More Traveller Reviews of Kamal Hotel
Pleasently surprised.

Just got back from a week in Agadir, staying at the Hotel Kamal. Like most travellers I wasn't expecting too much from a three star hotel, but I told myself it was cheap. However I was extremely surprised when I got there. This is THE cleanest hotel I have stayed in and it put many 'up market' ones to shame. Like other reviewers I have to agree that the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. As we were on the third floor we kept the balcony door open at night which kept the temperature down a bit, and there was a welcome lack of mozzies (or any other unwelcome creatures for that matter). Breakfast did the job, and staff will happily replenish your coffee cup and coissant plate. Bar snacks again were good value and quality. Didn't try the resturant as the sea front is only a five minute walk and there are pleanty of resturants to choose from. We found the service and food at Camels particularly good, my wife thought the rose she was given after the meal was a nice touch. Some of the locals can seem pushy but they understand no means no (eventually), although there are one of two dodgy people who claim to be hotel workers who have a week off and will show you the sights, just stand firm and they'll soon go away. However if you go with the flow a little you will meet some of the most friendly people around, just don't be in a hurry 'cos before you know it you'll be drinking tea a swapping family stories!! If you're thinking of going to Agadir then go, and try the Hotel Kamal...if you can squeeze a day or two in Marracesh then so much the better. I'll certainly be going again.
Excellent Basic Clean Hotel -Recommended

Stayed 7 nights at Hotel Kamal. Chose hotel from TripAdvisor comments. We were not disappointed. Great Location in the heart of the 'Culture' area. We had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the town square. Having visited the 'tourist' area during the week, we were so pleased we had chosen the Kamal at least we felt we were in Morocco. The tourist area had no character at all, in fact you could have been anywhere - Spain, Canaries etc. it was just hotel after hotel! Amazing staff at Hotel Kamal, from the second day the reception staff knew our room number. Hotel very clean and extremely friendly. Basic but what more do you need on holiday for a week. Towels changed daily and sheets changed during the week. No air conditionng or fan, but due to the location of the room and the curtains being drawn, this was not a problem - the room never got too uncomfortable. The room was a good size. Loads of hangers and storage space. Only one negative comment - the bathroom ( all bathrooms seemed to be the same on speaking to other guests) The bathroom has a bath with a hand held shower attachment so you can bend over the bath to wash your hair, but not stand up to shower. Also there was no shower curtain. (now I know why the bottom of the bathroom door was rotten!) During the week we got the knack of holding the attachment with one hand whilst washing with the other, when standing in the bath, without a shower curtain the water obviously washed the floor at the same time. The only improvement required to make to this hotel to make it a perfect stay, would be to install a clip on the wall for the shower hose and to install a shower curtain. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings. The food was extremely good as was the service. As good as any restaurant outside, unfortunately just lacking in customers and atmosphere. A shame they do not promote the restaurant more to its guests. I would definately recommend this hotel. Great location and staff and of course cleanliness. Neither of us got any tummy bugs and we even ate lunch in small restaurants where only the locals frequented! We Pre-booked a hotel in Marrakech on the internet before we left the UK and when we got to Agadir we went and booked at ticket on the bus to Marrakech with Supra- tours one of the local bus companies. The hotel we pre-booked a 4 * cost £38 for a double room and the bus cost us £10 each return - so far cheaper than an organised trip with the tour company and much more freedom. My only regret was that we should have booked 2 nights in Marrakech. Overall what a great holiday and really nice hotel - Recommended.
A very relaxing holiday

My husband and I grabbed a very quick get away - all we wanted was a quiet week away - we certainly got that. Although I didn't fall in love with morocco I would never tell anyone not to visit - go with an open mind. The Hotel Kamal I could not fault - very basic but obsesively clean. The staff were great, each and every one of them - if you do stay there please try the hotel restaurant, I'm a veggie and they cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much aslong as your happy. The rooms are very clean but basic but at the end of the day we're on holiday - what more do you want. I could tell you alot more - any further info pls email on belindaloveswill@hotmail.com
Hotel Kamal

Spent a week in the Kamal early July. The Hotel was incredibly clean and all the staff were incredibly hard working and helpful - not sure if any of them have a day off!! The lad who looks after the pool is particularly helpful, as is the cleaner who never seems to be without his mop etc! The food around the pool was generally good, although my girlfriend found a few unwelcome "bugs" in her chicken tajine one day. We'd both had one a couple of days earlier and they were really nice. Our room was quite close to the reception and TV area - this caused us a problem on 3 nights and I had to get up at around 2am each time to ask people to keep the noise down. The room was basic, but clean. There 's no kettle, so take your own if you want to drink coffee etc in your room. Agadir itself is ok, although I wouldn't rush back. I spent quite a lrage amount of time in the bathroom after probably eating something which didn't agree with me. Be aware of the salads, ice and ice cream if you are sensitive. My problems prevented us from going on the First Choice organised trip to Marakesh, but this was only the start of the problem. The difficulties we had trying to get a refund (after being promised one by the bus guide AND resort office were ridiculous - common sense soon prevailed however and we got our money back. I was very disappointed with the First Choice appraoch to this matter, being told one thing and then another. It was quite chilly at night and a light jacket or top is worth taking. Scampi is ok for food, as are the places near the Old Taljbort area, near the market. Via Veneto and The Dome also did good food. If you are a woman, be prepared for lots of looks and attention -it was quite off putting for my girlfriend at first and also on the beach (although L'Oasis Beach Bar was good and do great grilled sardines). Excellent holiday

We stayed in the Kamal hotel for 1 week at the end of June. The hotel was spotless and the staff couldn't do enough to help you. We did change our room as it was on the small side so paid a bit extra and upgraded to a family room overlooking the pool which was lovely. The location of the hotel was perfect, close to the beach, restaurants and shops. Didn't really spend much time at the hotel as we hired a car for the week. Drove along the coast which is brilliant for surfers and risked Marrekesh for the day. Drive not for the faint hearted and tiring. Only thing is watch out for the police who just jump out with speed cameras, they hide everywhere!!!! The Kasbah and Souk is worth a visit but be strong at the Souk and have a price in mind and stick to it even walk away as they will on most occasions match your price. Learn to say NO to the beggars otherwise you will be giving to all of them. Agadir itself was an extremely safe place, not a huge amount of things to do in the evening apart from a walk on the promenade, sit in the square and people watch and wide choice of restaurants covering all price brackets. The beach was clean with plenty of life guards should you get into trouble. We preferred to sit in with the locals rather than at the tourist end as you find alot more out about the place talking to locals. Agadir definately surprised us and we will be going back.

stayed at hotel kamal from 17.6.05 to 1.7.05. really nice hotel, very very clean. towels changed daily, sheets several times a week, hotel staff very polite and friendly. large swimming pool area with plent of sunbeds. poolside snack bar serving cheap tasty food, burgers, chips, salads, toasted sandwiches, as well as morrocon food, which couldn't be faulted. set meal at night for 80dirhams approx 4pounds, didn't try it but spoke to many people who did and said it was great. unfortunately i caught a tummy bug whilst there but the restuarant staff were only too willing to sent me anything i wanted to the room. agadir has a nice beach but stay in the tourist area where you have to pay for the sun beds about 1pound a day. you can sunbathe just lying on your towel on the beach no sunbeds, but you get hastle from people wanting to sell you stuff. the only problem with hotel was that we were at the front of the hotel overlooking the road on the third floor, opposite was a large plaza with grassy areas and we saw on numerous occassions men as well as women urinating and deffacting. you could not see them from street level but we could see them quite clearly from our balcony. we told hotel staff who were very sympathetic but were unable to do anything about it, apart from this the hotel was excellent. safe to go out at night no problems at all, quite a few beggars, but if you just say no they go away. not a great deal to do at night plent of good restuarants where you could just get a drink if you wanted but they nearly all closed about 12 midnight. great place for relaxing beach holiday.
Very child friendly hotel and resort

We stayed in the Kamal Hotel for 2 weeks, the last week in May and first week of June, it was great. We travelled with our 15 month old son and couldn't have asked for anything more. We were going to chill out and relax and do as little as possible - and we did. The hotel itself was clean and the staff were so helpful and friendly, they couldn't do enough to help you. We were lucky and had a room facing the pool with a large balcony as they are family rooms, it was a huge room - great with a baby. They provided a cot for our son and it was ready when we arrived late at night. They cleaned our room everyday when we popped down for breakfast or down to the pool. There is no air conditioning but it got quite chilly in the evening so this was never a problem. Breakfast was basic, bread and croissants. But you could have more if you wanted to pay for it (eggs, omlettes, orange juice etc), our son had a yoghurt every morning for 50p! Also if you wanted cereal etc. you could buy a box from the supermarket and they would let you have that for breakfast no problem. The pool bar was ok, food portions were generous although more pricey than popping out but its all about convenience sometimes. The pool itself was a tad chilly but even our son braved it on occasions. The resort itself was as you'd expect from a ready made resort. Loads of hotels and restaurants, however there are lots of locals around which I really liked. The Moroccans love kids and were always very accomodating for our son - more so than when you go out in this country. If you want anymore info feel free to email me.
Great value, clean & comfotable

Very clean and very friendly. Stayed here first week of May 2005. Ideal for Spring, no air-con so maybe to hot in Summer. Hotel located in centre of Agadir, lots of restaurants and shops. Very cheap supermarket almost opposite. If you walk fast, the beach is 5 minutes away, or a casual 10 minutes. Hotel has a fixed price menu every night for 80DH. 'Uni Prix' opposite on the other side of traffic lights is highly recommended. Steer clear of Marche Municipal! Highly recommend a trip to Anti-Atlas mountains! As impressive as some of the stuff we saw on South Island, New Zealand. Found Agadir very safe and friendly place. Had no worries going out at night or going to the beach. Seemed like there were more Moroccans on holiday there than Europeans! If some wants to sell you something just say 'No thank you' and they generally leave you alone. Have travelled to Tunisia and Egypt, and in Agadir there was no hassle like you get in these other countries. It was more like going to Spain/Italy, than your usual North African/Middle East countries. Enjoy!
Great value hotel

If you're looking for a good value hotel that's clean with exceptionally friendly staff then consider the Kamal. Don't go if you're after luxury (e.g. room service/kettle in room/satellite tv), but if you want a comfortable basic room then you'll be satisfied. Staff are so friendly and helpful that it felt more homely than the huge hotel complexes. Cleanliness levels are fantastic, although a bit obsessive - the floors were being bleached constantly from 6am to 5pm when I was there! Rooms are immaculately cleaned too. Lots of storage space in the rooms, most with balconies. Worth pointing out that there's no air conditioning. This was fine for our May break, but I would be concerned about this for June/July/August stays as it'd be stifling. Good poolside snack bar with sandwiches, spaghetti, omlettes and chips alongside Moroccan fare. Nice small hotel bar indoors too and BBC World channel on tv in lounge area. As the hotel's based 10 minutes inland from the beach, it may be inconvenient for families to trek to the beach, but the plus points are it's near to shops/restaurants/post office.
Clean and comfortable

Very clean, comfortable hotel right in the town centre with very helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast was the same bread and jam every day (you have to keep asking for more butter!) but overall we found this hotel to represent excellent value. You pay for the TV which can only pick up one English -speaking channel (BBC World). Plenty of good restaurants nearby but cooler down at the beach and the traffic fumes can be a bit nasty if the weather is very hot - and we had a mini-heatwave in March when the temperature went over 100 degrees for a couple of days!

We have just come back from a wonderful two weeks stay in the Hotel Kamal with our two teenage sons. We arrived on the day of the Moroccan Independence Day and also the start of their summer break too so the whole town buzzing with lots of people and music. The staff were... more
