" Do go to Rhodes. Do go to Stegna... "

Do go to Rhodes. Do go to Stegna Beach. Do travel with Kosmar. DO NOT STAY AT CONSTANTINOS APARTMENTS!

Despite some previously goods reports I implore anyone wishing to holiday in Stegna Beach to stay at Stegna Mare apartments or somewhere else other than Constantinos - its just not worth the risk.

I may as well just paste in my email that I've just sent to Kosmar.

Unwelcomed.
Bins NEVER emptied.
Towel change - once.
Constantinos staff never around and rarely happy to help.
Pool/Oil slick not properly cleaned.
Room not properly equipped with self catering appliances.
Room door leaked water when it rained.
Air conditioning piping loose on wall of apartment and noisy banging against wall.
Beds like bricks.

A crying shame considering the excellent flight, transfer and service received all round from the rest of the package.

And I would like you to show to recent photo of the complex on your website so that people are aware of the the second story of apartments built on the left hand side which COMPLETELY blocks out ALL sunlight to the pool area no matter what time of day - who the hell was responsible for that genius planning??? Ridiculous and misleading!

Will be back to Stegna, just not staying at Crapstantinos Sheds!

" Am loathed to give my views as am... "

Am loathed to give my views as am already (after only one visit) pretty possessive of Stegna and want to keep it to myself! (But am not that unkind – as I was seeking advice on it before I went too).

Resort as a whole.. Idyllic, peaceful and totally chilled.

Plenty of Taverna's to choose from to ensure a varied eating experience every night (even for a fortnight) and Tassos does the absolute best ever Saganaki Cheese we have ever tasted in all our visits to Greece and her islands. Antonis was fab, great guy, great cooking and so unusual to see a white rabbit wearing a red collar with a bell on hopping around the restaurant. At first my stomach dropped thinking that it may be on the menu but was assured that 'Astroli' was a family pet! Other shout outs to Tony at Knights Castle whose cooking was A1, Stegna Star and their amazing breakfasts, Beba the Italian Restaurant who do the best pizza's in the world! (I've not yet been to Italy to compare them... they are proper Italian, speak no English but with the help of the international hand sign language and pointing etc... gets you a real corker of a meal if you fancy a break from Moussaka!).

Many others catered for us most adequately - I don't think there is a bad one amongst them however we thought we were going for the big guns when we ventured down to Porto Vecchio for a posh nosh but were disappointed at the service and the quality. Shame, as it is a great spot and could do so much better with a little more attention to detail and an extra cook or two to relieve the obviously over stretched one they have now. No one will try to coax you in to any Taverna either... it is quite safe to wander past them all as many times as you like without someone hassling you to see the menu or step inside. Thumbs up to them for that - its refreshing!

We hired a moped from down by Extreme (who also hire cars out) and there is another (Gianni's I think) nearer the centre of the resort. We paid 120€ for a week which was 20€ cheaper as we mentioned that Jack from Jack's Bar sent us to him - always pays to drop names! (We had actually made friends with him and it was his wife who sent us there!)

Talking of Jack's Bar - great! What a great family and a wicked bar to hang out in. Karen has lived in Chicago so we were shocked to hear her when she first spoke to us! But what a totally nice family.. We were even invited to their daughter's (Anna Maria) first birthday party and we were made to feel welcome too, what an experience - we were so honoured to share this with them all.

The Blue Window right down the far end is such a lovely place to sit and chill too, great views over the whole resort and the actual bar is done out to such an authentic and high standard... stunning. Take a torch though as the light on the hill could be out and it can get pretty dark plus a little breezy as you are up on the hill looking over the bay.

The few Supermarkets are ample for your basic needs, selling a small selection of just about everything for your apartment/beach fun/souvenir shopping etc. More than enough stock to satisfy your demands I’m sure (if not, you shouldn't be going to Greece!). There is also a Gift Shop/Market at the other end of the resort which has a super range of rugs/bags/wall hangings/linen/ceramics etc... and really nice people (look out for their dog Max - cutest dog ever!).

We stayed at the Constantinos in the centre of the resort which was fabulous. Sam, the owner, was great.. We always made the time of day for him as we passed through and he always returned the courtesy. He looks after his pool with great pride and takes the same attitude toward his rooms. There are a few rules to abide to within his property but this makes for a safe, clean and enjoyable atmosphere for all the guests. Air con is quite expensive (even more so for us as we had a large family room, No 13, even though we were only a party of 2 but it meant our air con was 12€ per night... other rooms I believe were approx 9€). We would not hesitate to stay there again though. What better location with a supermarket on one corner of the drive and a bar on the other with a phone box too... we had it made! Our travel kettle saw no use again as there was a brand new one in the apartment!

The beach was great. Some places were shallower for further, just depended where you decided to pitch! In all areas though, the water was the clearest I have ever experienced, even at chest height, the fish were as clear as a bell when looking down at your feet. Most sunbeds went for approx 6€ for 2 with a brolly. We found the ones belonging to En Plo Taverna were nice (you got a little table with them too!) and the sea there went out at a more gradual depth so plenty of wading to be had rather than half a dozen steps before you’re up to your neck!

I could go on and on about the place... it's great! But don't go expecting a lively night life, this is a place to go for a total chill out and a calm down (sort of the detox resort of Rhodes!). I had the best time, really. Most restaurants and the 3 bars will have you until you want to go but with the chilled atmosphere that Stegna has - you'll be dozing into your Mythos and ready for your comfy bed before you realise it!

Word of warning though... if you do get a moped, please watch the steep, winding hill, particularly on your way down as the last hairpin always snatched our front wheel out... we never came off but it can be very hairy indeed! Take care and watch the goats!

Most of all, enjoy the serenity. Its hard to come across these days before the developers move in. Fingers crossed that they don't manage too here (they'd have to blow the mountain out to do so but it’s not unheard of!).

It would have been nice to see a Kosmar rep at the airport on the return journey as it was bedlam. We eventually saw one after we had queued for an hour and were near the check in desk, luckily we had chosen the right queue (many had to vacate it and run to the other desks when the other Gatwick flight desk opened!). Usual Greek airport chaos.

Marks out of 10? - 50 ! It’s that great!

" We have just returned from a lovely,... "

We have just returned from a lovely, relaxing holiday at the Constantinos Studios in Stegna. Like everybody else who read the reports about the studios we were a bit worried, but they were quickly laid to rest.

The owner Sam was very welcoming and time to talk to you at anytime. My family was the envy of everyone with our lovely and spacious two bed apartment which was right next to the pool.

There were many restaurants to choose from but the pick of the bunch was knight’s castle and marinas. Few bars like Mercedes bar with a good karaoke night for the small and big kids. Jacks bar right next to the Constantinos.

The water park is a must 55 euros for a family of three great entertainments. Lindos was lovely to especially going up on a poor old donkey but make sure you come back down the right way and not on the donkey track like we did. At least Kosmar got something right for a change, all is to say is happy holidays at the Constantinos studios.

" My daughter and I have just returned... "

My daughter and I have just returned from a wonderful week in Stegna. Like others, I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the comments so I knew what to expect and went prepared.

We arrived on wed. 15th August at around 2pm to brilliant sunshine and didn't waste too much time in getting to the beach which was very clean and child friendly.

The bus to Rhodes is once a day and I would advise to be at the bus stop at 8.30am as the bus could arrive anywhere between 8.30 and 9.15am.
There is a bus at 10.30am to Archangelos and this was usually on time.

I hired a car for a day at Extreme in Stegna and it cost me 80 euros. Don’t go there.
There are another two car hire places which are much much cheaper. If you are going to hire a car make sure that you have your whole driving licence with you and not just your photo card.

We enjoyed many a meal at the En Plo and got very friendly with Kiki and George, the owners. Kiki was nearly in tears when it was time for us to go home. I would strongly recommend eating there.

Another great day was had by going out on the glass bottom boat (15 euros for adults and 10 for children).
Skipper George (everyone we met seemed to be called George) gave us a wonderful time and let my 16 year old daughter drive the boat.

Lindos is a must to visit but be prepared to pay more for everything there.
I stayed in Lardos about 20 years ago and couldn't believe how the place had changed-certainly more commercialised.
Sam and his wife were friendly and would recommend asking them about any local queries, especially the car hire.

You are a bit cut off in Stegna but if you want a get-away-from -it-all holiday then you'll have a great time. Wouldn't recommend going in July or August if you don’t like very hot temperatures. Kiki told me that September was an ideal month.

Rhodes town is def worth a visit and only cost 6 euros return. Be aware that the last bus back to Stegna is around 3pm but you can get a bus that will drop you off at Archangelos at around 6pm and then a taxi to Stegna.

Wouldn’t advise on walking up or down the steep hill as you'd either get killed with the heat or killed by the young motorcyclists!
Lastly, there are two good supermarkets in stegna(we would call them mini markets) and the prices are very good.

Buy refuge bags and this will solve the problem of not having your bin emptied.
Our room was cleaned on the Friday and we had a change of sheets and towels.

We never used the air conditioning- we just left our doors open at night and felt very safe in doing so.

" We had a really good time staying at... "

We had a really good time staying at Constantinos. Marina and Sam made us feel really welcome and the people were really friendly.

The pool was exceptionally clean. The room was lovely. The food was nice especially in the Knights Castle.

Our rep was not helpful in any way. The only thing I would not recommend is hiring a motorbike, you can be the safest driver on the road but there are no road rules. One of them just completely drove into us and knocked us off and caused us to have gravel rash all up one side of our body.

Other than that it was excellent!

" The holiday from hell. Having... "

The holiday from hell. Having travelled to most Greek islands and to 3rd world countries these apartments and the owner caused my family and myself the most upset and trauma in my whole travel years.

The apartments on arrival are filthy and dangerous. The owner a very angry crazy man.
There was no food served at the bar, the freezer advertised ice creams but remained empty. We had cockroaches and so did most of our neighbours. Our fridge was hot and smelled of gas. This was reported and nothing done. The bathroom smelled of sewage.

The toilet would not flush; when it did it came back up the drain in the bathroom floor, same with the drain for the bathroom. A tiny light above the bathroom sink, so had to shower or bath in the dark. I’ll equipped kitchen. Wires all over. Everyone seemed to get charged different prices for the air con, but it didn’t work properly in most rooms.

Then the owner would mess with the electrics in the white box and switch it off. He was the most expensive air con in stegna. The steps from the pool down to the bar area are very dangerous.

The pool open from 10.00am to 6.00pm, and the owner would start to fill the pool with the hosepipe around 5.00pm, and would get angry if you were not out of the pool on time. He even put my children’s airbeds in the skip outside the apartments, so all strangers were pulling them out and walking off with them. He would hide the pool table equipment so it could not be played.

Beds were broken or very hard, one young teenager was going to have to seek medical help went she got home due to the condition of her bed it left her with a very stiff shoulder. He got very angry if you had sand on your feet and very angry if you left a night light on to find your way back in at night time.

I was evicted from my apartment at 1.30 on a Saturday afternoon. The owner said I had sworn at his son, he gave me half an hour to get out, or he would throw all my belongings out himself. He terrified my 2 children. We had to leave with all our belongings in front of everyone.

He then told Kosmar that I had broken a glass on purpose and then cello taped it to the floor for other guests to walk on. The rep was brilliant and said he is a bully and a crazy man, and he is not in the Kosmar brochure next year.

She said his behaviour is getting worse, and that head office were going to have to talk to him. I was told they have had trouble with him for over a year, so why is Kosmar still sending people here. It’s good he’s not in the brochure next year. But I pity those who are booked for this year.

Tourists please please beware and take care, or if possible change your holiday now; I have never ever been spoken to or treated like this by any man in any country before.

" After booking our holiday then... "

After booking our holiday then reading some of the reviews we thought, oh no what have we done. How wrong were the reviews!

Constantinos studios were clean and basic what more do you ask for. We were given our room (room 14) which was the biggest apartment I have ever been in. (As I holiday 3-4 times a year I have been in a lot of apartments).

Hugh balcony over looking the swimming pool and pool tables. Ideal for letting the kids go down on their own as we could easily see them. Talking about the swimming pool Sam takes pride in his pool as it must be the cleanest pool that I have been in. Cleaned every night to maintain its high standard.

Rooms were cleaned; bed linen and towels were changed twice a week as per every Greek holiday that I have been on.

At the bottom of the drive of the complex (just yards) is a supermarket where you can buy everything that you could possible need and cheap I must say. Right across the road are big green bins so not far for you to take your rubbish. Or like some of the other reviews they obviously don’t understand what self catering means, as they expected their rubbish to be taken out daily by the housemaids. Who were very friendly always happy to help.

Air-conditioning is a must and at 9 euros day.
Sam and his wife Marina and son Constantino were very friendly and always happy to help you. My kids had a great time playing with Constantino and his mum.

Stegna it self is a very beautiful and quite. I must say we found the Knights Castle the place to eat very friendly and the food was fantastic especially the Tuna salad. Great value for your money.

Don’t be fooled into hiring a car before you go with the holiday company, you will pay more than twice the price. Extreme car hire which is at the end of the town is cheap and the cars are new. No cash machine but you can exchange your travellers cheques at the big hotel at the end of the town (can’t remember its name).

Would like to thank Sam and Marina for making my family very welcome and we will sure to make them a visit soon. All the best!!

Lastly for all you people that like to moan for the sake of moaning if you want five star treatment then book and pay for five star.

" We cannot fault the resort of Stegna,... "

We cannot fault the resort of Stegna, it is wonderful, beach is clean as is the sea, and the tavernas are all serving good food and wine and it is a good mix of locals and tourists eating.

The accommodation is basic which is normal for Greece and the owner Tsambika’s (sam for short) wife Marina is lovely speaks perfect English and is a great host. However the cleanliness of the room is another matter,( had we taken off the pillow case at the beginning of the holiday I would have had to move out the pillow was mouldy!) when we pointed this out to them all the cleaners did is cover it up with another pillow case ready for the next flight in.!) My advice is if you can check them before you sleep and complain to the rep it’s the only way to get Tsambika to do anything.

The room had a bath in it but no plug top tip sit on the plug hole or an upturned bowl did the trick for us. There were no shower mats either so take an extra towel as the tiled floors are slippy when wet and as they only provide one hand towel and one bath towel per guest per week, take a beach towel or two extra as if you have long hair like me it takes a while to dry the towels.

There are no safety deposit boxes or for that ATM's in Stegna the nearest cash point is in Archeangelos, a 1hr walk UPHILL all the way and we are talking cliffface type of hill and only one bus daily - so top tip take plenty of Euros or travellers cheques which can be cashed at the German hotel at the top end of the town.

All in all Stegna is beautiful for a relaxation holiday so not for teenagers as there is nothing there for them but if all you want to do is chill then Stegna is for you. WE will go back just not to those Apts.

" My parents and I visited in early... "

My parents and I visited in early June. They had a room on the ground floor right next to the pool whilst we had one overlooking the pool on the 1st floor.

Both rooms were clean and spacious enough. What more is there really to say for this kind of accommodation? Sure, for the hard-core self caterers the kitchens are limited and the amount of cutlery etc provided is rather random but that, to me, is the fun of it.

Whilst we were there another couple turned up having brought lots of pots and pans with them and told us, whilst grinning, that having been before they knew not to rely on provision of every type of cooking aid. It’s a case of understanding that you haven't paid Hilton prices so don’t expect a Hilton experience.

Get yourselves to Stegna. Enjoy the views, the beach and the sea is unparallel in Rhodes (trust me I have explored every inch of the island), get yourself down the many restaurants and enjoy the local food. If those things alone wouldn’t outweigh not having 49 knives and forks then you ain't living.

The key is, in my opinion, if you have a tendency to moan then I would recommend somewhere else. This resort is about kicking back and taking it easy and once you get into that way of thinking then bingo - the place is wonderful. If you can’t get into this way of thinking then don’t waste your time on a holiday here.

The acid test - well, we're going back. Hopefully see you there next June.

" First of all let me say how lovely... "

First of all let me say how lovely Marina and Sam are. They are the perfect hosts. The apartments are basic as is the norm in Greece but if you are in a two bedroom apartment they are very spacious with a huge balcony (room 14).

The rooms are cleaned once a week when the towels and sheets are changed and bins emptied. This we found was adequate. The pool is spotless as Sam religiously cleans it every night and cleans the pool area every morning.

Stegna itself is a lovely little resort. We had some lovely meals there and all the people are very friendly and welcoming.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Constantinos Apartments to anyone wanting to visit the lovely Stegna.

" Was a little worried about my holiday... "

Was a little worried about my holiday after reading mixed reviews but I had absolutely nothing to worry about.

The room was basic but clean and comfortable. The only problem was the kitchen, which was in fact just a sink and 2 hobs. Although there was a kettle there was no where to actually make a cuppa.

It actually didn’t matter though; all the restaurants in Stegna were lovely. The prices were reasonable, service good and the food more than acceptable. The cocktails at the En Plo are particularly good!

The beach is lovely and very clean; with good water sports (we really enjoyed the speed boat).

We ventured into Rhodes town on the bus which was easy to do and cheap at 3 euros, although do be aware there is only one bus a day.

Overall we really enjoyed our time in Stegna. It’s very quiet but perfect for a relaxed beach holiday.

" We have just returned from a week in... "

We have just returned from a week in the beautiful resort of Stegna, and would return any time. On our arrival at 5 pm our room, no.11, was not quite ready, so we had a beer in the bar and chatted to the guests who were waiting to be picked up. They all seemed to have had a good stay and I overheard one family saying that they had been the year before and would be back again.

Having worried about all the bad comments on this site, we began to feel better! Our room was basic but clean, we had a wardrobe and 2 drawers, new white bath towels and for the 1st time ever in Greece, a KETTLE! I had taken cleaning wipes but didn't need them, and bin liners so that we could empty our bin every day, so no problem there. The studio was cleaned half way through the week.

As we didn't get the sun directly on to our room it never got too hot at night, so I cannot comment on the air conditioning, although I know some apartments had a bit of a leak.

Sam and his wife were ok and the bar was always open during the allotted times. We spent most of our evenings trying out different tavernas, all excellent value, followed by cocktails at Mercedes bar, what lovely people, we felt really welcomed by everyone.

The beach was so near, clean, and had good water sports, provided by Nikos and Sammy, again really lovely people. As it is such a small resort you soon get chatting to everyone else, I have never been to such a friendly resort before. We had a day in Lindos, there by bus and back by taxi which was no problem, more expensive to eat there.

In Stegna we can recommend Marias, Aroma, Knights castle and stegna star.
Our flights were on time, the transfer was good and our rep, Kathryn, was lovely and very helpful. In a nutshell, a brilliant holiday, excellent resort, accommodation basic but adequate, you do get what you pay for, and the friendliest people ever!

" Reading the horror stories on here a... "

Reading the horror stories on here a couple of days before departing for our holiday somewhat dampened our spirits and I had visions of the forthcoming "holiday from hell". Well we needn't have worried!! Stegna is a lovely peaceful resort, ideal for those who are looking for a quiet family holiday. It has a nice beach, the sea is warm and crystal clear and there are plenty of bars and restaurants.

The apartments are very close to the beach and a supermarket. We had booked a one bedroom apartment and a studio apartment and both were clean on arrival. The building is modern and although the studio was quite small it was ample for two of us.

It compared very favourably with other Greek Island studios we have stayed at and the air conditioning was a bonus and worked well. Yes it is slightly expensive at 9 euros per apartment per day but it was definitely worth it for the comfort. The apartments were only cleaned once during our stay and we did have a nasty smell coming from the drains in the bathroom of one apartment on a couple of occasions but these were just minor issues.

The bar seemed to be open all of the time and was most certainly open until very late at night. The pool and surrounding areas were kept very clean. The curtains across the door were hanging off on arrival and we mentioned this to the rep the day after arrival and by the time we arrived back at the apartment that afternoon, they had been rehung.

The owner Sam was friendly, polite and pleasant throughout our stay and we had no major problems whatsoever. Other people we spoke to also seemed happy with their apartments and at least one family were there on their second visit. I would certainly be happy to stay there again.

As a small word of warning, there are no cash machines in Stegna and we didn't find any restaurants or shops that took cards, so it is wise to ensure that you take enough cash with you, unless you plan to hire a car or visit the larger resorts by bus or taxi. There is only one bus a day to Rhodes Town which leaves Stegna around 9am and returns around 3pm

" Had a great two weeks in Stegna in a... "

Had a great two weeks in Stegna in a group of two families using three apartments which were perfectly adequate. There was somewhere to sleep, have a shower and make a cuppa. What more do you need when the resort is as nice as Stegna?

Some reports portray Sam the owner quite unkindly, but if you take the time and get to know him, his wife Marina and his son "energy on legs", you get to know a lovely family.

Although the air con at the apartments is more expensive than I have previously paid, it is a must, and the odd power cut is nothing more than a slight inconvenience. Those are the most negative things about the apartments that I can think of.

Stegna itself is great and all the tavernas provide good/excellent food. Get a car and see a bit of Rhodes it's beautiful. Read these reviews then do as our party did, go with an open mind.

" For anyone visiting this resort, a... "

For anyone visiting this resort, a couple of tips :- take some anti bacterial wipes and a dustpan and brush and you won't go far wrong!

Seriously, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks here, so much so that we have just booked to go back July 2007. Yes the rooms were basic and could have been cleaned more frequently but we felt it added to the character of the holiday.

As a group of 4 adults and 4 kids (3 under 6 yrs), we have never had such a relaxing chilled out holiday. Sam (the owner) and his family were charming and very helpful, and the men of the group enjoyed many a beer and game of pool with him.

We loved the resort and would have loved to have stayed longer. Stegna is somewhere we will visit for many years to come. If anyone reading this is due to go there soon, please say a big hello to Nikos at the Mercedes Bar from Emily (my 6 yr old daughter)
