We went to the island of zante with an open mind as the reports of the resort were mixed, we were on an all inclusive rate which was good as we found most of the resort was shut as it was the last week of their season. The hotel "group" which turned out to be just the captain's hotel, as the sister hotels were shut, (which is not what we were led to believe), was not very good, the rooms were ok, the food was edible but very repetative with not having any alternative eating places to go.The town of argassi i found was scruffy with dogs and cats roaming around everywhere, nothing to do at all if you had any children then it would have been horrendous, the bus service advertised was none existent, we walked to the main zante town 3 times and never was passed by or saw a bus.
I would not recommend this resort for a family holiday at or near the end of the season, it may be different mid to high season but i doubt it.

I read the reviews of this hotel ‘The Captains Hotel - AFTER booking it and was quite worried that I had done the wrong thing that I nearly cancelled. It was like everyone was saying, broken tiles, slippery underfoot, food not named so you didn’t know what you were eating, lots – practically all Polish people, the HILL, well don’t think its small, its hard-going, especially in hot weather, even going up the steps and through the Commodore was hard, although on the whole I think easier. We went on a few trips (Island Tour and Greek Night - both were good) and always had to meet, and be dropped off at the Magic Mushroom (didn’t go in but it sounded good) thereby having to walk up to the hotel and up the hill, which after a day or evening out, you just don’t feel like doing. Likewise although we were dropped off at the Captains Hotel on arriving, when it came to going home we had to get ourselves and our cases down to the Commodore hotel, which wasn’t so easy.
We too had water coming in our room, wasn’t sure whether it was from the shower as the shower tray is so shallow that the drain can’t take the water away quickly enough OR the fact that we’d had thunderstorms in the night and the water was coming in through the top of the door, couldn’t see exactly where from but it obviously did it all the time as all the wood around the door was warped from being wet.
The beds weren’t that comfy, but okay, as was the room, basic but clean.
The free bus to St Nicholas beach wasn’t what I was hoping for as it left at 10.30 in the morning and didn’t bring you back until 5.30 so no choice of how long you stayed.
We were unlucky in being held up leaving Gatwick, sat for 2 hours on the plane before leaving, therefore arrived late at the hotel, although we were All Inclusive when we arrived at 5pm there was no food to be had anywhere! We hadn’t eaten lunch so were quite put out, had to buy some crisps and stuff to keep up going until dinner.
The locally produced drinks were okay but all the spirits were only 30% proof, although the bar staff did give you a good measure. Likewise the mixers – Coke, Sprite etc were always flat, so not an enjoyable drink. The wine wasn’t of good quality either.
The staff were all nice, Andreas is sweet, and Dina was lovely, also the staff in the sister hotels.
There were loose railings around, but not loose enough to give way, but could do with fixing.
We walked down into Argassi one evening after eating our dinner, there was a man touting for business in his restaurant – The PALMYRA, remember that name, its on the left hand side just before you get to the bottom of the road – he was so rude, he said about going in to eat dinner but when I said we had just eaten he said – ‘so you have one pair of shoes, it doesn’t mean you can’t have another – open your mind’ all in a threatening manner and then he walked off in a huff!
All in all we enjoyed the holiday but compared to other holidays not so much. If I could have chosen where to be it would have been somewhere in the main street of Argassi, self catering so I could experience the ambience of the Taverna’s. The supermarkets were fine for self catering, had everything you could possibly need.
If you have booked to go, have a lovely time, if you haven’t – think again!
- Advice: The beach isn't at all nice. The buses we were told were unreliable.

We found the hotel very average. The rooms were simple but the cleaners always kept them clean, the pool area was fine. However we found the food very basic, it was ok for something at lunch time but didnt really jazz the food up in the evening. The fact that there were no signs on the food put us off as some things did not look appertising.
The worse thing about the hotel was the enterainment, although the Captains has 2 sister hotels, there was only one that had evening entertainment and even that was minimal if there was a show on. We found ourselves going down to the bars every evening (that was only a short walk down the hill).
I feel that the hotel would be ok to go self catering as there were plently of bar/cafes restuarants nearby.

Only give this holiday a 1 because the hotel itself is still standing and there is no 0!!!!! Then agian its ok if you can survive on chips and ice cream 4 your entire stay !!! No signs on the food so you have no idea what your eating and even if they did the food doesnt look atall apealing !! The staff are perfect if you like short conversations and alot of nodding as they dont understand you. Very few female staff think i counted 1 and the manager woman so if your looking to be cheesey chatted up and flirted on off the sleezy men there then again this hotel is for you !!! Oh and the fact its on top of probably the biggest hill in argassi youv got no chance !!! All inclusive was just a JOKE aswell !!

Have just returned from a weeks stay at the Captains Hotel, the room we were allocated was at the back of the hotel near the waste bins which attracted wasps and other insects and the smell that came from the bins you could not decribe.
The room itself was not to living standard, ie the shower when we used the shower the water was leaking through to the bedroom, the bathroom window was sealed and very damp at all times.
The balcony railings were unsafe as part of it was coning away from the wall.
The noise of bikes and cars at all hours was keeping us a wake through the night.
On our 4th night in the early hours an electric cable which was live was blown down and was flapping against a palm tree which was very near the hotel and a private house, no health and safety was in place none of the residances that were staying in the hotel were notifield of the occurrance.

HOLIDAY FROM HELL! Arrived at the hotel at 4pm to a disgusting room so we were moved 3 times within 24 hours!!, the rooms were damp and smelly with exposed wires, no smoke alarms, 3 days into our holiday our son was admitted into hospital with food poisoning, food only really caters for eastern europeans and stayed the same all fortnight, cats and dogs roamed freely around the resaturant, we had eat out every day even though we were half board costing 60-70 euros per day. pools were filthy dirty with tiles missing altogether a total disappointment!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Just back from Captain's Hotel and did not want to leave. The welcome we received on landing from Christoff was first class - he even had the kitchen staff save food for us as we arrived after dinner service had finished. The hotel was clean and the staff so helpful. We did not have any problems but all the staff were very friendly and certainly spoke good English and we attempted some Greek. The rooms were so clean and spacious and the view from our balcony spectacular - the sea view premium is worth every penny. The all inclusive was also brilliant value. We found the meals had lots of variety and probabaly ate far too much.
Peaceful location at the top of a hill meant no club noise so great for families or fortysomethings like us.
Argassi was great with usual tourist shops and taxi trips out were really cheap. Had a great day out at Zante town and also Kalamaki beach.
We would definitely go back there without hesitation.

we booked this all inclusive holiday because we thought what a great price....
we thought the money we saved on the holiday could be spent on boat trips and excursions and keeping the little one happy, what a mistake we made, don't get me wrong, the hotel and pool were spotlessly clean.and the maids were always cleaning and changing bedding etc.the first thing to do if you are planning on staying in this resort is to learn polish,95% of people at the complex were poles.which is who they catered for.slop slop and more slop.this was the menu that did not change.for the first three days of holiday we ate this rubbish.and finally complained, only to be told we could eat at the poolside bar.fantastic if you want burgers for two weeks.and not so good after 5pm because it closed.so for 11 nights out of the 14 we had to eat out at a huge expense.oh and when does all inclusive not meen all inclusive, try getting a drink for your wife and daughter.not a chance, you have to go individually, what a joke.staff were trying there best to help, but none of them could speak english.yet spoke polish fluently.and to be honest there is not much to do in argassi.and zante town was covered in graffiti.5 years ago we stayed in kalamaki about 10ks from argassi.and we loved it. so have alook there if you want to go to zante.....................stay there again erm i dont think so.not for english.........

THe Hotel It's Self Was Ok, The Rooms Were Very Clean, Maids In The Rooms Every Morning. The Food Was Very Very Poor, They Cater Mostly For Polish, Very Poor, No Variety In The Food What So Ever. It Say That Kids Get Free Ice Cream But It's Only At Certain Times. The Lift Always Broke Down, The Pools Were Very Good Though And The Snack Bar Was Also Very Very Good. Some Staff Were Friendly And Some Were Ignorant And Rude. THere Was An Ants Nest In Our Room, We Had A Family Of Ten And 4 Rooms. Food Lets The Hotel Down.

My partner and i stayed at Captains commodore hotel, Zante ,May 2010. The complex was clean, food was typically greek and very good and we found the staff + guests to be friendly + courtious. There is no local beach to speak of but there is a free bus service to a lovely beach close by + we were happy with the 3 pools at the complex.
