We have been to Crete a few times so when we arrived at our apartments we were very disappointed.
The room was filthy toilet seat was broken and there was a terrible smell coming from the drains we asked to move rooms but were told none available the staff were very rude and unhelpful we will be going back to Gouves again but would never stay there again.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday. We normally take a couple of days to get into the “Holiday Mode” but not this holiday! Although the arrival time was 04:00 the staff were very obliging and showed us where everything was and how it worked. There was cooled bottled water in the fridge along with ice cubes in the freezer. Our apartment was larger than we expected and furnished simply but adequately.
The pool area was well supplied with sunbeds and shades and what seemed like an endless supply of inflatable toys left by the previous holidaymakers.
The food served in the Taverna was both traditional Greek and international and was of a good standard. The cook did specials on certain nights and these were excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the Bar remained open until 2:00 if that was what you wanted although the music was turned off at 12:00.
The apartments are located about 5 mins walk from the beach up a slight hill and opposite the local bakery whose bread and cakes are wonderful. Continuing up the hill for a further 5 mins. brings you to the main road and the stops for the local Bus services travelling in both east and west directions. There are several local Bars and Tavernas all of good quality and we were never short of a change of scene. The Tavernas on the Beach are well worth a visit particularly at sunset.
We really did have a wonderful relaxing holiday and it was mainly due to the atmosphere at the apartments.

Me and 3 friends got this as a last minute deal so in light of the fact we only paid £250 each it wasn’t too bad but the real price in the brochure was twice that which would not have been good value for money.
We asked for two twin rooms and ended up with one twin room and one double (which only had one sheet) the spare bed was a fold out chair. plus the shower in one of the rooms just did not work. they were very basic and could have done with a bit of a redecoration. a couple of the electric sockets looked a bit dodgy too.
However, the newer apartments opposite (also part of the complex) were in a lot better condition the staff were really nice and friendly and sorted out our probs very quickly providing extra bedding and even recommended we should complain about the shower as it was the holiday company who was mainly responsible for their upkeep. The bar stays open all night and is very welcoming but not noisy. they keep the music down as there are families staying with kids. there is 2 pools and loads of sunloungers and its only a few mins walk from the centre of Stalis. the accommodation although not perfect was alright for the cheap price we got it.
Stalis is a bit on the quiet side only a couple of bars but its only 5 mins in a taxi to Malia though that’s the other extreme. The touts outside the bars in Malia constantly harass you to the point where they actually have picked people up and carried them into bars. however, the old town in Malia is lovely with some gorgeous restaurants and a much more relaxed and traditional feel.
Our brochure said 'outstanding beaches' this may have been true but you couldn’t really see them for the sunloungers and umbrellas completely covering every spare inch - which of course you have to pay for. you can sit on the beach on your towel for free but its usually at the end on the rocks where all the rubbish gathers.
There is LOADS to see and do in Crete the weather is fabulous and the people are friendly but out of season Stalis was a bit boring. I’d love to go back to Crete but Stalis only really caters for families. If you want something a bit different or a bit lively try somewhere else.

Our eighth holiday at the Iraklis apartments and restaurant.
The accommodation is clean and contains cooking rings (if you can be bothered), fridge, kettle, iron and board, air conditioning, safe and all the cutlery requirements (plates knives, forks, glasses, cups etc.)
Iraklis, the owner, Adonis Nectarius , Yannis and the ladies who clean the rooms and help in the kitchen, all work very hard to make you and your holiday feel special.
If ever anything has not been right in the room - a word to one of them has always got the matter rectified.
We hate it that much we are booked to go back again next year.
