More Traveller Reviews of Lohifushi Island Resort
wish we were still there!
from davva
like sparks we were a little concerned by some of the earlier reveiws, and on arrival the first thing you see is the builders compounds. once we were on the island and showered and changed it was as if someone had turned on the magic switch, it was heaven. for two weeks we lived the dream, white sand, clear sea alive with marine life, and even a fair amount of sunshine. (it is june) . the food was exelent with enough variety to suit all tastes, and our waiter even managed to get us a plate of cheese and biscuits one night. right from first light there was an army of workers out cleaning the island all day and the rooms were done twice daily. the bathroom is partially open but there is something wonderfull about having a shower in the rain while fruit bats fly overhead. the evening entertainment is a little iffy, but you soon rediscover the art of conversation and make new friends from all over the world. we even managed to form 17.30 drinking club at the beech bar, the highlight of the holiday came one afternoon watching the surfers when 8 dolphins swept in and joined them riding a wave. if anyone is still in doubt about going i will gladly take your place i`m sure my boss will understand.
A little piece of Paradise
from sparksManchester
After reading all the reviews we were very concerned about this island & were considering cancelling to go elsewhere. As this was a very special holiday & we has always wanted to go to the Maldives we decided to bite the bullet to see for ourselves what the island was like. We found a little piece of paradise which we didn't want to leave. From our arrival to our return to Male airport we have been treated like royalty. The staff on the island cannot do enough for you. The smiles on their faces are so genuine they make your time on the island even more pleasurable. So what if the bathroom finish is not perfect the scenery is. For every complaint against this resort there are more positives to be found. Outside room 194 there are 2 swimming holes with the best snorkelling on the island great for beginners. In the same area we found a moray eel which eventually was eating bread out of our hands. The food was great the fish perfect something for everyone even if you are a fussy eater. The waiters & catering staff excell in their commitment to making your holiday as pleasurable as possible. The bar staff anticipate your every need & are excellent in remembering how you like your drink. We found that the mixture of age groups & nationalities on the island worked so well. From the surfers to the divers everyone exchanged knowledge on good waves, diving spots & the best snorkelling places. In the bar every evening you were surrounded by different accents all with one thing in common discussing the highlights of the day. What more can we say it is our little piece of paradise. We usually find that towards the end of our holiday we are ready to go home. Not on this trip if we could have stayed an extra week or so we would have. A return trip in on the cards as soon as possible.
Everything we had hoped for
from npton3037
We arrived at 6am on the 1st May to a fairly warm 29 degrees!!! We were greeted at the resort by a cocktail and a cold towel which was very much appreciated. The rooms are basic, but spacious, with the usual tea, coffee making facilities and bottled water every day. The rooms are cleaned twice a day. The bathroom was a little unfinished, but to be honest, how much time do you spend in there anyway (semi outdoor bathrooms are very novel and take a little getting used to). Place was fantastic, food was fantastic. There is still some building work going on but there is minimal noise, we only heard it a couple of times. A couple of parts of the island need some attention but I think this will happen when the water bungalows are finished. There is not much happening in the evenings, but this is the kind of holiday where you are better getting up early (breakfast is between 7.30 and 9.30) and going back to the bungalow early with a couple of drinks. The snorkelling was excellent, and many of the surfers we spoke to were impressed with the waves around the other side of the island. All staff were so friendly, and we did tip a few of them at the end of the holiday because they were very attentive. Before you had finished your drink they were there asking if you wanted another (and on all inclusive they can just keep them coming!!!) Don't go expecting everything to be 100% perfect, but once you appreciate the true beauty of the place itself, the few minor bad points just seem to fade away.
Loved the island
from kittyfal
We have just returned from huduranfushi and just want to return straight away it was an amazing place very clean and everyone was very friendly, we went as a group with all of us having children with us under the age of 4 it was fine for the kids with the warm sea, playground, cots, high chairs are always at your table for your meals, only thing i would fault is that the evening meals don't start til 7.30 which is abit late for the little ones, but there are late afternoon snacks. The island is well looked after the building work of the water bungalows is nearly finished but you really can't hear it, the sea life is amazing fish and rays come up really close make sure you take reef shoes with you. the island is sprayed in the evening for mosquitoes but they are still around so don't forget your spray. How can anyone moan about being in this amazing place, Enjoy, we did.
Very nice place
from Akumik
Just returned from huduranfushi. I was never before on the Maldives so I can not compare wit the other isles. We were there with my wife to honeymoon and I was satisfied. Bungalows, Very nice and clean, you have bed-making 2 times per day, so that is very nice, all equipments (fridge, ventilator ect.) are very good and air-condition also work very well. But be careful if you have more that 180cm, because beds are 180cm long, so me with my 196 cm I had a lot of problems because my legs was in the air. Next bad think was that we do not had disponible deck-chair, so we had to wait some days when some other hosts go away and after we received our deck-chairs. So my conceile is keep it in the morning Restaurant, I had no possibility visit restaurants not all-inclusive, so I can only describe main restaurant. You have your own waiter, so that is nice (if you have good one ), you can ask for all drinks and also wine. Meats are excellent, you have possibility to choose from 15 finished meets and also 2 prepared on the place (normally fish and pastes), also you have very large choice of the deserts (around 10 kinds of deserts every day different). One of the point negative is that you can not ask for bottle of water in the morning (I do not understand why), bar is normally closed and if you do not have in the room ……….. Diving, I was not never diving before so also firs experience. I was little bit sad about possibility of snorchling. In reality you have just 1 good place for snorching and that place is in end of pier. The others places have not so large level of the water so you are fear that you will touch corals and also there is not so much fishs. Be carefull with snorchling next to pier, because of waves, but you will have nice panorama. Also I saw 3 times shark, those are there around 8:40-9:10 (little bit more fare away). I also make my first course of diving. I have to constant that course was super. My instructor was also super (Merci Tanya) and friendly. Scenery near pier was also super and I think that I will continue and next time I will try do more diving. Building of new bungalows, It is truth that there is still work. But I do not hear a lot of noise (but some times exactly in the evening around 21h it was not so nice. Also is trouth that there is not so much sand, but nothing critical, there is sill enough. Hotel try to hide all work in the process but sometimes you have some car and also when you go snorchling to pier you have normally some bout and work there so that is not so nice, but acceptable. Organisation, I was traveling with hotelplant, and I was very angry about first invitation on the ill. Our guide said to us that we will have our meeting in the 19:30 (We arrived 8:00 in the morning) so we had to search everything by ourselves, witch restaurants are all-incusive, where are the bars all inclusive ect. Also we do not received any information’s about places of snorchling ect. So this was bad point, but all other organization was good. Is you have more informations or you can see photos of costruction and sand you can contact me by e-mail stanislav.mozny@gmail.com
paradise!!!
from mums_place
me and my husband have just returned from paradise,Huduranfushi island is fantastic for people who have never been to the maldives before. The airpot on arrival was clean and the staff all friendley, the speedboat to the island was a great experiance in its self which took 25 min to get there When you arrive you are welcomed with a cold flannel and a refreshing drink, the room is spacious and immaculatly clean the rooms are cleaned every day with fresh beach towels the beds are turned down every night. The food was out of this world with a range of spicey currys to roast beef, rices, salads and not forgetting the moreish puddings(forget the diets)the waiters are wounderfull we paid for upgrade to superior to include spirits which didnt give much choice.we paid all-inclusive but you could only use the main dining are and the main bar for this, the snacks were not good and the thomson broucher said icecreams from 10am well there wasnt icecreams at all. the maintinence of the island was fantastic The downside is that you cant swim in the sea due to all the corral, great for snorkaling The excursions werent that good either. We paid $15 for a sunset trip and managed to see some dolphins that is worth the money, some excursions had a min of 6 people so if there wasnt 6 you will miss out. The entertainment is minimal And its not a place for children even though the was a play area We flew on monarch and we wont fly with them again.
fantastic!!!!!!

Well... I have just returned from Huduranfushi this week so a completely up to date (and extremely honest) report!! With less than two weeks prior to my departure I stumbled across Trip advisor and was appalled at what I read, believing my 'dream' holiday to be ruined. Tired and hot after a long flight we were directed outside to meet someone to take us to our Island... Porters will take your bags whilst you have a cool drink, then your ready to go.. The magic had begun!! When you book your holiday your told your transfer will be by speedboat, it is, but nothing prepares you for the brilliance of it!! You arrive and given another drink and cold towel... then shown to your room... WOW.. Beautifully decorated, simply yes but you hardly want huge duvets and 100 flouncy cushions. Immaculately clean and cool (oh the love of air con and ceiling fans) A mini bar (you pay for it.. except water) bath towels and beach towels.. bath and separate shower which runs from icy cold to hot.. and lots of pressure!! The service everywhere is amazing, your room is cleaned twice daily.. around about breakfast and dinner time.. you'll be in for a treat, with fresh flowers on your bed in an extravagant arrangement of a heart. There are several bars/ restaurants on the island where the service is second to none.. you'll never need to catch your waiters eye if your drink is empty (they don't let it get that far). On the All Inclusive side upgrade to include spirits if your not a beer fan but the cocktails you do pay for.. $6 for a cocktail in a fresh coconut is hardly expensive (£3). As for evening entertainment, there are various activities and theme nights around the island but if your looking for clubs and general rowdiness it won't be here.. you'd be better off staying in Europe. The snorkeling is a truly beautiful experience with an extensive house reef.. even a local reef shark and rays, if your lucky you'll spot some dolphins up by the jetty. Yes, some of the coral in places is dead... what would you expect after a Tsunami? I recommend the Coconut spa.. you'll simply float back to your room, there are many different treatments, but if your travelling with someone special, go for the Adam and Eve package.. I won't spoil it for you!! The Island itself is stunning.. lush green vegetation ( a banana grove in the middle) white beaches.. which are secluded in places by using trees and shrubs, very private especially for the more body conscious, and gorgeous clear warm waters. Everywhere is easily accessible to the less mobile, as I am on crutches, no stairs to climb and as the accommodation is on the beach its perfect! As far as the food is concerned you won't go hungry here.. I personally am a very fussy eater and won't eat either fish or spicy food... I ate well every night with a huge variety of dishes available, even pizza if it takes your fancy. For breakfast they have the option of a fully cooked b'fast, bacon, eggs etc to fresh fruits, cereals, pancakes or a continental array. I cannot say how much I enjoyed my holiday, particularly after reading the reviews, there may have been teething difficulties in the past, but not any more. It truly is fantastic in every way.. I do not have one complaint and I'm not easily pleased!!! The service is phenomenal.. from the friendly and extremely professional Thomson rep, Layla to the young man who cleaned our room. Simply Stunning In Every Way.... ENJOY.
Maldives at a nice price
from surfchaser
My wife and I stayed 2 weeks for our honeymoon. We knew that the resort had been damaged by the tsunami of Xmas 2004. There was some rebuilding going on to the damaged east side of the island we decided to go anyway as the packages were really cheap compared to most other resorts in the Maldives. We would have only been able to stay 1 week for the same price at other similar resorts. The room that we were assigned was close to the bar and that there was a lot of noise from music that kept us awake. The next day we asked to be moved further away from the noise. This was done immediately and our new room was fine. The rooms are kept clean and although not super modern remember what your paying for. With the beautiful warm weather and water what are you doing in your room besides sleeping anyway? The food was simple but tasty changing enough each night with enough variety to please me and I'm a fairly fussy eater. Although after 2 weeks and going through the weekly rotation twice, now and again something different was needed. So we had a couple of meals at the a la carte restaurant on the deck that goes over the water. Make sure you sit at one of the tables by the waters edge order some prawns and throw the heads out into the fish and small sharks that lurk around the lights waiting for some scraps. The waiters we had were excellent very friendly and always thoughtful with friendly conversation I made sure I tipped the staff at the end of our stay as they send all the money home to support there families. If I go back I hope to see the same happy faces again they made up for the little things that weren't perfect about the place. Some of the beaches had sand washed away from the 2004 Tsunami. As a result as many people have mentioned you should wear some reef boots when you swim off the western beaches because of the broken coral. They had been using a dredge to move sand back to replenish the beaches which was working. Most of the corals around the island were damaged from a bleaching incident several years beforeThe snorkling tour will be a disappointment to anyone who has seen really healthy reefs. Although if you went scuba diving and look at the coral deeper where the bleaching didn't occur it's much better. Overall we had a fantastic relaxing time and have considered going back since. But if the constuction that is going on is going to bother you best stay at one of the more picture perfect resorts and spend a lot more money. I think we'll wait till the construction is finished before we return and hope the prices don't go up too much.
Huduranfushi a fair reflection (12/02/07 -27/02/07)
from LondonDiver
We arrived at 8am after a 20 min boat ride and had to wait until 11.30am for our room which we then had to find our selves. All rooms are the same and have all been refurbished. They are basic but adequate and reasonbaly good by Maldivian standards/other rooms I have experienced on other islands. The resort layout is nice and the facilities are, by Maldivian standards, fairly good. Squash court , tennis court and gym were always accessible. Swimming pool is small but adequate. The second pool is an adjoining childrens' pool. People do tend to get to the pool early to reserve sunbeds (Germans, Russians and English were the worst offenders) and then they dissapear for about two hours before they actually use them. The resort is not as described in the Thompson brochure. There is one all inclusive restaurant and bar. There are two other bars which are not all inclusive, one of which has a very small and very over priced al a carte menu. The food was no better than in the all inclusive restaurant and the wine was extortionate. There are no other restaurants as advertised. There are no water bungalows either as these are still under construction. I am told they will be completed by April this year although some members of staff suggest that is optomistic. The entertainment is appalling. Two singers in week one and two different singers in week two. They belt out country and western, Tom Jones and John Denver numbers etc. Very amature and very out of date. The disco was on for 3 nights a week for 3 hours at a time but it was always empty. To be honest the DJ was clueless about what to play and when to play it. They do a beach party at the disco bar - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!! The diver center was well run and the staff very friendly. However, the diving sites from this island are poor. The house reef is better than most sites reached by boat but is has a strong current and is not for the faint hearted. One dive is US$45 plus kit hire (total US$100 per dive). You can buy a 6 dive package for about US$350 plus a kit hire package of about US$300. The worst thing for me about this island, and if I had known the position I would have changed the booking, is the fact that you cannot swim or snorkel off any its beaches. Due to the geological make up of the island, the water around it never gets any deeper than thigh high. As a result, they have dug two holes into the water on the south side to create two small swim holes. Now you know why they have built a small swimming pool !! The beaches are small and covered in very coarse sand/coral and are very poor compared to many other islands that I have visited. Again, this is a geological issue and one which they cannot do anything about. So if you like small rough beaches, low sea levels, dead coral protruding from the sea, no swimming (only off the harbour jetty) then this will be a preferct resort. The resort itself is clean, well presented, the staff are very friendly and overall I would say £1,400 for two weeks all inclusive is about right but at the top end of all right for this island. Any more and you would be better off going elsewhere. On a personal note I would also like to mention our waiter was sacked whilst we were there and another waiter ran amok around the pool one day screaming and bleeding heavily - much to the shock of many guests. Our room was also bugled bye CRaig Barber, the resort manager said he could not do anything about it - what a great manager!
Huduranfushi (my opinion)
from LondonDiver
1. Price paid £1,400 (all inclusive). In my opinion this was top end price for this island. 2. Fact Thompson brochure is inaccurate - only one all inclusive bar and restaurant and two other bars (non all inclusive), one of which doubles as an a la carte restaurant. Food and wine was over priced and frankly very bad quality to the point that if I had received it in England at the price I did, I would have sent the food back and left the restaurant. 3. There are no other restaurants or beach bungalows on this island and if your tour operator says otherwise, either verbally or in their brochure, then they are misrepresenting the position. The bungalows are still being built and will not be finished for months and months. To be honest any more accommodation on this already crowded island will benefit no one. 4. Room was basic but adequate and kept very clean. If you have been to the Maldives before you don't expect much for rooms. The room boys work hard and should receive the highest tip at the end of your holiday ($30/about $2 per day) as they clean your room twice a day, give you fresh beach and room towels every day and two bottles of water. 5. Some staff have issues - our waiter was sacked and an other tried to kill himself in front of many guests by the pool - blood and hysterical tourists everywhere - I am not joking! 6. Dive centre staff are very nice and friendly. However, dive sites are poor. House reef is Ok but always has a strong current. 7. Beach is awful and swimming is impossible. This is not the fault of the resort it is an issue of geological development. The main reason to go to the Maldives is to have a room on a pristine soft white sandy beach, crystal blue water to swim in and diving to remember. You get that on many Maldivian islands but you will not get that here. You will get a small (narrow) beach dotted with man made wave breaker/jetties, the sand is coarse coral/sand, exposed dead coral in the water and a maximum water depth of about 1 meter. So in comparison to other islands this one is very poor indeed. 8. Resort over all was OK. I would not go back to it primarily because of the beach and swimming situation because other islands do not have this problem

Having read many negative reviews about Hudhuranfushi I was very sceptical as we left for our holidays. It’s a long flight and we were pretty weary when we arrived but it all seemed fairly straightforward. As we entered the arrivals hall there was a Thomson Rep who guided... more
