Sep 2006, Miss E J Astell

After reading many of the reviews I was a little apprehensive about this place. However, I had a satisfactory holiday. The rooms where a little basic for my liking but been my first holiday abroad I was entirely sure what to expect by all means.
We were taken in a minibus to the apartment after departuring the coach that took us to Kavos from the airport. I did wonder if the minibus was road worthy as it had a cracked windscreen and didn't seem very reliable...
The pool area was extremely clean and there were no rats and neither were there lots of lizards in the wardrobes (hence one ladies comment on the website). The resort doesn't smell bad at all.
I certainly agree with the comments about the beach being dark. My boyfriend and I hated it late at night- in fact that's why the barmaids didn't get much "joy" when they tried to pull us into bars; hence wanting to get back knowing we had a dodgy walk home back to the apartment.
The nightlife is superb- the food is excellent. Try Uncle Harry's restaurant- if any are worth a try this one certainly is.
Libra holidays in my opinion don't employ very reliable knowledgeable reps. we had a rep called Laura who practically couldn't even book us on the day excursions we wanted to be on.
I suggest if you book on any day trips you do not book through the rep you go into town and book through the offices in town advertising the trips. Yes, they are cheaper through the rep but just going into small detail for example; we booked to go to Aqua Land on Sunday and the bus didn't turn up because Aqua land had been shut because of the rain- could we have not been told?
At least if we'd known we wouldn't have wasted our energy walking down to the supermarket. We were offered a refund or a different day so we decided to give Wednesday a go and still would you believe the bus that turned up wouldn't take us due to us booking through Libra- hence why you should book in town then you know the transport is reliable..
So all in all we didn't get to Aqua Land.. We went to Corfu by night shopping- which I do recommend if you like clothes and designer clothing that is genuine not fake market rubbish!!
All I do find with the place is- it's a little on the "chavish" side and certainly not for families more for young and is very similar to 18-30 holidays- my boyfriend says.
I would recommend Kavos if you are looking for a lively resort- but a few things to take into consideration- take a touch and do not book day excursions through reps book by the office in town. You pay more but at least your bus will turn up.
Have fun!!

All I have noticed is a lot of moaning about this hotel and agreed it’s not a 5 star complex but those who book late holidays shouldn’t expect the Taj Mahal palace, especially those who book a family holiday without thinking or reading up first.
Me and my Girlfriend had a really good time and were happy with the hospitality of the people working there, Mary is a lovely lady but when people only speak when they want something how can you expect to have a sociable response, my advice is to sit and have a chat with them rather than jus think of them as a service. I would recommend this hotel to young people as this town is a big place for nightlife. (in other words, not a family holiday!

Having read very negative comments on...

Aug 2006, Miss N Wilton

Having read very negative comments on this hotel 2 days before I was about to go, to say i was worried was an understatement. However, for the week I stayed there I have hardly any complaints about it.
I went for a week with my boyfriend. The coach picked us up from the airport, but as we got nearer to out hotel, we had to get off and catch a mini bus as the roads were too small for the coach. When the mini bus arrives, it doesn’t look great but the guy who picks you up is lovely and friendly and works very hard! Kavos seems to have a problem with lighting, there is lack of it! So when the mini bus is taking you to Koulouris, don't panic as it is very dark, but you won't be using the road at night, you use the beach to get into the town.
Having arrived at Kolouris, I stayed in B22, and I have to say for a 2* hotel, the room was very clean and the bathroom is the best I have ever seen! (Apart from the shower which is a bit pants) Its basic but livable. I would recommend taking a fan with you, or hiring one as there is no air conditioning and the rooms can get a bit hot.
Throughout the week, my boyfriend and I alternated between the pool and the beach, as the beach is so close to the hotel. Just be careful of the annoying men trying to sell you illegal CDs on the beach!
We went on the Theo's Boat trip which was a fab day out, but this is not for families as there is lots of drinking and loud music on board!
As for nightlife, what can I say? Its wicked! There are so many clubs and bars, and drink is relatively cheap. An example is for 4 euros, you get 2 cocktails, a shot and a bottle of champagne and that’s just in 1 bar! There are also bars where you can chill and watch friends or a film that they are showing.
However, the beach is very dark at night (as there are no lights), so i would recommend taking a torch, or walking back in groups as it can be quite scary on your own late at night!
All in all, i had a fab time at the Koulouris. Many people have mentioned stuff about rats running about and ants, but i didn't see anything while I was there. Mary is lovely (she runs the hotel) and will help you whenever she can. I would say that the Kolouris is actually well situated as you are 5 mins from the main town, but you are not on top of the noise so you can sleep at night!
I would say that Kavos is not a place for families as it is too loud and full of young people. One last thing! The mosquitoes out there are an absolute nightmare, I got bitten 30 times!! So take plenty of repellent, and the thing that you stick into the wall to catch them. Its quite unpleasant scratching all the time in the heat!

Aug 2006, Ms C Kellett

We have just come back from the holiday from hell. Although the staff are friendly that is the only decent thing to be said about the place.
Do not go here with children, you will find there is absolutely nothing for them to do. The rooms are basic to say the least; there are no facilities and the clientele this place (and Libra holidays it seems) attracts are not the kind of people anybody would want to spend a week living near.
Libra did nothing to assist us and were not remotely sympathetic to the hell we suffered. This is enough to put us off Corfu for life, though I believe Kavos is the depth of filth, that no other resort could match.
If you've already booked - get your money back now! The one out of ten rating is only because ZERO wasn't an option.

Aug 2006, Mrs A Gates

Where can I start. On arrival we were quite impressed. The pool area and complex appeared to be quiet and far enough out of Kavos to not hear all the music. We stayed in a maisonette which thankfully only had three of us in it (it would not be big enough for five).
The stairs leading up to the open plan bedroom were however very steep indeed. As for the self catering aspect it was extremely basic (the kettle had to be plugged in across the other side of the room).
We never had our weekly linen or towel change and after we had used our 2 toilet rolls we were told because we were self catering we had to buy our own. Also, the maids ran a mop around the room but there was never any evidence or smell of the use of cleaning products.
We never saw any rats but had a very heavy footed creature running across our roof into the overlying bushes. It is very nicely located to walk into Kavos, but the beach is pitch black at night and we would never have walked it alone.
Now for the best bits. A day or two into our holidays some apartments were broken into. We returned to our apartment the following night with friends who were staying in a neighbouring apartment (but who were using the Koulouris' facilities) to be approached by a man wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap who also had a metal pole.
He barged into our apartment to see who was there and after managing to tell us in broken English to go to reception, we were informed that we could no longer have visitors due to increased security measures.
Our friends could not even use the pool bar. Later on that evening, one of our friends returned to our room to be attacked by this 'security guard' and his metal pole. We were then threatened with the police.
Mary claimed that she had hired these men from the police. They questioned new night time arrivals and unsettled people to such an extent that people were transferred.
Overall the location is good. But do not expect any sleep either day or night, or any co-operation from the staff.

If you've just booked your holiday to...
1 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr M Honour

If you've just booked your holiday to the Koulouris Beach Hotel in Kavos then you've just booked your holiday from Hell!
We spent a week in the hotel and have never stayed in such a grimy disgusting place in our lives. We booked a last minute holiday at a low price but we didn't think it would be that bad, after flying through the night from Gatwick airport we arrived very early on the Tuesday morning, got on a coach through Corfu and arrived at a hotel at the far end of Kavos. 'Not bad' we thought 'looks ok' not realising this wasn't actually our hotel. We got dumped with all of our luggage for around 10 minutes in the blistering heat shattered from the travelling when a 'clapped' out s***box of a minibus arrived to pick us all up. The Koulouris apartments were further down the road following a windy gravel track.
Upon greeting the owner Mary she handed us our room key and proceeded to show us our room. The rooms were divided up into 4 blocks. Block A,B,C, and D. Our room was in block A. Upon walking towards the building (which was a good few minutes walk from the main swimming pool area) we could barely make out the building from all the Ivy and trees that were hiding it. Walking up to the second level we were instantly hit with a peculiar smell that didn't smell nice at all.
Mary opened the door and showed us our room. My instant reactions were ' Are you joking?'. The room was small and basic with two beds pushed together (not our idea of a double) with a bathroom at the far end. Mary left and we instantly wanted to leave. We had seen cleaner and better dormitories! The floor was grimy and dirty and the bed linen and towels were stained. It was also clear that the smell was coming from our bathroom now. The definite smell of urine.
The shower was made up of garden hose and the shower rail was hanging off the wall. The toilet was stained and the water in it was a murky brown. The bathroom window was made up of slats and some were missing. The balcony had major over grown ivy above us crawling with wasps and other insects. It became clear to us that there was a wasps nest nearby as they eventually started to swarm. The Ivy above us dripped 'sap' onto the balcony floor making it sticky and covering our towels as they dried - attracting more wasps.
As we walked back to reception to complain to Mary, we bumped into some Geordie lads that had arrived the night before. They explained that at 5am their room had been broken into and their luggage, passports and money had been stolen while they were out in Kavos town. They were left with only the clothes they had gone out in! This was not something we wanted to hear as when we just left our own apartment the door wouldn't lock!
Upon finding Mary back at the pool I explained that we weren't happy with the room and her reaction was 'so what?' 'I have no more rooms'. She sent the handy man to repair the door and promised the maid would come and clean the toilet (which she never did).
We ended up buying our own cleaning products and scented candles to rid of the foul smell and cleaned it ourselves (not the ideal way to start your holiday!)
After finally sorting out the smell and the general cleanliness of our room we spoke to others in our block that all thought the same as we did. It was a s*** hole.
The swimming pool was an off blue colour and was mossy around the edges - we found a much nicer pool nearby that we spent our whole holiday around. The people there were much friendlier and it felt more like a holiday being there.
The other blocks (BC+D) looked like newer blocks so we weren't sure if the rooms were any cleaner from what we could see from the outside they certainly looked better than ours. We never attempted breakfast once as it was only coffee and 2 bits of toast.
On the last day we discovered the area was also riddled with bats and we also spotted a rat climbing the ivy in our apartment which was huge! Bigger than any English rat we had seen!
Kavos in general wasn't too bad - just stay clear of the main strip if you’re after a 'hassle' free holiday. There are some nice restaurants around and most meals we ate were good. The only trouble with eating in the daytime was you were constantly pestered by wasps.
Take our advice and don't stay at the Kolouris Beach hotel - we are currently going though Libra holidays for compensation.

All I can say about the place is that...

Aug 2006, Mrs L Alderson

All I can say about the place is that its a dump. I wasn't expecting anything special but l did expect clean towels and the beds to be changed.
If you wanted any towels you were expected to pay 3euros, no air con in the rooms and 15 euros to hire a fan for a week everything was money, money, money to them, they were ripping the young lads off who were still drunk from the night/morning by charging what they wanted for the drinks. There were rats spotted and reported to the owner (Mary) who knew about them and even showed a guest where they we coming from. I mean come on.
I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy it really is the pits.

Oh my god! I’ve just come back from 2 weeks in Kavos and have to agree that the nightlife is wicked! Its full of bars, clubs etc all really cheap drink with good music! (Buzz, Futures, Atlantis and Afters were my favourites)
However, I stayed at the Koulouris Beach Hotel. What an absolute dump! Anyone who said this hotel was good must have been drunk the whole time! No air con, no TV, the safety deposit box was in reception, sheets changed once a week and don’t even get me started on the walk along the beach at night!
I paid £419 for my holiday, don’t get me wrong I wasn't expecting a palace, but I wasn't expecting a rubbish bin either! When we arrived we had to get off of the coach a mile up the road and was transported by a little van/bus thing which so wasn't safe to be on the road!
The walk at night was very dangerous, I was just lucky I had a group of lads to walk with every night! The hotel in general was dirty and the rooms were either full of ants or smelled because there was no air con!
All I can say is that all these people are money grabbers! I wouldn’t even recommend this disgusting hotel to my worst enemy!

The resort was basic with a studio room for 2, with a bathroom and 2 single beds it had everything we needed to stay there for 2 weeks and nothing more, for a launching pad to the rest of the town it was a good place to stay, as most pools were open to everyone and night life was a little walk away.
Staff seemed friendly enough and cleaners came everyday to make bed and sweep the floor, but not much else, they changed the bed sheets once in 2 weeks but there was spares if needed. No air con so rooms get hot but as you’re asleep when you’re in there should be no problem.
Pool was not the best as only 0.90meters with loud music from early on. I'd recommend it to groups of young people, not really ideal for families.

I have just come back from Kavos and I have to say it was definitely the best holiday I have ever been to. Being a bit of a hygiene freak and having read all the negative comments about the hotel, I was very worried about staying there. Much to my surprise the hotel was in fact very clean, the rooms were cleaned every day and very thoroughly too.
The sheets and towels usually only get changed once a week but if you ask Mary (the owner of the hotel) whether you can have some new ones then she will arrange it for you straight away. The staff were all friendly and made you feel very welcome. The pool was nice and clean and the actual hotel is right by the beach. The bars and clubs are about a 10 minute walk from the hotel which isn't too bad but I was just with two other girls so we usually took a taxi home which only cost eight euros between us!
I would definitely go here again and would recommend the blue lagoon boat journey! have fun! X

Jul 2006, Mr Dan Sampson

Having read some bad reports I was a bit worried about the apartments, but they turned out to be fine. They were cleaned everyday, the fact that there was no air conditioning was a problem but bring your own fans or hire one out.
The bar staff I found quite unfriendly and one day I sat for 10 minutes at the bar but wasn't served despite the fact that there was no queue. Also, as we were in the far apartment it was a 5 minute walk to the pool everyday. It’s good the way the pool is so close to the beach however.
Finally, I saw a few rats in my week there running about the grass round our apartment block!

Jul 2006, Mr P P Butters

On arrival to the resort, we were dropped off at the Koulouris beach sister hotel about a mile from the hotel, at 3:00 am out side without any staff, waiting 30 mins for a scruffy mini bus to pick us up.
We then arrived at the hotel, and went to our rooms, the rooms were fine, no air conditioning at all but apart from that they were ok. It was costing 4 euro a pint but you can go next door, (2mins away) and pay 2 euro. In the 2 weeks we were there are rooms had been cleaned once. They squeeze every single penny they can out of you.
We were invited to an "all you can eat buffet" costing 15 euro, we then found out on arrival it was only 2 chicken kebabs :s
So if I was you give this hotel a miss.
