" Good times! "
Submitted By: emilserOur party consisted of 4 adults, an 18 month old, 2yr old, 4yr old and an 8yr old and there was something for everyone. Our accomodation was a 3 bed original executive lodge. We were able to get away with 3 beds as the 2 youngest are still in cots. Very pleased with the lodge. Very clean, bathrooms spotless, comfy sofas, pans etc in good order (previously stayed in a comfort lodge 2yrs ago and found the cooking utensils were very worn and poor). My only slight gripe is that no plastic plates or cups are supplied in the lodges, which I find strange as they are aimed at families. Luckily no breakages occured! Also, no open fire in these lodges which I hadnt realised.
During our stay rabbits, ducks, moorhens and red squirrels came right to our back door to feed, which delighted the children! Our lodge was very close to the village centre and in retrospect we probably could have made do without hiring bikes. However the cycling was good fun and we got trailers for the youngest children, which they thought was great fun.
To keep costs down we decided not to book too many activities....which was the right thing to do as the children were entertained enough with the free ativities e.g. pool, walks, indoor and outdoor play areas, cycling, feeding ducks etc...there is more than enough to keep little ones entertained without spending a fortune. We did book the teddy bears picnic which was well organised. The staff read popular stories and sang songs and there was plenty to eat in the lunch boxes. The younger children enjoyed it a lot.
We had an early supper at Cafe Rouge one evening which was very nice. Very small soft play area there to keep small ones from becomming too restless between courses. I used Tesco vouchers to pay for this. The 2 mums in the party had a 3 hour twilight spa session at the excellent Aqua Sana which was soooo relaxing....bliss!!! Having a nighttime swim in the outdoor pool surrounded by trees and stars was really quite magical.
Parc Market was very well stocked we felt, but we only needed to use it to stock up as we did a quick Tesco shop en route.
Must also mention the pool area which is excellent. Plenty for younger children, they have their own little slides etc and my 8 yr old nephew enjoyed dragging me round the Canyon ride!
I would recommend you go to Centreparcs with an open mind and enjoy the simple things it has to offer. We enjoyed the car free enviroment, not having the TV on for a whole weekend, playing old faves like Dominos and snakes and ladders....and above all spending quality time with family and friends.
Would return anytime.

Submitted By: Miss S Muirwe were really excited about it as we have had some great haven holidays and thought that this would be better a wee bit of luxury and although in the whole we did enjoy our holiday we did come home extremely dissappointed an a bit dillusioned about the whole thing
on arrival the other car in our party experienced mechianical problems and the staff at check in were so helpful they even took the car took a local garage. so we thought that that was a great start and really looked forward to the rest of the hols
we got in to our lodge in forresters lane and all looked well we even had a wee xmas garland on the door.
there was a smell of urine that got stronger once the door was closed once the toilet had been flushed or the shower had been used a smell of sewage filled the apartment.
there was no internal lock on thefront door and the two 2 years old in our lodge could easily escape even with the chain in they could fit easily through the gap we had to wedge it closed at night with the high chair to stop the kids escaping. the light swithches were at a perfect height for the kids so we spent most of the week in a disco atmosphere as they found it very amusing to flick them on and off. the patio door also did not lock and was easily opened by the toddlers this resulted in one of them stumbling out head first thankfully unharmed. the plug points in the bedroom were right next to the kids beds and the flex for the alarm clock i discovered was hidden under my sons pillow. had i not noticed he probably would have strangled himself in his sleep. the bathroom was dirty there were stains in the toilet and hair in the plugholes and on the tiles
we ate in most nights after ordering some pizzas for an extortionate price only to discover they were only 8" we then had to go to the supermarket to get some more food for tea that night and they had 3 16" pizzas for a 1/3 of the price of our ordered pizzas
we didnt book the kids into any activies as we werent really sure how to go about this so we checked it out when we got there and couldnt book them into anything. what really sticks in my mind is waiting at the kids pace for 45 mins while the 3 staff sitting right in front of us completeley ignored us and then told us they were full up although the list was right in front of us and empty!!!! the time we had stood there they could have painted the kids faces 10times over!!!
the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful all over the park!!!!
the kids did love the swimming pool and the also got to see santa and we got out and about on walks etc and compared to other holidays we found the supermarket prices very reasonable but it definatley wasnt what we expected
we are returning this year but only because we got some good will vouchers so we will give them a 2nd chance
i will keep you posted

" Just returned from a 4 day mid week... "
Submitted By: Miss A InglisWe booked this holiday via the centre parcs website and saved 25% afer we checked out there special offers and found a promotional code (always check the special offers as they wont give you the discount automatically)
We arrived on the Monday about 10.30, parked up the car and went for a walk to see where everything was - found the play parks and soft play areas. Barrier was lifted about 3.30, bit of a que but it all moved very smoothly, got to our lodge which was in a great position, about a 2 min walk from the village centre. We had a 2 bedroom comfort lodge - the most basic you can get but it was extremely spacious and very clean. It had 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets and an openplan living/dining/kitchen area. My only gripe with the accommodation was believe it or not the position off the light switches.....they were all very low....just the right height for my wee boy who loved switching the lights on and off!! There is also no child saftey locks on any of the kitchen cupboards or fridge so would definitely recommend taking some sort off safety locks if you have young children. We never had a problem with the front door as it had a safety chain but we had to keep this on all the time and the door could be opened very easily as there was no lock on the inside.
We only booked 2 activities as having never been before we didnt know what to expect, they were a bit expensive for what you got but my little one loved it. We did messy play, which was extremely messy, we expected it to be a little bit more organised but it was a case off just let them children make as much mess as possible with paint and food (beans, custard etc) If you book this for your child you should wear old clothes as you end up getting stuff on you, the children play in there nappy and vest so they are fine. The other one was Teddy Bears Picnic which was alot more organised, one of the girls from the creche read them stories and sang songs and they all got a picnic box (sandwiches, juice, crisps, chocolate) and them rupert bear came at the end.
We took some shopping with us as we had been told the supermarket was expensive, we ate in the sports cafe, lakeside inn and bella italia, the sports cafe and lakeside inn have soft play areas which were great. All the meals we had were really good...didn't find them too expensive, it probably just costs the same as if you were eating out every night back home. You can make this an expensive holiday or a not so expensive holiday depending on what you do and if you eat out every night.
I had a massage at the Aqua Sana Spa which was absolutely fabulous, it was so relaxing, i nearly fell asleep.
All in all we had a great time and will definitely be going back.

" It just goes to show how holiday... "
Submitted By: Mr M JordanWe booked a Friday to Monday stay at CP because we wanted something that would suit both our 13 year old son and 16 month old daughter - and not be too far to travel.
From the moment we paid for the weekend stay and pre-booked a handful of activities such as quad biking and survival we felt that there would be no way that the holiday would be able to live up to the expense but that we'd give it a go.
Well we were proved wrong, if expense can be justified and you get what you pay for then you don't mind forking out your hard-earned and saved cash.
Our lodge was superbly appointed, clean, spacious and fully equipped. Stair-gates and cots all fitted ready for our arrival which was very much appreciated.
We arrived early at 10.30 and explored. Check-in was done from your car and was instant. We were able to access our lodge to unpack at 3.30 - which again was smooth and well-organised.
Yes there were some expensive points:
The new bar area near to the 10 pin bowling charged me £7.35 for a pint and a half of Fosters - simple solution, don't drink there. The Lakeside Inn just around the corner charged me £4.40 for the same drinks, so we went there instead!
Customer service: we hired the multisports court and left our son and his friend there to play basketball while we took our daughter on the adjacent play area. They were asked to leave 15 mins early because equipment for the next activity needed to be set up. I politely complained to the booking office that we had paid for 1 hour and the boys only had 45 mins and she instantly gave me a full apology, explanation (staff were new and didn't realise the court had been booked as my son was too shy to argue) and also gave me a FULL refund with no quibble. That's what I call customer service.
The sub-tropical pool paradise is free and you could easily spend a whole day there because there are seating areas, snack bars and other non-pool activities such as table tennis and pool tables - in fact everything you'd have at a holiday complex abroad - including the warm climate!
Definitely going again!

Submitted By: Mrs K LinsleyLovely and safe, never had a problem. Very odd about the chap with no locks on the inside door, we have always been able to lock the door from the inside ??? perhaps that was a duff lodge.
The only time we did complain was when it was all starting to need refitting, I sent a letter upon return and had a response back within two weeks, got £50 on the next holiday, got upgraded, free chocolates and a bottle of wine...... you just need to put it in writing.
Great place.

Submitted By: Miss K Hennesseyvery impressed and would definately return tomorrow.
We arrived early on the friday morning, we checked in which was very easy without loads of people waiting around. We decided to have a walk round and see what was what, it looked bril.
When 3pm arrived we checked in to our Woodland style lodge it was very impressive, the bedrooms were nice, we had two bathrooms and two toilets the living room and kitchen dining room was very modern.
During our stay we didnt do many activities with having our son with us but the main thing that we all have said is that its very expensive, you dont expect to pay for the lodge then have all others things seperate if you get what i mean, we had an indian while we were at whinfell that was quiet nice - we didnt eat in though we took back to the lodge.
I would definately go back to this forest though it was a lovely break for us all, we managed to have a bbq while we was there also which was fun!

Submitted By: Mrs P JarvisWe arrived at the Parc at 3pm and there were big queues for registration but the system seemed to be running smoothly enough, probably took 20 to 30 minutes form turning off the A66 to registering.
The accomodation was clean, spacious for 4, well appointed and comfortable. The was some building working going on near to us but no work took place over the weekend.
The Village Centre: The little supermarket was reasonably well stocked (don't expect a Sainsbury's) but a bit on the expensive side. A large family staying for a week would be advised to pop out into Penrith to do grocery shopping.
The "Sub-Tropical Swimming Paradise" was highly enjoyable. Wave machines, currents, slides and plumes, plus a little pool for some serious swimming.
The other facilities we didn't use, but these included 10 pin bowling, cinema, ammusements etc. We did put our 21 month old daughter into the creche facility for a couple of hours (£12) and the feedback was she enjoyed herself in there.
There was 5 restaurants and we visited "Cafe Rouge". My steak and chips was diabolical but my husband said his meal was excellent. In fairness to them I didn't pay for the steak and chips after I complained about it.
Because our daughter was too young we didn't partake in any of the activities. However, it did look like good fun for the future. We did hire a bike with child trailer which was good fun. Also got to see a red squirrel.
We will certainly return in the future.

Submitted By: Ms K Martin-MayAccommodation was good, clean, tidy and spacious - no complaints there.
Prices are my main gripe - why is everything sooooooo expensive at CP?
In the end I walked the huge hike to the car park, got the car and went to Penrith Morrisons and did a shop there and saved £'s!
It also seems that CP don't want you to leave the site whilst you are with them. There is absolutely NO information about the surrounding area, it's as if the Lake District doesn't exist. We wanted places to visit during the stay and on the way home, why don't they acknowledge the local tourist area. This felt rather 'prison like'.
Not a bad holiday but I certainly won't be going again, unless I win the lottery.
