothing looked clean. The kitchen sideboard was hanging off the wall so we had to keep well away just in case it decided to fall! The fridge worked that’s the main thing but the layer of dirt all over it really put you off filling it with any more than the essential bottles of water and beer!
The living room was big with a really old couch with horrible faded cushions. I have never sat on anything so uncomfortable. There was a full size bed in the living which couldn’t be folded away.
The bedroom had twin beds which were really uncomfortable. We pushed them together so the maids started making it up with a double sheet instead of singles but they were slightly different heights and just kept sliding apart! The mattresses where stained and ripped and really, really uncomfortable and the bed creaking actually woke you up! There was plenty of wardrobe space, Id say enough for about five people but there was only about five hangers so really there was no point. There was no fans anywhere and the curtains where really thin so the sun coming in all day made the whole place so hot and humid it stayed like that permanently. There was just no cooling off!
Our balcony was big with an outside light, we had a table and three chairs. I’d say the balcony was the best part of the whole apartment!
The maids came in every other day for the first week. They changed the beds and gave us toilet rolls but that was it. They didn’t do any cleaning whatsoever. In the second week they came once and changed the bed in the living room but not the bedroom for some strange reason, then we had to chase them whenever we seen them to get toilet rolls!
The pool was nice but there was no poolside bar. There was signs everywhere telling you not to bring no food or drink to the pool but what other choice do you have! In the privately owned apartment close to the pool people where doing lots of work so it was hard to relax listening to hammering and drilling all the time.
A week into our holiday a friend joined us. He checked in with the security guard and went to his apartment where there was no electric. He stayed the night in our apartment because there wasn’t much point asking the Spanish security guard to sort it out. He went to the reception everyday for three days to find it was closed. Eventually after three days of no electricity someone was there and gave him a new apartment!
When we went to check out we arrived at the reception to find the door unlocked and no one there. We phoned the number on the door and they said someone would be with us soon. An hour later a girl arrived full of apology and explained she had nothing to do with sand club, she worked at another hotel and her boss had sent her to see an estate agent who was coming to look at apartment on sand club. She checked us out and had to search the room and phone people to find the keys to the safe to give us a deposit back. I took an hour and a half to check out but that girl was the most helpful person we met at the sand club in the entire two week stay!
All in all we had a good holiday but only because we spent as much time as we could away from the apartment! Golf del Sur is a nice quiet town with plenty of bars and restaurants and there are plenty of excursions to keep you busy. I would go to the Golf del Sur again but there are lots of decent hotels to choose from. My advice is keep away from the sand club, you would probably be better off in a tent on the beach!

Submitted By: Mr G WhittakerAs an apology we were also given free breakfast and evening meal for the entire fortnight which you can't argue with. The accommodation at both places was basic but given that we only paid a few hundred for the fortnight, couldn't complain. The reception staff were temperamental and favoured their Spanish guests over Brits.
However, the catering staff were lovely and the buffet meals were always of a good standard. Pool area was large with plenty of room for sunbathing which compared favourably with some more expensive neighbouring hotels where it seemed the pool was an afterthought.
Only main criticism was the lack of any receptionists on arriving at the Sand Club late at night to explain the situation and the noise from the aeroplanes passing overhead. The planes were tolerable through the day but late night and early morning flights did cause disturbed sleep.

This was our first time at the Sand Club. My wife likes the overall design of the complex with its white wall and terracotta roofs.
The apartment had plenty of room and was well equipped. Another reason why we those it was because it had a double bed. We do not like single beds. The apartment was very clean as is the complex.
The pool is the only facility on site but is a good sun trap, but the complex is next door to a lot of restaurants and bars. As the owner sent us the keys, we did not use Reception.
We also found the car park at the end of the complex handy and there was always space to park our hire car. If you have a hire car and need to buy any food - the Mercadona supermarket near the motorway is cheaper than the local Netto.
