in short this hotel should take down the apartments at the side of the hotel where we had the misfortune to stay as we were attached to the side of the holiday club apartments where the laundry room was with what sounded like everything washing and drying was rusted. the... more

Great cheap place to stay
Great place if you want to stay by the pool and top up the tan. Bar not really busy and could do with a lively bar worker to entice the holiday makers. Hotel is high up from everywhere else so you'd need to jump in a taxi to get to Puerto Rico which a more busy holiday resort where you find the families browsing shops or couples looking through the jewellery shops! Receptionist, Antonio was great and once you break the ice with him he's lovely! Pacco, always smiling, is also lovely and had given me lifts to resorts a number of times as he was going that way, a generous caring thing to do. Market on Friday is a bus trip away MORGAN, I loved it there, very busy and at the end you have a beautiful harbour. Didn't like the man made beach which is a 15 walk down hill from the hotel, some do however. Found two coachroachers per night perching along the kitchen sink and I didn't even had food in my room. They are harmless but not very attractive. TV in room cost 1 euro for 6omins i think, there is a hairdryer ang kitchen utensils. All is well if you want to rest
As expected
Stayed here last year so knew what to expect.Great views of Amadores beach from spacious balconies.Rooms are a bit dated and would benefit by air conditioning.Unfortunately we had to deal with cockroaches in the hallway and bedroom.Staff were less than helpful throughout our stay. When we arrived at apartments early in the morning,we werent even shown to our room.Wont be returning to this hotel again as there are better options in the area.
Comfortable Clean
Myself and my daughter had a great time in this hotel the only thing I found strange is that the reception closed at 21.00pm in the evening and we arrived through the night no one to greet us our keys cellotaped to the outside of the reception door. they never checked if we arrived did not seem too care. anyway hotel basic but its just to sleep in rooms cleaned everyday value for money.
very clean
i was quite worried about staying at these apartments as the reviews didnt look good but after staying at these apartments i dont think ill go on what people say any more because some peoples standards are alot higher than others now im not saying ill stay in any old dump but as long as i can wash and put my head down thats all that matters heres my personal thoughts of the hotel me my partner and my son have just come back from these apartments and upon arrival i wasnt supposed to check into my room untill 2pm we arrived at the hotel at 12pm but they let us have the room early which was nice when we got to our room it smelled very very clean not musty like some apartments ive stayed in the facilitys in our room were adiquate we had electric hob full size fridge with tiny freezer compartment, toaster, kettle, even a hair dryer in the bathroom,we had a portable tv coin operrated i had no issues with this hotel at all our stay was very pleasant and would go back after all i only payed 480 for all of us to go on this holiday and was expecting some kind of hiccup but i had a relaxed fun holiday with no problems at all heres a tip........ when eating out you will get people approaching you to eat in there resturants ......the food looks cheap and is.......but ask how much it is for a drink first as we made the mistake of just going in and eating and not thinking about how much the drinks were as the food was cheap but one resturant charged us 14 euro for the meal for 3 but we had 3 cokes and the cokes alone were 12 euro so be carefull !!
Great View
We stayed at the Palmera Mar for a week in Feb 06, and we found it to be quite pleasant. The weather was great for the whole holiday, and the view from the hotel reception and balconies was breathtaking. The hotel is right on top of a hill, so not a good idea for the less able or young children. We found a nice shopping centre nearest the top of the hill, with all sorts of restaurants, pubs, trampolines and even tattoists. There are two beaches in the resort, one that the hotel overlooks and another round the bay. Didn't find any watersports, though there are many other things to do- we found a trip to the Aqua park and a Day on a catamarran was quite sufficient! Two bad points, though: ALL the restaurants sell the same thing, (everything!) so you the menus are vast! Also, the hotel isn't in a great state- it's comfortable, but we found it served better as somewhere to crash after a long days walking! All in all it was excellent, the hotel staff are extremely friendly, and we even ended up getting a few drinks on the house!
Wonderful wiew
Me and my husband stayed here a week (6th to 13th jan, 2007) and we think this hotel is totally ok. The staff was friendly and the room were colourful and nice. We had two bottles of red wine in the room when we camed as a gift from the hotel, and we thought that was a really nice geasture. We had a room with sunbeds on the balcony and that was very great. We had a wonderful sea wiew from our livingroom, bedroom and balcony. Minus with this hotel was: not to good cleaning, pretty hard beds. Plus with this hotel was: the location, the breathtaking sea wiew, friendly and happy staff, very nice, brandnew and fresh sunbeds and a really large balcony. The hotel had a relaxed atmosphere and we felt so rested after our week reading lots of books at the balcony. We could easily go back to Palmera Mar!! Its hilly up to the hotel, but you can take a taxi if you have walking problems.

ARRIVAL Arrived at the Palmera Mar at 910 PM to be met by a rather unfriendly member of staff. He refused to cash any travellers cheques because reception closed at 9 PM. Luckily, have been to Puerto Rico before so knew where to go to cash cheques. Modern lift system in operation. APARTMENT Very clean. Separate door for terrace and for entry into apartment. Would only recommend that 2 people could live in the apartment because they are not spacious enough for 4 people. Have to put room key in wall to allow electrics to work. So don't forget your key. Bedroom has two single beds, a wardrobe (not many hangers)and a dressing table with mirror. Bathroom is really small with toilet directly beside the bath (only a dwarf could bathe in it). Though, there is a powerful shower in the bath. Towels are changed daily except from Thurs and Sat and only if left on the floor. Large mirror in bathroom which tends to steam up quickly. Small fridge with a freezer box at top. Did not use any of the kitchen facilities. The coin operated TV was very small (14') and didn't work even after the repair man had come out. Terrace has table and four chairs. No parasol or loungers. View from balcony looking onto Amadores beach was amazing. POOL There are 3 pool areas including a jacuzzi. All of which looked very clean. Only visited the pool bar on one occasion after waiting an hour on a toastie and even ignoring that fact, the Spanish guy working on the bar seemed never to wash his hands whilst smoking and working etc. BE WARNED.... lots of Spanish holidaymakers staying at Palmera Mar AND making lots of noise. Pool supposed to close at 9PM but Spanish still in the pool into the early hours of next morning. ALSO... noticed that Spanish people parked the cars outside Palmera Mar and just walked in and used the pool etc. For this reason only went to pool one day. STAFF Only two staff worked on reception. Both very unhelpful and rude. For instance, insisted could not cash cheques because they had no money but the till was basically overflowing and another day the guy finally agreed after scowling and storming off to find a pen. Reception only opened from 9am-1pm and 4pm-9pm. DON'T WORRY. If you go to the top of the hill next to the taxi rank you will find ALTAMAR apts that are happy to cash cheques any time and give you a better exchange rate too. FOOD Didn't eat at the apartments. The restaurant never seemed to be open. Barbacoas - guaranteed to have a great meal. Ate there everyday. BEACH Amardores is far the best beach. Two sun loungers and parasol only 7 euros. Don't enjoy the sand then there is sun loungers on the pier with a cool sea breeze. Pedalos are only 8 euros to hire for an hour. Great fun. NIGHT Preferred the Europa centre to the main Puerto Rico centre. Don't get any hassle from guys selling sun glasses, chinese women selling fans that light up with matching earrings or just random people trying to sell you stuff. Reillys/Hoops is good though. Ideal for clubbing. Also for junk food lovers you will find McDonalds, indian and chinese restaurants here. Europa - Barbacoas, Turbos, Yates and other pubs. Not to overcrowded, realxed atmosphere. Taxis only 3 euros from apartment to beach and main centre of Puerto Rico. WOULD NOT RETURN TO PALMERA MAR - BEST ADVISE ...STAY AT ALTAMAR!!!!!!!!!
perfect for a relaxing holiday
Palmera Mar is a very nice basic hotel with a pool bar, restaurant and well stocked shop for provisions. The view from the balcony was amazing and any photographs I had previously seen did not do it justice. Perfectly located so that the sun rose behind the hotel, meaning the room was not too hot during the day and set behind the mountains of tenerife giving a spectacular view from the balcony. There was no air conditioning but the location was so quiet that leaving the bedroom window open ment that the temperature was fine. The pool was very nice and the barman was very friendly. The new man made beach is a ten min walk from the hotel. I would not reccommend this location if you are unable to walk up and down steep hills unless you are willing to travel by taxi, which is very cheap, 2.05 euros to the beach. I will definetly be visiting this hotel again when I go back to Gran Canaria
Relaxing Stay
Just got back from a two week stay at Palmera Mar with my boyfriend. Had a lovely time gettng to know the friendly staff, relaxing by the pool and taking in the excellent view of Amadores Beach. Much preferred this side of Puerto Rico rather than the 'built up' side around the harbour. The Taxi rank is at the top of the hill (very close) so it was very easy to get around, also very close to the Europa Centre. Overall, this is definately an Apartment I will re-visit!!!
Clean and friendly
Two of us have just come back after a week in the Palmeramar apartments. We booked it expecting cheap and cheerful and were totally amazed by it. Rooms are good quality and cleaned almost every day, the staff are friendly, it's far enough away from the bars to be quiet but close enough to get to the bars and shops in about 10 minutes (easy walk). Taxi is 2 euros to the beach if you are not feeling like walking. The pool is clean as is the sun lounging area. The on site shop is well stocked as well. I will definitely be going back!
