I am actually amazed that this accommodation is still in operation. I spent a week with my fiance at the Gikas apartments and I can honestly say it was the worst holiday I have ever experienced. When the bus drove up the lane I thought I was approaching Afganistan - the hotel looked as if it was falling down and their were chickens and cockerels running about the lane. The room was of adequate size, however, it wasn't as clean as one would anticipate when arriving at their accommodation. The sheets were not changed hence I stripped it myself to find one mattress stained in urine, and the other with blood!I took photograghs of this and sent them off to Budget Travel at a later date. The staff were frendly and due to this we did not complain about the state of the complex. However, the day before our departure we went to our safe (in the room), to discover that 300 euros had been stolen from our safety deposit box. The thief had left us with enough cash to do us on our last day - they obviously knew when we were leaving. At the pool we were chatting to other residents and told them of our bad experience - a few other guests admitted that they also had thought money had went missing from theirs, however, they had been drinking throughout the holiday and were unsure about what they were spending. When I made a complaint to the hotel owner we were basically told to be discreet as they did not want other guests to know. The rep was very unhelpful and told us there was no point contacting the police to make a statement as we were travelling home the following day.
If you have sense do not go to this hotel!!

We stayed here a couple of years back (myself and partner).
Susie and Stevie were very pleasant hosts and the location was great.
The big downsides and most Irish people must have been pissed out of there heads not to notice was:-
(1) The accomodation was so dungeon like, however clean.
(2) Very noisy and we came in about 1am for a kip.
(3) For Greek people the food they served was very substandard. Little appeared freshly made with Frozen Lasagne and Iceland type 'main meals'. Gouvia centre we a went!
(4) The pool is very small and it's not at all private when you're not for drinking and socialising.
We were in Gouvia just past summer and had a walk up there - all seemed the same.
The location has potential as it's located in a nice area with Figs, Oranges, Olives growing and wild fowl to be seen and heard.
Across the road is an apartment block which was I believe under Thomson and catered more for Scandanavian and Germanic tourists. We paid a small fee several days to use their pool. The bar was a different league altogther, as was the food served.
As we were bascially Thomson customers, we asked ourselves, do we think that we're low grade as Irish tourists as to not expect the same standards as Norwegian or German tourists.
This is our honest opinion and is in all intention in Good Faith.

Our family, a group of two adults and two early-teen children stayed in the Gikas apartments in July 2007.
Although the accommodation was basic, this was more than made up for by the people who ran the apartments, in particular Susie the owner. Each member of the staff was so accommodating and full of good humour. Nothing was a problem to them.
The apartments were very clean and new towels were given out every second day. The pool was very safe and child friendly, and the snack bar located next to it was perfect for our needs. If you would like a holiday where you felt you were getting away from everything, no pressure, this is definitely the place to go.
The owner, Susie, had a little farm beside the apartment block, where she kept chickens, turkeys, sheep and goats. It was lovely to wake up each morning and hear all of these animals.
The view of the mountains from the apartments was fantastic. The local town was just 6 minutes walking distance there.
Again the people working in the restaurants there were just lovely and were very good to the children. Corfu town is just a short taxi drive away, and we would strongly recommend that you visit. It is a lovely old town, and has a strong Roman influence.
Overall, our holiday was fantastic and we would highly recommend visiting this lovely unspoilt Greek Island.

What can I say. My fiancée and I are just back from spending a splendid week in the Gikas with Susie and her family.
We booked it last minute on the Wednesday before the Friday we flew out. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there - we stayed not in the apartments but in a little house (cant find anything else to describe it!!) at the back of the apartments.
The downside of this: absolutely nothing; the upside: no noisy neighbours (not that there was any there that week), free air conditioning AND safety deposit box! The apartments are basic but what do you want in an apartment?
They are kept extremely clean and clean towels are given every second day. As we lazed by the pool each day, we got to learn that Susie is indeed what Oliver, our budget travel rep, described her as -the hardest working woman in Corfu!
She was the first up every morning to serve breakfast and the last to serve us a drink each night before we went to bed...and this was pretty late some mornings! She will cook you anything you like anytime you like!!
The apartment block itself has fabulous views of the highest mountain range in Corfu and Gouvia sea which make for excellent photo opportunities!
Aside from the apartments, we had an excellent itinerary, clearly detailed by our travel rep who visited the apartments most days of the week. A few things we recommend you sign up for is the AQUA PARK/SHOP day - you will be collected on the main road at about 12noon to go the aqua park for about 4 1/2 hours then off to Corfu town for the nightly shop and back to apartments for about 8.30.
Corfu town is a maze of streets and shops with excellent bargains and excellent photo ops when you see the views of the sea and the old fortress - which is visit able. Another great day out is with Spioros on his boat - he will collect you in Gouvia at 10am and take you up coast for a beach BBQ - one of the few sandy beaches on this side of Corfu - on the way there/back.
We stopped off swimming and diving off rocks in the sea between Corfu/Albania - Spiros himself took us swimming into caves - an absolutely amazing experience. All of these days out and more are bookable through your rep with Budget.
We would return to Corfu again next week! We totally loved it there and we recommend you book it asap before it becomes really popular and expensive!! The only downside of the holiday is the mosquitoes so be sure and bring sprays/creams as these have the capability of ruining a good holiday!

We have just come home after spending a great two weeks at Gikas apts. in Gouvia Corfu.
We had a two bed. app. which met all our needs. The bedrooms were spacious and very clean. Each bedroom had sliding doors that opened out on to the balcony, which had superb views. I could not fault it. An excellent supply of towels every second day.
The food was excellent and Suzie would cook something any time you wanted a meal. The vegetables and eggs are from her own farm. The baked potatoes were absolutely delicious, as was the excellent breakfast.
The bus stop is 5 min. walk and takes you to Corfu Town in 20mins. There is a small supermarket just mins. from the Gikas and is excellent and not over priced. The lady there is more than helpful.
The town of Gouvia is a 10 min walk and the road that has to be crossed is very busy, so wait until the green man shows. The beach is pebble but the scenery more than makes up for this. We also went on a boat trip to Kassopi and that was spectacular.
We loved the restaurants especially S.O.S and Muses .Fantastic food and staff. The people we met were very friendly and most speak excellent English.
We loved Gouvia and can’t wait to return. It was a completely relaxing holiday.

I absolutely loved the Gikas apartments and would definitely return there again. The apartments are basic but very comfortable and were kept very clean, and all apartments have an amazing view.
The best thing about these apartments are the people that run them. It is a family-run apartments and they could not do more to help you. The pool bar has a fantastic atmosphere... the apartment facility is quite small so everyone gets to know each other (over drunken karaoke sessions!), it is very easy to make lots of good friends here. The pool bar stays open for as long as people keep drinking and Rosie will cook you up something no matter what time of day or night you ask!
Food and drink prices at the pool bar are very reasonable. The apartments are a 5 min walk from the beautiful Gouvia town with the most amazing restaurants- try the Molfetta Beach Hotel.. it has entertainment and food that you won't forget! If you are looking for lively nightlife take a 10/15 min taxi drive to Ipsos with its plentiful nightclubs and foam parties!
I would especially recommend this hotel for people who want to stay in the more peaceful part of town but still have easy access to the lively nightlife - ideal for couples and families.

We have just returned from a our holiday at Gikas.
Firstly I have to say that Susie is lovely and so hard working and I agree with all good things that other reviews have said about her.
Apart from one Irish family we were the only English people there. The other residents were mainly Dutch (we think) and Italian. Mostly couples or groups of all girls or all lads. There were problems with a large group of Italian boys who turned up at the pool each afternoon and ruined the peaceful setting. They were asked to leave but they didn't and Susie had no backup for the situation.
Because of this we spent the 2nd week at another pool where there were lots of families and the kids made some friends and were much happier.
We had many unsettled nights sleep with groups socialising on the balconys until around 4.30am. We found that as we were returning home at around 1am, most were just going out for the night!
If we had no children perhaps we wouldn't have felt so annoyed about it.
The accomodation itself was clean but very basic. Two rings to cook with wasn't sufficient, it would have been great to have a toaster. I wasn't planning on cooking much but a slice of toast for breakfast would've been nice.
There was no entertainment laid on in the bar, no music played during the day so no atmosphere.
We wouldn't stay there again, definately not for families :(
