Grande Hotel Vesuvio

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at this hotel and we were very happy with everything. I had booked teh hotel 4 months before and when we got there we were told that we had given an upgrade which was a very nice suite on the 8th floor with a fantastic view o the castle. Quality/price is excellent value. We also had a nice buffet breakfast included in the price. I woould definetely return.

The Grand Hotel Vesuvio has a great location on the corniche of Naples. But the hotel is overrated. I recommend that you try another hotel in the same stretch of hotels along the water. We had asked for a non-smoking room with a seaview and ended up on the one floor that has tiny and high windows. We could barely see anything out of this window. I stayed one night at the hotel on my way to Capri. I had arranged through the hotel for a limo to pick me up at the airport. My flight from London was delayed due to mechanical problems, and the hotel tried to charge me extra despite the fact that they had my flight number and said they would check the arrival time before coming to pick me up. This is really a fantastic hotel! It has a very classic style, but I think it is appropriate, because of the romance of the location and the history of the property; I found a very attentive staff, and a list of services that are truly 5 stars: Jaguar service to go everywhere you need, the Vesuvietta, the hotel's private luxury boat, Echia wellness club.....just everything you need! My wife and I recently spent a night at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Naples. Our original plan had been to stay for a longer visit but were dissuaded by posts on the forums concerning crime in Naples. We had a great time and wish we had stayed a lot longer. The staff was very attentive and the public areas were impressive. In summary, the hotel was great. Seems like reviewers disagree on this one. For what it is worth, we spent 2 very pleasant nights here in early August. Booked direct with hotel, reasonable rate for deluxe sea view rooms including breakfast. E250 per room. The rooms (there were 4 of us so we booked 2 rooms) were both very good; decor up to date and bath products fine (own label but good quality). Just returned from a Naples where we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in the Vesuvio. An excellent room with lovely views of the coastline and one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. The staff were friendly and efficient (including those on the reception desk). The ground floor bar lacked atmosphere, but other than that I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Naples and looking for a bit of luxury in an excellent location.

From start to finish our stay here was an unmitigated disaster! We had travelled all day and were met by a concierge that looked at us, and spoke to us, like we were something he had just stepped in. We thought that perhaps he was having an 'off' day but it turned out that was him having a good day. We stayed at the Grand Vesuvio for 2 nights in June, 2006 and this is what we observed: -Unlike some other prior reviewers we found this hotel to be worthy of a 4 or 5 star rating. Yes, the front desk personnel might be a little indifferent but who cares? Ignore them.
