The Palmara Mar is situated up a steep hill a short walk from Amadores Beach and is not far from the Europa Centre, takes roughly about 5/10 minutes to walk up to the Europa Centre and a gentle stroll down to the beach takes approx 15 mins. Taxis are cheap and cost around 3 euros back up to the hotel from the beach...its a big hill!
The hotel offers fantastic views over Amadores beach and for quite an old hotel it is clean and basic Our rooms were on the fifth floor, there is no air con so the bedroom gets quite stuffy but there is loads of space and a massive balcony, there is all the basic self catering stuff toaster, kettle etc.. again i have to mention the view from the balcony was fantastic, looking down over the Amadores beach.
My experience of the Palmara Mar was unwelcoming but that was down to the spanish families staying there and not the hotel it's self. Reception was only open from 9-1 and 4-9, there was also a shop but very basic and watch the sell by dates, there are more supermarkets in the Europa Centre up the hill or there was a spar at the bottom of the hill.
Rooms were cleaned each day except Weds and Sunday, towels and sheets got changed! Only saw 2 cockroaches one in the balcony and a huge grand daddy sized one that had decided to move in with us it really was that big infact it was that big i thought it was going to throw me out the room instead of me throwing it out...
The pool was lovely and clean, and always plenty of sunbeds but the sun beds were a bit cramped around the pool, My only moan is that there was no parasols - the only shade was under the trees, but other than that the pool area is in the sun from 10am-8pm. The pool was a overun with lots and lots of Spanish people! Pool bar was ok, food and drinks where fine and the prices generally ok but the bar closed really early it was never open any later than 5pm.
Just to warn anyone reading, We like to go for a couple of hours sleep from about 5pm-7pm before going out.. BUT .. were woken several times throughout that time for the whole holiday by the spanish kids running riot and basially not showing any consideration for other guests as i said above there are alot of spanish families that holiday in this hotel who seriously have a lack of any consideration for other guests.i found them to be quite ignorant and the hotel was extremely noisy from about 4pm to late from them in the end we just avoided the hotel and spent the time down at the beach. The hotel did not offer any entertainment, but I hadnt expected it too.
There is a restaurant at the top of the hotel but to be honest it looked a bit rubbish and was alway empty so we never ate there.
The Europa Centre is a short walk up a steep slippery hill and the crossing by the taxi rank is a bit lethal as most drivers don't stop to let you cross at the zebra crossing, up there there is loads of bars, restaurants, shops, etc. We ate in Barbacoa a couple of times but found the prices a bit expensive and feel we were ripped off! DO NOT eat in the chinese, eurgh! Drinks and food were lovely at Amadeus, Pickwicks bar is fantastic for drinks, Fryer Tucks is good for take away if you get the munchies. There is a larger centre in Puerto Rico but we didn't go there at night. we ventured down one afternoon there was touts everywhere, it drove us mad!
I will also point out there is also bars, restaurants & shops on the Amadores Beach, we found like lovely little place called the Irish Cottage a few day before our holiday ended the food was really nice so we ate breakfest and lunch from there the final few days.
Amadores beach is lovely only cost 8 euros for 2 sunbeds and a parasol, it's a short stroll down and if you don't feel fit enough to walk up the hill it's about 3 euros back up again, sea is lovely and clear. You could stay on the beach until at least 7ish if you wanted too.
With all the above said, I wouldnt choose to stay in the same hotel again but we will definetly be coming back to Puerto Rico it really is a fantastic place to go on holiday!

Absolutely fantastic! Great nightlife, sunny all the time! Hotel is great, no bugs, spacious enough for two, great views from balcony ( 4th floor) Pool is clean and good temp. Hut downstairs serves great cheap food, cocktails are great :) Barman is awesome! Fantastic service from reception. luggage room on last day. restuarant menu limited but great (try the canarian potatoes) Taxi's are extremely cheap. Make sure you go to Joker's nightclub, definately a night to remember! Definately would return to this hotel again!

The hotel was very clean and most staff very friendly, the room was nice and big with an amazing balcony and an equally amazing view, the pool was lovely but did get busy with local spanish families. We went half board but rarely ate there at night, although the breakfast was nice. I would not go half board there again as there are lots of cafes and bars just up the hill or down at the beach. The beach is the best i have ever seen and the bars are a great added bonus. I went with my boyfriend and would highly recommend it for couples. Its a very couplely place. Be ware the sun as it does get hot, dont bother with the Water park in Maspolomas, go to the one in the town, only 22 Euros and no queing at all, it was hot...... We done the Souix city night which was brill, just not enough time to see it all. My main tip would be take red clothes pegs with you as thats what the sun bed people use to know you have paid!!!! lots of sun cream and after sun, we used 20 factor for the whole 10 days and saw lots of people who were badly burnt. I would go back now if i could. Thank you Puerto Rico it was great. I have even forgotten about the 5 hours delay at the airport......

This was our second visit to the Palmeramar and we thoroughly enjoyed it again. The views from our balcony were spectacular and the maid service great. We were there for 9 days and our rooms were cleaned for seven of them. It is excellent value for money and we are looking forward to visiting again later this year. The only downside was the hotel shop which was badly stocked with many items out of date but with the Europa Centre only a five minute walk away didnt prove to be too much of a problem.

Loved the apartments, loved the views. Everything was great.
Puerto Rico is a really hilly place and this apartment was in the perfect. It is half way up the hill. About -10 mins walk downhill to the beach then 5 mins uphill to the Europa Centre.
It was really handy. We'd walk down to the beach then it was a few euros to get a taxi back up. As the Europa Centre was so close you could walk it and it wasn't a problem.
Due a baby and would even take the baby there, the hill wouldn't put me off
Amadoris beach was lovely. Had really good bars along the front and good public toilet/shower facilities (about 25cents to use)

The balcony was the best I liked about the Palmeramar. It was big facing the Amadoris beach and had the sun for more than 8 hrs everyday.
I had to ask for more pillows as they were hard and lumpy being washed over and over so many times. I was in my room for 8 days and had never had my sheets changed. I was told they get changed once a week. I went to see maid when I noticed my sheets still not changed. I was given clean sheets from a different maid for me to change them myself. Then 2 days later at 9am my maid brought in sheets but we were not up. I left them for maid to change next day. They were still there when we got back to our room so on Saturday I stripped my bed and left the sheets for the maid to make beds.
Rooms very hot and stuffy with no airconditioning or fans.
The girls next door was not getting there sheets changed either so on the 9 th day they stripped there bed and maid had changed there sheets. I asked other people if they were getting there sheets changed and if your room was below reception your sheets were changed every few days but if you stayed on right side our maid did not bother. I don't know about anyother floor.
The reception is only open from 9am-1pm and 6pm-9pm everyday and staff never smile. Check the dates on food as people next door bought bacon which was 2 months out of date and smelt bad and had already bought salami and was 1 wk out of date. The girls got there money back.
Our flight was at 23.20 and was picked up at 8pm. We were able to put our suitcases in a locked room and was able to shower down beside the pool but the water was freezing and the recetion told me there was nowhere else. I managed to get a shower from our kind neighbours who was in next room. I have never had a problem from any other hotel to get a hot shower. In the rooms the water cools down very quickly and there is not much pressure.
I bought a MP4 player from FOTO SAI in the Europa centre.
BEWARE------DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
I was told it costs $20 for 30 songs. They told me to get a better one. I paid $30 for 1000 songs but the lying pigs sold me the one for 30 songs and got $5 for the adaptor which I probably should have had included. They are all sly dogs. You go in and enquire about something and they try to sell you more.
I overheard someone when walking down the hill that there video camera was not working. I bought a video camera from FOTO SAI 10 yrs ago and had no problem but Tony looks like he is liar. I did not think they would be so horrible. In future I will buy in uk.
The beach is 15 mins walk down hill to Amadoris beach then 20 mins from beach to beach. It is unsuitable for people with difficulty in walking as hills very steep and pavements very slippery.

I went to Gran Canaria with my husband before we married. We were very pleased with the accommodation; it was clean and spacious and had a great little kitchen. We could have easily eaten in more but we ate out most nights.
The hotel had a nice pool and the beach wasn't too far. There was lots to do and the bars and restaurants weren't far, was just the steps coming home that were hard as very hilly there, but the beautiful weather made up for that.
We went in April and couldn't believe how hot it was! Overall a lovely holiday made by a lovely resort.

Me and my boyfriend have just arrived back from the Palmeramar apartments. We both thought they were excellent.
Even though our flight was delayed and arrived at the apartments 9 hours later than we were supposed to at 8am, our key was their waiting for us and were able to go straight to our room with no problems.
First impressions were that the room was very clean and spacious. Limited kitchen appliances but not needed as we ate out all the time. There was a spacious fridge to keep beer in which is all we needed. Balcony was massive with table and chairs to take in the amazing scenery...it was breathtaking. Never had one with as good views as there are from here.
The apartments were slightly out the way for us as the main nightlife is down at the commercial centre but as many people say which is true...only 3 euros in a taxi and well worth it. We got taxis up and down all the time as too hot to walk.
Europa centre is only 5 mins walk away and if you’re after a quiet night out or a few drinks then there is plenty to do there with quite a few restaurants and bars to choose from.
Commercial centre is excellent for young and old. When we were there half of it had closed down due to electrical faults but there were still lots of bars and restaurants about.
All staff in Palmeramar and out and about are extremely friendly and the rooms were cleaned at least 5 times in the week we were here.
Cockroaches were seen a few times but to be expected really with the heat.
Overall a fantastic holiday.

What a great holiday!
We are four 18-21 year olds (two couples) and although the apartments had more Spanish, we still had a fabulous time!
The rooms are so clean and cleaners visit 5 times a week, a very spacious balcony and a great pool with Jacuzzi, kid’s pool and adult’s pool with water features.
We went out every night and by making a 5 minute walk up hill there is a taxi stand in which taxis regularly appear and for 4euros you can’t go wrong! Just ask to be dropped at McDonalds and it takes you straight to the nightlife.
Each night the sun would set directly in front of the balcony and the views are amazing!
The only one thing I could fault was the cockroaches and the heat been at 52 degrees! But I’m sure it’s not their fault!
The first and the best holiday I have had with my boyfriend.

These apartments are so lovely! The balconies are huge - the view was amazing over the amadores beach and lovely sunsets at night and we were shocked at what we got for our money.
The kitchen had small appliances like a toaster and kettle stored away in the cupboards which was nice to find for breakfasts.
The man on reception is very welcoming and funny, also very helpful.
The swimming pool and Jacuzzi are so much fun there with water features to play around in! Lots to do here if you fancy a day on site and the food from the pool bar isn’t bad or expensive at all.
It is at the top of the hill but compensated by the views, a taxi is only 3 euros to the town centre or beach of Puerto rico.
A luggage room the was very valuable and with a key card too if you were staying around the town or on site till it was time for the airport home.
There was a lovely restaurant upstairs with lovely views at night and the food was gorgeous! Also, the chef was nice enough to make something to your taste i.e. salads came with lots of things we didn’t like so we asked for one with lettuce, cucumber, pineapple and onions and they were very willing.
They also do takeaway for your room, if you're not up to going out for any reason.
I'd definitely only book this again if I returned to Puerto rico and I miss it allot!!

Fantastic 10/10!!
Me and my fiancee stayed at this resort 09-16th August 2008- all I can say is i'm quite depressed to be back in the Uk - think that says it all
the weather was amazing and the Island was a great getaway
The appt was very clean and spacious with regular changes of bedding and towels.
It had all the basics such as toaster kettle and did it's job perfectly well over the week- no complaints whatsoever
the balcony was amazing to sit on from first light to sunset
Had one meal at the hotel restraunt but to be honest it wasn't that great - real shame but the place was empty - needs the Gordon Ramsey touch !!!
the pool and facilities were top class especially the bar and special mention to the barman there - top geezer.
The pool was always busy but was big enough to handle it
Puerto Rico it's self was great - would be better if they got rid of the timeshare brigade, even the looky men are better to deal with than them....just be on guard for scratch card scammers....albeit that was at Maspolomas beach
my advice don't even give them any indication your interested just walk away or you'll soon find your held up with endless questions
Best bar to visit is the hoops bar / Dicey Reileys in Puerto Rico main centre - great entertainment and service
another word of warning - watch out for jellyfish - I was unluckily stung by one on my last day in the sea at Amadores beach.....but still not enough to take the shine off an amazing holiday
thanks to all - can't wait to return !!!
