Just back from two weeks there. Weather was great. Family apartments, mostly irish. Children friendly but not baby friendly as too many steps & noisey.
I think this is a fair judgement.
Pro's:
-Friendly staff
- Nice crowd holiday there.
-Good atmosphere, especially in bar.
- Lovely grounds, pretty flowers & kept well. Fenced in, so safe for children to play. Children aged 5 - 14 approx played chasing together there every evening & seemed to be enjoying themselves.
- Nice pool, especially childrens area.
- Food in bar nice although menu limited. You could bring your meal to your terrace which was very handy with sleeping children.
- Had a washing machine & microwave which was handy.
Con's:
- Apartments are run down, need new furniture, also bathroom/ kitchens should be replaced.
- Very loud road noise, need double glazed windows badly. Woke me & baby up early every morning.
- Cleaners came infrequent & did very little. In & out in minutes. I was constantly empying my own bins & bringing rubbish to reception.
-Not buggy friendly, loads of steps, even steps into my ground floor apartment! No lift.
- Terrace wall very low & dangerous for young children.
- No air con.
- Sun beds hard with no cushions even available to rent. Not enough sunbeds & no umbrellas around the pool.
- Bar & restaurant very small & no entertainment ever.
- About 12 minutes walk from Alvor & beach, uphill on way back, this walk got annoying, taxis are cheap but it does add up after a while. I personally would have preferred to be closer.
Verdict: i wouldn't go back unless my children were older & the aprtments had been done up.

My partner and myself have just returned from a weeks holiday in the Vilamor Apartments.
We had a wonderful relaxing time there. The staff were very friendly. A lovely little bar/restaurant in the complex. Staff and the food very excellent.
Plenty of sun lounger but no mats for them. A bit hard on the back. The weather was fab.
It was the first time that we had a washing machine in an apartment. No dirty clothes going home. Apartments clean and well equipped. Pity that there wasn't more channels on tv.
Alvor is a beautiful resort. If you want a quiet break, nice people, plenty of sunshine, good food, plenty of fish its the place to go.

Second visit, first in 2005. Will definitely make it back in 2007.
Friendly staff and good food make it a great stay. Apartment well kept and clean gardens, pool and patio areas, spotless and well maintained on a daily basis.
About 15 mins walking distance from Alvor, taxis readily available and can be ordered from reception.
Good assortment of pubs and restaurants in Alvor village to suit everyone’s taste.
Plenty of tours available to neighbouring villages and towns.
