" I really don’t understand what... "

I really don’t understand what people find to moan about this apartment complex!!

Really tidy, comfortable rooms...superbly cleaned by the maids....we had maid service in our room 3 times in the first week and 4 yes that’s four times the second.
We had a Kettle already in there not that we used it, a massive balcony overlooking the pool and ocean, renting a fan cost 30 euros for 2 weeks with a 10 euro deposit but it is worth it.

The room could maybe do with a proper air con system as it faces the sun all day and gets like a greenhouse but that’s what you go on holiday for, the heat!!

My only gripe with the Blue Star and its really only moderate is the amount of loungers round the pool, there’s only a small amount and they get snapped up fast...people were going down to the pool and sleeping on them from 5 in the morning just to keep them!!!

Staff in the reception were great, really friendly and helpful with everything from getting a fan to ordering a taxi.

Amadores beach is excellent, lots of sun beds and umbrellas and a good selection of places to eat and drink and its only 3 euros to get down there by taxi which are always readily available.

The Europa centre has a mix of everything you could want from bars and restaurants, the only thing that annoys me are the guys trying to get you to go into their places but they’re everywhere nowadays anyway.

After reading certain reviews I must admit I was slightly wary, especially reading about cockroaches........but we didn’t see one for the whole two weeks we were there, either in the rooms or around the town, so don’t always believe everything you read.

At the end of the day you make your own holiday and I can safely say I would gladly head back here again anytime.

" I booked a stay at the Blue Star... "

I booked a stay at the Blue Star apartments with my boyfriend for a week’s holiday to just chill out, but was mortified when I read the reviews!

Hotel- The views are breathtaking and balconies are huge. We arrived late evening, when we were nicely welcomed by the reception staff. The structure of the hotel (on a hill) meant that the pool was located on floor five and reception and entrance was located on floor 8. The higher the floor, the better the view. We were lucky enough to have a room on floor seven. However the main lift which runs to all floors was only in use between early morning and stopped at 8pm due to some security problems! However there is more than one lift there are about 5! We had to drag our cases down one floor that’s all. The lift was repaired frequently during our stay so was out of use at times, but in contrast to other reviews, I didn’t find this a problem as there were other lifts. Right next to the hotel, there’s also a handy supermarket selling all essentials!

The Pool - The pool was gorgeous, not massive but a decent size. There were plentiful sunbeds around the pool so didn’t have to go down and reserve some early. The pool bar served stunning food that was reasonably priced. One day there was a reptile show by the pool where we had a photo taken with a snake 6ft and yellow!

The resort itself - Amadores beach is well worth a visit, absolutely gorgeous and very clean. It also has the usual bars/souvenir shops surrounding it. The Europa centre was about 5 minutes walk (not even that) from the hotel. There were a few shops, bars, mini-golf, trampolines for kids and an excursion shop. Bars were quite quiet but the one as you go in has some good entertainment. Me and my boyfriend had a photo taken here, and had it put into a key ring which was nice.

To sum it up, would I go again? Definately and I’d stay here! I hope this has helped. You get what you pay for; it was clean, in a good location, what more could you ask for. And by the way...I did not see one cockroach in the hotel or resort all week!

" We had stayed at the Blue Star 2... "

We had stayed at the Blue Star 2 times previous to this visit. You basically get what you pay for. We only paid £140 for the week (booked separately flights and accommodation).

The rooms are very basic - if you are on a holiday which involves laying on the beach all day then going out drinking at night then you probably won't be spending much time in the apartments anyway.

If you are planning on spending a lot of time in your apartment then I'd recommend booking a room next door at the Babalu (all the rooms there have balconies which overlook the pool area - really nice).

I would recommend Amadores beach over Puerto Rico's. It’s so much cleaner, tons of sun beds and restaurants lining the beach where you can get drinks and snacks all day. Plus it’s only a 5 minute taxi ride from Puerto Rico.

If you are sick of eating chips and burgers and want a proper meal then you can't beat Picassos. It’s behind the Europa Centre at the top of the hill in Puerto Rico. It’s a bit pricey and you need to book a few days in advance (it gets incredibly busy) but its well worth it. The food is amazing.

If you are after a fun night out with quizzes and karaoke then the Europa Centre does it all. Turbo bar has incredibly friendly staff.

If you are after a proper big night out then the Commercial Centre is the place to be. Can't remember the name of many of the pubs - which is the sign of a good night!!

" Ignore all of the bad reviews these... "

Ignore all of the bad reviews these are great apartments!

The accommodation had loads of space, it was spotless, the balcony was huge and looked over the see and the cleaners are friendly. (The safes in the rooms are a really good size you can fit a lot in them i.e bigger cameras etc)

The first lift you come to it a bit dodgy and we only used this when we had suit cases, there is another lift which is split into two sections which is a lot better you just have to take one flight of stairs to the reception.

It is at the top of the hill but it does tell you that before you go, it's is only a two minute walk if even to the Europa Centre at the top were all the bars and restaurants are.

They don't have any entertainment at all and the pool bar for food and drink opens at 10am and closes early at 6pm this is also when the pool opens and closes.

A taxi down to the other Europa Centre or the beach is about 3.50 Euros from the apartments.

The only slight complaint I have is that you don't even get a kettle; all you get is two cooker rings, plates & cutlery. (The have items available to rent)

You get what you pay for here and that is great value for money.

No complaints here.

Elaine

" Hi, just arrived back from the Blue... "

Hi, just arrived back from the Blue Star. First impressions reception quite nice then came the point of trying to find your apartment.

We got in what is like a cable car lift, pressed the floor we wanted and down it went but did not stop. It reached the next floor and carried on back up to reception.

Eventually arrived at apartment which was very basic - had kettle but no toaster, cooking rings looked a death trap, as water from the sink runs down the back and on to wiring.

These apartments were advertised with bar/restaurant but there was none there. The sign outside saying restaurant disappeared on the third day. Had pool bar open 10 till 5pm happy hour Monday and Friday only 1pm/2pm.

Pool area, clean sun beds have no mattress and are very hard. Chairs round pool area had broken arms and the lift did not work for 4 out of the 7 days we were there and when it did, it sounded like a earthquake.

Our room was next to lift and was it loud, thought it was thunder one night only to realise it was the lift. There are 2 more lifts near pool bar but are a trek if your not on the fifth floor.

Commercial centre in Puerto Rico only 3euro in taxi the shamrock on top floor great for a drink and entertainment and the Sabidan, where you can get a great meal at good prices.

I recommend the 1/2 roast chicken cooked on a spit and cut to order, 4euro 55 and the steaks are a must.

But back to the Blue Star, stayed at many places in Puerto Rico but this I'd give 4/10.

If you want perfume in the Europa centre try Dianas perfumes opposite Mary ds excellent prices.

If you go to Puerto Rico Jan/feb take warm clothing for nights gets really cold once sun goes down.

" Hi Just been to Playa Del Ingles the... "

Hi Just been to Playa Del Ingles the hotel was excellent, the only thing I can note about it was that the bar closed too early on a night.

Instead of drinking in the bar in the hotel we went to a pub about 2 mins away called Cheers, it was really cheap 1 Euro a pint all night. The night life is spot on. The weather was red hot I burnt my shoulders (they are peeling now).

Went to all the shopping centres and bought loads of stuff which was as cheap as chips.

Overall the holiday was much more fun filled than I expected. The only thing I would like to mention is when you are shopping, the people who work in the shops usually stand outside and try to get you to go inside and buy something when you are walking past. They also knock down the price when you start walking away. I got a watch for 5 euros suppose to be 45 euros.

I am going back there in October cant wait.

" Hi we just got back this morning at... "

Hi we just got back this morning at 4am from peurto Rico staying at the blue star apartments after reading bad reviews, we were very apprehensive, but was pleasantly surprised.

The rooms were basic but very clean, pool was very clean, the staff all very friendly and helpful, the lift yes it was an adventure, like a cable car with runners, but never broke down thank god!

The views are lovely from higher floors, If you have walking problems make sure you try and get a room on floor 8 as reception is on floor 9 and only 2 flight of steps to go, not very steep, you can also get lift (cable car).

Right next to reception is a Supermarket, so not far to go for food if you can be bothered cooking (2 rings only on cooker)! Who want s to cook on hols meals so cheap anyway?

Only saw 2 cockroaches in apartment but its gran canaria cockroach city!
saw a lot outside in centre, just don’t kill them by treading on them as the females lay eggs and they can be carried in on your shoes and hey more cockroaches, use spray from apartment or from supermarkets. (or get your husband aaarrgghhh!!!)

The drive way is quite a steep climb or there are steps to the left. The Europa centre is situated just at the top of the road (5 mins walk away) Plenty to do bars, restaurants, shops (all selling same tourist tat) arcades where you can use email and messenger for 20 mins 1 Euro.

Barbacoa is a good bar, at bottom, before trampolines. 3 live acts on a night and meals served, Biblos is nice quiet bar, we liked The Tavern, upstairs in the Europa Centre, (karaoke nights & quizzes).

All nice meals in restaurants, you have quiet and loud bars so great for families.
The sea is gorgeous if you go down to amadores beach wear at least factor 30 sun cream; it’s such a nice refreshing breeze you don’t realise your getting burnt especially if your on your lilo in the sea (like I did!!)

The dolphin trips are amazing (spirit of the sea) if you don’t see anything you get your money back. We saw 26 dolphins it was fantastic. The boats all have trackers on them so whoever sees them first, they radio all the other boats!

If you fancy a change get a taxi down to the Commercial Centre (not more than 3 half euros) Taxi with green lights on you can flag down, but watch out for zebra crossings, traffic does not stop! Down in centre loads of shops and big bars discos. Amusements mini golf, Mc Donald’s etc .

Do eat at El Torro upstairs in commercial centre, fantastic food and very funny waiters that keep you entertained all night.

We also hired a car (Avis) to see the island ,yes right we decided to go to palmitos park, reptile/bird and animal park saw signposts for it went up the hill, then signpost disappeared, couldn’t find it anywhere but passed sioux city and went there instead where they filmed A Fistful Of Dollars (clint eastwood) made up western villag. It’s a great day out but cheaper if you make your way there yourself. The next day we found palmitos park with the reps directions (first choice) Angie great rep very helpful. Off up a beaten track for about 30 mins but was worth it when we got there.

This is turning into more of a novel ha ha!

The water park was great in peurto rico just up from the main centre (atlantica)
great day out not as busy as the one in maspalomas, very clean and sun beds cheap, brollies free. It’s a bit expensive but open 10 - 6pm so get there early and it’s quiet no queuing to be honest - later on not much queues either!

So yes we had a great holiday, only one thing don’t go end of august it’s absolutely red hot sweltering, too hot on a night to sleep, ok if you have a fan and air conditioning which the blue star lacks, although you can hire fans among other things.

So we didn’t think it was bad at all, but that’s our view, happy hols if you go remember factor 30 at least!

" Before we went I had read some of the... "

Before we went I had read some of the reviews and was not looking forward to staying in the blue star and had every intention of booking in a hotel if my fears were confirmed, but both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised, yes they are basic but very clean the lifts worked fine the pool was very nice and clean and the staff very friendly, but the views are to die for - 190degrees of sea views stunning.

Also they are situated very near to the night life, if people are expecting 5 star accommodation then book a 5 star hotel. I think some people just go away ready to have a whinge. Would I go back, yes.

" Stayed here from the 14th till the... "

Stayed here from the 14th till the 21st of August and first impressions were about average. First off, although the lift was working I refused to use it, (I don't have a death wish) luckily we were only 2 floors down, still a walk but ok.

The apartment was clean and spacious, wasn't to bothered about the facilities as I had no intention on using them. Food’s cheap enough so why cook???? The patio area was a bit worn down only one chair and a table, double room one chair do the maths!

We visited the pool once for breakfast so can’t really comment, apart from the 3000 stairs it takes to get there.

The Europa Center is only 5 minutes away, easy walk no real hills. My only problem was the lack of variety; the majority of the restaurants serve general food. No speciality restaurants other than Chinese and Italian. We did find a Mexican in the middle of the hills somewhere, made a change from steak every night.

Stupid people with sunglasses and flashing necklaces everywhere covering up the fact that they really sell drugs, but then again they are like cockroaches they're everywhere.

Ventured down into puerto rico centre and to be honest its much of the same probably better of sticking with the europa center. Peurto Rico beach is on par with Blackpool without the donkey sh*t. We went there once but never again.

Adamores beach just 15 mins walk from the Blue Star is far better. Man made in 2004 it’s cleaner and has water you won’t catch something off. Plenty of shops and restaurants. The Duke of York Steak House does the best breakfast; we also had dinner there a couple of times, Very Nice.

Aquapark - Don't Bother (Waterpark equivalent of the pleasure beach)

Maspolomas - Very very nice place, very quiet loads of shops and places to eat (20 euro in taxi). Avoid the sand dunes whatever you do! Nice to see them until you get a full frontal from a geriatric couple. Now I don’t mind seeing breast on a beach it’s become normal, but I nearly had a heart attack when a naked pensioner bent over flashing his chocolate starfish. Enough of that I feel sick.

The Hills - Ok walking down! Do not attempt the walk back up or you will be flagging a taxi like your life depended on it, probably cos it will!

Would I go back - Hhhhmmmm, no I don't think so. Better places, similar price, no hills.

One last thing - Prepare for a rough landing the winds on approach are bad. The applause when it landed was relief that we were still alive. Also delayed coming home due to the weather. Puerto Rico isn't windy because it is sheltered but others are.

" Stayed at Blue Star 27th march... "

Stayed at Blue Star 27th march wasn’t looking forward to going as read really bad reviews bout it. But when we got there was nothing like I had in mind, it was fine.

The room was really clean, the cleaner came in 3 times and changed bedding and towels. The pool was a little bit dirty but apart from that everything was fine.

Didn’t even see one cockroach the whole holiday so if anyone has a holiday booked at blue star, don’t worry its not as bad as people are saying.

" We stayed in the two bedroom... "

We stayed in the two bedroom apartments, which are massive in comparison to most apartments in Spanish resorts. They all face out to sea and are bathed in sunlight from morning to spectacular sunset.

They are basic, but clean. They are built like most of Puerto Rico on a hill side so access is via steps or the very busy alpine style lift. (Two vertical lifts have been added which helps.)

Anyway we enjoyed it that much we are going back for a 4th time this Easter.

" Everything I read from other... "

Everything I read from other reviewers was true! No kettle in a self catering apartment!!!- unless you pay 12 euros rent and 10 euros deposit! The same for a toaster!! No patio furniture to speak of and very basic accommodation. Lifts NOT working! I thought that they would have been fixed by now - last review was July 05 - but it is clear they are running the hotel into the ground - not spending a penny!

The swimming pool was very grubby, the sun beds were uncomfortable and dirty. The pool bar was very limiting and one of the travellers in my party got terrible diarrhoea after eating a hot dog there! The buildings were tired and shabby. Worst of all was that the reception staff were rude and unhelpful! - of course lovely on the day of arrival, but once you are in they are awful. One of the beds ( room 714) has a very bad lopsided mattress. The only positive point was that the apartments were quite clean. ( but the bed linen and towels are very old.

I would never stay at Blue star again. I took a chance as there were only 4 reviews - but I should have trusted them. I will make sure I check holiday watchdog BEFORE booking next time. Plus the Europa centre has really gone down hill and I did not find any of the restaurants there particularly appealing. The grill restaurant Carne was terrible.

" Stayed at the Blue Star apartments in... "

Stayed at the Blue Star apartments in a one bed apartment. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful and the complex was reasonably clean. where this resort fell down badly was apartment facilities. On a self catering holiday I would expect a few basic items in my apartment.
At the Blue Star, a kettle was extra (12 euros), toaster (12 euros), and so on.
I suppose you could say its not self catering but "ROOM ONLY".
" Well these were renamed the No star... "

Well these were renamed the No star by several guests. The apartments were very very basic.

You had to pay for everything, ie the toaster the kettle etc. The pool was very dirty, you couldn’t even see the bottom it was that dirty. Come the weekend the Spanish took over everything. Very rude and very ignorant. My little boy tried to get out of the pool one day to be pushed back by a fully grown Spanish idiot. They would spit in the pool. Not very nice. Restaurant constantly got orders wrong. Not good at all.

Advice, go next door to the Alta mar. Entertainment, two massive pools, very very good.
" Very poorly kept apartments. Clean,... "

Very poorly kept apartments. Clean, but that’s really all you can say about them. You are not provided with a kettle or toaster. Have only 2 hotplates to cook on. One of ours was broken.

The cupboards in the kitchen area were hanging off. The bedroom and bathroom doors were bowed and wouldn’t shut properly. Too many problems to mention really. The lift to the reception was constantly breaking down and sometimes just kept on going up and down with people in it. I booked the holiday for a family of 4 but the room only catered for 3, so spent a lot of time chasing up a bed, linen, cutlery etc. The restaurant was shut.

You're right at the top of the hill, so if you want to go to a beach, be prepared for a long walk or to spend on taxis.
