Myself and my girlfriend spent a few days in Venice recently, staying at the Delfino Hotel. From the description that we were given, we were under the impression that we were staying opposite the train station in Mestre, Venice. This was not the case!! The truth of the... more

Good value
from keenvisitor
We stayed here for two nights, 4-6 Jan2007, before our children returned to Canada. The main reasons for our choice were that they had a very early departure time and, as we had 3 rooms, the price. The accommodation was not luxurious but was clean and tidy. The rooms were a decent size and the windows opened. The bathroom had a drain in the floor and a curtain round the shower (not uncommon in Europe) but worked quite well. The front desk staff were very polite and friendly, and spoke several languages. The breakfast was adequate. You could not get a more convenient location. There was a supermarket in the same building and the no4 bus to Piazzale Roma goes from right outside. If you are looking for a buget hotel then this is the place. We have stayed in 2 other hotels in Mestre and this was better, and cheaper. Of course it is better to stay on the island but sometimes, say if you have an early flight or a train to catch, then you have to be practical. After all the Grand Canal is only a 10 minute bus ride away.
Mediocre in every way
from Bear73
The Delfino is on one of the main streets in Mestre and although it's not on one of the islands, it is within very easy reach. The bus for Venice leaves from across the road and takes about 10 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma (Venice Bus Station) And for €1 for a ticket, it's a bargain. The hotel itself is medicore, the rooms are big, although characterless, the beds were comfortable, but you only get a wafer thin pillow. The airconditioning wasn't working at all when we were there, I enquired about this at reception and was told that they would turn it on later - I later overheard a conversation in Italian between the gentleman on reception and one of his colleagues saying that the aircon was still not fixed and it was going to be another few days before it was. Apart from these small issues the hotel was tolerable, I wouldn't be rushing back to it though !
Unpleaseant

Very small rooms and bathroom. The A/C is a joke. No room for a second luggage. The shower is a hole in the floor.
Good location,boring Decor

My wife & I stayed at the delfino hotel june 2005.There was no question about its great location given that the bus stop for a 10 minute bus ride to venice was just opposite the hotel and the shops and a good variety of resturants were all a walking distance away. The downside to the hotel is its boring and dull decor. Our first impression on entering our double room was certainly nothing to write home about-the soft furnishing was in an uninviting ,unromantic army green colour.I'm glad I wasnt there for my honeymoon. The ensuite facility had no bath tub and the shower flooded easily allowing water to flow freely into the main room soaking the carpet well into the room. The courteous staff however was a plus. It's the ideal place for a couple on a budget who want to stay away from but at an accessible place to the madening crowd of venice.Mestre also has the advantage of being less tourist infested like venice is.I believe there are also better bargains in mestre. As far staying in delfino again. It is very unlikely as the chances of visting Venice again is near zero.We werent as impressed as to be lured for a come back.Moreso as you can see all there is to venice in a long weekend .
Great location, price and service.

The hotel is very well located. In the front of the hotel is the bus stop to venice and to mestre train station. There is a big supermarket in the same block. The rooms was very big but dark, i think. Clean and nice. The shower is not separated from the rest of the bath, i found it very disappointing. The stuff was friendly, just correct. Breakfast just ok too.
A very nice hotel

We arrived by taxi from the local station and were made most welcome, The three gentlemen who tended the reception desk spoke excellent English. They have two lifts and we had a room on the 6th floor; the room was very clean and spacious with a very large double bed [approx 8 feet wide, the mattress was so comfitable I looked up the name of the manufacturer for when our own bed needs a replacement. The bathroom was spotless and re-stocked with soap shampoo/Showergel daily. The maid service was efficent and they never interupted us once although they always wished us good morning. The Evening meals were excellent. The breakfast was very good comprising breads, pastries, jams, museli, cornflakes, yoghurt, hot + cold drinks. I did feel that the hot water provided from a machine was not hot enough to make tea but this was not considered important enough to mention especially as we had our travell kettle in our room. We did have a TV in our room but all the stations where foreign language;I did watch one or two English football matches and a die hard movie. The Hotel is situated next to a supermarket and opposite a No 4 bus stop that takes you straight to Roma Place Bus station Venice for 1.5 euro. When you get to Roma Place purchase an all day waterbus ticket for bus No 42 this will take you to st Marks Place + the Doges Palace which are the highlights of Venice. Changing Travellers cheques can be done at the BNL Bank 300 metres up on the same road as the Hotel. We very much enjoyed our visit to the Delphino.
Decent Breakfast but Unfriendly Staff and Dark & Dreary Rooms
from A TripAdvisor Member
From the outside the Hotel Delfino looks a lot better than it does inside. With the exception of the decent breakfast which is included, there is absolutely no reason to return. The rooms were dark, dreary and had absolutely no charm. The shower (if it can be called that) did not have a separation from the rest of the bathroom floor the only divider was a round shower curtain that measured about 3 feet around -- an experience. The staff was unfriendly & unhelpful. Among many experiences with the staff, we asked if our friends had check in and was assured that they were in their rooms only to find out later on that their flight had been delayed and they did not check in until much later that evening, apparently they were simply trying to get rid of us - this is how it was the entire stay. All in all - not nearly one of the better hotels in the area. Would not recommend it at all.
Not so great...wouldn't stay again
from A TripAdvisor Member
Our experience was not quite as pleasant of an experience as the other reviewers seem to have had. We stayed at the Delfino for 2 nights and by the time we left we had been in 3 different rooms. We had requested a non-smoking room and when we arrived our room smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. I requested another room and they said that all of their rooms are non smoking but they can't help it if people smoke in them anyway. They said there were no more King rooms available and that air freshener would just have to do. Then one of the other employees managed to find us another room. The shower in the bathroom was not seperate. What I mean by that is that the entire bathroom and shower is one room and there is only a shower curtain blocking off a section of the bathroom floor...that is the shower. The drain is apparently not sufficient to drain the amount of water put out by the shower because when I got out of the shower the water had not only flooded the bathroom floor but the water, soap and suds had run out into the main hotel room and completely soaked at least a quarter of our hotel room. Therefore, we were given a third room. The entire hotel (with the exception of the head reception area) had more of a "institution" type of feel to it more than the "homey" feel that I look for in a hotel. All that being said, the majority of the staff were wonderful (except for one person at the front desk) and always did whatever they could to assist us. The hotel also has a very central location and was extremely convenient to everthing. The bus stop to get to Venice was literally across the street. So, there were both pros and cons and I suppose it just depends on what your priorities are when considering a hotel.
Excellent Location and Hotel, Good Value for Money
from happy_fairy
The Delfino Hotel in Mestre, Venice, is 10 minutes walk from Mestre Train Station, providing easy, fast and cheap access to Venice Santa Lucia Station (5 minutes train ride for 1 Euro each way). Train run often and all trains leaving Venice SL stop at Mestre (a bonus to get back from Venice after long days of sightseeing!). The hotel is located next to a small in-town supermarket, excellent for quick food shopping. Our room was quiet, clean and offered both TV and fridge. The buffet breakfast offered cereals, bread, coffee, fruit juices, danish pastries, yoghurt etc. The parking facility is very small though but it is free. Overall, good value for money in Mestre or Venice. Would recommend.
Beautiful - Wonderful - Fantastic!

This hotel was wonderful! Extremely big rooms, very kind and helpful front desk clerks, great location (only a 10 minute walk to the bus station), quiet, just an all around great hotel! I would reccommend this hotel very much. I hope your stay will be as rememberable to you as it was for me.

An excellent inexpensive hotel in Mestre. A bus stopped right outside the door and for 1 Euro took you into Venice. The breakfast was really good, lovely choice of food, comfortable rooms and very pleasant and helpful staff. We flew with Ryanair and for less than 10... more
