" Fantastic Holiday "

My wife and I have just arrived back from a one week break at the Ascos Beach Hotel, we found the hotel to be well maintained and very clean. The bedroom was perfect, but the bathroom was certainly due a re-vamp, the room was made up for us every day and towels were changed every day. 99.9% of the guests were British which made it easy when we came to make friends. The weather also helped as it was around 32 degrees most days. All the staff very friendly and polite, the service was spot on. The food was very good and they catered for all tastes with different themes each night. We found the entertainment just bearable and we often ventured out at night. The pool area was clean and tidy, no need to put bath towels down early as there was plenty of beds available. The area around hotel is well kept with all types of plants and flowers, only a short walk to the strip where there is an assortment of bars and shops to visit. Prices can vary from bar to bar the Euro has made certain bars expensive. The Coral Bay beach is well worth a visit and is approx 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel. This was the first adult only hotel that we've ever stayed at and we found it very peacefull, but we were told that children are being allowed back in next year, will need to think again if this is the case. We will certainly go back to this hotel if we get the chance. If you are a cat lover you will enjoy feeding the cats at breakfast.

Advice: Quite part of the island with everything that you need to make it a great holiday

Activities: We were all inclusive but there is a thriving strip just a short walk away from the hotel

Good for: Beach

" well worth it "

We have just arrived back from two weeks at the Ascos, totally relaxed, what a fab time we had we almost didnt go after reading all the reviews before we went, how glad we are that we gave it a chance. Hotel is beautiful and very clean, all staff very friendly and polite.food not bad something for everyone what ever their taste.Entertainment needs to be looked at out of 14 nights we only liked 3 when Elvis.Jerry and Mat Edmunds were on.They had a boy and girl singing duo with dancers they need to get rid of he sang(if you can call it that)way of key and out of tune.Pool Bar staff superb(especially Millivan)cant do enough for you, pool area is clean and tidy and no need to put bath towels down early as lots of them.Area around hotel is well kept with all types of plants and flowers.only a short walk to the strip where there is an assortment of bars and shops to visit.Prices can vary from bar to bar Euro has made it very expensive.
We recommend that you go on the Sunset Cruise(52 euros each but well worth it)also the monestary. We will definitely be going back there again but only if it stays as Adults only and no children as ther were rumours going around that children would be allowed as from next year.
P.S. Please feed the cats at Breakfast there is only a few but the one has three kittens she needs to feed, you can see them under the bush at the back of the pool they are lovely.

" Great food needs a bedroom refurb. "

Myself and my fiance have just returned from the Ascos. Reception was lovely though you could see it needed a little updating. Our room was a bit of a let dowm, very basic and our limited sea view was over a little bit of sea and a bit of a building site and there was an awfall smell of sewage which even on that first evening made it impossible for us to sit on our balcony. However the next day our First Choice rep arranged for us to move to the other side of the hotel where we then enjoyed fantsastic views over the sea and Coral Bay the room was still basic but a lot bigger and we were happy with it though the only niggle would be that the air con was not very good and in 40c temps it was quite uncomfortable at times and we found out through talking to other guests that this was through the hotel.
The pool area was great with lovely kept gardens and the tempreture of the water was lovely to just dip in and out of.
The entertaimment was good some nights and not others but generally we really enjoyed it though we did walk up to the Coral Bay bars on a couple of nights which were great.
Th 100% best part of our holiday was without a doubt the food, it was varied, fresh, well pepared and delicious especially lunch and dinner. I have never been all inclusive before though my partner had and after reading reviews I was concerned I would hate it as normally I prefer eating in different restaurants but it was wonderfull .My partner said it was by far the best AI food he has ever had. On the whole we had a great holiday and would go back though the itsa little tired and in need of an update and the air con being updated so it does not deserve it's 4* rating but a bloody good 3*.

Advice: great location

" dead pool "

my partner and i arrived at the ascos on the 1st of april 2009. at first glance we thought that this was going to be a lovely hotel, but it was soon to be a major disappointment. when we went to our room to settle my girlfriend went to take a shower but there was no hot water,we were told it was because everyone in the hotel was taking a shower at the same time.the evenings entertainment for the 2wks was the same,a parrot show, and some poor singing and dance routines. the outdooor pool could not be used because of the water tanks being changed it was just a building site. the last 5 days was when they started to fill the pool and told us it was safe to use.but with no pumps working the water became stagnant, so there ended up with scum floating on the top, health an safety would have had a feild day there.when we asked our rep about the indoor pool being cleanedand heated she asked the manager and was told "what do they want that 1 for they have 1 outside" albeit with no water" she replied "because that is what they have paid for". the food wasnt to bad,the staff were friendly and polite, but if it wasnt for some of the guests that we met there that was as fed up as we were it would have been the holiday from hell

" First Time in Cyprus "

My wife and myself have just returned from the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel. With my wife having serious mobility problems and illnesses we have to select our holiday hotels very carefully, having asked a lot of questions on various review site forums we decided this hotel would be a good choice easy access inside and out, toilet facilities in the pool area .We arranged for a room close to a lift for ease of getting to restaurants and the pool and gardens. We duly arrived and realised very quickly that there was a major refurbishment taking place internaly and externaly, there where decorators everywere even walking into bedrooms unanounced to paint balconies. They where also using spirit based gloss paint the fumes in the coridors was awful ,we had to put up with constant drilling as they ripping all the floor tiles up on the service area floor and by the indoor pool and poolside toilets, the sound of hammering was incessant we thought they where digging an escape tunnel to Nicosia.Health and Safety was non existant they where lifting painters up to 4 storeys high in a cage on the end of a cherry picker to paint the outside walls of the hotel no safety equipment at all,on another occasion they poured acid over tiles in the indoor pool area the fumes where toxic to say the least they did not close this area off and some guests walked through this area to get to a toilet and the gym.So all in all our research on this hotel had been to no avail. This disruption and more, including tiles being cut at 2and3 am 20 feet away from our balcony lasted the entire 2 weeks of our stay. The manager gave all guests a bottle of wine and a couple of pieces of fruit to appologies for the inconvience, then offered us a late check out worth 35 euros if we signed a disclaimer to say we would not make any claim for compensation, against the hotel, you can immagine how many signed.
Having said all that the hotel is great the bedrooms and bathrooms are a little tired but the public area more than make up for this by being fresh spacious and well furnished .The two restaurants are both very comfortable and the choice of food is excellent and the quality superb, the majority of the staff are wonderful .
Val on reception brilliant.
Restaurant Manager couldn't do enough for us .
Waiting staff so polite George was a star.
Bar Staff Zuzanna watch this girl work she never stops.
So would we go back ?
YES next year without a doubt ( There will be no work carried out so we will be able to enjoy this Rugrat free zone as we had hopped to do this year)

Advice: Lovely area , the beach outside Coralia beach hotel great, lots of bars restarants and clubs.

Activities: Paphos is well worth the 1.5 euro bus fare .

" Brilliant "

After reading the last few reviews was very worried about going on our holiday, but when we arrived it was far from what people had said pool was lovely, food was excellent, everyone was friendly, entertainment was brilliant couldn't of asked for a better holiday. We went through to Paphos a couple of times, in the day take a bus only 1.50 where ever you want to go, on a evening you are looking at paying about 30.00 in a taxi. Would definatley return.

" Outstanding pool, quiet location "

After reading previous reviews on this hotel I was very apprehensive about going to this hotel, all to no avail, it was absolutely fine! I'll try and be brief and summarise as follows:
Staff - Excellent attitude, very efficient and friendly. Val on reception was english and brilliant, and also the manageress who tried to get us an upgraded room and tried her absolute best but was held back by her own boss. All very hardworking. Cleaners came every day and cleaned, again, friendly and efficient.
Food - Fantastic! I can only think the people who complain of the food being repetitive is because they're there for 2 weeks and I suppose anything would be repetitive if you went out all the time for 2 weeks. There was always a good selection of choices to suit everyone - examples include:
Soup (oxtail, chicken, pea, ministrone)
Meat - carvery with roast beef, roast lamb, roast turkey, roast pork, beef stifado, chicken, curry, fish
Salad - every type of salad you can think of! Potato, rice, beetroot, standard, tomoatoes, cucumber.
Veg - veg to suit the meat of the evening, even got sprouts one night! Cauliflower, peas, brocolli, etc and gravy.
Puddings - jelly, gateaux (choc and strawberry), traditional eg bread and butter pudding, apple pie/crumble, sponge and custard, ice cream, masses of choice
Then always a selection of cheese and crackers
How can anyone complain about those choices???!!
That was for dinner - breakfast was again excellent - all sorts of breads and cakes (even jam and iced doughnuts!) Your usual cooked stuff - baked beans, bacon, fried eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, potatoes etc, as well as all your cereals, toast, and fruit.
We only had lunch on our last day as we were half board and it was pizza with lots of salad choices and pork with potatoes and veg and gravy.
Surprisingly I didn't put any weight on though!
Pool - pool was the best pool I've ever been to. It was massive and a really big area, well suited to the size of the hotel. Only problem was the water was absolutely freezing!
Rooms - the room I must admit was the one thing that let the holiday down. There was nothing wrong with it as such, it was just a bit dated. It was big enough for the two of us, but only had a tiny balcony. We had a side sea view which was quite a nice view. It was clean though so that's all I was bothered about and at the end of the day it's only a base. There was a fridge which you paid 13 euros for and a safe which was about 13 euros too, but if you're all inclusive you get the fridge money back.
Location - within walking distance to Coral Bay beach and close to bus stops which take you to Paphos which is about a 20 minute ride away for 1.5 euros. Close to the small choice of bars and restaurants.
Entertainment - there was hotel entertainment during the day and evening by a young 20 year old - Dan. He was brilliant, he got involved in all the usual - water polo, french bowls, killer darts etc and single handedly did the evening entertainment - bingo every night as well as a quiz and a Mr and Mrs Ascos night. There were a couple of outside entertainers in which were OK - line dancing, but one act was brilliant - a gay singer/comedian! He was only there for 2 weeks and as we left he was introducing the new entertainer who again, was a single bloke, a bit older but without so much charm.
Age range - average age range of the hotel was about 45/50. I'm 41 and my husband is 40 and we felt we were around the younger end of the scale! There were a few younger groups, but mainly the older generation, but they were all very friendly.
Drinks - we went half board and were definitely in the minority. Would recommend All Inclusive as the drinks prices were extortionate - half a coke was 2.40 euros!
The hotel is in Coral Bay which is a very small resort. I wouldn't say the beach was anything special, it was only about 15 minutes walk away but wasn't particulary clean, it was nicer to stay by the pool.
There was a selection of bars and shops and supermarkets 5 minutes walk away and a bus journey took you about 20 minuts to Paphos itself.
Paphos was OK, the harbour was where the main hubbub was with bars and shops and restaurants, but in some ways it was a bit like Blackpool!
The weather was brilliant – 2 mornings when it rained, but then soon cleared up to sunshine and the rest of the time lovely and hot and sunny all the time.
I wouldn't visit this resort or hotel again. Nothing particularly wrong with it, just would rather try somewhere else.

Advice: Very small area, quiet in April

" Building site "

Booked a Anniversary holiday for myself and husband for the 25th March, one week all inclusive so that we could chill out and relax. No such luck!!! Empty pool, JCB digger jack hammering the pool terrace area to take out old water tanks. We were not informed by our rep or the hotel staff when we arrived, so you can imagin the shock when we woke up to this the next morning. When asked at reception were told it was minor repairs that would only take a day or two. Found out from other quest that the pool had been emptied on the previous Saturday night and the pool had been completly empty since Sunday. Our rep meeting assured us it would only be a day or to more, then she disapeared off the face of the earth and we had a different rep arrive the day before we were due to leave and was of no help what so ever. She did however addmit that this was planned maintainace to make the pool more eco friendly. Then offered £10 per day per person for the inconvienance which we refused and then had the nerve to offer us to use the facilities of another hotel pools area for the price of 17 euros a day per person. The indoor pool was terrible tiles falling off the ceiling bare wires hanging down also. Jacuzzi a complete health hazad. This was a holiday from Hell

Advice: Do not go

" 24 hours of nightmare "

Arrived on 1st April for a weeks all inclusive stay. The brochure pictures looked lovely. Reception area very pleasant. Thought it must be an April fools joke when we heard there was no water in the pool and hadn't been any for over a week.
There was building work going on all over the grounds. A grassed/steps area lead to a small but dirty beach area.
Inside pool area had tiles falling off the ceiling. The jaccuzi looked as if everyone had peed in it and had a film of grease on the water, a health hazard for all. we were moved within 24 hours to a beautiful hotel. we were also told this hotel had to be closed four years ago due to other health problems.

" Good value "

Nice clean hotel, lovely pool, good food, nice staff.
Not as nice as other hotels on the island that has the same star rating but it was far cheaper so this i to be expected.
It has sea views but the sea at the end of the hotel grounds does not have a proper beach & it is difficult & a bit dangerous to swim in the sea near the hotel, best to walk or get the bus to coral beach just up the road.
Overall we were very pleased with the hotel & feel we got good value for money.

Advice: Not much to do in coral bay but Paphos is a worth a look especially the market

Activities: The market was really good

" Very Poor "

This is NOT in any way a 4star. The person who hands out the ratings needs sacking.!!
Ill start with the good points:
1 - The reception and bar staff are first class.
2 - Err? ok the pool and reception looks nice, so thats 2!
Bad points
1 - Overall the hotel needs a face lift.
2 - Only 1 lift working and that brokedown for a day, so the customers who were in wheel chairs could not go to breakfast or dinner as in was on the lowest floor!
3 - Rooms, air con only blowed hot or hotter, only half the lights worked, the room was not cleaned very well at all I believe the maid only made the beds.
4 - The food is the same each day, the lable on the door is the only major change each day. It all looks unappeitising and tastes as bland as it looks, there is the same salad/friut bar on at breakfast, dinner and tea.
5 - Again the food, there was no fresh veg, all tasted like it was fresh out of a tin! all soups, pastas, sauce, gravy etc.. were very runny and watered down. so were all the fruit juices, which all tasted like very weak cordial squash. We went all inclusive but were not allowed to take drinks in at any meal times and were only allowed to order 1 drink each at the table. We were forced to eat out.
6 - We ventured down to the 'hotel beach' all i can say is dont. there is no access to the se and the rocky 'beach' is a tip, it looks as if the hotel and local villas use it as a dump site!
the list could go on.

" Don't Go! "

A very tired poorly run hotel, more of a shabby 2 star than a 4 star! Bedrooms were dirty, not cleaned well. Hygene poor. Food boring and repetetive. Gastroenteritis was rife. Restaurant staff were surly. At weekends, the hotel hosted trips from cypriot schools, whose children ran amok throughout the hotel. At night, they were noisy, rampaging through corridors, uncontrolled and unsupervised by teaching and hotel staff. Noise and disturbance carried on throughout the Friday and Saturday nights untill 3.00am before one could get to sleep. The entertainment programme was poor and repetetive, more of a working man's club! Smoking permitted within the bar and enterainment areas. No infrastructure locally so it was difficult or impossible to go for walks. The hotel grounds went down to what was supposed to be a beech, but was in fact just a pile of pebbles and stones. The whole area was covered in litter and old building materials. Coral beech itself was filthy! An extremely dissapointing 4 weeks when much more was expected from information provided within brochures and from travel agents themselves.
So glad to be home.

Advice: Don't bother to go, try somewhere else.

" dont believe what you read "

just come back after spending two weeks in ascos beach hotel, like everyone else i read about other peoples comments they left and what they rated it, and may i say never believe other peoples reviews, before actually going we where going to cancel it but thought we may aswell find out areselves, we arrived at the hotel and where greeted my the staff at the desk, very helpfull and easy to talk to. with reading someones review to find they discover cockaroaches in the bedroom i may add i didnt see one at all in the whole 2 weeks we where there. the bedrooms where cleaned everday, lots of space if you where sleeping up to 3 people like we did, (parents had there own room) when going for breakfast/lunch/dinner we where met at the door and where waited to be seated by plesant and polite staff who would seat us at a table. the waiters where very friendly and nice, bar staff where fantastic couldnt ask for anything better. whole two weeks we where there weather was lovely. if you needed help some one from the desk would be more than happy to help you what ever the matter. entertainment was always fun with the entertainer (Karl)i would highly say this is a good hotel to go for a short brake or longer either way im sure you would enjoy it just like we did :)
