A Great Holiday Revisited
We were at the Makumba Summer Gardens back in June for 1 week with my 14yr old daughter (see previous review) and liked the place so much that we went back for 2 weeks from 4th Sept. School holidays over, the place is quietening down but the weather was sensational. This time we booked direct with the hotel which was so easy and we didnt have to pay until we got out there. We paid £25 each way for a taxi (booked on the internet) so there was no sitting on a coach waiting for everybody to get there bags and then going round the houses before you get to your hotel. Althought the taxi was great we were worried whether they would be there and what the state of the car/driver would be. The hotel would have arranged this for us for the same price. Service, like last time, was outstanding and the room was clean and tidy with daily maid service and fresh towels every day. If you want anything just ask at reception and they sort it straight away - more coat hangers, borrow (not hire) a hair dryer. It was amazing how many people remembered us from last time and we felt at home from day 1. It was strange not having to get accustomed to a place as we already knew the people and places. We took 50 lire and the rest in £20 notes. You can even pay in sterling in most of the restaurants/tour places and they give you a better rate than the hotel. Paying by credit card gave us an even better rate and we used a card that didnt charge a fee so it was great value. We were getting 2.70 Lire to the £. A large beer is 4.5, English Breakfast 8 (bacon better than at home), Main course 15 - 25. Again everywhere we ate the food was superb but what sets the places apart is the way they look after you once they get you inside. New Season and Golden Spoon were fantastic. The reason I think these two stand out is that they have more staff so they have the time to look after you. It was my wifes birthday when we were out there and New Season did her proud - cake, wine, fruit, liqueuers, sparklers THE WORKS. In May we spent our time round the pool but all the sunbeds were still out from peak season and although there werent a lot of people it still felt a bit crowded so we decided to try the beach. Its a horseshoe shaped bay. All the sunbeds are free because they are linked to the restaurants so you cant take your own food and drink but you dont have to buy drinks if you dont want to and you can go to other restaurants for your lunch - try the seafood salad at Seashells its delicious. Theres no pressure on you to buy anything but itf you do then you have your own beach waiter to fetch and carry. We got a couple of sunbeds right by the water, again at the New Season restaurant, and when we left on the 1st day they asked if we wanted the same again the next day so they reserved it for us everyday. I dont like being crowded but although the beds are close you dont fell hemmed in and there was a lovely breeze on on beach that was missing from the pool. The sea is very clean and slopes nicely so plenty of shallow for non-confident swimmers. All in all a great relaxing holiday with not one single problem/issue and we WILL be going back to Bitez, Makumba & New Season.
makumba all the way!
just got back last week! after a 14 hour delay coming out and then being put in the wrong hotel, we hadnt started on a good note! But the staff made our holiday for us, they all make an effort to talk to you. Ali was so funny, someone you must get to know! i agree with what someone else said about the raffle being a scam, DONT buy a ticket save your money for something else! we went on some amazing trips went to a turkish bath, it was an amzing experience, went to turgetreis market, worth a look especially if you like designer clothes (they are fake though) and went on a boat trip for the day! we booked all our trips through ioneon (i think)! we tryed several restaurants in bitez but we found the best one was 'The golden spoon' the staff were so friendly, billy, charlie and paddy were the best! they give you a free bottle of wine, garlic bread, coffee and a big plate of fruit on the house! we'll deffinetly be going back there, the hotel was so clean. if you dont like busy places (like us) then pool 2 is the best to use its vertually like having your own pool most of the time even in peak season! thanks summer garden for a fab holiday!
Friendly staff, Clean accomodation, we will be back.
We have just got back from a two week stay with our 16 month old son Jake. The Appartments were cleaned daily and basic but very pleasant. Minor Gripes would be the taps in the bathroom were not clean and the balconies were small, but do not let this put you off. The staff were brilliant and made a real fuss of Jake as did all the locals. After two weeks in this resort, he is noticably more confident and less shy. The restaurant is as good as any in the resort which are all genuinely good, with prices keen, quality good and portions generous at the hotel. The shop is clean and competitively priced. Could do with a proper paddling pool for toddlers, but as the shallow and virtually waveless beach is only 1 minute walk away this is not really a problem. Over the hotel and resort are great for young families. We do not usually go back to the same resort twice, but may very well make and exception this time.
best holiday we have had
we have just got back from makumba this morning and couldnt wait to tell you about what a fantastic time we had!!! jimmy, johnny, ali and gang are the best plain and simple!!! they all work so so hard with long shifts but always cheery and friendly. i dont know how they do it. the rooms were nice and clean. the turkish night is a must great value for money, the restarant is the best food ive tasted on holiday. it was a real family vibe here and we made some great friends. we will definatley be coming back to the summer garden apts next year. thanks for making our holiday so special.
Staff Make it Special
The reputation of the staff at the Makumba making eveyone's holiday special is well deserved. Every member of staff from Reception, Administration, Bar, Restaurant, Entertainment and cleaners are friendly, helpful, efficient, can't thank them enough for all their kindness. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, nothing flash but very good basic and comfortable. The gardens are gorgeous, imagine having orange trees hanging over your balcony. The two pools are nice and the sunbeds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on! Food in the snack bar and restaurant was excellent. Just had a great time staying here, and the Turkish night good value and fun. Bitez is a nice compromise between busy Bodrum and clubbing Gumbet. Both places are worth visiting, and easy to get to by Dolmus. Bodrum is lovely and the castle is the prettiest I have ever seen. Bitez is for chilling out, lazing around and having a problem where to eat tonite sort of place. My husband was disappointed because the windsurfing was not good the week we were there, but cant blame the resort for that.
Makumba, Makumba, Makumba!!
Well, what can I say. My first real holiday abroad and expectations not only exceeded but blown away. The Makumba Summer Garden hotel is fantastic. Rooms basic but pleasant. Restaurant serves lovely food – although if you don’t like chips – make sure you ask them not to serve them as everything seems to come with them – that’s Bodrum for you though! If you like Lamb and spicy dishes you must try number 76 on the menu with extra chilli – it’s amazing! The pool side is fantastic, I went with a girlie mate and we had a great time. Very coupley though, so great place to take someone you love! Good for families too, have a great children’s club (so I’ve heard, being 25 I’ve not sampled it! – maybe next year!) and a cool little pool with a water flume – the children love it! Variety of nationalities (that’s the norm I guess) ranging from mostly British, though to Danish, Swedish, German etc. Moving on to the pool side bar and the staff – what can I say – they are lovely people (especially Jimmy and Emine!) with big hearts and well the most amazing staying power – I can’t say I could work 24/7 on only 3 hours sleep per night – I’d be exhausted! Don’t take any notice of any bad reviews of this hotel as they are worthless – experience the place for yourself – you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you have a Turkish bath, spend loads in the Gold shops and take a day out on either the millionaires cruise (if you have children) or exclusive gullet for that adult only experience. You won’t be disappointed. Nightlife, moderate to low in Bitez, but then if you want a big night out a taxi ride to Bodrum will only set you back 16 million new Turkish liras. Fare rises after midnight so expect to pay around 25 million which equates to about £10 british pounds. Definitely, definitely must go on the marine catamaran! It is amazing – if you like the sound of dancing the nightaway with fish swimming beneath you – something that has to be experienced! Food amazing – not once did I have a bad meal! Loved it so much taking my parents next June for two weeks – one week is JUST NOT ENOUGH! Happy holidays!
great holiday
The Makumba appts offer a great base for a relaxing holiday, the accomadation is small and basic, but clean and tidy. the staff are so friendly and helpfull. bitez offers no real nightlife, so not many teenagers around. loads of restraurants, great food. the Makumba and Red Dragon restraurants we found exceptionally good value.
We would visit again
We visited Makumba apartments for May '05 Half Term. We arrived about 5am and were welcomed and escorted to our rooms by the wonderful, charming, friendly staff who don't seem to get much sleep. The apartment initially seemed to be quite small but with the balcony and eating space outside it was fine. Kitchen facilities are very basic; two hotplates and a kettle. Eating out was no problem, reasonably priced and good food almost everywhere: The Summer Garden Restuarant and Bar food was priced as the rest of the resort. The Staff organise a 'Turkish Night' on Fridays, the food was (as always) very good, the entertainment is fun and be prepared to join in. There are two pools on the site, Pool 2 is a small rectangle, 1.6m all through; Pool 1, the larger, is the family pool. There is a slide and a small area for young children, the biggest part is between 1.5m - 2m deep. Not very relaxing, if you have non swimmers. Jimmy definately needs a mention, as he is 'the best', very friendly and good fun.
loved the people especially johnny, bartuhan & jimmy
I came during august and I loved the people so much especially Johnny, Batuhan & Jimmy they made my holiday the best ive ever had and unforgetable. The apartments are lovely and spacious. the pools are great and there was always loads of sunbeds to spare. We are defenatly goin to come back to makumba bitez because its such a beautifull place. Thankyou so much. xxxxxx
Loved the Makumba Summer Garden can't wait to go back
Basic accomodation spotlessly clean, maid service everyday. Fairly large pool with plenty of sun beds. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, particulary the pool bar staff Jimmy & Johnny who are totally mad but always up for a laugh. 2 minutes walk from the beach and restaurants/bars. Try the Blue Moon, Red Dragon and at Ali's on the sea front ask for Artour he will look after you. All provide excellent food at good prices.
