My wife and I have just returned from a dream two week stay at the Hakuraa Club. I must start with the Monarch flight, which was as usual superb and ran slightly ahead of time. The seaplane was a wait of about an hour and a half, but this is quite the norm when time... more

Having been to Hakuraa in 2004 we were lucky enough to go again in 2006. When we visited again in Feb 2007 we said it would definitely be the last time! By 9:00pm on the first day we were committed to going again in 2008. The flight out is a bit of a drag but knowing... more

Loved it !!
The resort was one of the best I have stayed at in the Maldives, and I have stayed at a few. The staff are so friendly and helpful, from your waiter in the dinning room, through to the Hotel management, and as for the bar staff, well they are the best. The rooms are very clean, and more than comfortable, I cannot see how you could ask for more. We found the food very good, and I would say that I always make sure that’s its cooked properly, so I am unsure where the other comments are coming from with regard to this. One of the things you should do is to have dinner on the beach, it’s great under the stars. The trips are informal and very good, we went on the deep sea fishing (I didn’t catch anything, but all the others did, including a 30lb Tuna!!) and also Island hopping which gives you some idea of how the local live. But the one thing you MUST do, is have Adam& Eve Island for the day, the cost is $150, but for that you get your own Island away from everywhere and every body for the day (9.00-16.00) a picnic with food & soft drinks etc. It takes about 15mins by boat and it is great. Where else in the world could you have your own Island? Just the two of you?, wonderful, infact so wonderful we booked it for a second time the following week. If there is a down side, then for me it was the reef, you have to go to it by boat, on the Islands I have been before you could just swim out to the house reef . Also the lagoon is very shallow most of the time, so don’t think that you will swim a lot, because you won’t, and remember there is no swimming pool. But when all is said and done, we loved this hotel. Anne & Bob, we stayed 14 days and loved every one of them
Hakura...ahh PARADISE!!!!
Wonderful resort, fabulous food, stunning bungalos, very friendly staff. This place is just beautiful the snorkling is wonderful just like being in a massive aquarium!! just at the end of the bungalos room 170 we swam along side 2 turtles, what an experience, can't wait to go back jan 2007, the weather was great just had 1 day's rain which was our last day, highley recommend this resort. Sharon and Rab Wilson Scotland.
great dive team
I thought the last review from the people that stayed here at they same time we did a bit harsh. Food.... ok, watch the cooking of the chicken ! and you might struggle to put a meal together from the buffet but you not go hungry. Gourmet meal was very good given you chance to get away from the rest of holiday makers, very romantic !!! 10 couples only. Rooms GREAT !!!! very clean, dont stay in rooms 138 and above ....smell from the recycling. Beach fantastic !!Learn to dive here Great bunch !!! Dive sights very good. night time very romantic walks along the very very long jetty. Gardens are coming along very nicely. Staff are friendly. Overall good value. we are going back in May of this year so it do us for our Paradise !!!!
Hakuraa - could do better
We were impressed by the food for the first few days, then it declined and was decidedly average. Breakfasts were probably the least imaginative unless one is addicted to starch. Most disappointing was the swimming as the lagoon is very shallow and snorkelling under the pier or the villas as the only deep enough places was not very good. After that came the bathrooms which are very dark and hot water for the baths is extremely limited - we shared a warmish little puddle most nights. The next grouse is that although comfortable loungers are supplied for the water villa decks, there are no umbrellas and one would fry to a crisp if one sunbathed there. So take your own umbrella along! We paid for a gala night dinner and ended up being refunded for the wine (red was completely sour having been stood in the sun for who knows how long and the white was luke warm). The dinner is advertised as a huge gourmet feast - some guests even went without their lunch in order to leave room. We had: a tiny bit of lobster buried in mash, a good soup, a completely cremated salmon on a bed of dry cous cous which was followed by a beautifully decorated bit of some sort of cream mixed with some chocolate powder. We were refunded the £60.00 each on complaining. I am a chef and I can tell you, that was not cooked, it was assembled and incinerated but not cooked as I understand it! We also went out twice to look for dolphins - we saw a few fins - but no dols. They will let you go out again free of charge if you come back without seeing anything, so do ask as it won't be offered. Almost last grouse, why do hotels still allow smoking in restaurants? Having said all of that, the colours of the sea and the beauty of the Maldives made the visit worthwhile and it was really excellent value for money. Last grouse, Monarch airways ............... need the staff be quite so horrid? Need the food be quite so bad? could we all pay a bit more for a bit more leg room? well, we're voting with our feet and will pay extra not to fly with them, if enough people do that they may think on before closing down.
A good resort
A nice, clean resort with friendly staff and regular meals times. The rooms were nice and big, the ajoining bathrooms were a little on the shabby side but were regularly cleaned to a high standard. Meals were buffet style and were of a good quality (The bread and soup were first class, it's a shame that the rest of the food wasn't anything worthy of a special mention) I heard the dive school was very good and the reefs around the resort that the boats served, were first rate. The water is crystal clear there. Would I go back - Probably not for a while, There is only so much to do on a deserted island, but it is beautiful, friendly and possibly the best value all inclusive resort in the maldives. The Spa has only roof timbers on and is months away from being finished. Not all the water villas have steps leading down to the lagoon. Room 163 DID HAVE THEM. Room 162 and 164 DID NOT. The picture looking down the villas starts with villa 162, so you can see which have and which haven't. I have some more pictures at --- if they help anyone. Enjoy
Maldives Great - Hakurra Club ?? Food Terrible
After much searching and research we decided on the Hakurra Club because it offered an all inclusive deal as restaurants in the Maldives resorts can be extremly expensive. Rated as 4 star we thought was very optimistic - The resort only opened again in Sept 2005 after the Tsunami after a re vamp. Our water villa was the last one in the row so was the most private - We had a long walk to the bar / restaurant etc but were not over looked - We had no steps from our balcony into the water which was disappointing, the room decor was OK but bathroom shabby and very smelly. The most dissapointing thing was the food, so called theme nights for Thai food, Indian food, European food etc proved that this resort cannot create anything of culinary quality. All the food was terrible. A risotto that was more like fried rice and a whole grilled tuna that was cremated are only 2 examples. All the inclusive drinks were the cheapest brands possible - we stuck to the flat beer and rum and coke ! The wine (by the glass only !!) at dinner was un drinkable. If you are thinking of the Maldives push the boat out and go to a One and Only resort or the Hilton, dont pick the Hakurra Club as you will be dissapointed.
Great resort - great staff
Just returned from the Hakura Hura Club resort. Excellent accommodation in the water bungalows. Just be aware that they have not installed any steps from your balcony into the lagoon yet. However, because of this the management offered all the excursions free of charge!! They have worked wonders to rebuild after the Tsunami. The water bungalows are even larger than before with the inclusion of a small glass floor in the seating area to watch the marine life through. The food in the restaurant at all meals was of a good standard. There is no separation between smokers & non smokers in the restaurant and this can be a real problem when inconsiderate smokers are lighting up between every course as the tables are so close together. In summary, a great resort, well worth the 11 hours flying time & 45 minutes in a sea plane!
Even better 2nd time round!!
We first discovered Hakura on our honeymoon in late september 2003. We were impressed by the friendlyness of the staff and their attention to detail. We decided there and then we would have to return, which we did in November this year. We didn't think it could possibly be as good the second time round. How wrong we were. It was even better! Several staff remembered us and made us feel very special. Roll on January 2006 when we will be making our third visit! The diving is fantastic! The food is Excelent! The weather is fabulous! And the island is gorgeous! Big Big thanks to all of the staff. See you all again soon. Love and best wishes. Dave and Shirl.
Hakurra Resort is Brilliant!!!!
Hakuraa Club Resort is the most beautiful place! It is very small and we wondered if we might get bored there for 2 weeks, but NOT at all!! The holiday was over too quickly! The water bungalow was fab, the water clean and clear, the beach lovely and the food brilliant! We couldn't praise the staff enough, they were polite and courteous, and their English was excellent. Loved not having to carry any money! Like the other reviewer said, we probably tipped too much, but not having anything else to spend money on, we didn't mind one bit! Especially as the waiter, bar staff etc deserved it so much! I'd recommend this Maldivian island to anyone, especially the fact that it is so small! I'd certainly advise that your camera is at the ready for the seaplane transfer, this is spectacular! Also, don't forget to take a water camera, our pics from snorkelling are great! Get down to the bottom of the jetty and snorkel with the fish there - it's fabulous!
Wonderful Paradise World
This island was tiny but perfect. The water bungalows were large, airy, well equipt and comfortable. The beeches were beautifully clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke very good english. We completely overtipped but there was nothing else to spend our money on and the staff were fantastic. The trip from the airport by seaplane was an amazing experience. We also took park in one of the night fishing trips and one of the snorkling trips to the outer reef. Both of the trips were very well supervised and staffed. I cant praise this place enough - it was wonderful!
