Comments:  Having read a few negative reviews previously I was very pleasantly surprised by the Ascos when staying there last week.

The food was a real highlight, with ample, well-prepared dishes available all day (hot and cold), served by extremely hard-working and polite staff. There wasn't much in the way of Greek/Cypriot cuisine on the menu, but what was on offer was always well presented. And if you wanted to take the odd meal away from the hotel, there were numerous restaurants within walking distance offering all types of food.

The all-inclusive nature of the stay was really welcome while sitting around the pool (which is really large and warm), as soft drinks (including bottled water) and all alcoholic drinks were available from 9am onwards. One gripe would be that only one person was served at a time at the pool bar, which tended to create a queue throughout most of the day.

The pool area, and the hotel in general to be honest, really benefited from the 'no children' rule at this time of year. It was noticeably more peaceful than other hotels and as such was preferable to the local beach (about 20-30 minute walk away) which I felt was overcrowded with (mostly unused) sun beds and discarded cigarette ends.

The room in the hotel was perfectly adequate for our needs - nothing special, but comfortable, clean and with very good air-conditioning. All the staff - cleaners, reception staff etc - were very friendly.

To be honest, the only really big criticism that I would have of the Ascos - and it would probably be the one thing that would persuade us to look elsewhere next year - is that the entertainment is in a completely different league to all the hotel's other features... and not in a good way. Essentially, if you wish to sit outside in the evening and have a drink, you have no choice but to expose yourself to the woefully poor singing and charismaless bingo sessions of what are laughingly called Premier Entertainment. Imagine being forced to sit through one long school production, with the occasional break for a smutty party game and you'll have some idea of how bad it was. The irony was that the general consensus among the guests seemed to be that having no evening entertainment would have been a real improvement on what was offered, and would have cost the hotel significanlty less to arrange.

Comments:  We loved our holiday to the Ascos. Some reviews seem far too harsh.
The pool is one of the best I have been in!
The food selection in the restaurants is designed to please all customers! All well cooked!! The only criticism would be that the hotel staff removed your plate far too quickly after the meal.

Great selection of facilities include the tennis court, table tennis, pool, pool bar, restaurant, internet access, dart board, pool table.

Evening entertainment was repetitive and certainly not the the hotel's best point!

Hotel staff were polite and attentive. Reception staff were really helpful in arranging taxi's, tours, courtesy room.

The hotel inside was well furnished, although it could do with a lick of paint however, those people who spend their time inside the hotel when it is hot outside must need their heads examining!

Great location as just minutes walk to the Coral Bay bars and restaurants. 15 minutes walk to main beach. 20 mins on bus to Paphos.

It is a 4 star hotel and deserves it. The holiday was fantastic!

Comments:  Rooms were very clean and comfortable.
Staff, apart from the management were very helpful and polite.
Food was varied and plenty of choice, but not very traditional.
Lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Anyone thinking of holidaying here remember to take long trousers to conform to the dress code for the dining room - this is what our tour operator didn`t tell us and caused major problems, upset, and several arguements - the only downside to what could of been the perfect weeks break.

Comments:  During our stay at this 2* hotel we encountered an infestaton of ants within the bathroom, dinning rooms and pool area. While eating our evening meal we were invaded by a colony of ants which roamed over the tables and walls.
The rooms that we were allocated were very very unclean. The bedding was changed once in the fortnight. The patio doors did not open and some of our possessions were locked out on the balcony, once the maintenance (children) had been the patio door would no longer close therefore the air conditioning turned itself off. The maids are pleasent however when you are leaving they hover until you leave them a tip.
The pool area was overall very good however during our time the bridge was out of order. On several occasions many guests when walking into the pool fell down the steps due to the lack of maintenance on the pool steps. During our time we witnessed the maintenance crew attempt to clean the drains around the pool, when the equipment failed to work they packed it up and put it away?
The entertainment was ridiculous! Bingo does not constitute as entertainment for 14 nights of a 14 night stay.
The only good memory we have of this holiday are the lovely waiters & waitresses They are very helpful, happy and polite!
The holiday was not value for money! If anything the holiday was very over priced!
The hotel is desperate for a refurbishment to bring it into the 21st century! The hotel manager has a foul mouth in which he tends to annouce his feelings towards his staff infront of guests!
I recommend that you do not stay at this hotel, chose another one in coral bay as it is a lovely place to visit.

Comments:  Overall the reception, dining rooms and pool were of a good standard, however the rooms we were allocated were dirty, the carpet had cigarette burns and iron marks all over it. The maids hoovered the rooms once in the 14 days we were there. Bathrooms were tiny and unclean. Overall the rooms were very basic for a recommnded 4* hotel.
Meals were nice, with a great range of food to choose from however the food was very repetitive as many of the dishes were served for lunch and dinner. During our time at the hotel the rules about dress code for the dinning room changed on our 10th night, meaning that we had to find dinner elsewhere in coral bay. We were turned away at the dinning room door for wearing sandles however when we went back later to talk to the dinning room manager we found that several people had been allowed in wearing short skirts and flip flops. When we took this matter up with the reception the lady behind the desk refused to help as she stated that it had nothing to do with her.
The entertainment was awful! Bingo everynight of the 14 day holiday! Entertainment that was shown on the first week was shown again the following week.
Waiters & Waitresses were excellent throughout the holiday, polite and helpful. However the manager took it upon himself to openly swear (in english) and belittle the staff infront of many of the guests. The manager often sat with the entertainment staff after the show drinking till the early hours, on a few occasions the manager was seen throwing up in the mens toilets!
Overall this was an average very expensive holiday! The hotel is nothing like a 4* hotel and thomas cook should rethink their staring policy. I will not be recommending this hotel to friends!

Comments:  We Got Married in Cyprus while staying at the Ascos.

We really enjoyed our stay, some of the ratings are over the top.. and you know there is just not pleasing some people !

The Pool is lovely... enjoyed that..

The Staff are friendly and very helpful..

The Food was fine... I don't know how people can expect food for a king when you go all inclusive.. it is what you would expect really... We ate out alot, but only because it was our honeymoon too, and wanted posh restaraunts.

The only little thing which wasn't great, was the entertainment.
Bless them, they tried so hard..

Because it was adults only, there was a mix of young couples and very old people !

You can't please everyone, so you just go with it and make your holiday good fun !

This meant Bingo and Tradtional dancing was good for them.. we had to make our own entertainment !

The entertainment wasn't good for us, as we are only 25 and 27

The Manager Chris, was a lovely guy, sat and drank with us, and couldn't do enough to help us, even left wine and fruit in our room etc.

All in all... the holiday was great !!!!. just the entertainment was more for the older generation... I prefer Karaoke and a disco.

Coral Bay itself, is lovely, the hotel is in a perfect location, right on the beach, just out of the way enough, but 5 mins round the corner to the strip of bars and restaraunts.

If you do go out for something to eat, go to a restaraunt called the Elephant.
This is at the end of the strip, just before the beach.

The food is out of this world, the nicest place to eat too ... I couldn't believe the meals ( we went back ! )

I would reccommend this hotel to anybody... lovely lovely holiday

Comments:  We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel.

The maids work very hard to keep the place clean. Overall friendly staff.

Food was good. There was lots to choose from to suit everybody.

Entertainment was great. Michelle,Ashlea,Nicola and Sarah worked very hard, first class.Plenty of activities during the day to take part in, and good shows of a night.

Rooms were nice. Towels changed and clean. There were fridges and safes in the rooms.

Been there for the last 2 years, going back again next year.

Comments:  we had an amazing holiday there the staff were all really helpful. the pool was lovely and enough space for everyone. food excellent. the only complaint we have is the entertainment.... it is shocking!!! that michelle girl and m8s are pathetic they cant do anything good the place definitly needs better people for entertaining. bingo sucks and is the most boring thing ever! and watching a bunch of girls dancing most nights bores the hell out of most people. if the hotel had different people for entertaining i would definitly giv it a 10/10 everyhting els was amazing.great for couples.

Comments:  We have just come back from staying at the Ascos Beach Hotel.
What a fantastic Holiday. The Staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful and so friendly. The food was absolutely fantastic the chefs were very attentive and very approachable and they always made sure the food was always filled up when running low. The Hotel decor does need to be updated, but having said that the rooms were always cleaned on a daily basis and very comfortable.
The entertainment is the only thing that lets this hotel down, it was very boring, and to be honest the entertainment staff were quite snobby and rude on some occasions.

I would certainly be going back to the Ascos Beach Hotel next year

Comments:  Having read some of the reviews we were rather nervous about staying here, we need not have worried. Some reviewers state that this is not a 4star hotel compared to other parts of the world, but then we weren't in other parts of the world! I have stayed in better hotels, however, I have paid a lot more money to do so. In our room we had everything we needed, it was exactly as it looked in the brochure in fact. People have said that the hotel rooms are 'shabby', to be honest, our bathroom door needed painting - but we didn't spend much time looking at that! In fact we only went into our room to sleep because we were having a great time. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful and although the same dishes appeared regularly, because there was such a wide choice it was very easy to have a different meal each time. The entertainment was great fun. It was the hotel's entertainment staff most of the time, there were also some other acts who were also entertaining. There was bingo every night, I had thought we'd give this a miss. However, by the third night we were playing and it was a lot of fun. There was also a nightly quiz, again fun - but you don't have to play if it's not your thing! I'm not sure what those reviewers who say the entertainment wasn't good enough were expecting.
We enjoyed the hotel's pools both indoor and out, although being April the outdoor one was a bit chilly. There is a beautiful sandy beach five minutes walk from the hotel. We also hired a car to explore for a couple of days (the local car hire places are considerably cheaper and just as safe and reliable as the one recommended by reps). Other people at the hotel had not left the site at all and they too had a great time.
We went before the adult only deadline with our 18 month old son, he had a great time too and we will definately go back. So, if you've already booked and are now wishing you hadn't, relax you'll have a great time!!

Comments:  A very friendly hotel where all the staff went the extra mile to make sure that our stay was enjoyable, The ladies who cleaned the room daily were efficient. The waiters and waitresses who provided our table service worked continuously to keep the tables free of crockery and glasswear, nothing was too much trouble for them. The Chefs provided an excellent menu for all meals on every day, their food was superb and again all members of staff were more than happy to help in any way. The hotel Manager made a point of asking us how we enjoyed our holiday and listened to our comments, again a very friendly and approachable person. Last but not least, Joy and the cabin crew, to and from cyprus were excellent, worked tirelessly to keep all passengers happy and comfortable, a credit to the company.
It was a lovely holiday and I will be going back, Keep up the fantastic good work.

Comments:  We have just got back from a holiday at The Ascos Coral Bay Hotel. I must admit when I read the reviews on the internet I did want to cancel my holiday. I am writing as honest a review as possible for other possible guests to under stand where I am coming from: -

BAD POINTS
This hotel is very dated and in need of some updating in certain areas this is what I noticed: -

1) Bedrooms need urgent updating
2) Paint and plaster is coming off the walls in various locations of the hotel
3) Bathroom tiles are cracked, no ventilation as it was broke, bathrooms looking dated
4) Really uncomfortable beds
5) Entertainment was not too good you do play bingo everynight then followed by (Premier Entertainments Michelle and Nicola singing and dancing) They did try their best though so 10 out of 10 for effort.
6) The pool area was not maintained properly the vents round the pool where broken which resulted in a 2 year old boy fallening down the grate and hurting his leg. Some of the tiles in the pool are chipped and cracked and are in need of replacing, the ladders into the pool are loose and rusty and need to be maintained properly, the rail to the childs pool is loose.
7) Public stair areas where not cleaned prpoerly the stair area to the rooms had half eaten bits of food there for 1 week just left by the stairs. The stairs to the breakfast room had rails that were lose.
8) The staff are paid appaling LOW wages for the amount of work that they do at this hotel.

GOOD POINTS
1) Staff extremely well mannered and friendly, they are mainly from different parts of the EU and nothing is too much trouble for them.
2) Room was cleaned every day to a good standard and bed linen and towels are changed every 3 days.
3) Variety of food at lunch and dinner was excellent.
4) Lovely poolside terrace with large swimming pool (It's just a shame they don't maintain it properly)
5) Gardens around the pool terrace lovely however the maintenance team need to tidy the bottom end towards the sea.
6) Lovely view of sea and Coral Bay from the hotel.
7) Very relaxing holiday ideal for just sun bathing by the pool.
8) Good walking distance to a street full of bars, restaurants and some shops.

Most of the british people whom were staying there all agreed most of the points I am listing above. It makes me wonder how long ago First Choice actually inspected this hotel to see if it still warranted 4*'s because currently if it continues to let this hotel go downhill then they should star it appropriately when they sell it as 3*. When you check in the reception is tidy and lovely and this can be very deceiving when you walk in because this area looks nice. The hotel was built in 1996 and I do not believe anything has been done to it since it opened.

This hotel was full of elderly people when we stayed infact I think we were the youngest there at some point. A lot of regulars whom go to the hotel often will not have a bad word to say against the hotel and tell you to ignore what has been put on the internet which is fair enough but THEY REALLY HAVE TO BE HONEST BECAUSE THE HOTEL IS TIRED. If the hotel was to spend some of all the money they make on updating the hotel and get it back up to scratch then I think a lot more people like myself would be happy to return when this work has been completed. Also it would be nice to see the staff get a pay rise and not be exploited for cheap labour.

WE HAVE COMPLETED A QUESTIONAIRE AT THE HOTEL TO ADVISE THEM OF THE PROBLEMS. WE ALSO COMPLETED THE FIRST CHOICE HOLIDAY QUESTIONAIRE HANDED TO US ON THE PLANE HOWEVER WE ARE NOT SURE IF THE FEED BACK WILL GET TO FIRST CHOICE MANAGEMENT TEAM BECAUSE ON THE FLIGHT HOME WE CAUGHT THE FIRST CHOICE CABIN CREW THROWING SOME COMPLETED QUESTIONAIRES AWAY.

Comments:  We have just returned from Ascos Beach. It was wonderful. It is in need of a facelift but the rooms were tended every day. The staff were very friendly which I have found very typical of Cyprus in general. The pool area was beautiful and clean and the gardens are very pretty. The food was amazing, I don't know how they produce so much especially salads yummy! I would go back again. Although the beach at the hotel is very pebbly (large pebbles) Coral Bay beach (sandy) is only 10 minute walk away and it was lovely. Even though we went out of season (March) the majority of the bars and restaurants were open and very friendly.

Comments:  The rooms are dirty, the carpets are stinky, they don't hoover at all, the bathrooms are disgusting and dirty as well. They don't clean anything properly, mostly the older cyprian women, who always complain, that they cannot work. The boss of the housekeepers does not do his job properly, because he has no clue how to do it - as well, as his deputy, who is his sister. They don't check the rooms, they just have fun all day long in the hotel area. She can afford it, because she is a friend of the owner's wife. The manager of the hotel can tell them anything, they just make fun of him behind his back. This is a very dirty hotel, where the cleaner dictates to the manager..
