Quality
from Jugface
Although rated as a 4 star, this hotel is top quality. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and maintained to a high standard i.e. they are very clean and tidy. The All Inclusive package is very good value for money - breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets have great variety. The food overall is of an excellent standard and you are bound to find something to suit your taste. The hotel bars serve good local wines and beers but if you want popular brands of spirit etc. then there is an extra charge. There are local brands but we did not try them. Above all the Staff in the bars restaurants and room service could not be more pleasant or helpful. They were always friendly and so happy to be able to serve you. The hotel is set away from the main tourist area ( an advantage) but it is very pleasant to stroll along the beach or take a 15 minute walk along the road to reach the restaurants and bars, but you don't need to because everything is on hand in the hotel. In addition the Orange Taxis are always lurking outside the hotel to take you where you want. (Some of them will try it on though). There is also a Road Train which ferries tourists around the town. All in all a great place to relax - January however is not as busy as other times of the year - the Hotel was only half full. In the peak periods it may be more hectic and service may well be slower. Before booking excursions consider the travel times involved. Some people found the journeys far too long - it's a big country and a day trip to Marrakech means about 4 hours on the road both ways and a 4x4 adventure to the desert is just as long with 7 or 8 people jammed in a sweaty off road vehicle and no proper toilet facilities on the journey. Best to sit on the beach and get your moneysworth in the nearby hotel beach bar.
Absolutely Fantastic

Stayed here from 18 Dec till 01 Jan and enjoyed every minute. Luxurious hotel with keen, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. Large, clean rooms - though we did have to move to a pool view room - we would've spent the holiday overlooking a service road otherwise. Best to clarify which room you are in when you make your booking and insist on a POOL view. Although a muslim country, they really pushed the boat out for our Christmas. Santa arrived on a camel with pressies for all the kids which was a nice touch. Fab gala dinner on xmas eve and again new years eve. Energetic and enthusiastic animations team try very hard - ents every night in the show bar after the kids disco. Food was great - gave us all the chance to try different things - something for absolutely everyone - wotever your taste. Immaculate grounds and pool area - swing park for the kids. Easy 10 min walk into town - nice to get out of the complex and see a bit of the local area. Visit to the Souk (market) is a must to haggle for your holiday gifts and of course you must ride on a camel while in Morocco! This really was a fab holiday. A great way to spend xmas and new year. We didnt want to come home - but now I am - I am trying to shift the weight gained by the fab food and excess alcohol enjoyed on the all inclusive package!! We would defo go back to this hotel.
Excellent Hotel

we've just returned from a week in agadir, 30/12-06/01 and am glad to say that the positive reviews in previous posts were all spot-on, great big rooms, wonderfully friendly people, loads for kids to do, good buffet style food which i was not looking forward to but the kids, 7, 5 and 4 loved being able to try lots of different things. the locals are indeed incredibly friendly to children, bit odd at first but genuine. plenty for kids to do with or without the kids club, the nighttime entertainment was a big hit, kids disco at 830 followed by a range of variety type shows 930 to 11. i wont repeat all of the logistical details covered in oher posts but ....a couple of tips, the taxi to and from the airport shouldn't be more that 150-175 dhms, agree the price and you'll avoid small scale rips offs, you're most vulnerable when you arrive! the moroccans don't like you taking currency out of the country so try and plan to have as little as possible when you leave, the couple in front of us put notes and coins thru the security scanner and almost had it confiscated- fair enough, their country, their currency and their rules) I'd recommend asking for a room that is pool or sea facing, we had two on the ground floor which didnt get any sun in the afternoon so the excellent clothes drying facility was wasted, ask for an even numbered room. we had a gala dinner on new year's eve, usual dinner with a band , raffles and other stuff which sadly we were too tired to stay up for but they did make a big effort we did the camel ride- all muscles still sore 4 days later, a one off but small kids get a bit scared being 3 metres up on a big beast, worth it for adults tho i wouldn't want to cross a full desert on one.!! the feedback on the other trips was positive from other guests we'll probably go back next year, all in all a great place for a winter break in the sun
We give Iberostar a 5 Star rating

The Iberostar Founty Beach is certainly working towards becoming a 5 star hotel. It is rated 4 Star plus by First Choice at present. We arrived at Agadir airport from Birmingham on 23rd December 2005 and was there over Christmas untill New Years Eve. The airport is small and security is high. Very quick change of luggage from plane to airport, very impressed! The first choice reps were very friendly and efficient on our arrival and the coach left almost immediatly. You even get help to the coach with luggage by airport staff! Our proffessional guide talked us through procedures etc... and the transport time is only 25 mins to the hotel. Yet again, hotel porters took our luggage in, and also took it to our rooms. The reception area is really impressive, very different to any other hotel. We were shown to our room and couldn't believe the stardard - extreamly clean, modern and large. You would never know that anyone else had stayed in the room. This was the case throughout the week. the chambermaid was excellent. We were on the ground floor over looking the pool. There are two outdoor pools, one of which is slighly heated. These were so clean!!! They even have a member of staff on poolside at all times. The hotel has its own private beach area leading down onto the public beach. Lovely views and security are there to ensure no one enters your area! The food in the hotel is to the highest quality, although there is a wide choice, you can end up eating the same thing if you are a fussy eater or dont like fish. The staff are excepional! Anything you want, anything that needs to be done and they are so friendly and willing to please. First choice also recommend going on different tours/trips. There is a wide variety and we chose to go on Agadir City Tour which is every sunday for around four hours. It is very good insight into the town and it is nice to go in a group. We had a lovely guide who stayed with us the whole time and was very proffesional. However, we were unprepared for going up to the old city, up a big mountain with a narrow road. It was a bit scary and if you survive the ride, you will never forget it! We also visited other places, a carpet shop, mini zoo and the port. We also went to the market. WOW! Its scary, different and if you are used to England prepare! You all must stay in the group or you may get lost. You walk through the local market and then stop at a more 'tourist' shop spot. We prepared for the stallholders to come over and want you in their shop, buy their products. A polite and firm No, thank - you - repeated a number of times usually did the trick. A good idea is to wear sunglasses. Its hard if they start to pull you but you are in control and it is very unlikely they will hurt you are anything simalar. It is well worth going, you will be looked after and you will never forget the experience. The hotel was superb, we really recommend it. Dont forget that Morocco is still developing but Agadir is for torists and there are new hotels being built all of the time. The weather is GREAT! First choice are a really good company. If you fancy something with quality and different then Morocco is the place for you. Hope you enjoy your time there like we really did! Lynn, Bob and Greg (Lincoln)
lovely hotel but has hygene problems
from A TripAdvisor Member
my wife and i stayed at this hotel from the 11th to the 18th november 2005 and had a lovely holiday apart from the sickness and diarrhoea and 3 star food the hotel building itself and staff were excellent and the rooms were clean and spacious the beach area was spacious with plenty of sunbeds.i would only rate the food 3 star.the hotel does have hygene problems because anyone i spoke to had had sickness or diarrhoea and i could not reccomend this hotel on this basis I did suspect the swimming pool as the cause of illness as this was the only thing my wife did not do that i had done (or eaten)
Great all inclusive, a wow of a hotel!

Just returned from a great week at the Founty Beach. the 3 1/2 hour flight was smooth and easy and the under 45 minute transfer was just as expected. The pictures on the iberostar website do not do the place justice as you are greated by an impressive looking hotel and efficient reception which includes an area where you can transfer your money into to local currency dirhams. All rates are fixed across morocco so it doesnt matter where you change your money the rate is the same. keep your receipts as if you need to change a lot back at the end of your holiday you may need them. This is usually done at the airport. The porters take your bags to the room, and a tip is not expected but greatly received if given, in any currency including coins. Tipping is generally expected in Morocco but at the hotel you can get on fine if you don't. The hotel itself is located about 10- 20 minutes walk away from the centre of Agadir. All the 5 stars are away from the town and for any shops, restaurants bars etc you do need to be closer in, but there are taxis camped outside and the noddy train which goes past every 1/2 hour to get you around for generally around £1 if your feet don't want to do the walk. The rooms around the hotel are on 3 levels. Our room was on the lower floor, with a patio area with a table and chairs and a cloth airer, those higher up have a balcony. Our room was a twin but a quick call to reception and they can convert the beds to a large King for you. The room was large with a table and chair area inside, in addition to a sofa/3rd bed. No kettle, but TV with 2 english channels BBC world and a Movie channel (who wants to be watching tv anyway) a hair dryer in the bathroom, a mini bar which was empty so you could store your own stuff or the bottled water which was provided in the room, or you could request it to be filled with soft drinks etc for you. There were also laundry service available. (ps plenty of hangers in the wardrobe) The lights in the room operate using the room key. We used a credit card or store card if one of us went out without the other to keep the lights/tv on. Large bathroom, with shower and bath, toilet and bidet, only winge toilet paper could have been a bit softer Food: The all inclusive buffet restaurant was great with a wide variety of food for meat and veggie lovers, I'm a fussy eater and still always had a choice of foods to eat. The fish was my highlight amazing. Didn't like the a la carte as much but great food non the less. Do go out and try the local eateries too. There is a snack bar and grill in between the pools and the beach which offers grilled meats and fish, veg, pizza chips and icecream during the day between 12 and 6pm. The hotel has its own spa therapy area. Which has a large array of treatments from leg waxing and massages to seaweed wraps and saunas. Prices are from around £4, with packages from 2 hours to 3 days ranging in prices from £40 to £200. Do treat yourself they are great. All that pre holiday waxing buffing and hairstyling you do can easily be done at the hotel with better results. We did two trips, the 1 day to Marrakesh £40 and a Berber evening £20 both were great but probably only the Berber evening would rank for me as a must do. 1 day just doesn't do Marrakech justice. You are on the coach at 6am, 5 hours there 5 hours back, a few hours sight seeing and just 1 1/2 free time in an 18 1/2 hour day, it wipes you out. The berber evening by contrast was an amazing event with great food, company and belly dancing! With prizes to win silver jewellry for the ladies. Shopping: The rules, haggle haggle and more haggle. When you want to leave a shop just walk a away and don't look back and all will be fine. It sounds rude but the rules of the trader is never stop trying to get a sale. Saying you are not interested is seldom good enough as an answer for them to stop trying to sell you something different. There are great bargains to be had in leather goods, silver jewellry, beauty treatments and souvenirs. Try a fixed price shop first to give you a guide price on things and then go haggle. I knocked 65% off the opening price of a leather jacket and could probably have gone lower! Single woman should feel safe travelling around the area, I often left the husband at the beach and went off on my own, walking and shopping and felt safe doing so. The traders/taxi guys etc were very respectful and polite. If you don't do the city tour, do try the noddy train to take you around its only about £1.20 and takes 1/2 to go around agadir, and you can get on and off at any time. It was great to get my bearings for when I went out on my own steam and allows you to see more shops or get to MacArabia if the golden arches as opposed to cous cous is what you prefer. Some Taxi drivers will try to take you to where they want to take you as opposed to where you want to go if you say you want to go to a souk but they mean you no harm and are just sharing the wealth to equally if not cheaper priced shops that cannot avoid the main resort charges and will wait for you at no additional charge to yourself. Be firm if you want to go to a specific place. Overall: The founty beach was a great place to stay for a relaxing fun filled holiday, the entertainment team were great, the weather warm, the food safe and excellent, the beach clean, plenty of sun beds and towels and great service. Without detracting from the amazing hotel that this is for families, singletons and couples, for a 2nd trip to Agadir I would go closer in and go half board as the all inclusive does tempt you to stay in the hotel and then you would only see a glimpse of the great bars and cafes that Agadir has to offer.
a taste of morocco

hi have just returned this morning from a weeks stay at the iberostar founty beach hotel(13/11/05-20/11/05) have had a brilliant holiday, very enjoyable and would visit again. the hotel its self is very nice with a huge lobby and reception area with the orion lobby bar coming off to the left side of the lobby, this is were you can sit and drink all day and in the evening there is a man who plays the keyboard and sings(a few people even get up to dance)and he sings a range of songs so entertaining for all ages.(plus hes very good wich helps) to the right of the lobby is the main entrance to the resturant it is a very large dining hall but is very well set out and kept very clean, you can change your money in the reception and there is no need to take any thing except english £ as only dirhams excepted wich you can only change up in morocco, there is a large glass wall with doors opposite main entrance wich leads to balcony with seating area over looking hotel grounds and beach, the rooms run along the left and right side of the hotel giving the horseshoe effect, on the lower floor is the show room + bar, the a la carte resturant and the childrens club also very nice shower and changeing rooms, all this leads out to the pools and sunbed area, past this section is the pool bar and snack area wich gives a good view of beach and hills, then behind glass partitioning is the privatebeach area leading to the beach. the hotel rooms are very comfy and kept extremly clean there is hairdryers in the bathrooms plus towels wich are changed daily, also shampoo and shower gel are provided, the beds are made up every day and rooms cleaned daily although if you want a layin as such leave do not disturb sign out as maids start at 8am.(but remove when ready to go or rm wont be cleaned) could only get bbc news for first few days on tv but after a couple of days us movie channel and iberostar channel(live video of showroom in evening then reapets of shows +music in day)appered wich was better as nothing worse than a foreign language as background noise, there is a safe in room wich you pay for and beach towel are provided, you pay a deposit wich is giving back on last day and these you can change each evening for clean ones, its 100 dirhams each (£6) the sea is extremly cold and there is signs warning not to swim in sea as dangerous, its ok to paddle but very strong current and big waves so not advisable, there is a huge pool (not heated) a smaller pool (heated) and a childrens pool (although the large pool was closed with no notice for 2 wks for maintance while we were there -not impressed) there is a vast range of food in main resturant pizza and chips or spagetti bolo for people playing it safe to traditional moroccon food (tardine), soups breads, fruit, cakes, ice cream, meats, cheese and biscuits, salad bar, fish, omelettes, fresh made doughnuts, etc etc never had the same meal twice, theres fried eggs moroccon bacon frankfurtes and a lot of above at breakfast, the snack bar has a smaller selection for lunch and you can wear swim stuff here (this is were your supposed to get coffee and cakes but never saw any and closed earlier than advertised) the evening shows are very good and entertaining and there is things to do at odd times in the day if you want to join in, the animation team are very good at there job and very friendly, we travelled with my travel/airtours and the service from start to finish has been very good and helpful. flight is only 3 1/2 hrs so not to far to go, the airport has a cafe and 2 duty free shops and dont panic if your going to gatwick at 9pm but queing in manchester different airline different time flight Q with some going manchester 8pm some gatwick 9pm some manchester 9pm!!!!!!!!!!! really dont know how but u and cases manage to get home ok(unique airport) the a lacarte resturant was ok but found dining hall better, its only open 2 times awk monday moroccon night fri italian night(we went fri, maybe mon better?) you need to book this at reception when arrive. the trips are very cheap we paid £85 4 4 we did a half day agadir trip(good) half day taradount trip(ok) ber ber night(very good) and day in marreksh(brilliant not to be missed) if you dont fancy any trips there are shops bars&resturants and a souk in agadir wich you can walk to or get a taxi around a £1 to, taxis do tend to take you different place than asked and one couple even ended up having dinner and meeting taxi drivers family!!!!!!!!! but all taxis have a number and reps will deal with any problems. if you get 2 single beds in rm,s just ring reception and they will come and make it in to a king size in ten minutes. need travel kettle mugs powder milk etc for rm as no t making facalites in rm and nothing in mini bar, very cheap in agadir and cheap leather bags, try to knock them down to 1/3 of what they ask or if you dont like haggling there are some fixed price shops around. all in all a very enjoyable holiday would def go back, the only thing didnt like is that on the day before last you are left a note in rm stateing that all all inc will end at 12 pm on day of departure, wich cause a lot of unneccesaray stress if leaveing 6.30pm as this is not the case once bags are handed in to luggage rm and keys giving in you keep your band, still receive all inc food and drink and use of towels until u leave hotel. if you get deposit for pool towel back a couple of hours before u leave reception will give you a towel to shower before u leave. hope this helps, claire x
Top class hotel, fabulous place!

I stayed here for a week at the end of September. The hotel was fabulous and the location right on the beach was superb. The hotel has a private beach which was great, although if you want to dip your toes in the sea you need to run the gauntlet of lots of people trying to sell you things you didn't realise you needed! The rooms are a good size and very clean. Bed linen is changed a couple of times a week and towels are changed every day. We stayed on an all inclusive package. The food options were excellent apart from one day when there were very few guests. The choices that day were however adequate. The fruit selection at breakfast was the only let down as this was mainly tinned fruits in syrup. We found the drink measures to vary depending on whether we ordered direct from the bar (too strong measures) or from a waiter (weak) and also according to time of day. The hotel entertainment staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly during the day. The evening shows are excellent and the staff work incredibly hard to put on different shows each night. Even the bingo was fun! We didn't find the hotel shop until the last day as its out the front of the hotel and you don't really have a need to go that way - its much more picturesque walking into town along the beach. I'd be really happy to go back to this hotel - very unusual for me as I'm usually someone to explore new places!
Brillant Hotel could not fault it at all!!!!

I stayed at this hotel from Aug 26th till 9th Sept 2005. I absoloutely loved the place. It was very big and spacious hotel with lots to do, pool activities which if you have kids will enjoy these but if you want to sunbathe just tell them no (I won a darts cmpetition at the pool which I am proud off I got a certificate for this). The staff are great very friendly. As for the food I did not book myself into the resturant for a meal so cannot comment on that one but as for the food in the hotel overall it did have the same things most nights as people have said but so much to choose from that this is something you cant complain about there is always going to be something you will like, there is pizza, pasta, and a range of meats and moroccon choices and soups and as for the deserts there are plenty of lovely ones. They ahev a childrens part which the adults can eat from also. The pool is absoloutley massive and there are loads of sun loungers never had a problem at all getting one. There is also the private beach which is huge and nice to walk up and down never sunbathed on the beach though found it better by the pool loads of locals on the beach. Had no problems with the service of food or drink they sometimes serve yor drinks past the 12.00 midnight mark if you are lucky. I found there were no dangers in Agadir and you can wear what you wnat so have no worries and also the taxis into the town are very cheap. We also did a one day trip to Marakesh but found this tiring as it takes 4 hours to get there and then you walk around with a guide who talks about the history everywhere if you like that sought of thing I dont so I got a bit bored and it is absoloutely roasting there to. The market is good and it looks lovely at night there to. I will say that they have a lot of overcast sky but when its sunny its sunny, overall an absoloutely brillant holiday and I would go back to Agadit again in the same hotel. Leanne, Liverpool

One week holiday at the end of September. Location The Iberostar is located to the south of central Agadir. We walked once at a very slow stroll and it took 45 minutes to get to the centre. To return we took a petit taxi at a cost of 13 dirhams (less than £1). Hotel The room we were allocated was to a good 4 star standard with hairdryers, air conditioning & a fridge in the room (mini bar costs extra). All rooms also have a balcony. The hotel is designed so that all hotels (on three floors) either over-look the pool area or hotels either side of the Iberostar and they strech down to the beach area on each side of the main reception and restaurant. The hotel all has it's own souvenir shop and also a shop for other essentials that you may have forgotten. The souvenier shop though is alot more expensive that the souk that only cost 10 dirhams in a petit taxi. Beach The hotel has an area of private beach attached to the hotel and near to the bar. The area of beach next to the shore is public. This is where the local sellers parade, but they are not allowed onto the private beach and the security kept watch. The area seemed to have a minor wasp problem, probably related to the time of year. Pool At the time of our visit there were no problems getting a sun lounger at the pool at any time of day, and the lougers were fairly comfortable and in keeping with the rest of the resort. The pool was well kept and had a small pool for the toddlers quite a long way from the third deep pool for adults. Also food it now allowed at the poll or beach so it was very clean. Food Breakfast was mainly pastries, ommlettes, cold meat & fruit and some left-overs from the evening meal such as sausages & potatoes. Lunch at the pool bar was salad, pizza, chips, pasta & meat or fish. At the resturant it was similar but with the addition of soup and a hot dish. Evening meals were as per lunch with a great deal of fish, couscous, chick peas & lentils. My partner is a more fussy eater than myself and lived on pizza, pasta & chips. The meals did seem to get a bit repetative after a while but for one week they were good, but for two I also may have got a bit bored with the variety. We had a bottle of wine between us every night and had no problems getting this from the waiters, but if we had wanted glasses of something else we probably would have only been served twice through a 1.5 hour meal. The restaurant remined the both of us of a dinner hall as it was so large and impersonal, but the hotel is quite large. Other Guests We found at the time we visited the hotel that there were a large amount of Germans and the resort. The result of this for us was that we didn't speak to too many other guests. I am not sure how many beds the hotel accomodates but there were not a great many people that we remember seeing often, so quite a large number I would imagine. Activities My partner is usually one for the activities but he did not get involved at this resort as he decided as the majority of the others were Germans it would be too difficult for him to communicate. They also seemed to cut down on the number of activities later in the season and only had darts, french bowles and volleyball. All-Inclusive After having been to all-inclusive resorts in the Carribean we both felt that as the drinks were measured it was more stingy than we were used too (this may be our lack of all-inclusive experience outside the Carribean). Overall I would recommend the Iberostar Founty Beach, it was clean, comfortable and relaxing and even though we didn't visit any other hotels the comparison to the external area of other hotels the Iberostar outshines others. The Iberostar group does have there own web-site if you search the internet that shows pictures of the pool etc.

I went to this hotel in september with my boyfriend and his family, there were 8 of us altogether. On arrival we went to our rooms and was a bit dissapointed that it was a back one with no view of the pool. never mind was very spacious and had side view of the sea. The pool... more
