This Hotel needs Elbow Grease

"We were booked in for a self catering holiday but intended to use the restaurant at the hotel a couple of times each week of our stay.

On arrival at Jasmine we were told by the owner that we were not expected, no booking had been made for us! Thankfully I had all the paperwork with us and was able to show that a booking had been made and paid for. It took them over an hour for them to find us an apartment at the Jasmine. Eventually we were given a key to a twin bedded apartment, though we had booked a double. Later on we were to discover that they had double booked some rooms, when we met an English couple, who had been told to move out, although they had paid and been told there were available rooms!

At this point we just scrambled into the beds to sleep, if only that had been possible. One bed squeaked and creaked with the slightest movement and the other bed had a lumpy mattress. Come the morning we could see exactly where we had come for our "holiday".

The bed linen admittedly was clean but to say it had seen better days would be an understatement. Holes were evident in many areas of the sheets. On day 8, we had to ask for our sheets to be changed!

The apartment was anything but clean, you will see that from the photos. The light switches were filthy, surfaces had not been cleaned, bins were absolutely disgusting. When you mentioned anything to the owners or manager, all you heard was "I'll get maintenance onto it". The apartment was supposed to have a television and it did, it looked like it had come out of a skip and had neither a hand set or aerial. When this was mentioned to the management, the reply was " I will see if maintenance can find one not being used", pardon! One not being used? Televisions are advertised for all rooms and apartments, so why wasn't one there? Now I would normally say something had been lost in the translation but the owners and managers spoke very good English. The walls throughout the hotel were dirty, it looked like an attempt was made to clean some but grease/dirty marks could still be seen.

Now I am going to mention safety at this hotel is poor to say the least. Parts of the balconies are crumbling, with pieces falling away, as you will see in the attached pictures. If this wasn't bad enough the emergency lighting is non existent! The boxes are there but they are all empty, no fittings could we find on any of the floors! Fire doors were wedged open and presumably left propped open all day and night, unless someone removed the door wedges.

The pool area is anything but clean. Cement was breaking up, causing trip hazards, or cut toes. The pool was "visited" each day by the pool man, who walked around the edge picking up leaves and then going to the pump room for about 5 minutes. The water appears clean but the grouting is filthy, discoloured black in many areas. it wasn't somewhere you wanted to swim.

It was certainly not the holiday we had hoped for and escaped everyday in our hire car.

Not to be repeated!

"We have just returned from a 2 week holiday on Cyprus at Jasmine Hotel and Apartments. We were booked in for a 2 week self catering holiday.

We arrived exhausted, as we had sat on the plane for 2 hours waiting to be de-iced and cleared for take off, no ones fault, just part of life. We were met by taxi at Larnaca and taken to the Jasmine. Only then to be told by the owner that we were not expected, no booking had been made for us! Thankfully I had all the paperwork with us and was able to show that a booking had been made and paid for. It took them over an hour for them to find us an apartment at the Jasmine. Now I am disabled and apart from being very tired was in quite a lot of pain by this point. Eventually we were given a key to a twin bedded apartment, though we had booked a double. Later on we were to discover that they had double booked some rooms, when we met an English couple, who had been told to move out, although they had paid and been told there were available rooms!

We were so tired at this point we just scrambled into the beds to sleep, if only that had been possible. My husbands bed squeaked and creaked with the slightest movement and the other bed had a lumpy mattress. Come the morning we could see exactly where we had come for our holiday.

The bed linen admittedly was clean but to say it had seen better days would be an understatement. Holes were evident in many areas of the sheets. At some point someone had tried to punch a hole in the bedroom door, no repair had been attempted!

Quite frankly we could go on for a very long time about this "Hotel", the food alone would take up a small book. We had intended eating a few times in the restaurant but Christmas dinner was more than enough for us!

It certainly was no holiday for us or any other of the guests we met whilst there.

I went here with a friend at the...

"I went here with a friend at the beginning of September and was dissapointed after looking foward to it so much. This is not a 4* Hotel. Its more 3* and thats only becuase of the pool. We stayed in a pool side room on the 1st floor which had barely enough room to swing a cat, let alone have 2 suit cases in there. The balcony looked as though it had been added as an after thought and was so small that 2 people barely fit on there with the table. As soon as the sun went down, we couldnt see anything as there is no lighting out there whatsoever. On the bright side, the pool area is lovely - its clean and there are lots of sun loungers. The pool bar is quite expensive though and charge over one euro for a small bottle of water. Its about a 10 minute walk from restaurants/bars which isn't too bad but still a bit of a walk. I was told that the hotel is gradually undergoing renervations so if you are thinking of staying here, then I would wait a few years until the improvements have been made."

The Jasmine apartments where do I...

"The Jasmine apartments where do I start? Well the first day, me and my partner arrived we was told there is a problem. This was because our room had been double booked by the hotel and we had to stop at another flee bitten place for our first supposedly relaxing day. After all day travelling this was disgusting and humiliating, not a good start!

Then when we was at the apartment we stopped bed and breakfast for 13 nights (supposed to be 14) and had a continental breakfast and there was beans, bacon, scrambled egg. This didn't change for the whole two weeks. Let me tell you we was sick to the back teeth of what was supposed to be described as an al a carte breakfast.

The cleaning was symbolical at the best, at worst it was down right disgusting and a health hazard. We had to write on a piece of paper to get our hand basin cleaned and the bathroom window was never cleaned. We had the push button air con which looked 30 years old, after 8 days we became seriously ill with chest problems it was only after we cancelled this that the tight chest and breathlessness began to subside.

The hotel says it has live entertainment every night, does it, I don't think so, and the hotel says you get a friendly smile. Yeah right!!

My advice to you is steer well and truly clear of this place, I would give it at least a zero star rating, which incidentally the Hotels4u.com described it as a 4 star STAR hotel.

Concentration Camp.Carol

"Stayed at the Jasmine Apartments out of no choice of ours. Originally booked Sunsmile Aprts but unfortunately the placed had closed down. Libra had booked us in the Jasmine. Unfortunately all the things I had read what was available on the internet and Libras brochures they stated that the Jasmine had entertainment nights (NOT TRUE), games machines (NOT TRUE). The aprts were standard and clean. Unfortunately the Manager and his wife were very rude. We were not allowed to use the bar after midnight nor go out to the pool side for a quite drink as we were told by the reception desk because we might wake the owners up. (This was a joke, we were on holiday not in a concentation camp.)

Did not see Libra rep in the two weeks we were there, apparently you needed to make an appointment to see her (What was it, was I going to make a dentist appointment). I am greek cypriot and love Limassol, but the experience we had at the Jasmine, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Several people were moaning about the hotel, so I do hope that they write their reviews on this hotel. As for the mini market, it states that its open 24 hrs well thats a complete lie, the manager refused to sell some cigs to a holiday maker, he told her to go out to one of the bars to buy some.

And to end this review just letting you know that the pool is quite deep. You need to be over 5ft tall to be able to stand in the shallow end.

"The rooms were standard and fairly clean. The manager and his wife were very unhelpful. You had to make an appointment to see your rep (unheard of in all my travelling).

Brochure/Internet specified that there was a 24 hour mini market (not true) bar in the hotel was never open after 12 midnight.

We couldn’t even go out to the pool side area for a chat or drink as the doors and lights would be closed and switched off.

Again Brochure/internet specified that there was Greek/entertainment nights (again not true) also games machines all around the complex (yet again not true).

The pool was very deep, you had to be over 5ft tall to be able to stand in the shallow end.

I think Libra should look again at this hotel and update their information as they are giving false information to their customers.

I will never book with Libra again.

pure example of average

"Found my stay at jasmine hotel enjoyable but i agree with the race track outside . nice pool area with a bar. Food was ok there but you have to go to woodmans cheap and really nice , turn left at pizza hut but keep on left handside of rd. good bars along the front. And yes there is a lot of ants scattered around the hotel."

Not That Bad

"we stayed here last 2 weeks in June, and found the staff quite friendly. We did not have to pay extra for air con, which others have mentioned, possibly the 1/2 person rooms on the top floor have not got this as there are no heat exchange units on their balconies, which are just big enough for 2 people. We stayed in a 3 person room on the 3rd floor and it was fine, though the 'maids' come about 10.30 if you're trying to lie in. The road outside is a bit noisy with passing traffic, and some guests were complaining, they do roar along the main road into town which is 100 yards away. There is a shop and a bakery just up the road from Jasmine, and 3 good food places nearby along the main road to the left, and a at least one more to the right incl an Indian one. The beach is nearby also, behind Pizza Hut, but has a stoney bit just at the water's edge. Beware the sand gets hot! The main tourist area is at least a quarter of a mile away, and Limassol town centre is 20 mins on the bus. We liked the old town, but shops similar, locals friendly. Lady's Mile beach round the bay towards Akrotiri is definately worth a visit, as it has nice sandy beach, but you need a car really to get there. Nicosia is about 60 mins drive away, was v hot when we went but shops are quite nice and locals friendly."

Awful Hotel & Place.

"We visited limassol 06/07 and stayed in the jasmine apprts, which apon entering reception it looked a nice clean hotel, sadly this wasnt the case.

So here are a few points before considering a stay in jasmine & limmasol.

Bathroom- hadnt been cleaned and there were dirt rings in bath and wash basin, mirror was so dirty it was hard to see yourself in it, the towels looked as if they hadnt been washed in weeks.

Bedroom/Living area- The only cleaning in these rooms from the daily maid seemed to be sweeping the floor, she would put dirty cups etc back into cupboard (unwashed), bed sheets only seem to get washed if you wash them yourself, and they have a serious problem with Ants (and i dont mean one or two) prob about 10 in each bed and lots over the walls esp when using the hairdryer as this seems to send them into a frenzy. The fridge in room was dirty and the smelled like cabbage.

The Staff- Seemed unable to rasie a smile, seemingly unable to look at you when talking to you, and use grunts as communication.

Pool/Bar/Restaurant- Pool area looked ok but we didnt use these areas as rooms so dirty i didnt even want to think how bad the kitchen was esp with all the ants.

Services- Safe was fairly priced at 1 cyp a day (83p) but Air con a little expensive at £3.50 cyp a day (about £4.20)

Limassol it's self we found wasnt the ideal holiday location, The main road through the town which most hotels are on is used the locals as the race track, and even when you use the crossings many DON'T stop, this is because many are driving like boy racers high speeds (eg motorbike driving 80+ mph pulling wheelies and the noise is awful (not great as this is where the restaurants are,a bit like having a picknick next to M25 except faster).

The town its self was very clean this was prob because there was only a handfull of tourists, the beechs are ok but the sand is black/dark and lots of rocks on it and in the water.

The food in most resturants was pretty good in most places (woodman and shades really good) but was overpriced and saw some places selling egg and chips 3.50 cyp (about £4.20) and drinks quite expensive too unless drinking local sprints/wines/beers.

Finally when we heard the local hospitality was legendary we didnt realise this meant it was legendary find any, rude and arrogant 85% of the time except the ones who were taking your 3.50 cyp for egg and chips (they always had a smile on there face;s, strange that ! )

Weather - fantastic

After 6 days here we just wanted to be somewhere else (anywhere apart from limassol) so we went and hired a hotel in ayia napa (3 days) and paphos (4 days) Both of these places were everything limassol wasnt, friendly, fairly priced, lots to do, and not next to the race track.

If you do find yourself at limassol after reading this, dont say i didnt warn you..

so this was an upgrade....................................

"stayed at the jasmine 11-25th july in a family party of 20.

originally booked in at the valana but changed by thomas cook 3 days before flying. told this was an upgrade!?.

hotel staff abrupt at the best of times and the mini shop in the foyer did not sell milk, so if on a late arrival dont expect to be able to make tea or coffee.

we had one day each week without water (maintance) leaving no toilet facilities which is not good when you have young children.

owners decided to paint the walls of the stairs and the banister during our stay leaving the smell of paint everywhere.

took the hotel a week to fix one of the fridges in the rooms and one of the sofa beds broke.

swimming pool was overrun by locals at the weekends who would remove your towel from the sun lounger if you were not there.

limassol beach is dark dirty sand and very stoney so again not good for the children.

limassol is very drawn out but the bus was only 80 cents to get off anywhere you wanted.

limassol is generally expensive approx 20% more than the uk.

Not bad but wouldn't go to Limassol again! Disappointing!

"Stayed at Jasmine 11th-25th july 2006, in family group of 20. Hotel not too bad, but very disappointed in the location. Hotel is on a road that has a lot of traffic noise, the restaurants, shops, bars etc. are a fair walking distance away, balcony is tiny & only room for 2 chairs....a squeeze for 2 people to sit out on! The pool became overcrowded in the afternoon, as was over-run by locals who insisted on 'dive-bombing' into the pool to see who could make the biggest splash!! This was not safe for our own kids to swim in at this time, as we saw a couple of people nearly landed on by the local kids who just ran & jumped into the pool without bothering to check if anyone was in their path!

None of us were impressed by Limassol at all, it is too much of a "towny" place (OK if you like that sort of thing, but not if you want everything close by & relaxing!). The male cashier at the local bank was very abrupt & rude, slamming the passport & money onto the counter, (that is when he finally decided to get off the phone and serve us!) we felt very unwelcome in spite of the fact that we were giving the bank our business!!

We found the need to hire cars to see something of Cyprus, but check prices with the hire company before agreeing, as we found the prices were actually more than quoted when the cars were delivered & it came to filling out the forms. (They tried to charge us £62 extra for fuel in advance, yet we only used around £30 worth).

On a positive note, we had several good meals in the 'old town' at Cabalero's (near to the castle), who made us very welcome and the food was great & reasonably priced!
