We stayed at the Matina as a group of 4 friends. We had 2 studios which although basic were everything we needed. We had great views of the sea and terraces which were great for sunbathing. The appartments were cleaned regularly although not as clean as they could have been, a deep clean would enhance the appartments considerably. The reception staff were fantastic, the night porter who booked us in at an unearthly hour in the morning retained his sense of humour throughout!! The beach is a short 2 minute stroll down a hill and is sandy and safe for children, the sea is warm and has shoals of fish swimming around which is great for snorkellers!! The Maria supermarket was very reasonable and had everything we needed. We ate at Dama Dama, the Greek Taverna opposite the appartments and le beach bar where we watched a stunning sunset as we ate, all restaurants gave excellent service and value for money.
We hired a car for €80 for 3 days and explored the Island, stopping at tavernas and beaches as we went. The Butterfly farm was a disapointment as there was only one species of butterly. Lindos beach was great but a long walk down hill and what appeared to be an even longer up hill on the way back, you could of course hire a donkey!! The pool at the Matina is probably one of the best we have been in, always clean and usually plenty of sunbeds to be had. The entertainment was varied but not always well attended. we went to the BBQ which was nothing special and the Quiz night which we did not win!! Overall we had a fantastic time and would definatley reccomend both the appartments and the resort for a relaxing holiday.

My partner and our little boy went last september. What a lovely accomdation, what lovely staff who helped run it. Very clean tidy and well presented, couldn't fault it for the world. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis with lovely friendly cleaning staff. We would recommend this hotel to young, single, families, elderly they cater for all.Evening entertainment was good, childrens club was good from what we heard off other families, our son was to young to go in it last year, they also had a lovely childrens play area. This hotel should have a reward, it was fantastic that we are off back there in 4 weeks and cant wait.

We stayed at the Matina as a group as we were all there to attend a family wedding, which took place at St Pauls Bay in Lindos, which may I add was absolutely fabulous.
The book in on arrival was very well organised considering the whole coach load were staying there. The apartment was very basic but we found it had everything we needed. It was value for money. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Stergio was as written about. He remembered all our names. The resort itself was a lovely place, full of restuarants and bars. The Greeks are very friendly people and seem to really like the English. We ate 2 or 3 times in a little restuarant called Delizia which had a roof top to eat on. The people there were very friendly and the food was delicious and quite a reasonable price. We also ate at Dama Dama Restuarant which was just on the road up from the Matina. They were equally as friendly and the food there was also delicious. We also enjoyed meals in Armetis, Nostalgia and breakfast in Pefcos by Night which is fully air conditioned. They had a barbeque night at the Matina which wasn't that brilliant but was ok. They also had a greek night which was very good. The food was lovely and the greek dancers were excellent and had everyone up dancing. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. On the whole the holiday was a success and we would definately go back again, but not in August, it was far too hot. Air conditioning is a must at that time of the year.

My wife, two children (10 & 6) and I stayed for two weeks at the Matina. I would highly recommend the location and accomodation for a relaxing family holiday. The weather was very hot up to 48 degrees but the pool at the Matina was very clean and refreshing. Also the fabulous beach is literally 60m away with golden sand and the clear blue sea which is bath temperature! Sunbeds are available on the beach for 4 Euros a day and you can get one at 10 or 11 in the morning. The sunbeds at Matina in peak season have to be bagged before 8.30am though.
Rooms are of a good size, we had four beds rather than a sofa bed for one which was pleasing. The air con was a must for us and cost 130 Euros for two weeks. The saftey deposit box located in reception was 16 Euros but both well worth the money. Our only concerns were the lack of view from the room terrace (although it would depend on the room you get) and the maid service was below average. We weren't sure when the sheets or towels were changed and the room hadn't had a good clean under the beds and around the windows for some time. Having said that the main areas were clean and comfortable.
Food and drink available at the Matina is great quality and at a competitive price, but you are better off just having breakfast and snacks here with many superb restaurants a short walk away. We would recommened restaurants such as "Artemis", "Two Brothers", "Nostalgia" (roof top), "Terpsis" and "Smile Garden". As a family with younger children you will find "Jasmines" bar and "Fuse Too" bar a must with play areas and activities to keep the youngsters amused. The ice creams and crepes at Jasmines are good too.
There is a great range of well known branded products and friendly service available at "Maria's" supermarket who we found to be the cheapest also. Maria's is on the main beach road just up from the Matina. There are also two pool bars on this road also which you can use if you fancy a change from the Matina pool.
If you fancy an excursion the glass bottom boat for less than 20 euros each is a must.
Overall you'll find it hard to get a warmer welcome than at the Matina and we'll definately go back again one day.

Stayed at the Matina for 2 weeks in...

Jul 2008, Miss E Harvey

Stayed at the Matina for 2 weeks in July, rooms basic but fine, let's face it you are never in it apart from to sleep and shower. Ant's were a problem, but we bought a spray and sprayed the whole room, never saw another ant after that. Stergos barman and Dimitri could not have been more friendly, reception staff also very friendly. The pool area very large and plenty sunbeds although the pool could have been a bit more cleaner. Did not have problems getting sundbeds the first week, could go down at 10.00am and get a lounger, the 2nd week you had to be down at the pool by 7.30 to bag a lounger. Stairs leading to apartments very slippy, fell down then and injured myself, could do with handrails. Would recommend the Greek House opposite Matina for food, fanastic sea food, also Nostalgia and the colissium, infact most of the restaurants were great, could not fault any of them. Pefkos by night bar is fully air conditioned and believe me you will need it, would recommend hiring the boat down at the beach, $45 euros for 1 hour for 5 people, excellent. Went to Lindos, found this very busy and again the slippery tiles were hard to keep your feet on so make sure you wear sensible shoes if you go upto the Acropollis. take the aircon £70 euros for 1 bed apt, it is a blessing.

Before I went to Matina I read all the reviews I could, so thought I would write my own now I have experienced it for myself!!
Matina Apartments is excellent, the facilities are great, the apartments have everything you need, the TV channels could be a bit more varied but you can watch TV at home!! The air con was the best 70 Euros I spent. The weather was perfect and the second week was a "heatwave" so the air con was very welcome at night! Can highly recommend the Greek Night. Well worth the meagre 10 Euros charged. The food is great and plentiful!! The greek band and dancers were fantastic!! Harry the drummer is awesome!!
The play area is great with its own baby pool. (Altho my baby is 17!!!) He was very pleased with the 5 computers with very reasonable internet access (2 Euros for 32 mins) and I made full use of the book exchange in reception.
The staff at Matina were second to none, the bar staff were great, very friendly. The whole place is very clean, the apartments cleaned daily except sundays.
You are close to all the bars and restaurants without being bang in the middle, the beach is a stones throw and is gorgeous. The best Restaurant we found was Enigma, at the end of the road, and the most expensive was Lee's, near the beach. 50 Euros for 2, starter and main course. I had the best steak I have ever tasted at Engima and 2 courses with wine and beer cost 28 Euros!! Bargain!
We hired a car for 3 days and after shopping around Marathon seemed most competitive. I had never driven abroad before but the hiring was very easy. Relating the map to the roads was a little more difficult but we figured you couldn't get lost if you didn't know where you are going. If you do hire a car, I would recommend finding Agathaos Beach, we stumbled across it and its great.
I would recommend the glass bottom boat trip!! The "captain" is hilarious, playing Jaws theme once in the water, and wait to see what he offers to someone without a swimming costume!!!
Overall a fantastic holiday!! Am definitely going back!! (Sorry Vaso!! CRAZY CRAZY!!!)

First of all from reading the other reviews I notice that alot have said the apartments are 'basic', I would like to know what they mean by this, as far as I am concerned our apartment had; Kettle, microwave, fridge freezer, TV, hair dryer, soaps, towels, cutlery, corkscrew, ice tray, plently of storage space, coat hangers etc, what more do people want?? The only gripe I do have with regard to the room is I thought the cleaner could of been a bit more thorough.
Aside from this I found the Matina a great place to stay. There is a large play ground for the kids, friendly staff, and loads of sun loungers by the pool. There is lovely area by the reception with wicker sofas and comfy cushions where you can chill out, with great views of the beach. The kids also enjoyed the games area with air hockey and pool tables.
Pefkos has a real laid back feel to it, with plenty of tavernas and bars etc. It is also very family friendly with many bars offering little tykes toys and trampolines etc.
We rate the collisium restaurant as our favourite and a visit to the eclipse bar is a must! Also the glass bottom boat trip was fantastic and good value for money.
I would recommend the Matina and we are hoping to return next year.

After seeing mixed reviews on these apartments, my partner and I were abit worried about what to expect when we got there. All I can say is that whoever had a bad stay at the Matina must have been pampered BIG TIME on previous holidays. We all thought the apartment was first class, though basic, but that doesn't matter as it is only a base to sleep. The staff and cleaners were fantastic! We would highly recommend this complex. We would certainly come back next time we visit Pefkos. :)

My husband, our daughter and I have just come back from a fantastic holiday. We can't rate the Matina highly enough. The staff were all friendly. Our apartment was fantastic it was cleaned everyday except on Sunday, the bedding and towels changed every other day. The pool area was busy but there was plenty of sunbeds spare.
The food at the Matina was very nice and very reasonable too.
We will go back and stay at the Matina again without a doubt.

Jun 2008, Miss J.C Collier

As you can see I absolutely LOVED the Matina Apartments. I am only 15 years old but I wanted to tell people what I think about the Matina apartments! Me + my family (My Mum, Dad And sister aged 4) have been to the apartments 3 times so far and are now looking forward to our 4th time as it is such a great hotel and cannot be beaten ! There are lots of fun things to do in and around the apartments for young and old people. The staff that work at the Matina are always friendly and very helpful they are always willing to help make your holiday the best ever. There are also many great bars shops and restaurants near the apartments.
Here are some things I would recommend doing during your visit to the Matina:
1) There is a glass bottom boat ride which takes you to the very pictures St Pauls bay at Lindos, which is very enjoyable for both adults and children. However if there is a large group of you, you can have the option to charter the boat yourselves. You can find the glass bottom boat down near the beach or you can just ask one of the very friendly Matina staff.
2) The Falaraki water park is also a great day out with lots of water slides for all ages. The water park is about a 40 minute drive away from the hotel.
There are also LOTS of other things that you could do but i think that you would want to find out about them or yourselves.
So as you can see whether you are looking for a fun filled action packed holiday or simply a peaceful quiet break the Matina apartments is definitely the place for you!
