Nov 2007, Mr A Sawyers

1 reader found this review helpful

5 of us (19-20yr old lads) stayed from the end of July for a week, in one of the 5 bedroomed maisonettes.
First off the transfer bus took us directly from the airport to the hotel – yes, you have to go down a short dirt track to get to the hotel for about 2mins - no big deal.
On arrival I thought it was a bit odd that they took and stored all of our passports for the duration of our stay - the rooms were basic but adequate, we bought the air conditioning for 50 euros which you do need as it does get very hot. Our room was fitted with an electric hob, kettle, fridge etc. The electrics in the room don’t stay on 24/7, you need to have the key fob in the holder for the electric to work therefore if you have anything in the fridge/freezer it is going to melt when you’re not in.
The pool area is great, good music, very chilled and relaxed and the excellent (white sandy) beach is a stones throw away. The bar is open 24 hours you can get a drink or some pizza 24 hours also for when you get back from a night out.
Drinks are slightly expensive - but there is a good range of bottles beers/cider that you would be familiar with from home
The only way to Bar Street is via the beach (5min walk) and it does get dark at night as there is no lighting. We were getting in around 4/5am at which time it was getting light(ish) so that wasn’t a problem for us.
The mosquitoes in Kavos are horrendous - I don’t normally get bitten but I was covered from head to toe in bites so make sure to take repellant.
The actual resort of Kavos itself is ideal for young and lively - not for families at all (there was a family staying at the Koulouris Beach while we were there and it didn’t look like they were having fun).
There are a decent amount of bars along the strip most of which spill out onto the street - all with different types of music. There are a few clubs some of have nights where a DJ plays (Dave Pearce was on when we were there) these clubs also back out onto the beach and on night times and there are BBQs and beach fires every night.
After being to Malia twice in previous years I would say this hotel/resort is definitely on par and in some aspects better - would definitely recommend this place for Summer 2008 but not for families!

We (two girls) got a last minute...
6 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss H Foley And L Earley

We (two girls) got a last minute holiday with Libra and knew we weren't in for luxury but boy was that an understatement!
The coach driver taking us from the airport thought he was from '2 fast 2 furious' and got lost about 5 times before dropping us off in the middle of nowhere leaving 5 girls to walk down a dark track to the apartments. When we finally reached Koulouris Beach we had our passports taken away from us by the bar man Nikos and when we were shown into our apartment we were met with a broken wardrobe and a foul smell from the toilet which only subsided after four vigorous flushes!
The apartments are extremely basic and, as the maid had left the window open during the day, ours was full of mosquitoes and other creepy crawlies. The sheets were decorated with cigarette burns and were not changed during the whole week we stayed there. The place just looked run down and uncared for.
As others have said in their reviews, air conditioning is a must as it not only keeps you cool at night, it also keeps bugs out. It's definitely worth the 40 euros!
The pool area was fairly clean with a good number of sunbeds. Breakfasts and other food are cheaper and better in town although for late night drinks and chats with Nikos, the pool bar is the place to be!
The main town is a five minute walk across the beach. Don't attempt the road, it's far too far. The best thing about Koulouris Beach is it's location.
Kavos as a town is better for groups and definitely unsuitable for families. PRs are absolutely everywhere tempting you with drinks but just be firm and keep walking. Our favourite place was 'Rolling Stone' by far. A cool indie nightclub opens at 1:30 in the back and in the front, pop music gets everyone dancing!
To eat for lunch, we had fantastic chicken kebabs from a snack shop on the corner near the 'Barn' and for our evening meals we liked both 'Nikolas Taverna' and 'Aristos' opposite. Also if you get chance, try the greek night at 'The Great Britain'. We blagged loads of free drinks!
A great day out is 'Aqualand'. We booked a trip through a local travel agent and had a great day for a reasonable price (well it would have been better without the hangovers!).
Overall, Koulouris is great if you're on a budget but if you can we'd recommend trying somewhere different.

This holiday was a total disgrace....

Sep 2007, Miss K Jones

This holiday was a total disgrace. Arrived at about 6am after getting dumped at a hotel and picked up by a man who spoke no english to be squashed in the back of a scruffy mini bus down a mud path to the hotel.
The toilets were covered on the outside with poo, and when ask if the cleaner could come to clean it Mary looked got a bit of tissue paper and wiped it away!
Our room was cleaned once throughout the stay and with one of our friends having had a nasty accident on her foot, the room needed cleaning as much as possible. The towels on arrival smelt and we ended up using our beach towels for the whole week!
The walk along the beach back to the hotel after a night out is awful. People sitting in bushes and weird men. You will really get annoyed with the sand!
As for the hotel., bed and breakfast is a waste of time. If you’re not up by 9am no breakfast will be served, bare in mind it’s only toast. Having a pleasant drink sat on the balcony before going out a rat ran across the wall above our heads.
The "security" man barged into our room at 8am and threatened all the people in there.
Kavos as a whole is a dump although we had good times out after meeting some lovely people. The PR's are annoying. Trinity is rubbish but Atlantis is amazing!

The Koulouris Beach is without a...
1 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr A Woolley

The Koulouris Beach is without a doubt the worst resort I have ever experienced. Simple is an understatement, pleasant is extremely inaccurate. I do not have unrealistically high standards, and I know especially from a clubbing/mates holiday the accommodation was going to be basic. However I have been on similar holidays before, yet never experienced anything to be as abysmal as this.
Overpriced drinks with a beer or soft-drink priced around 4 Euro’s and upon arrival you are expected to pay 50 Euro’s a week for air conditioning.
Sheets are cleaned once weekly. During our stay we were not even provided with towels let alone having them cleaned, although I do know some friends were provided with them at the beginning of the holiday.
The cleaner comes in everyday whatever state you may be in with no respect for privacy. Although all she seems to do is empty the bin in the toilet and leave. When first using the shower each day you will be expected to run the water for about 5mins to let the brown water wash away.
The swimming pool is a green colour, and within a few days any white swimming shorts/costumes will almost certainly be turned green as well.
The Hotel does not have an excellent location, it is a way away from the nightlife but the walk home along the beach is not to bad. The sea seems clean enough, but the beach has quite a lot of debris left upon it.
I would recommend the nightlife of Kavos but I would not recommend the Koulouris Beach.

We arrived 9 hours later than...
6 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr Stephen Fergus & Amanda Hill

We arrived 9 hours later than expected which basically stripped us of our first day of our hols.
To cut a long arrival short we were greeted by Mary and shown to our rooms. The rooms yes were basic but after some terrible experiences in Greece over the years I was quite happy with the basics of the room. They're ok for lads although Amanda wasn’t too impressed!
Aircon was a god send and well worth 50 Euros although don’t leave it switched on or it'll get confiscated lol! The security guard stories are true.
The water was only hot twice a day. At 9 in morn, which If you up late partying is a lil early. And at 7 at night for about half an hour. No clean linen etc either so try keep your room tidy and take your own towels.
Ladies don’t walk the beach path alone as its very dark, has strange local men wandering it late at night, and also dogs that scare the crap out of ya!
As I mentioned earlier I found the hotel acceptable for myself. Only want somewhere to sleep n wash.
The pool was great fun with a great selection of music. Ideal to chill out around and have a laugh.
Food prices were good too although drinks were extortionate. 3.75 For a glass of Fanta! Mary and Thomas were very friendly once you got talking to them too.
I enjoyed my stay here and loved the nightlife and was fortunate to have a reasonable room for so late in the season.
If the lads from Blyth read this then hope you had as much fun as I did (and that your ribs are better!) And also big hello to Rhianne and Joanne!
I'd definitely do Kavos again! Amanda says it’s ok to lol!

The rating is for the Kolouris Hotel...
1 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr M Barry

The rating is for the Kolouris Hotel and NOT Kavos in general!
Basically the Kolouris Beach Hotel wrecked our holiday!
We went as a group of 8 and so was split up into 3 seperate rooms, none of us expected much but what we got was pathetic.
All of us being teenage guys are never that bothered about conditions we lived in but this was shocking our bed linen and towels were NEVER changed over the two weeks, in fact in order to receive clean towels we had to 'steal' them from the maids room.
The swimming pool was also foul and seemed to be full of scummy water.
Staff at the Kolouris Beach Hotel were unhelpful and made us feel uneasy. The security guard we were promised was usually seen eating pizza and drinking at our pool bar in the nights.
This was not handy when we returned from a night out around 4.30am to discover one of our three rooms had been broken into and many items includng ipods, phones and a suitcase stolen. In our desperation we asked night bar staff (Mikos i think was his name) to call the police, he told us they would arrive in 30 minutes. As we were waiting the security guard finally got off his backside to inspect the room. This allowed us to locate marks on the door (that was checked to be securely locked several times before we left) seemingly from a screwdriver or similar tool that aided the robbers in opening the door.
1 hour later the police were still not at the apartment, fed up of waiting we decided to ring the police from a payphone only to hear from them that no original call was made to them!!! Mikos had lied about ringing the police (refer back to staff being unhelpful).
To our disgust when one of the boys parents rang to check what had gone on Mary told her that we had left our balcony door wide open and it was our fault that we had been robbed, this was just after she sympathised with our bad luck in being victims of the robbery. She appeared as if she was covering something up.
The resort of Kavos otherwise is good and with the amount of bars and clubs there is something for everyone unfortunatley our holiday never really recovered from the robbery and the grotesque living conditions. I reccomened Kavos but I warn anyone preparing to stay at Kolouris be careful and lower your expectations.

I went with 2 of my friends the other...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss L Beardmore

I went with 2 of my friends the other week. We arrived at Corfu airport at around 1am and took a 1 hr transfer 2 our resort.
When we arrived we had to wait for a mini bus to take us to the apartments as the roads were too narrow for the coach to go down, we thought we may have been left there after the mini bus took the first lot of people, but it did return for us after 10 minutes or so.
It's not the best start when all you want to do is get to bed after the journey!
The apartments were basic, but you don't spend much time in there at all so they did for us. As there was me and 2 others we stayed in the apartments nearer to the bar, which wasn't too bad when walking home at night, as it was quite light.
But I met a few people whose apartments were further back and it was really dark around there. It needs a lot more lights to make you feel safe.
I would recommend buying air conditioning which cost about 40 Euros or so as it does get really hot in the rooms, and you do not want to leave doors or windows open for a, getting broken into and b, the mosquitoes!
Us 3 did not get bitten at all throughout the hol, but everyone we saw were covered in bites! So I would recommend lots of repellent and plug in's.
The pool and bar area is clean and tidy, and we spent most of the week around there throughout the day.
The only other bad thing I could say is the walk back at night when you've been into town, it is very dark along the beach so I would recommend walking together and taking a torch!
The apartments aren't the best but they were adequate, although I’m not sure they actually change the towels and sheets when they say they do!
Overall Kavos itself was the best hol Iv been on, I loved it! So enjoy!

Apr 2007, Miss S Unknown

I went with 10 people and it was fantastic. There was lots of things to do, Mary, Tom and Nikos were all awesome and I have plans to go back next year.
You could just relax and have a drink by the pool and the rooms were very nice too.
There is plenty to do during the day; there is water sports just up the beach which is very cheap.
If you just like to stay by the pool stay at the apartment and have a bite to eat, the food is delicious.
And at night take the five minute walk up the beach and enjoy the night life, plenty for young and older people.
Overall it is a great place to stay I would recommend it to anyone.

Jan 2007, Mr L Tickner

After looking at this website before my holiday I was a little apprehensive, but upon arrival these doubts had disappeared!
I went to Kavos with a mixed group of boys and girl’s altogether there was 13 of us and we enjoyed every moment.
The hotel staff and bar staff are excellent, many a night spend chatting to Tomas and learning Greek swear words!
The main centre of Kavos is a five minute walk along the beach and is one of the best I’ve been to; walking down the high street you will be hassled by reps but by the end of the week.
The pubs and clubs are brilliant, ignore the free shots as there are usually very low in alcohol!
The hotel is quite obviously for the younger generation and is great fun! The rooms are basic but clean! And when they say it is on the beach it is - the hotel actually owns the beach outside of it.
Overall I and my mates had a holiday of a lifetime! I especially as I met my now girlfriend there and we have been together for six months now!
Enjoy and drink as much as u can!

Me and my boyfriend booked this hotel...
3 / 10
Jan 2007, Miss C Verrier

Me and my boyfriend booked this hotel on the teletext.
Not really having any idea what it was going to look like, so having found out the details, I looked in a Libra Holidays brochure for details of Koulouris Beach Hotel.
Surprisingly it looked ok. Basic but ok, it also said that there was televisions in the rooms and that there was a games room.
Upon arriving at Corfu airport, we boarded a coach that was going to be taking us to the hotel. A rep from Libra got on our coach and told us where we were heading and that there was going to be someone at the other end waiting for us.
Then this Rep got off the bus - so we had no idea where we were heading... The rep got on the bus eventually but not at Koulouris, no she told us that we would have a mini bus driver waiting there 4 us... and off she got again.
We got off outside another hotel to wait for this mini bus which was more of a van with windows than anything. HORRIBLE!!
When being shown to our room, it was right the other side of the hotel up these horrible steep steps.
Once in the room it was dark and dingy, and the balcony doors didn’t close they would just slide right across in to the wall and leave a gap either side between the window and the wall!! I know that no-one watches tele whilst in holiday but it took the mick really cos there was a T.V stand but no tele...
The pool however really wasn’t that bad and seemed clean, the games room was non existent and was only a shed with a pool table in literally!
I wouldn’t personally stay here again and will never be using Libra as tour operators either.

Arrived at Koulouris beach early...
1 / 10
Nov 2006, Mrs T Harvey

Arrived at Koulouris beach early hours in morning. The Minni bus driver showed us to our room which smelled of sewage as soon as he opened the door. Later that day we spoke to the rep who said we could not be moved and that she would tell the maintenance man to have a look. It still smelled. So we asked to be moved again, this time we spoke to Mary who moved us to the ground floor.
Ok room but cold we had no blanket. And when we asked for one we was told there was not any. We had two doors a front door and patio doors to the back, which would not lock. I have been all over the world (and Greece) And this is the worst accommodation I have stayed in. I have stayed in mostly 1 and 2 stars. And even the 1 stars have been better in every way than the koulouris beach.
I found the owner was nice to people who where spending money eating and drinking in her bar. So if she was that nice to you, as many have said, then she was after your money. The night we was leaving the owner ignored us. She knew we were going home so she had nothing to lose. We left our room at midday and was not being picked up till 2am the next morning.
When we asked Mary could we keep our room on she wanted more than other rooms in center. (The room was vacant) Mary also owns the hotel where the Minni bus picks you up when you arrive. And she chooses to sleep there rather than at Koulouris beach. I wonder why? Go to Canary Islands there’s something for every one.

I've noticed that Koulouris Beach...
8 / 10
Oct 2006, rlm3278

I've noticed that Koulouris Beach Hotel has some bad reviews, if you think this place is bad you should try staying at Seaside on the other side of the centre!
Koulouris was a palace in comparison! My boyfriend & I were dumped by Libra Holidays into Seaside for 2 days, (what an absolute dump - see reviews for Seaside).
When we finally moved to Koulouris we'd already lost 3 days of a 7 day holiday, but at last we finally felt like we could relax & start enjoying our holiday after an awful lot of hassle.
Mary & all her staff are lovely, very helpful & friendly. We enjoyed sunbathing by the pool, which was very relaxing. The pool itself was nice, clean & had a jacuzzi area. The hotel is directly on the beach which makes it easier to get into town, only takes 5 minutes by beach or about 25 minutes by road.
If you are planning on using the beach to get to town it's not lit up at night (only a problem for girls wearing sandals).
Although Koulouris is only 2 Star accommodation it is fine for sleeping, showering etc, the rooms are basic - but who wants to spend their holiday in the room! The only thing I will say is that food & drink at the pool bar was quite expensive, and also the room we had was slightly damp which caused some breathing problems - so not for asthma sufferers.
Unfortunately I was bitten about 20 times by mosquitoes! So be warned, take lots of repellent even if you don't usually get bitten, that's where I went wrong. Mosquitoes in Kavos were vicious, my bites became infected & I had to go for medical treatment which also wasn't nice.
Kavos is generally not a great place for kids, they would be bored out of their minds. It's more of an 18-30 resort (something which we specifically said we didn't want when we booked)!
However, staying at Koulouris made the last 4 days of our holiday a lot more enjoyable than it would have been at Seaside & the other guests there were also nice, friendly people.
All in all, if you must go to Kavos, don't expect too much from it. However I do recommend Koulouris Beach Hotel as a nice, friendly & quiet place to stay.
The town centre had some nice restaurants but lots of very annoying touters, which if you're not going to drink yourself stupid, is really annoying.
Finally, never book a holiday with Libra Holidays - an absolute shambles of a tour operator!
