Comments:  This was our 7th visit to CP our first to Elveden, all previous visits were to Sherwood. Myself, husband and 2 children all have mixed feelings about the weekend and the whole centre parcs experience.

Firstly our villa was outstanding it was one of the newly built woodland lodges the kitchen and bathroom were modern and inviting and the decor throughout the lodge was well thought out especially the mirror in the bathroom which de-misted on its own!!
One of the only downsides was the lighting was a little dim and the lodge felt a little damp - probably due to the forest on both counts!!

I must however agree with several comments made by previous reviews that the whole centre parcs ethos seems to be changing. Whether it is that money has become a major factor and corners are being cut we are not sure. We did think that the village seemed more overcrowded than ever before - we are not sure whether this was because we had booked during a school holiday - all be it right at the end or if the village is just so much larger than Sherwood? The number of bikes and people was amazing and you literally took a deep breath and hoped that you managed to weave between the crowds to get anywhere!! We did notice more large groups of late teens and early 20's around the park especially noticeable in the swimming pool - the lifeguards were having a hard time trying to control them and this can be very off putting especially if you have little ones in the pool or on the slides? This was also apparent at night something which we have not ever encountered before.

The pool area was great fun and the boys and us thought the slides and rapids were fantasitc - however the cleanliness of the pool and the state of some of the lockers was not as good as it should be.

The food prices I thought were not too bad and on a parr with most of the major supermarkets minus the special offers. We ate out at Bella Pasta which food and service were fine, Hucks was ok and the new Forresters Inn was average.

The bar prices are high - but the same at most holiday parks where ever you go at the moment.

On the whole we enjoyed our time at CP the boys enjoyed tree treking, football and cartoon making, as well as numerous games of pool!!

We can't help thinking though that CP is starting to change not necessarily for the better such a shame as the concept is fantastic - will we return? maybe to another park to see if this still has whats missing...?

Comments:  Have just returned from a 3 night weekend break at Elveden and it was our first visit there. Because of building work behind the original villa we booked we were changed to a larger 4 bed woodland villa and it was nearer to the village square so we were extremely pleased with that as they did this before we arrived. The accommodation was fine, very overpriced though. The outside of the villas were very disappointing. My kids took cricket stuff, badminton rackets, football etc but there was no room to play it. There were bushes and stinging nettles everywhere so there was no open space to play anything except on the road, where you get constant cyclists so it is not really safe. I highly recommend taking your own cycles like we did. The park is massive and luckily we were a 10 min walk to the village square but riding my bike about I would not of been happy if we were stuck on the outskirts of the park, the que of people waiting for bikes too was horrendous. The village square is nice enough, we did not use the restaurants as we cooked in our villa. We went bowling on the Sat night and a round of 3 alcoholic drinks and 3 soft drinks (2 kids ones) came to £15. The swimming was great. It is open from 10am-9.45pm so we got there at 9.45am and got changed and waited to be let in ! We had no probs getting cubicles or lockers, however there was a lot that seemed broken. The outdoor rapids were brill and there were 2 flumes for 2 yrs upwards and another slide for 3 yrs up. There was also an outdoor salt pool, treasure cove, which was for the little ones but freezing cold so stayed in there for all of 2 mins ! There was also the main pool with wave machine and lazy river. There was plenty of seats and refreshments available so if you don't want to swim you can sit and watch, buggies are not allowed in so if you have a baby you will have to hold them. The pool was busy but not packed, the best time to go is in the evening as it is really quiet then. It rained all day Saturday so the sports plaza and indoor shops were packed with lots of people dithering about. We booked 1 badminton court, 1 game of bowling, 2 pony rides and a horse carriage ride for 2 adults and 2 kids and it came to £79.50. You could spend an absolute fortune there but we stuck with bike riding, swimming, play areas etc. We hired a pedalo for 30 mins which was £8 and my hubby and Dad played golf which was £8 plus clubs. To be honest the pony rides were very over-priced at £11.50 each for 10 mins around the woods but the joy on my kids faces was worth it. The carriage ride was £24 for 20 mins and it takes upto 12 people but babies under 1 are not allowed on. My parents went on with my kids and they loved it but again was overpriced for what it was. Bowling was £25 for an hour and the six of us just finished 1 game with minutes to go as it warns you how much time you have left. All in all we had a lovely weekend and hardly spent anything as we ate in so you make it as expensive as you want. I pre-booked activities so they were already paid for. We got the discount to go again and we probably will but next time I will not bother with horse riding and bowling and stick to swimming, biking and book a few courts for the kids to play tennis etc. We got there at 10am but you have to park your car and the gates to the villas do not open til 3pm so we had to hang about for 5 hours then there was a mass rush to get your car and get in the que to get through. This gave us the chance though to have a good look about and get a drink and lunch, next time though will get there a bit later. Would recommend Centerparcs and take your own food and bikes and make it as expensive as you want.

Comments:  Returned yesterday from CP Elveden, having previously visited some four other times. My family and I are great fans of CP, as there is always plenty to do. This time however, whilst our accommodation was acceptable (we stayed in 2 bed exec), the general upkeep of the village was well below par. I am not one to complain, but the swimming pool was filthy, with dirty plasters floating in the water, as well as sitting poolside. The steps to the pool needed a good clean as there was dirt and fungus (algea) on them. This in itself was enough to put me off. The pool manager did say he would get his team to do a thorough clean that evening, but in my mind this should be done as a matter of course. The slides were also all looking tired and worn and in need of some urgent maintenance. As if this was not enough the majority of lockers were either poorly numbered or not numbered at all, many were missing straps and we spent over an hour trying to locate our belongings.

Something is slipping at centre parcs and costs appear to be getting cut to the detriment of the visiting holidaymaker.

As we don't like to cook when we go away, we took advantage of the restaurants. La Saphiniere was great, as was Bella Italia with good service and reasonably priced food, Hucks was less so, with a long wait to be seated, and watery cocktails where the bar staff were not trained and added too much ice, but overall we had a pleasant evening there. However, beware of the country club and the new restaurant there. Unless things dramatically improve the service is worse than dire. 30 minute wait for a coffee, then a further 30 minutes before breakfast was served, this was after finding our own menus and asking could we be served! We gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and returned on the departure day only for more of the same - totally frustrating!

Other holidaymakers who are regulars at CP had mentioned that it seemed to be going downhill whilst chatting in the parks. I hope this is just a temporary blip and they have plans to update and get back on track. I heard they had been taken over by Americans and the new owners were driving costs down - perhaps this is why such a difference was noticed.

I will need convincing to return. We did, aside from the above have a good time, as my children love the wildlife and all of the attractions the parc has to offer. Might have to have a break, and wait until friends let me know it has improved again.

Comments:  Just got back from midweek break at Elveden. Went once before YEARS ago, not long after it opened and remembered it as pretty special.

This time we were really lucky with the weather and we swam, cycled & walked loads. We had a 3 bed Comfort Plus Villa (with 2 TVs, DVD player, Dishwasher etc) and I don't think it was as nice as the one we had years ago.

The setting is fine, the staff were helpful and we felt quite relaxed. We took quite a bit of food and the kitchen had everything we needed. The frying pan had seen better days and the non-stick coating was coming off in chunks. I saw some cleaning staff at a villa close by and mentioned it and within half an hour I was brought a brand new one!

Although we had a dishwasher, there was nowhere near enough cutlery & crockery. So if we had a cup of tea at breakfast and a coffee later, that would be all the cups used. (6 in a 3 bed villa) So you either wash them by hand or run the dishwasher with very little in which is not very eco friendly. There was quite a musty smell as we walked in and all week I kept getting this same smell coming up from the kitchen plug hole. So I left the plug in all the time!!

I do think £22 EACH for a bike ( Mon-Fri) is very expensive ... considering you DO really need one if you are in a more remote part of the park as we were. Half of that would be acceptable.

Didn't eat in any of the restaurants because they didn't look all that inviting. Supermarket prices on site were pretty dear - they wanted nearly £2 for SIX free range eggs! I get a DOZEN for £1.20 at local farms.

Overall - we DID enjoy our stay but felt the accommodation was a bit tired-looking. Hem of curtains in lounge was undone, most curtains were not hooked up at ends (I sorted those myself because they bugged me!) and windows were rather grimey. Beds were SUPERBLY comfortable (Sealy) and made up with lovely crisp white sheets. Bathroom was very basic but OK. Dining area and lounge were both OK.

Lovely wildlife and everso peaceful but villa pretty dark (obviously because we were amongst trees) which I imagine could be off putting in bad weather.

Comments:  Our holiday with Centreparcs Thetford was fantastic. The overall experience was relaxed not least to the babysitting services by one of their employees called, Julie whom our children loved.

She was so wonderful with our children, a pure natural, and we felt so relaxed with her we would certainly go back ....

Comments:  As a special birthday treat, my husband decided to treat myself and our 2 children to a long weekend at Center Parcs.
Having spent almost 6 hours travelling (5 of which were spent stationary on the A14 after the road had been closed) we were relieved to finally arrive at our destination.
I had previously had the pleasure of visiting Center Parcs at Sherwood Forest last year and could not praise it enough.
On arrival we collected our keys and drove to our 'executive' acommodation.
As we entered the villa I was, to say the least, extremely disappointed. The villa had a fusty smell and was tatty with dirty marks on the walls, radiators and doors. The enamel on the hydrobath was flaking and dirty around the outside and the plug had been ripped off. The BBQ was a few beezeblocks stacked on top of one another and not even cemented together. The curtains across the patio doors were on metal runners which were difficult and awkward to pull and the fire guard was broken.
These are just a few of the things that we noticed during our first 5 minutes of being inside the property.
We swiftly went to seek someone to complain to and on returning to the arrivals point we were directed to a manager.
Having explained our disappointment the manager offered a 'cleaner' to "turn the place around and put some kind of humidifier inside the villa to abolish the smell...but you may have to wait for up to an hour".
When I explained that a 'cleaner' would not solve all the issues I was told that there were no other villas available because "it is a bank holiday weekend you know!".
To make matters worse, our conversation was taking place in the arrivals point with other members of staff walking by and listening in with the occasional 'snigger'.
The only thing left to do was to ask for our money back. We originally paid by credit card and was advised it would be back on our card within a week. When I asked for some kind of receipt or compliment slip to confirm this I was told "you will just have to take our word for it!".
At no point were we offered an apology and I am astonished at the level of service we recieved from a company with such a high reputation. Not only that, to think our 3 day stay cost us almost £600, what a complete rip off!
Never to return....let this be a warning!

Comments:  My Girlfriend and I wanted a short relaxing break, whilst doing something fairly healthy. Center Parcs seemed like a good idea, it was local, and everything you need is there, so no use of the car for the week.

We booked a new style Woodland Lodge, it was great, modern decor, very clean, everything we needed was there, we took our own food, thinking the on-site supermarket would be expensive, but it was on a par with Sainsbury's.

We booked a week long pass for the Aqua Sana, which makes more economic sense, £65 each for the 4 day pass as opposed to £40 for three hours - you do the maths! and 3 hours is no-where near long enough, we booked various treatments too, massages, Rieki, Serail Suite, these were all at extra cost, but you can do as much or as little as you like.

The Sub-Tropical Swimming Paradise is awesome, we went at about 8 in the evening, less children in there then, and no queueing for the Flumes!

We ate out a couple of times, The Indian Restaurant is expensive, but excellent, and the Bella Italia is what you expect to pay on the High Street.

We found the Staff very helpful and friendly. absolutely no complaints there.

Upon arriving home we had a "Welcome Home" e-mail waiting for us, offering 25% off our next visit, so we have booked our next Visit already!

So To Sum Up:

It is as Expensive as you make it.

If you plan on a lot of activities it will become more expensive.

The only thing that is "Free" is the Tropical Swimming Paradise.

Very Friendly Helpful Staff.

Something for absolutely everyone, but you will have to pay.

It's not the cheapest holiday by far, but then there is so much to do, all in walking/cycling distance.

There are 5 grades of accommodation so you should be able to find a villa for your budget.

Be flexible about the date of your holiday, Summer prices are 4 times more expensive than spring time.

If doing a lot of activities, keep a diary! You may end up missing something out!

All in all, we had a great time, and thoroughly recommend Center Parcs to anyone.

Comments:  I've been to Elveden Forest a number of times now and I'm beginning to realise that it's a lot of money to pay for what you get. The lodges are nothing special and in fact are looking very dated inside. They're basic accommodation, nothing more. The furniture and appliances are adequate although I'd like to be able to see a picture on the TV when I switch it on and not a screen full of 'snow'. A bit more attention to detail wouldn't go amiss. The grounds at Elveden are very pleasant and the wildlife you can see coming up to your patio area is amazing. Ducks, Squirrels, Rabbits and Deers all come looking for food around the lodges.
Everything you buy at Centerparcs seems pricey which seems like a kick in the teeth as you've paid quite a lot to get there in the first place. The restaurants are nothing special either so I'd recommmend that you take plenty of your own food instead.
The activities you can do at Elveden are very good. I usually take on the mountain biking trek through nearby Thetford Forest which I thoroughly enjoy, usually in wet weather!!
The Aqua Sana experience is very relaxing but once again pricey. We paid £45 each for a day pass to the facilities. All in all Centerparcs is a nice place to go for a short break. But sadly the cost of everything mounts up quite quickly and you're left wondering if there isn't a cheaper alternative.

Comments:  We had been to Centerparcs about 4 times and had become disappointed - the accommodation was very tired and the restaurants over-priced and the quality of the food dire.

The only good points was the Swimming Paradise, the fab Aqua Sana and the fact that our young daughter loved going there. So we gave it a rest for a couple of years.

However, we ventured back in November 2007 for our 10 year old daughter's birthday, taking along a little friend as well. WELL! What a difference a couple of years made! Firstly we stayed in the Woodland Lodge accommodation which was FANTASTIC! It felt modern and comfy and was very clean (the cleaners though had only just started cleaning when we arrived at 4pm but we headed off swimming and came back to a clean lodge).

The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in (even better than out own at home!). The kitchen was well kitted out and the crockery was modern and tasteful, as were all the matching appliances. My only criticism is that bathroom felt a bit "bog-Standard" - it was not as luxurious as the rest of the lodge.

We have been very pleased to see that Centerparcs is finally acknowledging that their own restaurants are rubbish by introducing Bella Italia and Cafe Rouge. About time. Only Bella Italia was operational when we visited, with Cafe Rouge in the process of construction.

We didn't bother going to Centerparcs own ones (the mediocrity of the Pancake House is still a fresh memory) but went to Bella Italia for supper which was excellent - we had delicious steaks, cooked exactly to our own preferences. The bill was in line with what you'd expect to pay at BI on the high street, service was quick and friendly.

The girls loved Centerparcs and couldn't get enough of the swimming paradise. We had to drag them out of there at 9.30 pm before we got kicked out at closing time!

We did our usual trips to the Aqua Sana, which I combined with a Decleor facial, As always, it was a heavenly experience, and Centerparcs wins hands down in the spa stakes. A new addition to the Aqua Sana are the water beds dotted about over the spa, including out on the open air balcony, together with warm furry (mock) throws and cushions. Just pure relaxing bliss!

Overall an excellent time and we are going back again this weekend, this time we're trying out Sherwood as it was a last minute booking (literally the night before!) and Elveden was sold out!

I would really recommend Centerparcs - yes it is pricey, but it’s worth it and your children will have a permanent smile on their faces!

Comments:  Wide range of accommodation to suit everybody’s needs at Elveden Forest from the new Woodland Lodge to the luxury of an Exclusive Lodge.

There's something for everyone at Elveden Forest and you can do as much or as little as you like. First-class leisure facilities provide for active relaxation and relaxed activity.

There's plenty of scope for everyone to do their own thing.

Comments:  We booked at the last minute over the internet and didn't know what to expect.

We managed to get a Executive Villa which was nice and spacious and clean although the decor was a bit tired. The Villa exceeded our expectations in terms of mod cons e.g. dishwasher, DVD player, mini hifi etc.

Eating out was expensive and the portions were below average but nevertheless we still had a great weekend. Our children aged 7 & 3 loved every minute, especially the sub tropical swimming paradise and the chance of being able to cycle around with no cars.

We thought the surrounding area and landscape was beautiful and very peaceful including the abundance of wildlife passing by and the daily morning visit from the ducks! We didn't have enough time in 3 days to fit all the activities in we wanted to do & wished we stayed for another day.

All the staff were very helpful especially the chaps in the cycle hire centre (we recommend you hire bikes as soon as you arrive if you don't take your own). After visiting Centre Parcs we definitely will be going back as soon as we can. We found there to be lots of child play areas which meant we could have a coffee and watch the children.

One word of advice take your own food because it's not cheap to dine out for the whole holiday and you have plenty of facilities to cook with.

Comments:  I personally don't understand how people can give center parcs bad reviews. It's a great place with great atmosphere! I'd prefer to spend that bit extra on a Center Parcs holiday (especially with their company policies and general morals) than going to another resort full of tackiness!

It's such a relaxing place and I've always found staff to be more than helpful! I've been to all 4 center parcs in the UK, I've been twice in the last year (once with my partner and the other with 5 friends) and both times were excellent! Fully agree queues are frustrating, but they're also unavoidable with most holidays and family outtings!

It's perfectly done with the opportunity to do as much as you can cram in or chill out and be pampered the whole break! Great for people of all ages as well! I can only say a holiday consists of a few key features; the people you go with, the atmosphere/environment, comfort and choice. My advice to some who sisn't enjoy it... have a re-think about the people you're going with. A good time is only because of what you make it... maybe try a little positivity.

Comments:  With all the mixed reviews we had heard in the past, we were slightly dubious of booking a Centerparc holiday.

But with three small kids and a mix of birthdays coming up, we thought a few days away without too much travel from home & plenty of swimming available would be ok.

We were pleasantly surprised and more than pleased with the whole experience.

On our arrival, we were warmly welcomed at the check in and easily found our comfort villa which was clean & comfortable with plenty of room for the five of us.

After a quick unpacking, we headed out to the subtropical pool that night and had a wonderful time swimming under the stars.

We had done a shop at M&S so had some great food with us but we did still get to sample three of the local restaurants, which while not our usual choice if at home, were all good value.

One lunchtime we bought a hot cooked chicken and a large loaf of olive bread from the supermarket and ate it out in the sunshine, while the kids happily played on the large wooden structure - Bliss!

The kids loved the activities, esp. the wild water rapids, cycling, the high wire and the roller disco.

We spent the mornings watching the wildlife from our window, including rabbits, ducks, squirrels, pheasants and a baby deer. We had fires each evening, toasting marshmallows, snuggled up under blankets, relaxing.

The villa was easy to use and keep clean & tidy and well stocked with crockery etc in the kitchen and plenty of pillows & blankets.

We found all the staff from all departments to be extremely warm & helpful.

Although it wasn't at all the type of holiday that we thought we would ever book, it is now something that we would do again, either for special occasions in a larger group with other family & friends or as a last minute treat just for us as a family.

Comments:  Just returned from our first trip to Center Parcs. After reading reviews and talking to friends we were a little concerned about how expensive all the activities were going to be. YES, the activities are expensive, however, the parc is set is glorious woodland with plenty of trails to walk and plenty of wildlife to try and spot. You really don't have to spend too much money at all, just set a budget before you go. Remember---the swimming pool is FREE (but take a £1 coin (refundable) for the lockers).

Most of the reviews on this site are about the villas, but we stayed at the Lakeside Hotel as there was only two of us and it was great value. The hotels rooms are large and clean with a T.V., stereo and a most welcome fridge; all hotel rooms have a balcony overlooking the lake.

The Elveden site is very large but you can hire bikes (£12 for the day or £21 for the week) this makes it a lot easier to get from place to place and there are plenty of bike parks to lock up your bike.

The food is hit and miss (as we were staying in a hotel room we didn't have the luxury of preparing our own meals). Bella Italia and Cafe Rouge are the probably the best places, we did not try the Indian restaurant. Avoid the pancake hut (stodgy and overpriced).

TRAVEL TIP: - We travelled by train. The official brochure recommends travelling from London Liverpool Street (changing at Norwich) to Thetford. In fact the best (and quickest) way to get there from London is to take the train from Kings X to Cambridge (express service) then get the connection to Thetford (it takes about an hour less). Taxi from Thetford station to the Elveden site cost £15.

Comments:  I can't believe some of the reviews written on the site about Elveden Forest, I just got back on Friday and it was excellent, 10 out of 10!

We paid approx £300 for a Monday-Friday break, we stayed in a 2 bedroom executive villa and it was lovely.

There was something to do for everyone, my mum came with us who is 56 and she went swimming, went to the Spa and did a relaxation class, my daughter who is 10 months, went swimming, took part in baby dolphins and went to baby and toddler time!

My partner and I are 26 and 27 and there was loads to do for us too! I have to admit, the prices in the restaurants are not cheap and yes you do have to pre-book activities in advance but overall the place is lovely.

Everything is so well maintained and clean and the villa was amazing, I didn't want to leave! Elveden is definitely the best; I have also been to Sherwood which I thought was run down and Longleat that was excellent also but a bit hilly.

I think anybody that is looking for a short break who has small children you just can't beat it and it is definitely worth paying a bit more and going for the executive accommodation.
