My partner and I were daunted at the prospect of travelling and staying away from home with our 18 month child last year, plus the fact I was about 7 and a half months pregnant. I have to say that the Iberotel was fantastic. The room was a fair size with room for a travel... more

My wife and i stayed at iberhotel, we found the place to be clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room although small had everything we needed and was cleaned daily. The swimming pool was big and the surrounding gardens lovely. Breakfast was buffet style and... more

Very peacefully situated. Pool area quiet with plenty of sun beds available. Pleasant gardens to have a stroll in, with some wildlife. The staff could do with smiling a bit more! Room was spotless, but it would have been nice to have tea making facilities. We only had... more

Reading the other comments I wondered if we stayed at the same Hotel. For a 4 star rating there is no room service, try and get a cup of tea in the afternoon. The Bed Has a definite slope to the side. The walk into Alvor was half an hours walk and to the beach add another... more

This hotel most certainly does not live up to its 4 star rating. The rooms are small, the pool service is none existent. The buffet breakfast was adequate but the hot food selections were invariably tepid. The same applied to the evening meal buffet. The choice on offer for... more

A beautiful new hotel with excellent facilities. The rooms are generous and all feature air conditioning. There is a well sized balcony area overlooking the pool. The pool itself is of a good size. The hotel is situated a ten minute walk from the centre of Alvor village.... more

perfect hotel!
Having looked at this website before going i was really afraid of what me and my family was in store for... The hotel was the last stop on the bus and from the outside i wasnt over impressed. When i entered the hotel however i was really impressed. The foyer was cool and airy, and very modern. The bedrooms were modern and comfortable. The food was delicious. The staff were really helpful. The highlight for me was the outstanding pool. It was beautifully laid out. So if you are goin to the iberotel dont be out off by the other comments. It is truely magnificent.
Great!
This hotel is very good. The pool is fantastic. The food is nice (the snacks at the pool not so good). The rooms are great. The hotel was recently renovated - the decoration is beutiful. Alvor is a marveillous villa - with one of the best beaches of the world!!!
Really good, classic 4 star hotel
Having read the other reviews we were a little wary but thankfully the Iberotel Alvor turned out to be an excellent, contemporary 4 star hotel - a match for any small 4 star hotel in fact. The location is well back from the resort but when you book it, that's part of your choice - be in the heart of a noisy resort or in an oasis of quiet. There a many Portuguese and Spanish guests - hardly a bad thing, and this is Portugal after all, not some tacky, over-developed Costa. Food was excellent - very good quality, reasonable variety for a buffety. Not a huge choice but then it is a small hotel and for the price you pay... Rooms were excellent, nice firm hotel beds, very contemporary furnishings, beautiful bathroom - blue marble. Do ask for a room facing the pool when you book - the outlook on the other side is uninspiring, to the pools and lakes is very nice. There is a bus at various points in the day down to the stunning beach and town. But, it's only a 15min walk to town - which we did every evening - and if you want to explore further, five euros in a cab to Portimao/Praia da Rocha, and three euros on the bus to Lagos (the stop is just down the hill). The staff were all very friendly and efficient in a professional way - this isn't your usual tacky tourist hotel, so don't go expecting them to be singing and dancing, if you want that, book somewhere in Praia da Rocha. Don't be put off by the other reviews, we can only assume people have unreasonable expectations.
Not 4 Star
This Hotel is not a 4 Star its a 3 Star at a push!! When you pull up at the Hotel it seems like your in the middle of no where but its only a 15 minute walk to the town which is very nice and maybe 25 minute to the beach!! The rooms at the Hotel are nice but the beds where like sleeping on concrete, there are no tea making facilities in the rooms and to get any drinks through the day you have to go to the pool bar where I might add the staff are in NO rush to serve you, there is also NO food being served through the day so into town you must go... There is NO entertainment in the hotel only once in the week did we have any and that was on the Saturday a singer if you could call them that. The people that stay at the hotel seemed to be either Spanish and Portuguese not many British. The Staff where not helpful and in no rush to serve you or help all thou the main receptionist was very nice. The food as we were half board wasnt all that we ate out 4 nights out of the 7!! As a whole the Hotel was clean but I'd never go back there again.. Oh the pool was nice...
Nice Hotel BUT!
The Iberhotel is a nice hotel but as so many reviewers have already said, its not worth the four star rating. To be honest its only about a 3 star hotel. I was relieved when the bus pulled up outside the hotel as some of the apartments we had dropped people off at, were dire! The reception area is lovely with the bar adjoining. The rooms were the best part of the hotel, really nice decor with TV and mini fridge. We were on B & B basis and the food was bad. You won't starve but I'd stay away from the cooked breakfast at all costs! The staff just didn't want to be there and seemed to spend the morning setting the tables for the evening meal and God help you if you sat at a table which they had set!! There was no food to be got during the day in the hotel. If only they served food at the pool side bar they would make a fortune! The other bad thing about the hotel was the distance into the centre of Alvor. It was fine to walk into town but not out again. We spent a fortune getting taxi's in an out during the day and night. Alvor itself was lovely and I would recommend it as a holiday destination. But if I return I'll be booking an apartment or hotel near the beach or closer to the town centre.
not bad but not four star
this is a nice hotel but not a four star one. The best thing about it is the pool area, its beautifully laid out,. spacious and has plenty of sunbeds although not enough umberellas. The only bar area seats about forty people and the chairs need a good cleaning. The dining room is grim, soleless and completely lacking in atmosphere and the food is dire. We were half board but only ate there once. The bedrooms are nice with a mini fridge and good english tv channels. The bathroom is small with a half size bath, showerover and unfortunately no bidet, although in fairnessthe rooms are cleaned with fresh towels every day. Its a nice twenty minute walk into Alvor which is lovely and theres a good bus serviceto Portimao and Lagos.
2 weeks is too much in the Iberotel Alvor
We're just back from 2 weeks holidays in the Iberotel Alvor and We really enjoyed the Algarve the highlight being our drives to the surrounding towns and the Monchique mountains especially Caldas de Monchique; truly food for the eyes But the Iberotel is a very different matter the hotel is very comfortable with large garden and fair sized pool, it has such potential but sadly the management doesn't seem to care about the comfort or wellbeing of its guests The food was dire absolutely awful, I can still taste it, I am certain that the food was of good quality but whatever the chef did to it totally destroyed its flavours everything tasted the same Breakfast consisted of rubber scrambled eggs horrible sausages and streaky bacon some mornings there were mushrooms, there was never enough bread for toast the juices were over diluted and the coffee machines were constantly broken the automatic toaster took ages, the mostly surly staff were constantly busy trying to lay the tables for the evening meal it was just automatic you just knew they did not want to be there Evening meals were no better with the exception of one night when we had beef that actually tasted of beef we ate here 5 nights out of our 14 night of holidays because it was convenient, mostly we ate the salad which was usually very edible and enjoyed a bottle of wine, what a pity as it has such great potential On numerous occasions when we were sunbathing by the pool the gardener would start the lawnmower about 10:30am and continue to mow the grass close to the pool side the noise and fumes were awful I complained but the grass cutting started again in the afternoon they just didn’t care, this is not good enough for a supposedly 4 star hotel The bar was small and poorly manned, service was so slow and stopped sharp at 12 even though the brochure said it was open until 1:00am it has an obnoxious barman or as he called himself, Head Barman Jose Manuel his attitude was that of Mr Faulty, he was always right and not very good for the hotel he needs retraining IMO there was only one barman and that was Joao a true gentleman and great barman he is a credit to the hotel and should be given the head barman’s job immediately Wireless Internet costs are 10 Euro per hour for a very slow service and not worth it; again IMO the hotel should not have a 4 start rating it doesn’t deserve it, We will be back in the Algarve and Alvor because it is such a friendly place but will be staying somewhere else
wow
Catherine+Ronan (Cork, Ireland) What can I say but WOW. I'm finding it hard to go somewhere else since. Myself and my boyfriend stayed there the last week in June '06 and what an amazing place. We travelled by bus to the hotel and i must say we were getting frightened when we saw what was on offer for the other travellers, ours was the last stop and my god were we very very pleasantly surprised. A beautiful hotel, room, and pool. With lovely staff who are more than willing to make you pool side cocktails and sandwiches (most important) it was luxury treatment. It was a lovely five to ten minute walk into alvor town which again is stunning and has the right balance of fine dining and good fun. It was not a major party town by any means but a very classic place with amazing locals who proved enough fun. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and almost insist on it as a must see holiday destination. As I have stated I'll find it hard to go on my next holiday as I know it will be tough to compare.
Does Not Deserve 4* Rating At All
First of all, the food was terrible, basic, no fresh fruit, same old same each day. Broken tea/coffee machines, no fresh juices, shortage of cutlery, shortage of tables, the hotel shuttle bus was broken, hotel had no pay phone, the nearest was a 15 min walk, the hotel had Jacuzzi and gym facilities, however did not find out until we arrived that there was a charge of 5 euros per hour for each facility. The rep kirsty was very unhelpful and did not return after her first visit. The lounge bar did not service drinks until 3pm, we were told we could not have a cup of tea. There were no breakfast provided when we went on early trips. The staff were abrupt and unhelpful. We were advised by rep to pre book seats home as staff at faro airport don’t tend to book p[people seats together going home. So we did, and paid 18 euros. Arrived at airport to find staff knew nothing about this and were seated isles apart.
Doesn't Warrant 4* Rating
We stayed in this hotel over Christmas for a total of five nights. Having stayed in other 4* hotels around the Algarve it was a disappointing experience. The rooms are small, the bathrooms have almost no space for personal items and to add insult to injury we were allocated a room at the front of the hotel that got no sun at all during the day, therefore making it impossibe to use the (tiny) balcony. The lounge area of the hotel is inadequate for the size of the actual estabishment and appears as if it was almost an afterthought. The staff, with the exception of those on reception, were unprofessional and indifferent and the service in the restaurant was the worst I have ever encountered. No provision whatsoever was made for Christmas and there was no entertainment of any kind either on Christmas Eve or Christmas night itself and there were numerous complaints from other guests about this and other issues, namely the length of time it took to get served in the bar which was manned by one person only, even at the very busiest of times. On a more positive note, the hotel is set in lovely grounds and the food, whilst repetitive and often not really hot enough, was quite good. The hotel has the potential to be excellent but under it's current management falls very short of this and presents itself as an impersonal, somewhat unfriendly establishment to which I would not return.
