We stayed at the Olympic Palace hotel the last week of july for 7 nights. Due to air strikes in France we were delayed at Bournmouth Airport and didn't arrive at the hotel until around 11.30ish. We were immidiately upgraded from Montain view room to Sea view room (well... more

Our stay at the Olympic Palace was great, having 4 daughters aged 18/14/12 and 10 we felt there was enough entertainment for all. The animation team were great fun and the food and service was excellent. In addition on half board if you did'nt want to dine in the evening... more

Awesome Holiday!!
Got home yesterday.. and want to go back already!! I don't know what the person below is going on about, there are 4 pools, for children, adults etc, also an indoor pool. As for the rooms.. I admit it wasn't the most comfortable bed, but I wasn't bothered. We were more interested in laying by the pool at 41 degrees, soaking up the sun!! And admiering the gorgeous view from our room. There is plenty for the children to do, so there isn't young children running riot all day. It's a lovely, relaxing place to stay and I would recommend going there!! They have an awesome pool bar where me and my boyfriend spent alot of time ;-) hehe. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Not far from Rhodes town.. Which is beautiful! You must visit it!! Had an amazing holiday, thanks to all the staff, and hope to see you again :-D Becca, 17, Norfolk UK
Not if you want 4/5*
I can only assume that the photos here of the rooms are either super-superior rooms or that the hotel has had a massive make over. My biggest problem was with the rooms, they are 2/3 star really, and the beds rock hard and very slim. The worst bed I've ever slept in, so if you suffer back problems, don't go here. Our room was so basic, old stained furniture, very bare, that I asked for another and we were moved to more like a suite which had a dining table and hob. Still not nearly 4* standard though. We also got ants, so don't leave any food lying around. Aside from the room, the hotel was nice, I didn't see 4 pools.... Only 2, so they must have some hidden away somewhere. Food was ok, the same every night pretty much, with a couple of nights to order from a menu. Breakfasts were very good. Pool area was excellent, though we listened to the same CD over and over about 3 times a day. The entertainment team worked very hard. The resort itself is poor. Only a main road with some supermarkets and restaurants and bars showing football matches (my partner was chuffed about that). The beach was coarse and you definitely need shoes to go into the sea. We only went there once. Spent a day in Lindos which is also very lovely, and a fantastic beach with soft sand and warm sea. Rhodes old town is beautiful - have a few nights out there and it'll be worth the trip. Really very nice. In fact, I'd go B&B and spend your evenings in Rhodes town - only a cheap taxi ride away. All in all, I was disappointed with the holiday, I was expecting more and have decided this year to spend more and get a real 5* rather than a pretend one.
Booking Again !
When we booked we came on this website and saw some horrible comments. After coming to the hotel i cant see why these comments were on there . i am in the hotel now on the hotels cheap internet access with top of the range computers. we booked with Tomas Cook and a soon as we got our bags Tomas Cook rep. was there and took us to the coach we then had a 10 minute journey to the hotel. The Following morning we got invited to a meeting with our reps and some other people from the hotel also booked with Tomas cook and got to no some good tips. The Hotel has 4 swimming pools, and can be for all ages. you walk out of the hotel on to a fantastic view beach. The food for breakfast is fantastic. Serving English foods. Our room had a safe that was only 18euro for 2 weeks. A bath in the bathroom not a shower. I am whittling this now 2nd day into our holiday and i will do another comment an the end.
unforgetable!
Unforgetable vacation at the Olympic Palace Hotel! I wish we could get back! I and my boyfriend have just returned from a 5-day stay at the Olympic Palace Hotel (21/7/2007-26/7/2007). Our room was on the 7th floor and had an incredible sea view! Very comfortable, fully air conditioned, spacious bathroom, but what we enjoyed the most was the balcony with its sun beds where we could lay and enjoy the beautiful view to the sea! Thankfully we booked a seaview room which is the only way to stay at this hotel as the rooms on the other side of the hotel are looking at a cliff face. It's important to remember this in case you are planning to stay at this hotel, as this will definitely make or ruin your holiday. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast of hot and cold food with plenty of choices. Don't forget to try the "bougatsa", it was excellent. The staff was very friendly especially to not Greeks!!! We also had clean towels and bedding every day, which was very nice and we were very satisfied of the laundry service of the hotel. The pool complex (4 pools) is very good, especially for families with children, with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas and a pool bar, clean and reasonably priced. The Olympic Palace had more than we were looking for and I would have no hesitation in recommending it as an excellent hotel and base from which to explore the beautiful island of Rhodes.
Cant wait to go back
we just got back from our stay at the olympic palace in rhodes a week ago and we loved it so much that we had to book to go back in september. I would recomend this hotel to everyone and had no complaints whatsoever. We opted for a seaview room which absolutly made our holiday. The balcony was massive and the view was amazing. We loved the lazy days by the pool with the animation team keeping us amused with music, water polo, water gym, darts, football and much more. The pool area was really clean and we especially loved the pool bar as you could sit on the stools in the water. The mini golf at the hotel is great we played it loads. The food at the hotel was great and there was always a good selection of food on the buffet and some nights there as an optional menu aswell. I would particularly recomend the italian night. The roof top bar was lovely with amazing views across ixia and iallysoss and again the animation team provided the entertainment which was very funny at times. Everyone who worked at the hotel was very friendly and we will be back for years to come
**kids loved it and so did mum & dad**
Our stay was for 1 week from 20th June - 27th June, for a family of 4.The worst bits of our holiday had nothing to do with the hotel, it was Rhodes airport, on arrival to get your bags there`s no information as to were to go,and your bags are just throwen on 2 or 3 high at a time. And when your at departures for your journey home it was just a farce no body seem to know were to go for check in and when you did find out, you had to wait out side in a long line in the sun with all your bags. Well now lets tell you about the hotel, Yes the hotel is dated as some reviews have said, but every were is clean and tidy the hotel staff were helpful and very pleasent, our room was cleaned and beddding and towels changed every day.We already had a sea view room booked before going, the views out to sea are really lovely, and you have sun on your patio all day, if you do get a mountain view room they are smaller and not a lot of light comes through into your room so it may seem dark and dingy,so take this into concideration when booking. We spent most of our day around the pool as i felt happy that my children were safe, there was never a problem getting 4 sunbeds were we wonted them, we used to go to the pool about 9.15am.We were on half board for our food we had breakfast which is a buffet style, instead of an evening meal we had dinner at the pool side resturant, you just give them your room number then just pay for your drinks, if it wasnt for the terrible Rhodes airport i would go again to olympic palace, but i just could not face the airport again.
Not Quite good enough
We have just returned from a seven night stay in the Olympic Palace. We arrived in middle of night and our check in was efficient. When we arrived at our room we found it to be clean and modern. However, the rooms lacked the little touches that make a difference, small things like robes, slippers, sewing kit etc., also the bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, extremely firm and we both suffered terrible back pain for the week! The lifts are not good, too small and people keep overloading them. The food was very average, never hot and the choice was poor. Entertainment was terrible, worst we have experienced. The staff were all wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Ixia as a resort at this time of year is very quiet which did suit us but a better standard of entertainment at the hotel would have been nice. Having stayed at the Hilton in Ixia September 06 the Olympic Palace was certainly a class below. We would however recommend the beach in front of the hotel where you pay 3.50 for a lounger for the day, it is very well kept.
Had a great time, get a sea view room though!!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Olympic Palace during an 11 night stay from 12th May. Having read the reviews prior to our holiday, i went back to the travel agent to try and book a sea view room. She said that apparantly there were no available sea view rooms for when we were staying (which turned out to be untrue). If you book and they promise you a free upgrade to a sea view room if there is one available upon arrival, don't believe it. Olympic Palace don't give free upgrades- you have to pay a supplement. We arrived at the hotel at about 12 midnight and the night time staff were unhelpful, telling us to return in the morning if we wanted a seaview room. (by the way if you arrive this late there is a kebab type place called FBI's down the road that are open until about 2 in the morning & do nice food) The view from the back of the hotel wasn't nice, but if you aren't spending a lot of time in your hotel room it might be ok. we opted to pay the €5 per person per night supplement for the remainder of our stay, although they couldnt allocate us a sea view room until 2 days after we had arrived, so we couldnt unpack until then. when we moved into our sea view room, the view really was lovely and it brightened up the room so much more. The rest of our holiday was amazing, I can't fault it apart from the weather getting a bit cloudy towards the end, but apart from that brilliant sunshine. The beach in front of the hotel is shingle so not that good for sunbathing, although we did hire out a jetski one day which was fun. If you want to hire out quad bikes to explore the island go to the one out of the left of the hotel. You can hire 1 for €20 for the whole day. The swimming pool at the hotel was lovely, and around this time of year it is not too busy so we didnt need to get up early for a sunbed. the poolbar staff were very friendly and chatty. We had bed & breakfast so I can't really comment on lunch & dinner food, but for breakfast there was a lot of variety and we found something to eat every day. the maids are also very friendly and clean the rooms every day, and also tidy up your mess. the balconies in the room are very spacious, and i would recommend watching the sunset behind Turkey from the rooftop bar, it really is amazing. if you are booking any trips, don't book them with the rep, you can walk down the road out the right of the hotel and book something for much cheaper. We went to Turkey for the day, probably more of a thing for older people as there was a lot of looking around in the various shops we were taken to. The hotel is more for older people or families, people wanting a quiter holiday, and at this time of year the bars and restaurants are pretty quiet so if you want nightlife you'd need to get a taxi. There are plenty of restaurants in Ixia, but there are also some nice ones in Old & New Rhodes. Overall our stay at the hotel was lovely, and we would consider going again. Very relaxing.
Great staff, hotel ok
This is the second time my hubby and I have stayed at this hotel, the first being 5 years ago. It's a short transfer to the hotel, about 20 mins. We arrived about 3 in the morning and check in only took 2 mins. The reception area is really nice with plenty of seating and a nice bar to one side. Our room was quite dated, needed new furniture and repainting. The patio doors did not lock either. However, the air conditioning was great, the balcony huge and it was kept very clean with fresh towels and linen every day. Be warned though - we killed on average 5 mozzies a day in our room. Also, the cleaners are the most noisy ever! They start about 7 in the morning and always seemed to be having staff meetings outside our door. But saying that, we were quite close to the stairs and the cleaner's stores so that might have been part of the reason for the noise but they do talk, A LOT! Get a sea view room if you can, the hotel looks across the sea to Turkey. We were on the 4th floor, get a room higher if you can because I think the decor improves the higher you go. The room safe was 18 euro for two weeks. The restaurant food was reasonably good with a vast selection for breakfast, something for everyone. Our only real complaint about breakfast was the disgusting diluted orange juice instead of fresh juice and that there could have been a wider selection of fresh fruit instead of just melon. In the evenings there is greek, italian, Olympic and international buffets and on other nights the main course is served to your table, a choice of two. On these nights there is still other main dishes in a buffet. You can have from one course up to about five or six consisting of soup (it was never the same twice), salad (fab salad buffet), main, desserts, fresh melon and ice cream. Again in the evenings there was a large variety of food, however we were there for two weeks and after a week it started to get a bit boring. We ate out about 4 or 5 times and can recommend the Posideonia (great steaks and live music) and the Jason Inn. Our least favourite meal in the hotel oddly was the greek buffet because all the mains seemed rather greasy. A small carafe of house wine is 5 euro or a large 10 euro. The pool area is nice with a swim-up bar. A large beer is 3 euro, fizzy soft drink 2 euro 40, cocktail 6 euro 50. These prices seemed to be the same throughout the hotel. We normally put our towels out (I know!) around 0845 - 0900 hrs and there were loads to choose from and beds and brollies are free. You can hire beach towels from the hotel shop for 10 euro deposit each but they are not changed. The entertainment team at the hotel are fab. One is English, three are Polish and one is Albanian. English is well spoken and also German and French. Daily activites from 1000 - 1700 hrs included stretching exercises, water polo, water aerobics, darts, table tennis, French boules and football. A kids club also runs all day with different activities separate from the adults. On Thursdays and Fridays there is an opportunity to try scuba diving and snorkelling in the pool. The scuba diving/snorkelling trip with Dive Med college is highly recommended. In the evening at the rooftop bar there is karaoke, music quiz (be warned, drinking game!), general knowledge quiz, Miss Olympic Palace competion, Best Couple Competition, bingo, kids disco and a greek evening. These are also ran by the entertainment team apart from the greek night and karaoke. There is a mini golf course at the front of the hotel. There is also a small gym at the hotel but its awful. No air conditioning, no music, no clock. The running machine had a hole in the treadmill, the bikes worked but were not plugged in and the free weights supplied could be lifted by four year olds! There was also a step machine. Beware of the timeshare touts. They will either be lurking in the street or stop beside you on a moped. The road through Ixia is VERY busy and mainly consists of supermarkets and restaurants. The BEST cocktails are at The White Corner - 3.50 euro each (walk until you come to a Chinese, the bar is beside it). The bus to Rhodes stops right outside the entrance to the hotel - 1 euro 80 each way, takes about 10 - 15 minutes. We walked to Rhodes town also which took about 1.5 hrs. A couple of trips to Rhodes town is recommended. Lindos is also a good trip but the boat ride is about 2.5 hrs each way. The beach at Ixia is generally horrible, it's stoney and not very clean in places. We also saw a rat on our walk back from Rhodes. If you like the beach it's better to go to the east side of the island where all the beaches are sandy. I think this hotel needs to work a bit on the decor to justify the 4 star rating - it wasn't as nice as we'd remembered but it definately deserves it for the fantastic staff throughout the hotel.
Loved It!!!
My boyfriend and I wanted a quiet, lazy week in the sun and I am pleased to say that is exactly what we got!! The people in this hotel and resort are the friendliest you will find, the food was great (we were half board) and there are plenty of shops and bars, plus the bus to Rhodes Town is cheap and stops right outside the hotel. I read the reviews on this site after booking and was a little concerned about reports of tired décor and cliff face views. I accordingly changed our booking to include a sea view room and it was well worth the extra cost. The balcony was huge and the views were breathtaking, and I can only assume that the décor had recently been updated because our room was modern and immaculately clean. The pool area is also fantastic, particularly at this time of year as we could get a sunbed up until around lunchtime every day. The lifts. Oh dear, these are not good, there are 4 lifts holding a max 4 people and they are very slow, stopping apparently on a random basis, though I suspect that this is hotel patrons randomly pressing all buttons and jumping in the first lift that arrives. We were on the 7th floor so stairs were not really an ideal option. Although frustrating, we found it quite amusing as we were never in a rush to get anywhere and it was a very small price to pay for what was an idyllic week of relaxation. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, the staff are friendly and helpful, both within the hotel and around the resort/island and I’m sure that I will return to Rhodes and this hotel.
