21 Paying Quests for WEDDING DISASTER with NO One BIG Enough to say SORRY for OVER 2 Months NOW!!!
1 / 10
Feb 2009, bartchanz

Where to Start.
First DO NOT Go any hotel in the area of Playa Dorado ESPECIALLY VIVA WYDHAM PLAYA DORADO to get married as you will be married by a DRUNK Civil named Dr.Jose Ismael Guerrero. Who was 2 and half hours LATE for a SUNSET wedding!!! Who also we were TOLD(probably more LIES)?? IS THE ONLY MAN TO MARRY ANY ONE IN PLAYA DORADO. Smelling like a Rum Distiller. Did not ever say hello or SORRY!!! Just slurred his way through 1 simple page of vows and could not get it right, Calling the groom the wife. And then he vanished into the night with all His $$$.
But we believed the LYING to the Bride & Groom started as soon as we got to the VIVA WYNDHAM. Right from check in with only 8 people to start, rooms were wrong no VIP bracelets for bride and groom for 2 days.
ROSENGELLA the wedding Co ordinator for Viva Wyndham was of NO Help what so ever. She resorted to Crying in front of the bride on the HER wedding day several times to make the bride feel sorry for her the co ordinator. This was the first of a week of being LIED and CRIED to at daily meetings wasting our holiday time.
This Hotel VIVA WYNDHAM PLAYA DORADO should NOT Advertise Having wedding Ceremonies. Because They DO NOT have the STAFF or MANAGEMENT Capable of performing such an easy task. For 21 QUEST who forked out about $ 40,000 in total.
- Wedding was for 5:00 GROOM was down at the beach at 4:00, in the hours time no one was trying to get any thing ready for 5.
- By 5 the tent was still not decorated with flowers etc. No wedding cake. Even if the judge was at the beach for 5 the hotel was not ready for the ceremony.
- BRIDE ready to leave room at 5 when she is told the judge was going to be late.
- BRIDE decided to come down to the beach at 5:30 as we were losing light. This is what we wanted a sunset wedding for our pictures.
- BRIDE & GROOM & the photographer decide to get what pictures we can so we take pictures with the groom while the bride is hiding then the bride took pictures while the groom hide.
- Boutonnieres for groom and groom mens were given to us late
- Because of this there were no pictures of the bride and groom taken together also missing with was the brides father for pictures with the groom.
- Pictures of bride and groom were taken the next day as it was too dark to get any sun-setting beach pictures.
- While waiting for the judge the bar was shut down and not serving drinks to our 19 quests. So some of our quests went to purchase drinks from the plaza next door.
- While waiting for the judge it became very dark so we asked to have the one flood light already up in a tree to come on for our wedding this did not come on until after we were married.
- The Tiki lights that were set up for the ceremony only 4 worked the rest had no fuel or wicks.
- So one of our quests ran to their room where they happened to have tea lights which we put in wine glasses for light.
- Judge shows up over 2 and a half hours late. Smelling of ALCOHOL!
- No lights ready for ceremony no microphone for people to here judge or translator.
- There was a different translator than what was promised. Because wedding co ordinator could not keep it together!
- Our quests served the champagne to our party.
- Father of the bride paid extra $10 a person over 10 quests for the champagne and cake service that we provided ourselves.
- Promised private 1 hour at the beach restaurant for our party did not happen.
- Other quests were being served during our ceremony at restaurant.
- The day after we took pictures of the bride and groom on the beach. Could not do it with the wedding party as 5 quests had already left for the airport early the next day.
- In the wedding package we were to keep our room for a late check out but were kicked out for V.I.P.'s ??????
- The quest service manager understood we and our quests were unhappy and did not know how to handle the situation.
We were offered to have one excursion for Bride and Groom which we did ask for a helicopter ride which did not happen in 5 days.
Several times we and our parents asked to talk to a manager we were continued to be push away and not dealt with. One day while walking back to the hotel with a staff member he pointed out what we were told was an assistant manager we talked to him about speaking to the manager but nothing seemed to happen except being ignored by him for the rest of our time at the resort. This happened again when the animation manger asked to speak with the bride & groom and our mothers and one other quest to his office where he asked what we could do to make us happy. He offered a week free at the resort and our helicopter excursion, and said he would talk to the manager. We were than ignored again by him for the rest of our stay, with no answers.
On our last day we talked to the quest service manager
In the morning with no more answers but wanted a meeting for 2 in the afternoon being told we would meet the REAL Manager? I told her we would be at the beach if the manager wanted to talk to us. 3 o'clock she came down to the beach asked to come to meet the manger in his office. As we the bride and groom along with the grooms father walked to the office we sat down, than were told that this would not be where we would be meeting him. We waited for 15 minutes and told that he was busy, then we left and told them that if he wanted to talk to us we were at the beach.
2 hours left in our stay and Chantal was followed into the washroom by the quest service manager asking to come meet with the manager again.
We feel we were lead along from the time of our wedding to the time we left. Just pushed aside and LIED to our Faces on several occasions. The groom feels liked he was ignored and the bride feels to have been preyed on when not with her groom. Wasting our holiday time that we paid for. All our time wasted and in 6 days we did not see or talk to or hear from A REAL Manager.
We the bride and groom have worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years and have been in several managerial positions including running hotels in 3 different countries. A number of our other quests work in the hospitality industry as well and all of us agree that this is the worst display of customer relations anyone has seen. If anyone of us acted as the So Called Manager of Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada did to 21 quest spending tens of thousands for holidays and a wedding. Let alone would you lose your job but you would be lucky to ever work in the hospitality industry again.
- Everything that had happened and said in this letter can be confirmed by anyone of our 21 quests and has been documented in letters from the hotel for the wedding, and in video & thousands of pictures.
- Viva Wyndham Playa Dorado Should NOT advertise any sort of wedding package to be paid for, Plus Paying For Extras.
We as a bride and groom feel cheated and lied to. And Do Not Wish this to happen to anyone else in the future on their Wedding Day, so please pass along to anyone thinking of getting married in the Dominican.
Because we will never get this day back, and Our Day Was RUINED by VIVA WYNDHAM Playa Dorado.
BIG THANKS to BELKIS the photographer who was more help to us on our wedding day and after then anyone else. She does not work for VIVA??? As told by hotel??? Amazing Photograher (belkisfoto@hotmail.com)
Great service from ANGEL & RAFIELLE THANKS
Jason & Chantal 2 Months 8 days and still No SORRY!!!!!!!
PS For future couples Do Everything yourself keep it simple. Do not pay anyone, including getting a friend ordaned to perform the ceremony. MARTY was SOOOOOO Close to Marrying Us

accommodation is very basic even...

accommodation is very basic even though you pay for a superior room, staff are friendly enough but have little or no English and each one tells you a different answer to your questions. (the staff on the beach are great and their English is good) although there are three restaurants, the Bizia and the Chinese do not open every night and nether open together. at the weekend you are invaded by the locals who are both loud and rude they also take over the place, the staff tend to ignore you and see to their needs first, to the point that the waterfall over the pool is only on when they are there or if they have people looking around. you can have 1 bottle of coke and sprite each day along with 1 lt of water(in you room) but if you ask for an other bottle water they will charge you.
saying all that both my friend and i had a great holiday as we made the best of a bad deal and the weather was great but l for one wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very happy with resort. Nice clean...

Very happy with resort. Nice clean apartments and friendly staff.
Food is amazing, with the buffet providing different specialties daily. Good choice at the bar, and fantastic beach restaurant where entertainment in the form of a calypso group can be found.
Didn’t manage to use the watersports available as the heat was far too overwhelming to participate in anything active!
The shopping plaza is a few minutes away from our apartment and is a safe walk away.
Would definitely go again.

My fiancé and I stayed in the Viva...

My fiancé and I stayed in the Viva Wyndham for 2 weeks at the beginning of Sep, overall the holiday was amazing and the surroundings are beautiful.
There are a few things to bear in mind when going to the Dominican rep:
There's no need to order the tourist card from the embassy before you fly out as you can queue for it on arrival which most people seem to do. Also it takes ages for the baggage to come through so you won't be saving any time anyway.
Once you get your luggage and come through the arrivals you'll be swamped by porters offering to take carry your luggage for you, a simple no thanks might be all you need though a few can be pushy. Might be a good idea to have a few single dollar bills ready.
On arrival at the hotel the check in was nice and easy and another porter will take your bags up to your room (for another tip). We had a junior suite which was nice and big and very clean, the maids come every day and we left her a few dollars tip at the start of the holiday and she left us extra bottles of coke and water.
The animation staff are brilliant and really friendly, one guy called Franklin is the campest person you could ever meet and you can guarantee he'll put a smile on your face. The activates are great as well, including water sports at the beach and football tournaments etc.
The only problem I had with the place was the food, I didn't really like much at the buffet restaurant and the Chinese a la carte restaurant wasn't very nice either, the beachside restaurant was great though and there's a pub in the plaza nearby which sells British meals.
We went to ocean world and did the dolphin and sea lion encounter which was amazing.
Overall the holiday was excellent, the resort is spotless and feels very safe.

We booked this holiday very very last...
7 / 10
Jun 2005, Miss F Smith

We booked this holiday very very last minute, basically 9.30am in the morning collected tickets at 10am at airport by 11.30am and fly at 1.30pm the same day!! Big rush and didn’t have named accommodation just that it would be Playa Dorada. Travel Agents Thomson’s were superb so helpful and made the booking stress free - thanks to Vicki. Flight with MyTravel could have been better, seats very cramped, our meal had been forgotten but that was resolved. On returning MyTravel flight attendants were very rude and unhelpful. Check in was poor putting people in seats apart from each other even if you were first to check in at the airport and didn’t advise you that you were not sitting together. Air stewards attitude stank and I thought they actually tried to make your flight uncomfortable what they gained from this I really don’t know.
Anyway................. the holiday made up for all of that.
The hotel on arrival is lovely. Staff very friendly if possible bit slow at dealing with you, but hey over their everything is done at a slow pace........ no rush........ can do it tomorrow.. but the staffs friendliness made up for it. Lots going on during the day so never dull moment and if you just want to watch the idiots taking part in the games/activities again it keeps you amused!
Room was nice, clean, air conditioning very affective, bed so big you can loose each other in it!!
The pool area was lovely and always plenty of loungers that were very comfortable. But I have to say the Beach was the best ever, why lie next to the pool?!?!?! Beach was 5 minutes away and so so nice. Clear blue water plenty of loungers and very comfortable. So relaxing, you do get the locals passing trying to sell you things but a polite no thank you was enough to make them pass you buy.
Lots of water sports available for the active people.
Gorgeous walk along the beach passing the other hotels and watersports areas and in the morning can be very quiet and peaceful, but in the afternoon much more going on.
Beach restaurant was lovely and food always available that was very nice. Staff were so friendly and had great rapport with the holiday makers.
All inclusive was good. Drinks free all the time - beer was drinkable, spirits could have been watered down?? cocktails always on offer.
Food served in the dining room was nicely presented. Lots of meat dishes and array of vegetarian choices available. Some people complain that meals were similar every day - there was always a pasta dish on offer, fish of some sort, meat of akind, soup, steamed vegetables, pizza, fruit etc so there was variety but yes similar dishes were served but you can’t eat all of them in one day so a choice was given of what you could have over your weeks stay.
Two a la carte restaurants were lovely. Chinese restaurant was nice not your normal British Chinese food but similar in a way. The service and presentation was lovely, very relaxing and nice as a special meal.
Restaurant on the beach is gorgeous at night, with candle light and the sounds of the ocean and the two gentlemen playing their guitars.
The Hotel has recently (2004 I think) been upgraded and refurbished so very new and modern. Was really nice and very quiet at night. Two local pubs nearby that were good fun especially Hemingway’s - Karaoke and British music with still some of the local music. Good fun! The Casino nearby small, nice to visit but expensive!!
Nightclub close by fun, this is where all the locals go.
Only down thing apart from the flight was that my friend and myself both got some kind of food poisoning and were violently sick and had diarrhoea for days. On returning to Scotland the doctor thinks it is Salmonella Food poisoning. Not sure how we got it but it hasn’t been pleasant. Not sure what it is that we have eaten but didn’t get it until after we had eaten at the Beach Restaurant one evening on day 5 so must have been something that wasn’t quite cooked properly. Don’t let this put you off. Just be careful to eat freshly cooked food, drink the bottled water as we did and were advised. Am sure it was just unfortunate.
Food Poisoning has been unpleasant let me tell you , but the location, hotel, facilities, atmosphere, weather, peacefulness, and friendliness made up for it.
