Gouvia Hotel Review
My wife and I stayed at the Gouvia Hotel in August 2011 and had a great holiday, the hotel has been renovated within the last couple of years so any earlier reviews can be disregarded. We were in room 106 which was very spacious well furnished. Rooms are cleaned daily and the whole hotel is well decorated with an Ancient Greek theme. The pool is cleaned daily and there were always more than enough sunbeds. The pool is large for the size of the Hotel and gets plenty of sunshine and the balconies are a good size.
The Hotel is run by a family of restaurateurs who opened the first restaurant in Gouvia over 50 years ago. There is an internal restaurant where a basic breakfast is served daily consisting of fresh bread cheese, sliced meats, cereal etc. The main a-la-carte restaurant is situated at the front of the hotel and it is superb. The menu is large with something to suit all tastes with prices ranging from about £6.00 for things like pizza's and mousaka, steak meals range from £9.00 to £13.50 and the house wines are good. While we were there the restaurant was full every night with a great atmosphere, but they will always reserve a table for hotel guests.
For a two star hotel the room rates were a bargain and in my opinion you get more than it is fair to expect. We like inexpensive clean hotels with character, good food, nice pool and good situation, that seems a lot to ask but The Gouvia Hotel ticks all those boxes. If like us you want to keep as much money in your pocket as possible to spend on the attractions Gouvia offers and your expectations are realistic you will be delighted with The Gouvia Hotel.
Corfu is about 25 minutes away and there is a regular service with the stop only a short walk away but by the time you get to Corfu the bus will be full with standing room only. I can't remember the fare but it is not expensive. You can hire a motor boat big enough for 8 at the beach for 100euro and the boat trips are good value for 20euro each. The Hotel is about 250 metres from Gouvia beach.

Hotel from a comedy film, had to ask to change room as given room like a cupboard with 'bathroom' that you could do everything ie. wash, shave all while sitting on toilet
meals disgusting, no choices if you dont like whats given, TOUGH!! we ate out every night. Only one waiter showed any signs of pleasantness! Manager and rest of staff quite grumpy. You get what you pay for they say, but we didnt even get that!!
Would not recommend!!

We were disappointed at first about the conditions at the hotel, meaning the shower room was extremelly small, the bedsheets were quite dirty, and the towels weren't chaged ervery day, but in the end it was the best vacation possible. The staff was EXTREMELLY friendly, they fullfilled every wish the tourists had, and they enjoyed pleasing their guests.

The Hotel Gouvia is very basic....
6 / 10
Jul 2008, Ms M R Hendry

The Hotel Gouvia is very basic. Rooms are small and the shower room even smaller. We stayed on a half board basis but just accommodation would be better. The breakfast was very poor and the dinner in the evening slightly better. There are plenty of restaurants locally for eating out. We paid extra for the air conditioning which did work but very noisy. When we arrived the pool was spotless but during the week we were there it had not been cleaned and this was a bit concerning.

On the plus side it is very close to the beach and the staff were pleasant. Our rooms were cleaned every day.

Wid enjoy Gouvia but would not go this hotel again.

The worst 3 star hotel we have ever...

The worst 3 star hotel we have ever been in. Hotel is ready for renovation, bathroom facilities are not functioning, ceiling is leaking. Hotel manager (hotel owner) is very unprofessional, unpolite and not interested in his guests at all. After we had problem at the hotel parking he showed no interest in helping us. That is the only hotel where manager sits at the reception desk without his shirt on, never saying good morning or anything similar.

You get what you pay for and this...

You get what you pay for and this bargain holiday meant that the Gouvia Hotel was clean and basic. Once we'd changed rooms after the first night (we were originally next to a building site) we had a nice room on the second floor which overlooked the 'main' road and had lots of atmosphere. The room was cleaned daily and everything was clean and comfortable.
The half board side of things was fine but not fantastic. The evening meal was served as quickly as possible and no information was given as to what the meal was etc. As two vegetarians, we had to explain this pretty quickly before we got given the 'dish of the day' which was always meat or fish. However, once they understood we didn't eat meat, we generally got to pick our meal from the menu (a perk no-one else had). The quality of the food wasn't the best but it was edible, although I can recommend the margerita pizza.
The staff were mostly friendly but the man on reception was very gruff. Most spoke hardly any English which was sometimes tricky.
The hotel is well placed, near to the beach, shops, bus stop etc. It has its own pool - we didn't use it but it seemed popular enough.
I would stay in the hotel again but I wouldn't go half board - there are plenty of other places to eat at nearby to the hotel.
I recommend you go on some of the trips the rep organises as Gouvia is pretty small and you can 'do it' in a day.

The best I can say about this hotel...
4 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr Paul Senior

The best I can say about this hotel is that is clean. It is in the centre of Gouvia amongst the shops, bars and restaurants.
Our room was cleaned daily (apart from Sundays), it was on the 2nd (top) floor and there was no lift. The bathroom had a very small shower cubicle where the shower curtain touched you as you tried to shower! (take your own hair dryer girls).
The breakfast was the same each day; bread, cheese, ham, jam, butter, orange juice, tea and coffee. The evening meal was between 6pm and 8pm and was a set meal; basic with chips and rice served most days, the desserts were usually fruit, an apple, pear or peach. Most of the waiters are polite and helpful. As the hotel's restaurant was open to the public the meals stopped being served after 8pm as the tables were needed for other people. If we had known in advance we would not have eaten there at all.
The reception is staffed by someone with little English and an even smaller smile. Local buses to Corfu town can be a nightmare with loads of people standing up although the staff on the buses are friendly. The no 7 to Dasia is always on time and again have nice helpful staff.
The Mona Lisa Bar and Whispers Bar are friendly and reasonably priced.
