This is not a 4 star hotel at the very most I and other visitors would say it is a 2.5 star. It is very dated hotel, the air con doesnt work and the cleanliness is questionable with cockroaches in bedroom? Went during Ramadan so staff were not in the best of moods and... more

After having read the reviews for Amine Hotel, I must admit I was a little apprehensive regarding my reservation made at Amine Hotel. However, upon arrival at the hotel, the entrance looked lovely from the outside, and cleanliness was noted immediately. Customer Service... more

We arrived at the hotel on a Friday morning around 11.00am and were thrown some forms to fill in and told to wait as the rooms were not ready. After a 3 hour wait in reception we asked what time they expected the rooms would be ready as we were very tired and they told as... more

Last year; Turkey, Monaco & Corsica. The first one of 2008 was to be Marrakech. Reading the various reports made us feel ill with concerns over our choice! However, we were pleasantly surprised. The Hotel Amine starts off by looking like a 4 star (great reception/lobby) but... more

This is definitely not a 4* hotel! More like 3 *. We had half board and the food was monotonous and often cold! Waiters more concerned with being tipped than giving service. We were told we could not eat at the hotel on New Year's Eve at 8.30pm unless we paid another £100... more

Well where to start? We had booked via Easyjet web site and had expected a 4 star hotel, and what did we get? A 2 star and that is being generous! We arrived on the Saturday after an early morning flight. We got a petite taxi from the airport. This was a great welcome... more

Very pleasant place to stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Cafe/bar by the pool very good, and of course the pool was wonderful. Easy to get into the old town using the L1 bus which stops almost opposite the hotel, costs 3 dirham 50 and comes along every 10 minutes or so. ... more

OK, this is Marrakech we're talking about. If you're going there to sit by a pool all day and use room service then consider either a more expensive 'resort' hotel or a more appropriate destination such as Greece or Spain, because the Amine is certainly no 4-star... more

short break
Hotel Amine is a 10 minute taxi ride from the city centre or a walk along a busy main road, so it is a bit of a trawl getting into town, however it does have a pool which you wouldn't get in the city centre, so you need to decide whether you want a pool or easy access into the city as you won't get both. THe pool is great in the heat and to be able to have a dip after a hot day more than makes up for the rather out of the way location. The food is ok, the staff are nice and the rooms are clean and more than adequate - overall you get a decent holiday for the price and as long as you are prepared for the (short) taxi ride into town it is a good place to stay - there is absolutely nothing in the area though the tour bus does stop nearby but the service is not frequent enough to rely on that. By Morrocan standards the service is pretty good. Really need some French to get by but the staff mostly got by in English
A Pleasant Stay
Well it was our first time in Morocco (4 Sisters) so naturally we were nervous about the whole experience! Upon arriving at the hotel at approx 9pm we were welcomed by a porter and then served at the main reception desk by friendly staff. Our luggage was taken to the room but to be honest we didn’t like the room because it bordered a road so there was a lot of road traffic! The next morning we asked to change rooms, and we were given two pool-side view rooms. These were lovely! The rooms are very clean. House-keeping do a good job of keeping them well maintained. My only qualm would be the pillows! You're better of bringing your own! Breakfast was ok, a nice variety- croissants, bread, pastries, salad, fresh orange juice, coffee and tea. Can't complain! Communication was a struggle as a lot of people spoke French- especially housekeeping and a few members of staff. But we got by! I must warn you of a few arrogant men! A man's world out there so you have to be careful! Otherwise- a very pleasant stay at the hotel- oh and taxi's are readily available outside the hotel too!
a good base for exploring
I stayed here with my mum. I read the previous travellers reviews and it was really helpful. no sign of cockroaches, only snake charmer show in the bar one night!! The hotel was clean, quite efficient and we asked to be moved to a pool view room and that was no problem at all. our room was basic, certainly not UK 4 star, more like 2 1/2 or 3. the lights were swinging off wires in the walls and every time I flushed the loo the handle came away in my hand! It gave us a good laugh and we felt safe and happy there. (no tea or coffee in the room so take a kettle if you like a cuppa). the pool is lovely and I also think the location is good because it is away from the hustle and bustle of the medina and the sun stays a good while on the pool. The Amine is a short ride on the bus to the Medina and we were fine doing that. We also went on the open top sight seeing bus which was good for getting our bearings and an overview of the city and the surroundings. The staff at the hotel were freindly and really do appreciate a bit of effort in basic french or an arabic thank you. taxi in the evening from the airport to the hotel was about 130 Dirham. Day time it was 100 Dirham. I'd definatley go back again, its not posh luxury but just fine if you are looking for safety, comfort and sunshine.
Total Bliss
I checked out the review page and was filled with dread -cockroaches, smelly toilet, dowdy rooms, unpleasant staff, crap food - I almost rebooked elsewhere but decided to take a risk. So glad I did, it was magical and loved every minute of our stay. Really impressed by the cleanliness of the whole hotel and the staff worked non-stop. Got to know one of the workers who took us into the walled city and introduced us to local traders and bagged a few bargains. We found the staff very humble and polite and if your looking for the false smile and phoney have a nice day stuff you should try America or Butlins instead. Embrace the culture -experience the Hammams get a massage and use the lovely beauty rooms. The girls who service it are friendly and professional. I'm planning my next trip and can't wait!
Had a lovely time
It was our first trip to Morroco and we read the reviews here before going, we went with an open mind and an open heart. I had taken my 15 yr old grandson and 16 yr old niece with me. The hotel is big with many small courtyards and lovely gardens. Pool is big and clean with plenty loungers. Staff were friendly enough, rooms were very clean. Our shower curtains were short and we had a cockroach but our room was changed straight away. Apparently the cockroaches get into the ground floor rooms through balcony doors being left open, so do not book a ground floor room! The hotel is lovely and I would definatly go there again. I think the views vary as to peoples expectations of their holidays, some are ther to see the real Morroco others just to drink and lie by the pool and have people running around them. We went to see Morroco and were happy with the rooms as we were never in them long enough. We also went to Casablanca by train, took us 3 hrs in an air conditioned train which was very comfortable, cost us 84 dh(168 return) each rather than the 1000dh by taxi! We did not speak a word of french or arabic but managed well. The staff seem indifferent due to the language barrier. We took the taxi everywhere as it was so cheap 20dh max for the three of us and so readily available, they charge more in the evenings aspecially from the square as they are busy, we haggled the prices so set a price before getting in. Why walk when it's so cheap to get a taxi or bus. I liked the fact we were away from the busy areas. We loved the jema el fna square and had fresh orange juice there on every visit. I love to haggle over the prices nad found I paid almost half of the asking price, they do get pushy and miserable if you don't buy, so make it clear that you are just looking. Best tip is if you wnat something and are not agreeing on a price to walk away, if they can go lower they will call you back. The visit to Fantasia restaurant is a must..amazing! Majorelle gardens are so beutifull, cool and calming on a hot day. Aurika valley was nice but be prepared for a long hike to get to the waterfall so wear suitable shoes and not flip flops, if you have health issues don't go. Like osmeone said you reap what you sew, be friendly and respect them and they will respect you back. In the UK would we expect staffs of hotels to know the visitors language or expect the visitor to know english?? I loved Morroco and will be going back again next year with the rest of the family. Go with an open mind and an open heart and enjoy!!
More of a 3 stars than a 4
We spent 4 nights at the Amine Hotel. Overall was OK, the staff are very friendly but some problems with hygiene in the bathroom. We had several unwanted visitors called "cockroches" turning up through the bathroom and sink, I guess it was due to the weather but not good enough! The breakfast was fine- try to avoid the orange juice at it was off... Swimming pool and bar was clean although I don't think I will be returning to this hotel.
About 2 stars
How interesting that reviews of this hotel should have been so mixed so far. My own experience of the hotel was mixed: Some staff were helpful; some morose (especially when paying for drinks etc on the room - presumably because they didn't get a tip). Breakfast was ordinary; dinner was above average in choice and quantity. The room was small and not convincingly clean, but with excellent air conditioning. The Pool was very good, but crowded. The location was out of town - a cheap taxi ride away, but it got really boring having to negotiate the fare each time. The hotel was cheap (within a package). So if you like lady bathers with tatoos just abouve the bikini line, and babies with dummies in their mouths, and you have a low budget, this 2* type hotel is just right for you
Four star? Don't think so...
Four star, we thought. It'll be great! No. Let's start with the bedroom. The air conditioning didn't work, the small balcony was really dirty, the bed itself was uncomfortable (the pillows being like bricks, the covers that heavy, cheap, itchy wool your granny has in her spare bedroom) and the en suite, while it did the job, was hardly 4 star. The staff (apart from one chap who worked in the bar) were indifferent bordering on rude. The food was not good although you could eat as much as you wanted. The best thing about this hotel was its pool. It's large and clear and there are plenty of sun loungers so you don't need to fight for a space. All in all, though, I'm afraid I would have to advise against this hotel and suggest you pay £30 extra and go for a five star hotel (which will probably be equivalent to a UK three star...)
Really Bad service
This hotel is very beautiful and clean. Unfortunately this is all that is nice about Hotel Amine. Upon arrival, you don't even get a smile. All the staff members were grumpy. The best staff were the cleaners. The food was ok and not great. On exit, there was a towel missing. The hotel would not let us leave without checking our luggage. I told them that we had to catch our flight and would pay. They said it would cost approx £20 for a towel. We then had to open all 5 of our suitcases. They were then checked by them. It was so humiliating. We were shouted at by the receptionist. They found a small white towl which did not belong to them - but they took anyway. I have never been to a hotel that has treated its customers so badly. I would recommend paying the extra £10-£15 for a better hotel.
Enjoyed our stay at the Amine
We stayed a week at the Amine in April and would use it again. It is a 3 to 3.5 star rating rather than the official 4 star but we were expecting that and it was reflected in what we paid. It has a lovely pool area with a snack bar which was also popular for a late afternoon drink. There is also a bar inside the hotel with live music once a week. This is a fairly quiet hotel, apart from the irritating music at times around the pool area. We spent some of our time relaxing around the pool area soaking up the sun. We were on a bed and breakfast basis for our stay but we ate lunch snacks at the pool bar and had the Hotel dinner buffet on two occasions during our stay. We found the hotel food and drink prices very reasonable. Breakfast was adequate although not a great choice. Evening buffet had a fair selection but was a bit manic and like a noisy cafeteria. Wine was available with meals. Our room was of a good size, overlooking the pool area. It was clean and of pleasant appearance. The bathroom was a little tired. TV had Eurosport channel but not much else in English. The room was cleaned daily and although basic we liked it. The hotel has a Med-Hotels rep who welcomed us in and made us aware of excursions offered, we found him helpful and we booked one through him. We liked the hotel location and enjoyed our walks around the area although it is an art to cross the roads in Marrakech. Convenient (and cheap fare) bus stop outside hotel (over the road) to the famous square. Taxis cheap as well but beware that the Taxi may not carry any change so make sure you do, else you will be hunting around to get money with the Taxi driver waiting to be paid. Overall we preferred to stay in the new town area and take trips into the Square/Souks as it can be overwhelming although enjoyable. We ate out at various restaurants (working our way through the variety of Tanjines), only caught out once where no alchohol served so it pays to check before you sit down. Meals with wine were good value for money. Marrakech was even nicer than we expected, pretty and felt safe walking around at all times, a lack of hassle (apart from inside the Souks). Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Amine and Marrakech and intend to return.
