fabulous break
I stayed at the Marietta apartments in June having decided at short notice to book a trip away on my own. After I booked it I read a number of bad reviews which left me feeling very aprehensive-but I really needn't have worried. As soon as I arrived Marietta went out of her way to make me feel welcome and I had a wonderful stay. The apartment was clean and bright and the cooking facilities were perfectly adequate for my needs. The pool area was spotless and there were sunbeds available free of charge. There were several little touches too like a cupboard full of books to just help yourself to. The home cooked food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The small village had a lovely little bakery where I bought fresh croissants and cheese pies and an amazing little pattiserie which sold the best cakes I think I ever tasted and really cheap cones of icecream. A pleasant way to while away an evening is to have a drink and sit outside Giannis in the village square watching village life go by. Cheap regular buses take you in to Rhodes town via the villages on the coast and I took a catamaran to Turkey from there which was quite an experience in shopping! I also hired a car via Marietta for 35 euros and spent a day exploring the south of the island. At one point I swam in a deserted cove with the fish for company in crystal clear warm water-heaven indeed. Thoroughly recommend this holiday and Mariettas to families and anyone wanting a relaxing break.
a relaxing holiday
we have stayed in pastida for many years.the last three we have stayed at mariettas.we feel very relaxed here.we call it our second home.the family are wonderful and cant do enough for you.ignore other bad reviews.this is a lovely place to stay and we are going again in september for 2 weeks and cannot wait to see our many friends that we see every year.the walkers from hastings
back again
well we first booked into mariettas on the 28th aug this year. we loved it (see earlier review) we flew back home on sept 12th and loved it that much we flew back out on the 26th sept for another visit. booked to go again sept next year and we are a couple who (apart from when we go to greece) always go all inclusive in top class hotels. cant wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!
Compared to the last apt... This place sucks!
Sorry folks, but we have stayed at Greek self-serve apts, and this pales in comparison (and they were rated the same!). Dingy, dimly lit little hole. It felt sort of like a cave w/o the ammenities. If you are looking for a quiet, restful night, plan to pay extra for air, because there are no screens on any of the windows and if you do keep them open, you will be entertained, all night, by your noisy neighbors. The town, although close to the old city is, well, not memorable. I would spend a few extra dollars on slightly nicer digs - and don't let these other people tell you they don't exist in Greece. They do - I have stayed in them.
Perfec!
Firstly just have to say i cant believe anyone can have stayed at Marietta's, met the family, and still write a bad review. It was my second holiday with my partner and it was perfect. So many things rolled into one and i think was good for everyone and anyone. We found everything very cheap, food, drink, etc. Admitedly the air con was a bit but they have to make their money somehow when their accomodation charges etc are so cheap! i would recommend this Hotel apartments to anyone and everyone whwther you're after a self contained sort of holiday or a base to explore from, as during our 2 weeks we did our fair share of both. The family are incredibly helpful, friendly and funny-really made our holiday. For those who complained about the apartments, etc...you obviously have ridiculously high standards considering you only paid about £75 a week! i have paid much more for other holidays and been disappointed, this was a wonderful place and i will be back!!!
money grabbing
Very basic apartment with a tiny fridge, no oven just a hob, a frying pan and a huge pan. No toaster, grill, dishes etc so very difficult to self cater. The hotel charged ridiculous prices for things, for example the wine was 10 euros in the shop and could be bought elsewhere for 5. The airconditioning was also expensive. The area of Pastida is away from everything and not one of the pretty parts of Rhodes. It is very cheap however, so if you go there just don't expect to be able to cook yourself and don't spend money in the hotel, eat and shop elsewhere for better quality and value. I think it would be much improved if they charged fair prices for things and not double, as was often the case. I bought a small water, a beer and 2 ice-creams and it was 15 euros in the hotel, whereas I fed the whole family plus 6 beers, drinks for the kids and a free flowing supply of nibbles at the nearby champion bar for the same price.
Not good
The trip got off to a bad start when we arrived at the "hotel" at 3am to find no one there to check us in. I had to sit with my 3 children in our hire car until the morning. They just blamed the tour company. So be careful if you have a night flight. It was meant to be half board, but this only included a continental breakfast and one course (no drinks) at dinner, and you were restricted to the cheap dishes. Because it is out of the way (hire car essential) there is no competition, so they charged what they liked. A small glass of ice with a splash of the fizzy drink of your choice ? £1 a glass. Unless you want to roast at night the air conditioning costs £30 a week, but this is only in the bedroom and ours just leaked all over the balcony. Our flight was at 3am but they insisted we vacate the room at midday - 15 hours before the flight in 40C heat. I just checked us into the Hilton, which is where we should have gone in the first place.
Well we liked it
I have to say we thought the Marietta Apartments were exactly what we were looking for, small and quiet and friendly, away from the noise and bustle. Of course, do your research first, and it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a quiet relaxing poolside holiday, with some self catering (facilities are typically Greek basic, but much better than some places I've stayed at, we made some lovely meals), supplemented with good food in the bar, and tavernas in the village, it will suit you fine. There are several food shops in easy walking distance, our apartment was clean, spacious and airy (although I can't speak for any others) and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It is also an excellent base for a sightseeing holiday, the staff will arrange car hire for you at a competitive rate, it is 10 or 15 mins drive into Rhodes old town, and ideally located to explore the island. If you want a large complex with lots going on adjacent to a beach, this isn't it, but you should know that before you book. I would definitely go back again, if I go back to Rhodes I wouldn't look for anywhere else.
great for couples
Firstly I would just like to say that Rhodes is one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited, some of the most beautiful beaches and scenery we have ever seen, the locals are very friendly, and there is so much to do, a car is an absolute must. and we will definitely be returning again Now for the Marietta apart hotel, firstly this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, if you don’t have a car I would most definitely forget it, the beaches are miles away, and it is impossible to walk there on account of there being no foot paths, and the temperature in the summer would probably kill you, you’re a good hours walk from any resort, some of the reviews are very misleading, as I said if you don’t want to be confined to the complex a car is a must especially with children. The Marietta apart hotel has I believe 35 rooms, of which all are different, we stayed in room number 31,to be completely honest it was very disappointing, it was a very dark room with only 2 windows it was impossible to tell if it was day or night, we stayed self catering, again very disappointing, you are provided with a hotplate and absolute minimum cooking utensils, totally impossible to prepare a family meal, no television or toaster, or grill, absolute basic furniture, if we had stayed longer than a week it could have been a real problem, the cleaner came in 3 times in 7 days and does a good job, it really is not a self catering complex, I think the whole idea is to send you in to their restaurant by default, extremely basic apartments The hotel is run by Michael and Marietta, who I must say are very helpful and pleasant, and the restaurant caters for all tastes, and does some lovely food, this is great for couples, but if your on a budget with kids it could be quite expensive, hence making use of the self catering side that really is not there. The pool again is lovely and clean but very small; it is no where near as big as the pictures have you believe. I would say the Marietta has a lot going for it, especially for couples, and the hotel is very clean, but I am going to be completely honest and say I don’t really think it is a self catering complex, we never managed to prepare one single meal within the apartment, it is all really geared for couples, Personally I would not return again with children on account of the lack of self catering facilities, and the remote location, but if I was with just my wife and had a car I would return tomorrow There rental prices are very competitive though and if you like eating out, and if you have a driving license then you wont go wrong here, very basic but very clean, and I think I have been very honest and fair ,and it really is true what they say about the sun in Rhodes wow !!!!!!!!!
The dungeon!!
Having stayed in Mykonos before, I wanted to book an apartment close to the Town Centre. I was staying for a week and booked a few months ahead. I did a web search and found accommodation advertised at the ‘Marietta’s Hotel Complex’. I opted for an apartment rather than a studio as there was the possibility that there would be 3 of us. In the end only 2 of us could make it but I was still looking forward to the extra space that an apartment would provide. The website suggested that every apartment came with a balcony or veranda so I was looking forward to sipping a cold beer at the end of a day in the sun. In the end, I was bitterly disappointed. The so-called apartment was a room with a dividing wall, which had a large gap cut into it, and the veranda/balcony was non-existent. There was a terrace but accessing it involved a 100 yard walk. The cooking facilities didn't work and the air-con grill looked as if it could do with a good scrubbing. The website referred to ‘Marietta’s Hotel Complex’ but there was no such thing – or at least I don’t consider a few rooms for rent as a hotel. The street was noisy with local kids running around. The apartment had no window and the only daylight came through the door. As you can imagine, staying there felt like a dungeon and the accommodation affected our holiday so much so that I contemplated flying home. Marietta was friendly, and picked us up at the airport, but I didn't see her after parting with my cash. On the plus side, the apartment was central and clean but I would suggest staying elsewhere if you want to enjoy your holiday!!!!
