What a mistake to make ...!

Le Tivoli looked like it was once a great hotel - shame they did not keep up the maintenance or the standards of that bygone era. Advertised as a FOUR star Le Tivoli would now struggle to make TWO!! Just about everything needed attention – even the chandeliers in the lobby. The rooms with en-suite were reasonable in size but tatty with a faint smell of damp. The bathrooms looked grimy though they were cleaned daily – they just needed to replace the horrible shower curtain with a screen and generally pay some overdue attention to the rest of it. Our first room was on the top floor but the only two lifts were both broken throughout our stay. We then discovered that the air conditioning for the entire block was in worse shape than the lifts so we moved to another block which had working lifts but the room was in a similar condition. No fridge, kettle or hairdryer and the only items provided were 3 small bars of soap and half a loo roll. Oh, there was cable TV, mostly French or Moroccan but there was Eurosport and 1 dedicated English channel, BBC World News.... Wow! However, the Chambermaids were very helpful ..
Even though we travelled with another couple there were only half a dozen Brits staying during our week. Marmara Cosy Club had taken over the entire hotel on behalf of the majority of guests and eight resident Marmara reps, in their early twenties, made sure their French guests were entertained all day and evening. We had no idea what was going on and were specifically excluded as all notices where obviously in French and when we did stumble across an activity we couldn’t understand it anyway... One or two of the reps were polite and did talk to us, in passing, but the majority just walked away when they discovered we were British.
The pool was OK though a little small with a separate paddling pool for children, however, it was not always accessible as the Cosy Club reps took over parts of the pool 3 or 4 times a day for various activities. They also played music for most of the day in-between the activities and although some was pleasant most was the type of music only teens and twenties appreciate – it was nice when it stopped.
With only two exceptions the hotel staff always spoke to us in French and were not as helpful as they seemed to be for the Cosy Club members. Apart from the paddling pool there were no facilities for children at all, not even in the only restaurant. Actually there were two restaurants but only one in use at a time, one for breakfast and the other for the rest of the meals. The food was something else – to be fair we did have two reasonable evening meals but breakfast seemed to be leftovers, although we did have fresh bread and croissants one morning... There were absolutely no concessions for us or any other nationality, no fresh eggs or anything we would recognise as breakfast. Needless to say all meals were geared to adult French guests with nothing for children. We tried the food for three days then eat out and rejoiced in the fact that we were only half board. Fortunately there was a very nice restaurant directly across the road from the hotel.
Agadir is certainly worth a trip – even though it is clearly a tourist destination, it is still developing. The locals are very friendly and polite – excluding the shop keepers who can be a very persistent to the point of putting you off. “I want your money” does not encourage you to enter their shop... and if you do – haggle and be very firm. My wife’s leather bag came down from 750 to 250 dirhams, however, most annoyingly; when I was paying he wanted even more than agreed. He didn’t get it and we did get the bag at the agreed price.
Recommendation: Choose another hotel....

  • Advice: A very long sandy beach is only 5-10 mins away and there is a nice restaurant across the road from the hotel.

I have just got back from my holiday in morrocco, Stayed at the le tivoli for 4 nights and i am just disgusted to say that for a 4 star hotel it has very unpleasent, unfriendly and no willingness to help attitude. I had a family room with bed and breakfast the room was beautiful which was big and spacious but that and the swimming pool were the only two good things about the hotel. The breakfast was awful was not worth waking up for. The staff when you asked them for something as simple as hot milk all you got was a uncaring reaction. I wont go back there again thats for sure.

Absolutely loved the hotel, I have to...

Absolutely loved the hotel, I have to say we thought all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The ladies in the shop were a bit rude, eyeballing you up and down but I think that was just a culture thing. All the staff spoke English well, bar staff were attentive, polite and spoke good English. The entertainment staff tried really hard to get everyone involved, it was good for kids. Pool was lovely and rooms were cleaned and towels and beds changed every day. We stayed half board and ate at the hotel and were fine, the food was fine, a bit repetitive but you know what you are getting at least. I would definitely go back to this hotel. It was in a good location and for what we paid was fantastic. Yes there were other hotels like Sofitel there but they were expensive and the club there is good if you like rave music, otherwise give it a miss and go to PapaMayo (think that's what its called). We had been warned about Agadir but you know what, we had the best time. The guys in Agadir were fine, if they started hassling us we told them to leave us alone and they did - it was perfectly fine for two girls travelling alone together - yes there were people trying to sell things and asking for money but think you get that everywhere - really would recommend staying there. Agree on the cabs but I have to say they did put the meter on when we got in otherwise we would just get out and wait for another cab. If you are looking for the night life, we spent most of our time in the English bar and then in the various nightclubs around the area and still had a great time and it was more than adequate for what we wanted. We were really sad to leave!

just got back from le tivoli.
ok hotel, definately 3 stars! waiters rude and unhelpful.
beautiful country but full of CON men! all they want is your money. Taxi drivers on the whole ok to start off with, then they start haggling with the fare, despite agreeing on a price before getting in! they refuse to put the meter on - usually costs a few dirhams to go anywhere, but they charge you sky high prices. they will end up taking you where they want to go - ofcourse they get a commission from the places they take you to i.e shop/camel ride etc. we used 3 taxis asking them to take us to the Souk - they told us its not nice but you can go to this shop instead!
souk's ok, but more pricey than in marrakech. marrakech is wonderful but hot hot - 45degrees when we were there! good bargains, if you can haggle in the souk.
snake charmers etc will charge you money if you take a picture - usually 20-30 dirhams (2-3 punds) if you dont pay they become aggressive as we learned from another couple! so yes, take pics but make sure you pay. although its not written anywhere how much!
went to marrakech for an over night excursion. the hotel charges you £100 per person and local guides approx £40. we went for the cheaper option and regret it very much. they put us in a 2 star hotel with NO A/C and a ford transit van! our driver was great fun though!
overall, really nice place agadir, wonderful beach and food. pricey. locals will con you so take plenty of money. try the camel ride (again haggle and haggle more)
we will not be going back, as the people make it unworthy. country and culture really amazing.

We stayed at this hotel at the start...

We stayed at this hotel at the start of June, the hotel was fine, more like a 3* rather than a four star, the hotel was clean and tidy. The hotel bar staff were very helpful, but the reception staff were very rude and very ill mannered. The breakfasts were awful, with my partner and I having to go out for breakfasts most days and the suppers were OK, but rather bland and boring.
The hotel had little form of entertainment, and the hotel had a very strict policy of not bringing any drinks or food into the hotel that wasn't bought outside. The water in the hotel was extremely expensive, I would advise people to pop across to the supermarket and buy your bottles of water there, as you get a 2 litre bottle for 1/3rd of the price of a 500ml bottle from the hotel.
Agdair, was not great, for a young couple there was not much too do, haggle everything, and be very aware in the Souks of people around you.
Overall it was fun, but we definitely would not go back to Agdair and not to this hotel........theres a lovely hotel in Agdair called the Sofitel though- We spent most of your time there!

We have just come back from a holiday...

We have just come back from a holiday at the tivoli and enjoyed every minute of our stay which was for four weeks. The waiters couldnt have been more pleasing and it was very emotional when we had to say goodbye. The food was excellent and plenty of variety, the bread was always very fresh and plenty of everything. The rooms were very clean with clean towels every day and clean sheets every two days the maids worked very hard. The people on the reception could have been a bit more pleasant. there was a man playing the organ and singing in the receptoin every evening and he was excellent and made our evenings very enjoyable. We couldnt fault the hotel or agadir we hope the go back someday and get some of their beautiful sunshine and very friendly people.

Again this year we chose the 5 week...

Feb 2008, Mr P Thompson

Again this year we chose the 5 week package holiday in Agadir but this time half board at the Tivoli .
We enjoyed staying in this hotel . The food was varied and although not always piping hot (they do have a microwave for clients use) it was varied enough for us to find something that we fancied .
The pool area is pleasant and the pool heated !
The staff were friendly and usually accomodated your requests , including moving to a room with a view of the Kasbar .
If you like beaches however forget Agadir for the moment as in January 2006 they started digging up the beach to build a new promenade.
This has and still does mean piles of sand, concrete sea walls and part finished hardcore paths.
The instigators of this construction have given little or no thought to the people like us who have been going to Agadir partly because of the very extensive and unspoilt beach.

Having recently stayed at a brand new...

Dec 2007, Mr AK Tear

Having recently stayed at a brand new 4/5* hotel in Egypt I was reminded of my stay at Le Tivoli.
The staff were polite and numerous. They were helpful and responsive and appreciated my attempts at Arabic. The staff made a fuss of the children which was nice.
The Moroccans are very friendly people as a whole.
The accommodation was clean, worn in some areas but not in any way that detracted from the overall 4 star impressions.
The room, a family room was enormous with fridge and TV, it was clean and comfortable.
We don't bother with tour reps generally so the lack of input didn't detract from the holiday.
A nativity was organised for Christmas day which involved live animals and live Mary and Joseph.
Christmas Dinner which was at no extra charge was lovely.
The entertainment was stunning.
Being a bit lazy we rarely managed to be up in time for breakfast, which was ok if a bit limited.
The hotel is surrounded by a wide selection of restaurants and shops. It is within walking distance from the beach.
I came across this web site whilst looking to re-book at Le Tivoli so yes I would stay there again.

Le Tivoli was rated at a 4* but would...

Aug 2007, yoohoo

Le Tivoli was rated at a 4* but would say it’s more like a 3* although this does generally seem to be the case in north African hotels.
The hotel was nice enough, the bedroom was clean, but the bathroom was a little unpleasant with rusty marks around the taps in the bath and a lack of toilet roll.
Breakfast and dinner were buffet style, breakfast being lovely but dinner slightly bland and repetitive. This wasn't a problem though as there are many very cheap and delicious places to eat nearby.
Staff were extremely helpful and plenty of them about. Although this hotel was not as good a standard as I had expected it was still one of the best holidays I have ever had.
The surrounding area was brilliant and the trips that we went on were amazing.
Room was suitable enough for simply sleeping in which is all we really needed it for.

Got a good deal on the hotel, and...

Feb 2007, Miss Ej Vest

Got a good deal on the hotel, and enjoyed our holiday.
Agadir itself is not traditionally Moroccan and is set up as a tourist resort (which after going to Marrakech can be a welcome break).
Hotel was nice and very clean.
There was a problem with the pool whilst we were there, and they had to drain it out, but pool is large enough and there are enough sun beds.
The entertainment is fairly basic, but done with good humour.
The gym left a little to be desired, as none of the equipment really worked but liked the fact that there were tennis courts.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the beach, and there are a few shops and local restaurants nearby.
Breakfast were the usual buffet style - quite a lot of choice.
Rooms were very large and spacious - starting to show their age a little, but again very clean, and serviceable.

We stayed at the Le Tivoli for 7...
9 / 10
Feb 2007, Miss C Wyatt

We stayed at the Le Tivoli for 7 nights on a half board basis in February 2007.
We have read other reviews and have to agree with some that this is a 3 star hotel rather than a 4 star, having said that it is a very good hotel.
The rooms are very spacious and have a balcony, all have quite nice views. We stayed in block 4 which is a little tired now but we understand other blocks have been updated.
There was nothing terribly wrong with the room we had at all, it was very clean and well set out, and it just needed a little TLC.
The room was comfortable and had a TV, with only 3 British channels all news channels. A safe is included which you have to pay for to use. There is no fridge, you can ask for one but there are only 8 in the whole hotel so you may not be lucky.
The food was excellent, it was well displayed and a lot of time had been taken over the presentation. There was a wide choice and even vegetarians would not go hungry. There was soup and then main courses and sweets. Drinks have to be paid for at lunch and dinner. If anything runs out it is replaced very quickly. We were impressed.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. I have read about the hotel being geared toward the French, well it is a French speaking country so that would obviously be the case, but most people spoke English and we did not have any problems wherever we went.
You can always change money up easily in the hotel. You get 16 dirham to the pound wherever you go that is the set exchange rate by the government. You need to get rid of most of your money before returning home as you can not even use in the airport shops, you can use in the toilets if need to tip though!
The pool area is very nice with plenty of sun beds. The pool itself is lovely not freezing at all. There is a food and drink place by the pool. It was lovely to swim in. There is also a small child’s pool.
The beach is relatively close by it is glorious goes on for miles and is a very wide beach. The sand is soft and clean. They a building more of the promenade but it really does not effect the enjoyment of the beach area. Lots of nice restaurants all along the front. All very reasonably priced.
Also lots of shops about, all more or less sell the same things but prices vary and you can barter. The Souk (market) is well worth a visit; it is huge and has many many stalls to look at.
There is a small animal park which is quite pleasant to visit. If they tell you they do not close the gates between 1230-1430 be careful as you can get locked in as they do in fact close the gates!!
The port is about 20 mins away and has a fish market and is a very interesting place to visit if you like to see things of that nature. If you don't want to walk the little red taxis are cheap. They only stay in Agadir. If you use after 8pm make sure they put the meter on as they charge time and a half after that time.
If you need to go outside Agadir in a taxis use the white Mercedes. 30 dirham minimum.
The hotel is in a very good spot to get around. We had a really good week there. The people of morocco are very friendly people, but be aware that when someone appears to be helpful and show you the way or take you somewhere, they do expect a tip, even if they say they don't want any money.
Tipping is very much a way of life out there as they earn very little.
We would recommend the hotel Le Tivoli and Morocco in general.
