Best holiday to date

Returned in august 2011, i must say what a great place, had never been to corfu before and had booked this on a spur of the moment, but had a great time, rooms are clean and have everything you need, areas around the appartments are well kept. Family run buisness and nothing was a problem you we were made to feel very welcome,Beaches around a 5-10 min walk, loads of bars and resturants all local to the appartments, demitris's resturant was great food lovely and again a warm welcome at each visit,
Met some great people here would certainly go back,

  • Advice: If you want a quite chilled holiday this is the place, has all amenities around and bars and clubs in the town.

Best Holiday Ever We'll Be Back

these apartments are first class and have that personal touch that all other apartments we have stayed in lacked.
we had a 2 bedroom apartment which had 2 toilets/handbasins and one had a shower.
the living area was extra large as were the bedrooms. all windows had looking shutters as had the patio doors. the patio doors also had sliding net doors to keep out the few flying insects we saw.
towels and bedding were changed 3 times weekly when apartments were cleaned. they were cleaned spotlessly, a credit to the cleaners.
the pool water was changed regularly and kept crystal clear at all times. the surrounding grounds, around pool, staircases and sunbeds were always washed kept clean.
the holiday would not have been the same without the friendlines and caring attidute of lakis, papa, the cleaners and the night porter.
lakis, who owns the apartment attended the welcome meeting with our excellent rep andy. both were always available to us if we needed them.
i have stayed in many places, in manyvery good apartment complexes but have never stay in anywhere as good as here.
lakis owns phevos restaurant which is about 500 - 600 metres up the strip.
the same high standard is upheld here with the help of andreas and nikos. both the food and atmosphere is unbeatable

Just returned from the Antigoni, had a great stay. Apartments are basic but a good size and cleaned every other day. The apartments are run by Lakis and and Spiros and they made us feel really welcome, as did Demitris who runs the apartment and restaurant next door.
Places to eat: Good English breakfast at Tiffanys on the prom. Phevos ( lakis restaurant) is great food and service and antigoni guests get discounts. There are plenty of other tavernas to eat in too.
Places to see: corfu palace is beautiful and there are many resorts on the island worth a visit. Boat hire is around 70 euro for the day and is a great way to explore quiet beaches and swim in peace.
Overall really good and will return to the antigoni, my only advice is not to go in August. This is when the Italians visit the resort for 1 month. They have zero manners, speed around on scooters (1000s of them) and party all night with no regards for anyone around them.
Already looking at booking for next year.

We were met on stairs by Lakis the owner who had attended college in the area we live in Edinburgh and so we had a lot to talk about! He thanked us for staying 2 weeks which has never happened anywhere before so again we felt valued! Booking in was very informal and mainly happened the next day! Lakis's restaurant was fantastic (10% discount to Antigoni guests) and we were made to feel like old friends. The whole holiday felt like we were staying with family and friends and quite a few of the other guests were repeat bookings. The rooms were basic and clean which was all that we required. Lakis and Andy's FREE Monday morning mountain climb to Saint Marcos was excellent and I attended twice. It was more of a slow ramble! Pirgi and Ipsos were clean and the residents friendly and helpful. We will certainly be back next year.

Just got back last night, me, my husband and three kids and one of our daughters friends. We have had the best holiday of our lives.
The rooms are basic - yes. But it's such a lovely place you'll hardly be in your room anyway.
Dimitris and Joanna are great fun and their girls are very friendly. Grandpa and Lakis at the apartments are so hospitable it's unbelievable. Grandpa had a gift for our kids most days and even a bottle of wine for us. One of his gifts was a cucumber ??? I think he grew them in the garden.
Joanna is a great cook and often brought us some of her specialities as we sat at the bar, (ask for her toast with paprika, oregano and olive oil. Awesome!!
Dimitris is hysterical and his laugh is mental.
Our kids cried when we left and so did Grandpa and Dimitris. They stood and waved everyone off on the bus back to the airport. Never seen that before. They even gave us a bag of fresh croissants so we didn't get ripped off at the airport.
This was our third visit to Corfu and we will definitely go again, and the only place to stay is Antigoni or one of Dimitris and Joannas rooms at Pyrgi place. I have never seen anyone work as hard as Dimitris, 9 am until 1 am 7 days a week so if he is occasionally a little slow to serve at the bar who could blame him!!!
Thanks for a great time, see you next Easter!!

My girlfriend and i mostly stay up above in andreas studios near antigoni apartments. But we always get our breakfast and evening meals in Dimitri and Jonna,s resturant and the food and there friendlyness is always absolutely fantastic. We have known Dimitri and Jonna for many years and they are very helpful and go out of there way to make your holiday enjoyable. We would highly recomend this place to everyone going to Corfu.

I'm just back from Ipsos, myself and 4 four friends stayed in Antigoni and we LOVED it.. The family are so friendly and are great for info about the area. They looked after us while we were there and the other people staying in Antigoni felt the same. We were sad to leave on our last day and i have to say I would return in the future to see Papa, Lakos and Dimitri again!!

Don't stay at the Antigoni Apartments

We have just returned from the Antigoni Apartments in Paxos, and we were so extremely disappointed, with the accommodation, and all that it offered in Spirit of Greece' misleading info and prices. The photos that they use are obviously from quite a while ago, as there were no "yellow" sunbeds, they are now blue, and the only two umbrellas that were available? were both broken. Whilst we were there, the pool was not cleaned once, and I can provide ample photographic evidence to back up everything that I write about in this email. If Health and Safety had arrived at the pool, and tried to get into it? using the ladder provided? they would have banned it immediately, as it was "live", and by that, I mean it felt like at any minute, it would break away, from whatever it was that was just holding it in place, and fall into the pool itself. There was a definite movement of at least 3 inches, so not safe at all.
Let me start from the beginning, all the connections worked well, and we were duly met at the airport by the cheerful agent, employed by Spirit of Greece, or whatever your arrangement is? We were taken by taxi to the apartment, and when we arrived, the owners were still inside, and appeared to be still cleaning up? We said very cheery hello's and they left us alone. We first noticed the terribly stained carpets / mats? and then looked at the beds, that had clean linen on, but the towels were threadbare and looked about 30 years old. On my inspection of the bathroom??? It is probably the wrong word to use, but the shower curtain was very badly stained all around the bottom, and the antiquated hand held shower was exactly that. No attachment that you could stand under, just a very old hand held shower and so small. It all looked very tired, and in need of a complete overhaul, and the toilet did not flush, and the interior of the toilet, really needed a good bleaching, so it was not nice at all. One of the bulbs by the side of the bathroom mirror, was not working and I started to get a bad feeling about it all.
As the owners were still in the vicinity, I called them to sort out the toilet, which they did, and then they left. They had placed a welcome loaf on a bread board as a welcoming gesture plus orange juice, bottle of red wine?? and a carton of milk. I phoned the rep straight away, to tell her about the towel situation, mats etc, and she said that she would be up to check it all, but she did not arrive. We took the pillow cases off the pillows just to check, and our worst ears were confirmed, there were stains all over the casings, and again these were so so old. No pillow protectors here, and these things should all be in place, as you really should look forward to a nice shower in a clean environment, but the curtain and towels did not fill me with any desire at all, it made you feel yucky and unclean. All the plumbing had to be turned off nightly by the mains, to prevent a continual dripping sound from occurring throughout the night, and easily preventing a sound sleep, as it really is so quiet there, which is brilliant, and exactly what we were looking for, but the dripping could have driven you crazy, especially if you were not aware, or able to deal with the appliances.
I went to use the bread, and there were tiny ants all milling around it, and inside it so straight away I threw it outside onto the balcony. When the owner came back she found the bread etc outside, and started howling at me in Greek, and through sign language told me that I should have put it in the bread bin provided above the fridge. I held my hands up and said ok. I went down to the bakers to buy bread and on the nighttime I wrapped the remaining loaf in two polythene bags, and placed it into the bread bin on top of the fridge like she said. In the morning I unwrapped the bread and to my amazement it was infested with ants, and on inspection of the bread bin, It confirmed to me that that was indeed where they had come from, so that got thrown out straight away onto the balcony along with the bread board. They arrived that morning and she started remonstrating about the bread bin, and I told her it was infested, and I did not want it in the apartment, but she was shouting in Greek, and we could not understand her, as she started holding the towels etc and saying in English...Its ok, Its ok, and I said firmly No..it is not ok, and then I started to show her the honey stained plate, that had been just placed on top of the remaining plates by the previous occupants I guess? and it almost made me want to throw up, as I was just going to use it, and subsequently had to look at every item in the cupboards, just to make sure that they were all clean. I showed her into the bathroom area to ask where the smell was coming from? and to show them that there was a really dirty coloured tissue covering a hole where this sewage smell was appearing to come from into the toilet, I pointed out the stained shower curtain in the bathroom, the broken bulb, the badly stained mats that were in both bedrooms and the kitchen, the disgusting grease stained hob and interior, which had been used to roast or toast stuff but had not been cleaned, and as I started cleaning it, and the black grease that came off of it onto her washing up cloth ...she really did not like to see that at all. Again Health and Safety would have had a field day, as the electrical connection to the hob/grill was open into the wall, mobile, and very live, and indeed an accident waiting to happen. I showed them outside the barbeque, which had not been cleaned at all, and it just looked disgusting, even the family downstairs left it alone, and bought mobile barbeque trays from a supermarket that were easily disposable. I pointed out the disgusting and badly stained table downstairs, that is supposedly for use, to eat the said barbequed food on, once it is cooked. I showed them the broken umbrellas, and the mobile ladder for entry into the pool, and also how dirty the pool water was.
When we got back into the apartment the male owner really changes and he takes over and asks me, how much money I paid for the week? to which I replied 630 pounds, and he humphed, and started to shout at me that the previous weeks had paid over a thousand, and did not complain, and if I do not like his house? I should just go. Leave my house now, he shouted, and his wife was remonstrating in Greek trying to placate him, as he was clearly losing it, and he was certainly no diplomat, and if he had handed me the money there and then, please believe me I would have walked straight away. You do not need this at the start of a holiday and we were stuck there. The Rep was duly informed, and by the morning newish mats had replaced the old stained ones, also newer towels, and they had replaced the badly stained tissue that was covering the hole in the bathroom, but that was all. The broken umbrellas were removed, and the bases were taped over, so that they could not be used from that moment on, so really we were at the mercy of being burnt by the sun, but there was bad weather for the next three days, and to be honest, we did not use the pool, as it was too dangerous, and indeed dirty. To reiterate I have photographic evidence to back all this up. I spoke to the rep about moving but apparently there was nothing available, and that would have wasted at least another half a day, maybe more?
We did not receive another further change of towels during the week, and they did not collect any rubbish from the apartment, which they did on the first two days. A nightmare of a holiday for us, in conditions that were totally unacceptable. A real shame, as the views were stunning, and it was so quiet and Loggos was a charming little port. I will send you through the photos, if you require them? and I am sure that I will post this up on the two sites that you mention on your website, to allow people to know the real truth about this place, and to let people, especially elderly ones, know just how difficult they would find it, getting up and down, that badly lit donkey trail very late at night? We are both fit and in shape but we even found it tough, especially after three visits up and down during the course of a day. Your descriptions on your website of the apartments, compared to the reality of the situation are so far apart, it has to be changed, as you are misleading people, and we are not at all happy, as with flights and spending money it is a very very expensive holiday. I cannot see how you can pay any compensation either? as you can guess I am not at all happy with this whole situation and maybe this is only the tip of the iceberg?

Something else we noticed, that certainly did not affect us, as there were only two of us, was that a family of four would not have enough room on that balcony, to sit around the one table that was there, as there simply isn't enough room. Spirit of Greece as a company know that it is their business to sell these villas/ apts and make them sound and look so attractive and we fell for it, and it just is not fair, so I am doing all I can to bring it to the notice of unsuspecting visitors to the Antigoni Apartments.

Management response from Tim Argent, Tour Operator 05 Mar 2010

We are very sorry that Warman did not enjoy his stay at the Antigoni Apartments (in Paxos not Ipsos). They are simple two bedroom apartments in a lovely position with gorgeous views and a large pool. We have featured them since 1996 and have had many positive reviews, some of which can be seen on the testimonials page of our web site. The apartments are cleaned three times per week and the pool every other day. Unfortunately Paxos endured a spell of bad weather before and during Warmans stay and storms had broken the umbrellas and also blown dust, dirt and leaves into the pool. The bad weather continued for much of the week making it difficult to keep the pool clean and we were unable to replace the umbrellas that week for which we apologise. There is, however, plenty of natural shade provided by surrounding trees. Shower curtains, bath mats and towels are easily replaced and should be automatically when they fall below a certain standard. It was the last week of the season and maybe it was thought they could last just another week. The towels and mats were replaced when asked. We disagree that our website description and photos are misleading but are confident that they paint a true picture of what clients can expect at Antigoni. Our agents have an office on Loggos harbour front and are there to sort out any problems with any of our Paxos properties should they occur. Don’t be put off by this review – there are many, many more couples and families who have had a lovely holiday at these apartments.

Antigoni apartments......on arrival...

Antigoni apartments......on arrival we (ie my hubby two sons age 5 and 15 and daughters 10 and 8) were met by Dimitri and Joanna,-- two of the nicest people you could meet, and shown to our (very basic) rooms---right beside the lovely pool. the kids were delighted and loved every minute of the time here in antigoni. i felt it was a really safe place for kids, and everyone was so nice and friendly to us.
the only prob was the damn mosquitos, but then they were everywhere, my husband arrived home looking like he'd a bad case of chicken pox.
the food was excellent, and all cooked by joanna, we sometimes had to wait for ages to get the food, but we knew it was always worth the wait.
Lakis, Dimitri's brother called by several times too and he was very entertaining, he also works in Pheobus---a really good restaurant, where we ate a few times, he even treated the kids to free icecreams.
rooms were cleaned every second day, and towels changed.
overall we were very impressed , but i only give 9 points because, on the day we left at 9.45 am there was noone there to make breakfast for us and as a result we had to eat in the airport, which was not only disgusting but cost us an arm and a leg...apart from this we are looking forward to going back to visit again...soon we hope.xxx

Its grand for a last minute holiday...but here are a few things to watch out for. Its is very small apartment complex.... airconditioning is 50Euro a week. Towels are hand towels so make sure to bring your own for after your shower etc. Hard to get food in restaurant as it takes soooo long ..... even getting water is hard!!! Restaurant is not very clean or tidy. There is no reception or anything like that...theres a farm next door to it and a rooster is screaming its head off the minute it starts to get bright which can be very annoying. Other than that people in the apartments were great crack. Corfu was good aswell..... full of italians no much irish. Defo not a holiday for a group of lads cos there are no girls over there just so you know.........
