We have just returned from a two week holiday,Myself and myboyfriend both 19. We had a wounderful time. Are flight was at night, when we arrived, we were like oh [--] we are in the middle of nowhere. But it was completly different. We were only €6 in a taxi away from Gouves little town, which has some nice pubs, shops and resturants. It was also only €15 in taxi to hersonosis, which we went every night. The night life is great down there, for young and old! In the apartments there is great entertainment, kareoke etc. Great crack. The pools are amazing, one of them is so deep that you are not scared at all to dive in because you know you are not going to hit the bottom. There are alot of Irish in this hotel and also some English which is great! Food isnt great over here :( But we found 2 most amazing places to eat in Gouves 1. Harris's - dis food is amazing, nice restruant and he is really friendly 2. Da Divinci Code - family ran restruant, super food also. Those are the two only places that are nice to eat over there. Budget travel organise a day to the water park, but unfortunatly we went and it wasnt the good one, it was the smaller one, so I recommend you find out how to book the bigger one. Directly outside the gates of the apartments in a shop which is cheaper than the one in the apartments, the lady which runs the shop in so so kind. Anyway I would definatly recommend these apartments, absolutly amazing :)
lyda apartments were lovely
from busted
booked very last minuite for a family of 5, so was'nt expecting much, however, the lyda aprtments really surprised us. the apartments themselves are basic but clean.i was given a maisonette at first, but its so small, hot and stuffy i asked to be moved - no problem.staff very friendly and helpful.pools and pool decks very clean.entertainment on most nights.shop and taverna across the road much cheaper than apartment complex.a bit of walk away from beach especially for younger ones in the heat.overall we enjoyed every minute.
Gorgeous Place, Extremly Quiet & relaxed!!
from Julie_stimpson
I was here the 2nd week in June. Its a very quiet resort but lovely. Staff are lovely also & friendly. Food is lovely, try the peppered steak! Yum!! Cocktails also YUM!! Not much going on around the hotel in the evenings, Kareoke on Friday nights, good laugh & Greek Night is on Wednesday night. There is also a buffet on that night & its €15 each. This small town in Crete is very very VERY quiet, practically no nightlife at all except a few couples & familys wating out or wandering around. There are two Irish bars on the main street, a few nice shops for picking up souvenirs, but if your looking to go shopping, then Hersonisos is the place to go. Also the nightlife here is brilliant! Amazing pubs and nightclubs. I definitly would NOT recommend this place for a holiday with your friends, its far too quiet for me.
fabulous holiday

We felt compelled to write a review of the lyda beach appartments in gouves as before going on holidays we checked tripadvisor and the majority of the reviews where very negative,so much so we nearly cancelled our holiday. What we found on arriving was a very friendly resort, clean and safe. The appartments where basic but very clean and the staff very friendly and accomadating.. Gouves is a small and quiet town and is ideal for young famillys and those looking for a quieter holiday.A great selection of restaurants and shops.Lovely beaches right on your doorstep. We travelled with two kids 2 and 5 who really enjoyed themselves. Overall a great weeks holiday.
Lyda Beach
from IRELAND6977
Just back from one week in the Lyda Beach apartments in Gouves. First arrived in the apartments at 7am after travelling all night long so we were totally shattered, and when i went into the apartment i cried, it was so small and hot, and i couldnt get the lights to work, so i went back to reception and qued while everyone else checked in only to be told it was a magnetic key and had to bed placed in a holder for the lights to work, might have been handy if i was told that when i was checking in. After sleeping for a couple of hours things didnt seem so bad, the apartments were still tiny and hot but they were at least very clean. we had our apartment cleaned every second day and had new towels on these days. The apartments are right accross from the sea and staff are friendly enough and the breakfast was v nice. There are quiet a few rules put up if you loose keys or anything it will cost you, and i believe they stick to these rules strictly, the only rule they dont seem to stick to is the "no noise after 12" rule, it was often 4 or 5 in the morning before the singing stopped. Also you have to pay a deposit of 100 euro when you check in, this is fairly standard but what they dont tell you is if you loose your recipet they will not return your depoist so be very careful with it. Gouves itself is very very quiet, day and night, and lyda beach is quiet a walk from the centre of gouves.
Great Time !!

Myself+my boyfriend have just returned from a week in the Lyda Apts, Gouves, Crete. We had a fabulous time. The resort is very big and was booked to capacity. There are 3 swimming pools one is very private,(I didnt realise it was there til a few days before we left) one is very deep but the other is perfect for kiddies and those not as confident at swimming. The water be's lovely and warm. You pay €100 on arrival for a deposit and once your room is vacated and not damaged you get back your €100. The snack bar is nice its situated between the pools although its very expensive to drink in €5.50 for a bottle of Magners/Bacardi Breezer so we preferred to head to some local bars for our drinks and food as there were lots of flies about which was very offputting. The rooms were basic, ours contained a double bed and 2 singles and kitchenette and small patio which suited our needs fine. They were cleaned every second day with new sheets, towels+bins changed as you cannot flush the toilet roll in Greece. Like I said the rooms are basic but us and the people we all met there were satisfied,it depends on how fussy you are. The town of Gouves is about a half hour walk away with the beach being about 15 mins away. Although be careful on the side roads as there are lunatic drivers over there and not just the Greeks I near got run over by an Irish guy on a moped ! There are some lovely places to eat in the town , and some nice shops for souvenirs. A taxi back to the Lyda costs approx €6. Also if you want to go into Heraklion or Hersonnassis there are buses at the end of the road that go frequently , its about a 15 min drive if even and is €2 or less! Overall I had a great time in Gouves and have no complaints, the place was clean and although a tad expensive overall I would definately go again !!
Stay away if looking for comfort

The Apartments are situated near a few beaches which was good & the food was reasonably good (light snacks etc...) & the staff ok. But my god the apartments were a shambles. They totally need a makeover from the tiny bathroom to the even smaller bedroom. We were a group of 4 ( 2 adults, 2 kids) cramped together in one bedroom which doubled as the whole apartment. In 14 years of sun hols these were the worst I've stayed in....& I'm not the fussy type....it also smelled ....& not sure what it was ?? When we asked could we be changed to another room we were told all apartments were full ....but when the bartender said the apartments were only 1/2 full as it was early in season!! Gouves is nice & quite do go there but DON'T stay here.
small and stuffy
from waterville
I stayed with my family of hubby, and kids in 2006 they were aged 14,10 &8 yrs at the time. the actual apartments were really terrible, smelly small and no facilities to speak of really. we had grey wooly old blankets for the beds , not a duvet in sight, not even a really light one. well it was so hot we thankfully didnt need to use tham. i perish the thought. the bahtroom must have been designed by toddlers, it was TINY. and the worst thing for me was that the TINY(notice a theme here!!)kitchen fridge opened literally onto the loo, they were that close, it was disgusting, also bearing in mind that you cant flush loo paper in greece so you have an over flowing bin nearly in the fridge. there were no tables or chairs in the apartment only plastic ones on the balcony, which brings me onto the exterior. thankfully we had no complaints here ,nice balcony 2nd floor overlooking the pool so we could watch the kids swim. the pool was cleaned regularly and was lovely, as was the location of the property. directly across the road from the beach, which was beautiful, but do BEWARE OF VERY STRONG WAVES AND UNDERCURRENTS. we found the staff to be truly the nicest people we have ever met, all the cretians are.the food was great buffet type meals every night, as much as you could eat of all sorts from salads to ribs to curries it was amazing and SOcheap, the 5 of us ate for approx 35euro.Crete was the lovliest place we visited Knossos and a boat trip to Dia island which was unforgettable. All in all i loved crete and the location, near the sea, and gouves it a really quiet little village, the twentysomethings and teens were no where to be found.
Worst holiday of my life!!
from EHMkm
Sadly from beginning to end this was the worst holiday (Honeymoon) of my life, booked through Thomas Cook, who passed it over to Budget Travel and specified this was our honeymoon, rep said this place was perfect for our honeymoon, man she must have been on something! when we arrived -very early morning AM, we had to que for an age to get our key and were directed downstairs.. we got room 109, I'l never forget it... it was more like a converted boiler room. it stank of damp and had a tiny window @15cm sq that was so high even my husband who's 6 foot couldn't see out of it! I cried for ages I was sooooo disappointed. I couldn't believe the hotel had given us such a [--] room... it was outrages. the fact that we immediately asked to be moved to another room and told reception it was our honeymoon seemed to make no difference, even though others were moved after complaining about their crap rooms. The Budget travel reps were'nt that helpful either, the que for the reps was so long with all complaining about the state of their accomodation, it was madness. We were so upset we moved to another Island, Santorini and stayed there for the week. when we got back on the fri reception told us they had a new room for us the next morn... the male receptionist was really nice and did his best to make sure we got a new lovely room. Only problem when we moved our stuff inc.shopping & champagne into the new room, we went out for a short while and when we got back all our shopping had been stolen by the cleaners... man this hotel just got worse by the day. food not the best in poolside snack bar, bar ok but didn't stay there much, spent most nights out & about at local restaurants who i must say entertained us each night... loved the locals and their food, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them but if your going stay at the other really fab hotels on the beach front. Gouves is a really quite place, beaches lovely and only handful of shops so Hersonissos best for shopping. Would never return to Lyda Beach apts... they ruined our honeymoon and won't ever go on reps recommendation ever again. All the other small things that annoyed us were - having to provide own toilet roll, desperate facilities in bathroom... disappointing staff (except male receptionist) and overall lack of facilities... Please do yourself a favour and book somewhere else...
Visited once...never again

Just returned from a week at Lyda Beach Hotel. Nice location beside the beach, excellent for walkers as there are long promenades all along the beachfront. Apartments are tiny and very poorly kitted out. Must have been designed with Pygmies in mind, espacially bathroom! Most of staff very nice except female day receptionist who when asked for a replacement toilet roll suggested that because toilet roll was provided in bathroom when we arrived that we would have to purchase replacements ourselves from nearby supermarket. Poor cuatomer service or what? Gouves is quiet but has good selection of shops restaurants etc. Bar and pool area in hotel tends to be quite noist late at night. Lost two nights sleep because of couple in adjoining apartment fighting and arguing most of one night and group of Irish drinkers shouting and swearing from when they got back to hotel at around 1Pm until they finally went to bed at around 5 am. Would not stay here again but would visit Gouves again.
Really enjoyed our one weeks all inclusive holiday at Club Lyda. It is a large, clean, quiet, well maintained site with 3 good swimming pools. We found the staff to be polite and hard working. We had two excellent rooms on the first floor with a pool view. The food was... more
