ok for the price we paid
we got a deal to come here for a week in september , the resort was very quiet which suited us and the Hotel Isabel was mainly irish families . it was clean and the rooms were good . good value for money . and just above what we expected .
didn't like the isabel
We have just come back from a week in CalaBona While the area itself is lovely the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms could do with upgrading and new equiptment e.g kettle full of lime scale and shower curtain didn't fit across bath which meant we had a mini flood every time we showered. We did ask for a new kettle and shower curtain but never got it. The food in the hotel wasn't the best and often came cold my advise would be not to eat there just go to calabona harbour were there are lots of lovely resturaunts to choose from. The pool beggers belief as it is advertised as a family resort the pool is way to deep for any child to be in and the kiddies section is tiny so you would be lucky to get a spot in it. The saving grace of the hotel is the childrens entertainment our 7 year old girl loved it and many thanks to femka + Gang they were fantastic with there games and shows every day
Loved Cala Bona
We have just returned from a fortnight at the Isabel in Cala Bona. There were 4 of us travelling - 2 adults and 2 children - and we had a fantastic holiday. We loved Cala Bona and the Isabel Apts in certain areas were brillant and in others just fine. The room is what you would expect from a 3 star but it was air conditioned which was a god send as the temp was 42 one day! It was basic accomodation but it was fine considering all we did was sleep and shower in the rooms. The pool was fine - the kids pool is a bit small but our 2 kids had no complaints. I would advise anyone going with children to take jelly shoes for the kids to wear around the pool. The steps into the pool and the ground around the pool are anti - slip but quite rough. This was fine for adult feet but some young children did cut their feet on the surface. The food at the complex was fine for lunch and breakfast. The dinner menu was the same as the lunch menu so we headed into the town in the evenings. However the Buffet on Mon & Wed was good value for money and so was the BBQ on a Fri. Drinks are dearer in the complex and so are the prices in the Shop. However the Esperanza across the road has a reasonably priced supermarket as did the Sunwing further down the road. A 5 minute pleasant walk takes you into Cala Bona at the Harbour. We loved the resort. There are plenty of restaurants that cater for all needs (Try Smithys if you like English food, Paparazzi was great for Italian and Cafe Nautic and Foni del Mar for Fish and meat). The prices were very reasonable. The best thing about the Isabel however was the kids entertainers. Granted these are not professionals but they certainly give it a go and worked damn hard. Our Kids loved them all and they loved the Koko Loko Disco each night at 8.30pm. After the disco there was a show of some description and anything that can keep my 2 entertained for over an hour has to be good. There was a great atmosphere about the place and a lot of fun in the evenings. With regards to the sunbeds. I don't agree with the previous comment that they were reserved at night. We didn't go out till the morning and always got beds. However what was annoying was the number of people who had towels on beds but did not appear until lunchtime. Very unfair on those who came down to the pool about 10am and couldn't get a bed. The poolside was cleaned every day - strangely only 1 side though. However the pool was not. Just be careful as we did hear of a number of people who got ear infections as a result of the pool but it did not affect us. All in all we had a great holiday and meet some lovely people. We loved Cala Bona and our stay at the Isabel was pleasant and the fact that teh kids loved the clubs, disco and entertainment so much made it a pleasure for us.
ok but I wont be returning
I am going to keep this short and to the point. GOOD POINTS:....Brilliant Weather...... Friendly Staff .....Kids loved it but they dont understand.....Cala Bona Harbour area Beautiful .....Waldo...Femke.....Nicolene.....Rik gave total attention to the kids BAD POINTS :.....Immature LifeGuard throwing kids into pool and showing them how to perform dangerous dives etc .......only on his day off did the pool feel safe when stand in LifeGuard on duty..... The amount of children and adults suffering from Ear Infections caused from using the pool scared me..........Bar Prices were only ok but as usual the Irish will pay........Entertainment was crap although the Entertainers tried their best .....Typical Budget Travel Holiday, You get what you pay for OVERALL: Wont book with Budget Travel again as you are only getting the cheapest holiday and with it the worst accommodation Been to Porto Colom last year which is also owned by the Ola Hotel Group and really now I am sick of poor holiday Packages from both Budget Travel and the Been on Holiday with Falcon Holidays and really there is no comparision One word of advice for anyone going ..........use the beach coz you dont know what you or your family will catch in the pool.........an even better piece of advice would be ...Dont book with Budget Travel....
A very run down resort
A very run down resort with poor facilities and even poorer service. While the tired rooms were kept clean by staff the rest of the facility was littered with rubbish. The kid’s playground can only be described as dangerous with a Frankenstein collection of faded ill fitting plastic climbing toys with sharp broken edges. The sandy floor of this play area was a terrible mix of rubbish and broken hidden tiles. The kids club was “boring”. Staff did nothing interactive with the children other than hand them crayons and sit them in front of the same video day in day out. Drinks at the bar were over priced, flat and served by surly lazy staff. Incorrect change was a constant problem and hour long waits to get food was common. The kid’s swimming pool could only be described as a puddle which was wholly inappropriate for a Family advertised facility. Both the indoor and outdoor adults’ pool resembled a science projects Petri dishes with the lifeguards providing no preventative service other than pushing people into the pool. The number of kids/Adults with torn feet from the rough surface of the pool was only beaten by the growing number attending the local clinic with ear infections. If you were lucky enough to obtain a sun chair around the pool area the lack of parasols left most unprotected from the strong sun. Despite complaints to staff and reps nearly all sun chairs were reserved the night before. Why can’t the chairs be hosed down and stacked in the evening like most other resorts or at least make sure enough are provide for the numbers accommodated. The room had a number of faults including; feeble aircon, broken TV Cable, no cover sheet for sofa beds, Broken bide, missing drawer from cabinet, missing door shelf from fridge, Curtain not the same size as window. When the Satellite TV cable was replaced only six stations were available and only one in English.
EXCELLENT PLACE FOR FAMILIES
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Ola Isabel aparthotel, Cala Bona, Majorca and we can honestly say we had a great time... As soon as we arrived at the complex and we were greeted by the staff we knew we were in for a good time, the staff were all very friendly, courteous, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The apartments were very clean and quite spacious with air conditioning which was a life saver as the weather was really hot. The apartments were cleaned 6 days a week with towel changes every 1-2 days and bedding changed every 2 days. The kids were kept entertained by 4 dutch entertainers, Femke, Nicoline, Rick and Waldo who put all their effort into different activities for the kids in and around the pool area, they also made sure the parents were'nt left out and held different activities like aqua aerobics, rifle shooting, soccer, pool competitions and other activities, early evening they provided the koko loko disco for the kids later in the evening they put on their on plays which were very entertaining before ending the night with everyone on their feet singing and dancing to the koko loko disco songs, i don't think theres a child or adult who left the complex without knowing a routine and song ... (Keep up the good work you guys)... The outdoor pool was very refreshing however we found it to be very deep for children and we would advise anyone with small children to get some kind of swimming aids. Although there is a lifeguard at the pool on a daily basis... The indoor pool is in quite a seculded area and we were quite alarmed to find on numerous occassions that the door was always unlocked leaving easy access for children to enter this area where there was no supervision at all. The food at the hotel is'nt great, however a short distance away takes you to the harbour where there is plenty of restaurants and bars to choose where to eat, we would recommend chiri's great food and excellent value for money... If like us you enjoy a good fry up some mornings then the place to go is smithys at the harbour for a bumper fry which is a good cure for a hangover. The london inn is also a good place for food... The supermarket in the complex is quite expensive however the hotel across the road from the ola isabel is much cheaper and a has a better variety of foods... Gift buying is much cheaper in the little shops down the side streets off the beach front... The beach in Cala Millor is beautiful and is easily accessed by the little train that passes the complex every day and is also very cheap to use... All in all we had a great time at the ola isabel and cala bona and will definitely be returning.
aprthotel isabela
Well just back from Majorca, where we stayed at the Aparthotel Isabela. Although our BudgetTravel broucure said "within waling distance of shops restaurants "etc... it was a fair walk. Which wasn't really helped by the tempterature of 40 degrees. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. An advertised kids club consistes of 4 people who are going from 11am and by 11pm when the adult "entertainment" is over they are all but ready to collapse. They could really do with at least double the amunt of staff. The activities are mostly centered around very young kids 4 - 10 and as we had a 12 year old boy with us , he was bored when in the hotel. There is 1 pool table which is ALWAYS comanderes by 6 years olds who will not allow you to have a real game. NOW take head, the POOL is terrible, smalll enoung for the amount of visiter , must the real problem is the depth. For the most it's over 1.8m and even in the shalow end which is only about 4 meters wide it is 1.4m . So therefor the tiny kiddies pool is alwasy too full. The food is ok, with a faily good selection. But PLEASE do NOT have the barbecue which takes place every friday. Our chicken still had blood running from it and the rest, which had been partly precooked was cold!!! not worth taking the risk os a hosptial stay. and the onsite supermarket is NOt a supermarket, it's the smallest shop with very empty shelves!! Don't think i'd return...... welll our 12 year says he certainly wno't!!!
nice little bay
I have just returned from the Ola Isabel cala bona Majorca. My wife and I stayed there from 15 june till 22nd. Cala Bona is wonderfull. The resuturants and the hospitality is first class. It is more for the middle agers, but has great walks and the harbour is very nice indeed. Ola Isabel apartments is very much a typical 3 star and it is value for money. They only down point and I would urge all those with small children to consider is the pool. It is the deepest i have ever encountered in my travels. There is a permanent life guard on duty and that tells you everthing. The majority of the guests come from Eire and they were a great bunch, being scots/irish i felt right at home. All in all the area is magnificent the ola apartments allright.
Clean accommodation, pleasant helpful staff
A quiet area. Activities provided for kids. All was quiet at night. Cheap Bike hire. Very pleasant staff. I would particularly mention Pedro, the night porter, who seemed to know our room before we asked . A gentleman! Local supermarkets expensive by Spanish standards, but what can you do? Watch out re restaurant nearby down at beach...prices displayed DO NOT INCLUDE VAT! All in all tho, very relaxing.
for a quiet break, this is the spot for you
my family and I have just arrived back from a week long break in the isabel apartments. On the whole, the weather was good, with only one rainy day which led us to the caves of drach in the lovely village of porto christo. On fine days myself and my husband would have had a preference to go to the white sandy beach in Cala Millor (5 euro in a taxi from the hotel or the tourist train from otside the hotel that leaves 15 mins after the hour, every hour for 3 euro for the 4 of us) but my kids were so smitten with the lovely Femke in the kids club that it was hard to get away! I have to say that she made the holiday very special for my 5 year old with loads of dancing and activities throughout the day. We didn't get to go out much at night as we had to be back every evening at 8.30 for the koko loco disco! but there was entertainment every night (except saturday) in the hotel until 12 midnight. The one bedroom apartments were basic but very clean, the beds were comfortable and the towels changed every other day, and the staff were friendly. The only thing that I would find fault with was the food in the hotel. It was pretty bad and my advice would be vring a jar of coffee and teabags with you to have in your room. There is a shop on the hotel grounds, but it is exceptionally expensive. Across the road in the esperenza hotel , there is a very reasonable supermarket with fresh bread and a range of english products also. on the whole, we were looking for a nice quiet break away with the kids, age 5 and 2 and thats exactly what we got. I would have rated this as a 3 star average, but the extra point awarded to this hotel has to go to Femke and her gang for making my little girl feel very special for her first holiday abroad.
