" not a good first impression "

We arrived in the middle of the night, to find we were staying in Kavoc, My friend wasnt very happy as she was looking for a quite holiday, we got picked up by a couch and dropped off outside a hotel, nobody knew what was happening, a mini bus then picked us up and brought us to the place, first impressions not good, place not kept very good, we were then taken to our room, alot of people were saying that they were going to leave the following morning. After two hours sleep, we had a look around the place, very basic accomadation, pool looked lovely, spent most of the day beside it, holiday looked better, staff behind the bar very friendly, my friend softened to the place, we enjoyed three days of lovely sunshine and nice cocktails, then i had a family emergency, we contacted the rep he was excelent, he sorted us a flight out and transfers, he couldnt have been more helpfull, i would go back again, as it was right on the beach and far enough away from the noisy part.

Advice: a cheap place to go, friendly staff, accomadation basic but ok, plenty of hot water,

" Worst holiday in 30 years "

Koulouris Beach Appartments Kavos Corfu-
1)Hygiene-non existent-rooms dirty on arrival, spent 1st day cleaning with bleach and
disinfectant. Towels not changed for 14 days, toilet rolls not replaced for 14 days, had to buy our own. Caught cleaner brushing bed with floor brush - only came into room once in 14 days. Fridge unsafe - electric socket wires exposed.
2)Pool area - not suitable for children. Child aged six in our party cut foot badly 1st
day on a broken tile in children section of pool, had to get doctor, badly cut foot.
3) Thomas Cook representative - not in attendance all 14 days - no-one there at any of times advertised on notice board. Telephoned resort office on several occasions to obtain information especially about departure arrangements and reporting accidents and concerns.
Having travelled extensively over 30 thirty years this is the worst standard of accomodation we have ever stayed in - not even close to a 3 star rating in any classification.

Advice: Loud and dirty

Activities: Pavlos restaurant

" Really enjoyed it here! "

Okay. i was quite apprehensive about going to this place because of some bad reviews. I was scared that our transfer wouldn't work, and when we got dropped outside a random hotel, i was getting scared. But some guy picked us up in a little car and took us down a small road to the hotel. I'd read that the pool was gross and green and that the rooms were dirty. BUT...when i saw the pool it was fine. No green slime. people were swimming it. there was popular music playing. there was a jacuzzi at one end. It was really really good. We spent every day by the pool and was always in it, cause it got so hot.
The room was fine. There wasn't much storage space, and for three girls that wasn't that great, but we managed. There wasn't much to use if you wanted to cook, (we ended up boiling pasta in a frying pan!) but it was fine. we only ate in once, and the food by the pool is really good, and of course there are restaurants up and down the strip. The shower had a rubbish drainage, but again, we managed.
I would recommend taking your own loo roll. and possibly your own towels. The cleaner doesn't come in that often but as long as you keep tidy its fine. We didn't really spend that much time in our rooms to be honest. It was perfect actually for the price and for sleeping and stuff like that. Just careful that you keep your doors locked when you leave. And i would recommend air con and a safety deposit box.
The barman Julio is a legend! he makes the best cocktails and happy hour is really good and its cheap stuff. If you get a good rep i would suggest that you go on the booze cruise, and listen to what they say about the clubs.
This hotel really isn't the place for families. it was filled with young people when we went and there was one family and i think they felt quite out of place. but its really good fun. But girls, take a torch or find a nice guy to walk you back along the beach because that can be scary, especially if your drunk and don't really know what's a tree and what's a person.
I would recommend this place, its out of the strip so you can go to sleep if you want to, and if you're sensible, nothing will get stolen or taken. But we had such a good holiday here.

Advice: Really good clubs and music, definately one for the young and lively

Activities: Edelwiess Bar, 42nd Street, Buzz (but don't buy drink, they're a bit dodgey), TKD's for food

" DO NOT STAY AT KOLOURIS "

No hot water the entire holiday, the room and towels stank of urine the entire time we stayed, we suspect there may have been a slight overflow from the drainage or something, booked with my partner and got 2 twin beds stuck together with a large wooden bit in the middle (may as well have spent the week apart) kettle was broken, no cooker, fidge was on balcony when we arrived and leaked the whole time we were there, electricity only works when you ghave the key in so food is spoilt either way, they charge a fortune in the bar for drinking water (think it was a euro for a small bottle or 6 large bottles at marias supermarket was 1.50 euros) was told this it is illegal for them to charge this much but not sure on the truth of this information. You will struggle to get a sunbed and if you do good luck enjoying the sun when you constantly geting splashed by the teens doing bombs in the pool or getting hit by the balls from there lads games. while we were staying there a young girl cut her foot in the babies pool. bearing in mind its a babies pool with a drainage point not covered by grate and extremely sharp cut tiles in it. The mother of this child had to pay for a doctor to see to her and the hotel wanted nothing to do with it. the beach is full of fag ends and rubbish which i dont wuite understand for a place they prides themself on the beach not one of the hotels along the beach tried to keep them clean. glass condom rappers and all sorts could be found. DO NOT BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE. especially if you are a family. if you do find the need to go to kavos for the 18-30s ensure you stay at sweet dreams, just next door to kolouris but much better family run apartments. will definately be getting in touch with thomas cook about this holiday. I am 20 and i found it to be full of immature 16-18 y olds with no respect for anything. i am surprised the greek even want anything to do with the brits over there after i seen the way they treat eveything.

" top holiday "

I have read so many bad reviews on this place which i have to totally disagree!
Myself and my boyfriend went for 14 nights at kouloris beach which has got to be the best holiday ive had so far. I must admit when we first arrived it was like 3am so very dark and quite scary going down dark dirt tracks at that time in a mini bus. The rooms are basic yeah but who goes on holiday to spend time in your rooms? hmmm. The people that own the place are so friendly we had a great laugh with them and still talk to them on msn messenger to this day. They played music around the pool (all the lastest tunes), games, watched films your name it it was ace. You are also basically on the beach, how much better can you get! the beach was clean and tidy with watersports on the door step and a stones throw into the main town which was amazing! So lively and something for everyone although i wouldnt say it was for families more 18-30s. Everything was clean and changed daily, the only downfall was cold showers but with sunburn wasnt too bad hehe.
Recommended place :-)

Advice: Great nightlife!!!

Activities: Cant remember what it was called but it was a mexican place on the corner of the high street yummy

" After arriving to the airport and... "

After arriving to the airport and getting dropped off outside a random hotel not knowing what was happing a small mini bus that would not even get to the mot centre never mind pass the mot picked us up. it then brought us on a extremely bad journey down bad roads. this was the best part of the holiday. the food was bad, the rooms where bad. the kettle didnt work, we had no lights for the 1st hour and had to sit in the dark. the shower didn't work, there was a wasps nest outside the door, the fridge and plugs didnt work. For a basic room there was alot wrong with it. the people in the two rooms next to us agreed. the owners where agressive, rude, unhelpful, sleezy but mainly very agressive. i am not usually a person to complain. if u pay a small amount you should not expect great things but the very attitude of the people who work there would make you sick. if i could give this place an overall rating of 0 i would.

" After reading some of the reviews me... "

After reading some of the reviews me and my cousin were really worried but infact non of the bad reviews could be further from the truth! On arriving to the Kalouris beach me and my cousin were a bit dissapointed as we felt it was out of the way from the nightlife, unitil we were told that if we walked straight along the beach we would get to the bars etc, which was correct. We found that the rooms were basic, clean and a maid would come in daily. All you need really when your in Kavos, Mary who runs the hotel was strict at first but really nice once you got to know her as was her son Thomas. The pool area was decent and the food was nice, quite a good selection. All in all i would recoment this hotel to any young people who want a good time partying and getting drunk in Kavos! x

" My boyfriend and I went to Koulouris... "

My boyfriend and I went to Koulouris in September and was one of the best holidays I've been on. Ok yes the rooms were basic but I think for me it was clean and that was enough. Mary and Thomas were really helpful and make the best garlic bread in the world! Kavos as a town was really lively and a lot of english topics were incorporated into the town which was nice.

The restaurants were really good and the food was brilliant. I've read the reviews but I think people are comparing the standard of living over here to in Greece. There is bound to be a difference! The only thing I would warn people about is the horse riding that is organised near by with a scottish woman, don't go I think she may be a bit dodgy and the ride wasn't very enjoyable either!

I would definitely recommend this hotel just remember not to expect anything as high standard as in England!!

" 5 of us (19-20yr old lads) stayed... "

5 of us (19-20yr old lads) stayed from the end of July for a week, in one of the 5 bedroomed maisonettes.

First off the transfer bus took us directly from the airport to the hotel – yes, you have to go down a short dirt track to get to the hotel for about 2mins - no big deal.

On arrival I thought it was a bit odd that they took and stored all of our passports for the duration of our stay - the rooms were basic but adequate, we bought the air conditioning for 50 euros which you do need as it does get very hot. Our room was fitted with an electric hob, kettle, fridge etc. The electrics in the room don’t stay on 24/7, you need to have the key fob in the holder for the electric to work therefore if you have anything in the fridge/freezer it is going to melt when you’re not in.

The pool area is great, good music, very chilled and relaxed and the excellent (white sandy) beach is a stones throw away. The bar is open 24 hours you can get a drink or some pizza 24 hours also for when you get back from a night out.

Drinks are slightly expensive - but there is a good range of bottles beers/cider that you would be familiar with from home

The only way to Bar Street is via the beach (5min walk) and it does get dark at night as there is no lighting. We were getting in around 4/5am at which time it was getting light(ish) so that wasn’t a problem for us.

The mosquitoes in Kavos are horrendous - I don’t normally get bitten but I was covered from head to toe in bites so make sure to take repellant.

The actual resort of Kavos itself is ideal for young and lively - not for families at all (there was a family staying at the Koulouris Beach while we were there and it didn’t look like they were having fun).

There are a decent amount of bars along the strip most of which spill out onto the street - all with different types of music. There are a few clubs some of have nights where a DJ plays (Dave Pearce was on when we were there) these clubs also back out onto the beach and on night times and there are BBQs and beach fires every night.

After being to Malia twice in previous years I would say this hotel/resort is definitely on par and in some aspects better - would definitely recommend this place for Summer 2008 but not for families!

" We (two girls) got a last minute... "

We (two girls) got a last minute holiday with Libra and knew we weren't in for luxury but boy was that an understatement!

The coach driver taking us from the airport thought he was from '2 fast 2 furious' and got lost about 5 times before dropping us off in the middle of nowhere leaving 5 girls to walk down a dark track to the apartments. When we finally reached Koulouris Beach we had our passports taken away from us by the bar man Nikos and when we were shown into our apartment we were met with a broken wardrobe and a foul smell from the toilet which only subsided after four vigorous flushes!

The apartments are extremely basic and, as the maid had left the window open during the day, ours was full of mosquitoes and other creepy crawlies. The sheets were decorated with cigarette burns and were not changed during the whole week we stayed there. The place just looked run down and uncared for.

As others have said in their reviews, air conditioning is a must as it not only keeps you cool at night, it also keeps bugs out. It's definitely worth the 40 euros!

The pool area was fairly clean with a good number of sunbeds. Breakfasts and other food are cheaper and better in town although for late night drinks and chats with Nikos, the pool bar is the place to be!

The main town is a five minute walk across the beach. Don't attempt the road, it's far too far. The best thing about Koulouris Beach is it's location.

Kavos as a town is better for groups and definitely unsuitable for families. PRs are absolutely everywhere tempting you with drinks but just be firm and keep walking. Our favourite place was 'Rolling Stone' by far. A cool indie nightclub opens at 1:30 in the back and in the front, pop music gets everyone dancing!

To eat for lunch, we had fantastic chicken kebabs from a snack shop on the corner near the 'Barn' and for our evening meals we liked both 'Nikolas Taverna' and 'Aristos' opposite. Also if you get chance, try the greek night at 'The Great Britain'. We blagged loads of free drinks!

A great day out is 'Aqualand'. We booked a trip through a local travel agent and had a great day for a reasonable price (well it would have been better without the hangovers!).

Overall, Koulouris is great if you're on a budget but if you can we'd recommend trying somewhere different.

" This holiday was a total disgrace.... "

This holiday was a total disgrace. Arrived at about 6am after getting dumped at a hotel and picked up by a man who spoke no english to be squashed in the back of a scruffy mini bus down a mud path to the hotel.

The toilets were covered on the outside with poo, and when ask if the cleaner could come to clean it Mary looked got a bit of tissue paper and wiped it away!

Our room was cleaned once throughout the stay and with one of our friends having had a nasty accident on her foot, the room needed cleaning as much as possible. The towels on arrival smelt and we ended up using our beach towels for the whole week!

The walk along the beach back to the hotel after a night out is awful. People sitting in bushes and weird men. You will really get annoyed with the sand!

As for the hotel., bed and breakfast is a waste of time. If you’re not up by 9am no breakfast will be served, bare in mind it’s only toast. Having a pleasant drink sat on the balcony before going out a rat ran across the wall above our heads.

The "security" man barged into our room at 8am and threatened all the people in there.

Kavos as a whole is a dump although we had good times out after meeting some lovely people. The PR's are annoying. Trinity is rubbish but Atlantis is amazing!

" The Koulouris Beach is without a... "

The Koulouris Beach is without a doubt the worst resort I have ever experienced. Simple is an understatement, pleasant is extremely inaccurate. I do not have unrealistically high standards, and I know especially from a clubbing/mates holiday the accommodation was going to be basic. However I have been on similar holidays before, yet never experienced anything to be as abysmal as this.

Overpriced drinks with a beer or soft-drink priced around 4 Euro’s and upon arrival you are expected to pay 50 Euro’s a week for air conditioning.

Sheets are cleaned once weekly. During our stay we were not even provided with towels let alone having them cleaned, although I do know some friends were provided with them at the beginning of the holiday.

The cleaner comes in everyday whatever state you may be in with no respect for privacy. Although all she seems to do is empty the bin in the toilet and leave. When first using the shower each day you will be expected to run the water for about 5mins to let the brown water wash away.

The swimming pool is a green colour, and within a few days any white swimming shorts/costumes will almost certainly be turned green as well.

The Hotel does not have an excellent location, it is a way away from the nightlife but the walk home along the beach is not to bad. The sea seems clean enough, but the beach has quite a lot of debris left upon it.

I would recommend the nightlife of Kavos but I would not recommend the Koulouris Beach.

" We arrived 9 hours later than... "

We arrived 9 hours later than expected which basically stripped us of our first day of our hols.

To cut a long arrival short we were greeted by Mary and shown to our rooms. The rooms yes were basic but after some terrible experiences in Greece over the years I was quite happy with the basics of the room. They're ok for lads although Amanda wasn’t too impressed!

Aircon was a god send and well worth 50 Euros although don’t leave it switched on or it'll get confiscated lol! The security guard stories are true.

The water was only hot twice a day. At 9 in morn, which If you up late partying is a lil early. And at 7 at night for about half an hour. No clean linen etc either so try keep your room tidy and take your own towels.

Ladies don’t walk the beach path alone as its very dark, has strange local men wandering it late at night, and also dogs that scare the crap out of ya!

As I mentioned earlier I found the hotel acceptable for myself. Only want somewhere to sleep n wash.

The pool was great fun with a great selection of music. Ideal to chill out around and have a laugh.

Food prices were good too although drinks were extortionate. 3.75 For a glass of Fanta! Mary and Thomas were very friendly once you got talking to them too.

I enjoyed my stay here and loved the nightlife and was fortunate to have a reasonable room for so late in the season.

If the lads from Blyth read this then hope you had as much fun as I did (and that your ribs are better!) And also big hello to Rhianne and Joanne!

I'd definitely do Kavos again! Amanda says it’s ok to lol!
