Aug 2006, Miss N Almond

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at the Irida. As already mentioned in previous guests' comments, the apartments were very basic but were clean. The main problem was that the upstairs was just too hot to sleep in, even with a fan.
I would suggest to all ladies, take a portable mirror so you can put on your make-up outside! The outside garden areas were well maintained and looked pretty and the pool area was clean and had plenty of sun beds.
You didn't have to put your towel out at 6am! The staff were friendly and would chat to you if you made an effort to get to know them. They welcomed you to the free pasta evening, although the drinks at the bar were rather expensive. Within easy walking distance to Nana beach, which is lovely and Stalis town.
Romantic Corner was our favourite restaurant. Remember you get what you pay for and after all, who wants to spend time sitting in a room anyway!

We have just returned from our 2 week...

Aug 2006, Miss K Thomas

We have just returned from our 2 week holiday in Stalis, Crete. Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Irida Apartments, we had a fantastic time.
The apartments are very basic and they are not the best for cooking in as we found that we only had one hob to cook on and only one saucepan, but we never let that ruin our holiday like other people have mentioned.
We were told by our Holiday Rep when we went to the meeting on our first day not to put their towels down on the floor and to use our own, if we didn't then we would have to replace them, we were told that there are many shops which sell everything for 1.50 euros only, so if we did use theirs we would only have to pay 1.50 euros, so that wasn't a problem, we just used our own.
Makis (the owner), Haris (Harry) and Cleo are all lovely people they made us feel very welcome (at no point were they rude or used any bad language toward us as somebody else has mentioned) and made every effort to make sure we had the best time. Cleo does not speak a lot of English but then we never spoke a lot of Greek either apart from a few words we had learned whilst there.
I was really worried about the reviews I had read about the Irida, people always trying to put you off going and say how bad it is but at the end of the day we were very happy with our room and had the best time ever there.
They are such lovely people and we will be going back there at some point.
P.S. Like I was told you can get people staying in top class London Hotels and they will still find things to moan about!!!!

Jul 2006, Miss K I Ramsay

One is too high a rating for this accommodation. I have never in my life been to such a repugnant place of residence. In two weeks the maids were only seen twice, and neither time was in the first week.
The linen was left unchanged for an unsavoury amount of time and the staff were all rude and unfriendly because we were some of the youngest there. The bathroom (if one were to go in so far as to call it that, and I wouldn't) was definitely the worst point. There was no shower curtain so water sprayed all over the room, on top of this the drain didn't work so water collected over two weeks.
We were expected to use our home brought towels as a bathmat as they had not provided any and warned us that if we used theirs we would be charged with the cleaning or replacement bill.
Although we were self catering there was effectively no utensils and only the hob worked. The pots had also not been cleaned properly from the previous guests. This made it incredibly hard to self cater and thus we were forced to eat out every night.
Irida would absolutely never regain our custom.

Jul 2006, Mrs M Barker

Having just returned home from my third stay at the Irida Apartments I would like to say I have enjoyed my holidays there every time. Makis has made some wonderful improvements to the complex. The public area, walkways and pool sides have now been completely tiled; there are plenty of sun beds and even a sheltered area for those who wish to relax out of the glaring sun. The garden area is also very well kept.
The apartments are basic but you have what you need and the family are only too happy to assist in providing anything extra you may need.
Cleo is a darling as nothing is too much trouble for her in making you feel welcome. Her English is basic, but then how many of the visitors to the complex try to learn Greek. Harris and Makis both worked hard to help you enjoy your stay.
We have always been made welcome here and will no doubt be returning in the future.

May 2006, Miss Jemma Lynas

I read this page two weeks ago before going to Crete and to be honest I was dreading my holiday. But you know what? I had the best time ever. Yes the apartment was not immaculate but I dint book a five star hotel therefore I didn’t expect five star accommodation. Makis was lovely Cleo was ok but we thought she could’ve tried a bit harder to smile.
The bar man Harris was very sweet and his English was very good. We were due to leave at 5am Saturday morning but only had our room until 12 noon Friday yet when we arrived back from the beach at 6pm they let us use the room to get changed.
All in all I enjoyed my stay. And next time I go back if I take my children along I shall stay there again. Jemma Lynas Aged 24 Northampton.

Dec 2005, Miss J Grannon

We had a fantastic holiday at the Irida apts. However we were about the only guests there and I believe that we had one of the best apts there (no 1) nearest the pool. The owner couldn't have been nicer and made us feel very welcome.
We holidayed with our 2 small children whilst I was 5 months pregnant, and although the apt was basic it was fine for what we wanted it for,

Typical basic Greek apartments, two...

Jul 2005, J Vince

Typical basic Greek apartments, two beds downstairs and two upstairs. The showroom/toilet area was a wet room hence having no shower curtain but as our apartment was cleaned at least twice a week this wasn’t a problem. We were also given clean towels every time the apartment was cleaned.
The hotel next door did have very noisy guests but during the second week families were staying there so the noise died down quite a lot.
There was a mixture of people staying at the Irida whilst we were there, both single groups and families and there wasn’t any problems between the two whilst we were there.
The pool made a nice change from the beach and the pool bar was not expensive. The barman is called Costa’s and his English is better than some of the English people staying at the apartments! The lady who helps run the place is called Cleo and admittedly her English is limited but not once did she swear at us and was most helpful. The owner Marcus (or Marius) lives on site and again was very helpful.
Their apartments are not air conditioned but electric fans are available from the owner. The kitchen appliances could have been better but we weren’t on holiday to cook. T
here is a shortcut to the beach (just follow the signs) and we would recommend the “Roma” restaurant especially the “calsons” (like folded over pizza!) Sunbeds and Parasols in Stalis are quite cheap at 3Euros for two all day.
Having read the previous comments I can only assume that they were there at different weeks to us and may have come across the 4 young men who decided to let off a fire extinguisher in the apartment, enough to make any owner shout! We enjoyed our stay at the Irida.

Jul 2005, L Shaw

First of all if you have booked a holiday at the Irida apartments change your accommodation now!
The rooms are dirty with concrete slabs with mattresses on for beds the walls are falling apart and are full of dirty marks, when we got to the apartments there was a pair of dirty knickers on the bathroom floor!!! We had no air-con, no hot water and the rooms were not cleaned once in the week we were there! the shower was a joke, no shower curtain or holder so every time you had a shower everything got soaked so the bathroom floor was black!! The pool and surrounding area was nice although not enough sunbeds.
The pool bar was expensive and it was a job in itself getting the women to understand she didn’t speak a word of English we would order orange juice and get a toastie and she had a bad temper! I would not advise families to go as it is basically an overspill for Malia and most people there are big groups of girls/boys and we weren’t getting in till about 6am every night and everyone was up still drunk getting in the pool!!
I would not return to theses apartments I think they are a dump and the owner and his wife have the wrong attitude towards guests!
