Comments:  MY WIFE AND FRIENDS HAD A TWO WEEK CRUISE ON OCEAN VILLAGE FROM 7TH AUG TO 21 AUG.THE CRUISE WAS GOOD,CABINS GREAT ENTERTAINMENT OK FOOD TERRIFIC(JAMES MARTIN DINING I WOULD RECOMMEND).THE PROBLEM WAS THE FLIGHTS,WE WERE SUPPOSED TO FLY WITH THOMAS COOK BUT OUTGOING THEY TRANSFERRED US TO GLOBESPAN WHICH WAS NOT BIG ENOUGH TO FLY DIRECT.WE STOPPED AT MUNICH FOR JUST OVER AN HOUR ON THE PLANE SITTING ON RUNWAY WHILE RE-FUELLING.NO IN FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT COLD FOOD AND DELAYED,A NIGHTMARE.AND AT THE END OF CRUISE GUESS WHAT NO PLANE THIS TIME.PUT OFF SHIP AT 9PM TO GO TO AIRPORT TO COLLECT BAGS THEN TO HOTEL.GOT UP AT 5AM TO GO BACK TO AIRPORT AND SURPRISINGLY ANOTHER DELAY.WE FINALLY GOT ON A FLIGHT SERVED A QUICK BREAKFAST THEN CABIN CREW SEEMED TO DIS-APPEAR FOR THE REMAINDER OF FLIGHT.INFERIOR FLIGHTS WHEN WE ALL PAID A FORTUNE.WE WILL NOT BE BOOKING AGAIN AS LONG AS THOMAS COOK ARE THE CARRIERS FOR OCEAN VILLAGE COULD NOT GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN.

Comments:  This was mine and my partners first cruise (i'm 25 and he is 34). We were a little wary as to whether we would enjoy cruising due to the reputation crusing has (i.e not a lot to do, lots of old people, cramped). This cruise blew us away. I can honestly say that we both had never had such an enjoyable holiday.

The ship was at full capacity (1800 people) yet there was always space and never felt too busy. There was about 1 staff member to every 2 people. The staff were the highlight of the holiday. They were always friendly and couldn't go out of their way anymore to make you happy. We like to stay in 4/5* hotels and the room would probably compare to a 3/4* but i was suprised how spacious the cabin was. I would recommend an outside cabin - its very exciting waking up in the morning looking at the window and seeing the port!

The food was AMAZING! I put on a few pounds but theres so much food to enjoy! And some of the best food I have eaten.

I cant say much more except I would highly recommend this holiday! We are looking at another trip on this ship or Ocean Village 2 for next year. Already cant wait!

Comments:  Just got back from Greece travelling with Thomas Cook and Ocean Village. It's the second time we've been and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The trips were excellent value for money and gave us a really wide range of experiences around the islands.
The food was great. We ate mainly in the plantation and were able to enjoy a breakfast and evening meal in the sunshine outside on deck every day. You just have to know which times to eat to avoid the crowds!

The staff were friendly and happy to oblige every whim and the weather was so hot!
Downsides of the cruise were: We took our 22 year old daughter sharing our cabin. They provided 2 single beds and a bunk bed. We all had to sleep squashed together. Our choice I suppose. The entertainment was ok. 2 of the shows - Madonna and the Planet show were repeats of last year which was disappointing. I thought that after a year they would change the show. Finally the drinks were very expensive.

The flight, organised by Thomas Cook was enjoyable. The check in and out process was painless and the flights passed quickly with excellent cabin staff.

We have already booked for next year - Emporers and Expresso. Can't wait. Would recommend to anyone - but Ocean Village - Please stop repeating the entertainment!

Comments:  Good Points: The Ports of call were fantastic. Loved Dubrovnik, Athens, Epheseus and Rhodes. Did organised trips at Athens & Epheseus and think they were well worth doing as the guides were really good and informative.

Bad Points: Entertainment, entertainment, oh and entertainment. Really low end acts - Stars in their Eyes has-beens. Why Ocean Village thinks guests want to see tribute acts I don't know! The company entertainment team - dancers and singers - were really cheesy in my view. Previous reviewers have summed it up in saying they are reminiscent of Butlins. I think this is an area Ocean Village really have to look at because it spoilt the rest of our cruise experience. Queues in the restaurants and lack of tables becomes a pain after a while. Yes informal dining beats having to go at a certain time every night but it seems everyone all wants to eat at once! The food is really good although it tends to be a little on the cold side.

General comments: Great way to see the world and I would advise you to make the most of your days ashore so that after your dinner you are ready to go to bed as the nights can be hard to put up with. The Blue Bar is ok for a quiet drink away from the hammy/camp shows and the staff throughout the ship are very friendly - although there is a wiff of insincerity and towing the company line from some! Overall I think my time on the Ocean Village (Olives & Ouzo/Temples & Tavernas) was good but the price of trips and drinks onboard impact negatively on its value for money. My son had an absolute ball!

Comments:  Ocean Village Cruise Ship 3rd to 10th July 2008

My daughter treated me to my first ever cruise and the two of us have just arrived back from the Olives & Ouzo tour. I have had the time of my life.
I shall never forget it. To say I have enjoyed myself is an understatement, I thought I’d gone to heaven and back, beautiful scenery and places to visit.
Although the donkeys in Santouri proved for us a challenge.
Officers, crew, staff, entertainers, in fact everyone took a part in making my holiday as perfect as possible and a holiday to remember.
.
I can thoroughly recommend Ocean Village cruises to anyone, good value, spacious cabins, food good, entertainment excellent, staff and crew friendly and pleasant,
who could ask for anything more? Can’t wait to save up for the next one.

Mr W Coleman (Revue June) complains about everything and anything. He wouldn’t be happy on any ship. Re his rude remarks re the over 70’s, and for his record!!
I as a74 year old female who is nowhere near dead with a foot in the grave. I enjoy life, play golf at least 3 times a week, a 20 handicap and could give him a run for his money!! There are many like me out there, who don’t complain and grumble enjoying life to the full probably spending their kids inheritance.
Good luck to them

At the end of the day the holiday is what you make it, so get out there and enjoy..

Here’s to my next holiday with Ocean Village Cruises. Cheers!

Comments:  Me my partner, my 2 year old son, my sister, brother in law, father in law and his partner have just returned from a weeks cruise around the mediteranian. We loved it! The food was the best we have ever had away from home. The staff loved my son and made us feel really welcome. We really enjoted the shows there was something different every night. The drinks were not too expensive, The atmosphere around the whole ship was really friendly and happy, the staff cant do enough for you. We all had an inside cabin they are small but managable, The shower and beds are good quality. The only problem we had was that my son was too young to join in with the kids club, so he got a little bored when we were sailing all day. But apart from that we loved it and have booked to go next year.

Comments:  We have just returned from 2 weeks on Ocean Village and loved every minute of it. My wife was a little concerned that we would be the oldest couple on board, being in our early 60's, but was relieved to see lots of people around our age and even older. We had a balcony cabin which was great and it was kept spotless. Ok, the decor was a little "tired" looking but definitely not as bad as other reviews have stated. The only complaint we had was that the fridge wasn't working. We found out that a number of other people had the same problem, but our cabin stewardess brought us a bucket of ice every day so that we could keep bottled water in it in the fridge which worked very well. She was very helpful throughout the 2 weeks and nothing was too much trouble for her. We found all the staff on board excellent, extremely helpful and always had a smile and time for a little chat. The food was plentiful and pretty good most of the time. We ate mainly in the Waterfront, but also went into the Plantation quite often. The meals in the Bistro and La Luna had a lot of seafood which we don't like and there was nothing else on their menu's that we particularly wanted. The entertainment was quite good but the "Planet" show on deck was brilliant. We booked 2 trips which were very good - one to Limmasol and the other to Santorini - although a bit expensive. We made our own way to all the other places we stopped and found them easy enough to either walk to or share a taxi. Last year we went on our first cruise with Emerald Princess and loved it. It was a brand new ship so obviously the decor etc was perfect so you couldn't really compare it with OV, being 20 years old. I have to say though that we preferred the casualness of OV and the staff were much better too. I have seen lots of reviews about OV with people moaning about having to carry trays in the buffet restaurants - well I didn't see anything wrong with that - at least you could get your plates, cups and cutlery in "one go" - on Princess you had to try and juggle things around or make a few trips to get each item!! The embarkation process was so much better on OV, no waiting around once you had "checked in", you went on board straightaway and when leaving the ship it was also very well organised. The Thomsonfly flights were quite good with better leg room than we thought there would be, although the food wasn't that good. Would definitely go on OV again.

Comments:  Having read many reviews from other passengers I went on Ocean Village with an open mind. I loved every minute of it; the ship, the cabin, the staff, the food was fabulous, the entertainment was not worse than P&O or Thomson who I have travelled with recently. I agree that most complaints came from older people who failed to read the brochure and expect Saga Village as opposed to Ocean Village. Please allow Ocean Village to be what it is intended a cruise for younger people who dont want the stuffiness of other cruises. There are more than enough Cruise Lines to cater for the more mature passengers who want to be pampered.

Comments:  my wife and i have been on 5 cruises now and ocean village has the worst deck plan going, our cabin although very nice was next to crews quarters and below kids club and nursery which is open from 6am to 3am wich ment we had no sleep for the whole 2week cruise as the crew work 24/7 so it goes with out saying we will not be using this cruise line again and will be going back to ncl

Comments:  My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Stay and Cruise holiday aboard Ocean Village. We had a week in a 4 star hotel on the island of Crete which was wonderful followed by the Olives and Ouzo 7 night cruise. It was our first cruise but not our last as we were favourably impressed by the whole experience. The ship was huge just as they advertised, a floating hotel with standards high above the average mediterranian hotels we have stayed in. Everything was marvellous the cabins were a really good size with more than enough drawer and wardrobe space, nice size shower room and lovely comfortable beds and pillows. There was a fridge and tea and coffee making tray with my favourite coffee! and biscuits fresh each day. Telephone TV with sky news and films etc. The ship was kept spotlessly clean in all areas and in the restaurants your hands were cleansed with gel every visit. Food was first class with lots of variety and it was nice to get soft drinks and tea and coffee with meals, something you dont get usually in hotels abroad. The entertainment was good on the whole and the entertainers worked hard and were happy and friendly and some of them very talented. The only thing on the down side was the price of the excursions. You could do your own thing in ports of call which I would recommend. If you got together with another couple you could share a taxi which would be a fraction of the cost of the organised trips. If you like a guide and prefer going in a group you pay highly for the privilege. Everything else was spot on even the drinks on board were same as pub prices in the UK. Oh yes talking of drinks the only other little moan was that you couldnt get a bottle of wine or spirit when in port and take it back to your cabin to put in the fridge for a late night tipple because the rule was any alcohol taken on to the ship would be confiscated until the end of the cruise. The fridge in your cabin was for soft drinks or water and if you really wanted a bottle in your room you could buy it on board and pay a £5 surcharge. But all in all an excellent value holiday. We have already booked our next cruise for January in the Caribbean !

Comments:  Overall a very enjoyable holiday once we got to the ship. The flight out bound was over an hour late, that was not too bad but thompson fly decided it was a good idea to call
passengers to the gate , then to leave a plane load of passengers standing for 45 minutes while the aircraft was being prepared. The elderly passenger behind us on two walking sticks wasn't to impressed, neither was i.
Eventually boarding an hour late, were off hurray, making up 30 minutes on the flight arriving at Heraklion airport . quick transfer in luxury coach to the ship in the nick of time 30 minutes to sailing.
outside cabin on b deck with a good size window , cabin looking a bit dated, still a nice refuge when you have had enough being fried.
superb destinations. cost of excursions can be expensive for larger parties. staff brilliant, food good and plentifull, entertainment left a lot to be desired.
brilliant week till the last day! the down side for us was our 7pm departure from the ship left us like lost souls.
To top it all the airport was a smokey dive, toilets not working, no soap, no hand drying facilites, flight home, after booking a year in advance, our party of four was split up, leaving children with strangers, seats uncomfortable, no inflight entertainment, but it is only a four hour flight. still no drinking water.
All in all not a bad holiday. Ocean village please find a new air line we have to sit on these planes!

Comments:  The cruise itinerary was very good and we enjoyed all the places we visited. We did a Best of Tour in Dubrovnik with OV (do it on your own - cheaper), wandered round Corfu Town, Kefalonia and Katakolon - all very nice although Corfu Town and Kefalonia a bit of a trek!! Athens - did the Best of Athens (if going to Parthenon - do it on your own - cheaper).

We went on OV 2 last year and, although not fair to do comparisons, we both felt she was the better ship. Although both ships very similar obviously OV2 newer and OV did look a bit tired in places. We had a cabin with a window this year, not really worth the extra money as you spent most time on deck anyway....

Food, always a huge variety of food and absolutely no complaints.

Saw Manuel Matinez - again - he is brilliant and has you laughing from the word go. Matt Quinn has improved a lot. Acrobatic deck show very good. We didn't go to the cinema!!!!!

Serving/ cabin staff all very friendly. Officers could take a leaf out of their book - they were not so friendly although must say that the Captain had a sense of humour!

The other passengers - well - there WERE a lot of elderly people -maybe because this cruise is at the cheaper end of the cruise market. They weren't too bad!!!! Met some lovely people, Sue (you know who you are) had us creased up with laughter. Then there was the fag lady, the old gentleman, the big bloke and the rich **** couple (not so nice!!)

Heraklion Airport - if we never have to go there again it will be too soon (we have to go there next year for our OV2 cruise but at least we will be prepared!!!) Its a very small runway, the pilot had two goes at landing!! The airport itself is very small. On leaving OV we collected our boarding passes whilst still on board ship - great we thought, no hassle at airport - WRONG - passport control, they seemed to frisk every other person and when you did eventually got through it was a real grotty airport - yuk. We boarded our plane and unfortunately had to wait on runway for an hour due to greek military operations - what a pain, long flight, we just seemed to spend the day waiting or queing.

BUT the cruise itself was fantastic and if the airport had been better prepared for the onslaught of all the passngers we would have given this review 10 out of 10 ......

Comments:  16 april to 6 may

to start with you have to be dead or over 70 with one foot in the grave to enjoy a cruise with ov2 as they call it
we a party of 4 were on it for its birthday
one year today
what a let down
every time we docked a little man jumped out with a paint roller
to paint the side of the ship
and we docked at about 10 places
and to top it all everywhere you went on the ship for the whole crossing
you could smell varnish and that's what they did for the whole
trip we were on it varnish
with out a thought for health and safety of the passengers
what about the passengers who had asmir or bad chests
most of the time you could smell it but you were never sure where it was till you lent on a rail to look overboard and whoops you found it
no wet varnish sign
oh and what about closing the both swimming pools to re paint it
with out a thought for the passengers
both pools on different days
the food was bland very bland
and who wants to have to pay for fish and chips ????
and how about the docking in rome
last ship to dock on a bank holiday
got to rome at 11am to see the Sistine chapel
other trips had been their since 9.15am
what chance did we stand of seeing anything
and what did they say when we got back late
no refunds no refunds
and no managers on board to explain why ??????
and why oh why did we get so many bills we got a final
when we had 10 days left
then two days later another bill
and low and behold one day later another bill
and what were we told by michelle and vanessa its the computer
its the computer
one man even came down to find out why he had been sent
a bill when he was in credit by £25.00
how crazy is that ??????
only to be told its the computer
where were all the managers did any body meet any of them
no no no
why why why
how about the noise that went on all night from about 1am
when the connexions bar closed
why could they not do something about it
when your on deck 6 its right under it ????????
oh my and what about the deck chairs (talk about germans)
from 7am little old ladies were putting out 5 and 6 towels
to keep the chairs and not returning till late afternoon
some even had a bed in the sun and a chair in the shade just to be greedy
and they talk about the germans ???????????
and the no smoking was a joke just take a walk on deck 8
and you wheezing and coughing
i don't know how the people on deck 8 got on you could smell them comming
what about the other people who smoked in their cabin
and then just so we all got some of it left the door open all while smoking
like a trouper
how about when you try to make a complaint your met with blank stupid
looks (im sorry sir i don't know what you mean)
how many ways can you say i want to make an official complaint.
take me to your leader (im sorry sir no one is available)
don't be stupid were at sea woman where can he have gone
how about the two for one cocktails from 3.30 till 5.30 but only when we
are at sea
ask for a beer and you get one ???
why do you have to say i want the two for one offer
if it starts a 3.30 and you make your order at 4pm
why why why
how about the spar
go for a report as they call it no presser to buy just to let you know
what you need to be doing to stay healthy
oh my and low and behold you need this sir its the best thing for you
and its only £350.00 pounds
you wont get it any cheaper honest guv
but what about my report on what i need to be doing to stay in shape
will type it up and pop it on your door
but only if you buy this this and this
we will look after you
hey this is a good one why not get your pic taken with the captain
only cost you 4.99 and you get to see the ships wheel
or better still why not have one taken with any of the crew that you never see till
its time to get your money
as you can tell Barbados to palma never again
