In keeping with all Costa’s ships, spotless throughout, second smallest of the fleet with 511 cabins (4 for disabled guest) it was refurbished last year, a must go on again sometime, ship for us. From the moment you step aboard you feel relaxed and comfortable. Cabins are slightly smaller than most but not unduly so, certainly not for just two, four may be a squeeze.
All the usual facilities, alternative dining, ballroom, show lounge, card room, small casino, internet café, spas, beauty centre, children’s pool & club, shops, medical centre, fully stabilized and AC. For something special take one evening meal in the Club Bahia restaurant where you will be treated to the most spectacular food whose presentation needs to be captured on camera.
Ok I may be biased, but I do think these smaller ships are the best cruising can offer. My favourite spot was on the Smeraldo deck, enclosed by floor to ceiling glass windows, watching the sun rise and set over the horizon. My early morning coffee waiting for me by the third day, (thank you Hadlee, for that wonderful personal touch.) Where ever or what ever you done on this ship the staff made you feel so special. On our return I wrote to head office and praised Hadlee and Arron in the Dining room for their efforts, and two months later I received a letter from them thanking me for my comments, which I thought was nice.
The tours on board were reasonably priced ranging from 27 Euros to 77 Euros, three in Cannes, five in Barcelona, two in Tunis, four in Palermo, five in Rome and three in Savona, with the exception of Rome all were possible to do on your own, but the amount of information given out by the tour guides on the historical tours were worth that little extra you paid.
In keeping with most cruise ships, there is a cashless system used on board, you are given a card for all your on board purchases, and settle your account at the end of the cruise.
The Costa Tropicale along with all other Costa ship is multi-lingual with roughly one fifth being English speaking, but the English host Greg made sure we never missed out, and was always there to say hello or sit and have a drink with you, or introduce you to other English aboard.
A memorable cruise, great itinerary, super food, good shows and wonderful crew/staff. Well-done Costa.
