Oh the stairs, so many of them no good if like my husband you have trouble breathing and walking, had to get taxi's everywhere,.Staff very friendly and cant do enough for you. Cleaning could be better. All in all a very nice holiday

Absolute Rubbish !!!!!
Booked through Thomson. Most terrible hotel, i ended up leaving after the first night and paying extra for another hotel.. (Royal Asarlik Beach - Excellent) Club Alka is on a VERY steep Hill.. Trucks will not let you sleep as they struggle to get up this hill..Hotel has constant power cuts, no generator !! so even if you pay extra for AC - you wont get it .. The room is ant infected near the doors, pillows are like bricks and the beds feel like they have been used as trampolines. My advise - do not go by the pics in the brochure, my BIGGEST mistake ! Better of paying a little more and going to Asarlik. (£67 a night B&B ) but is sooo much better. DO NOT RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY - GO ANYWHERE BUT THIS DUMP.
Expensive Youth Hostel - more like
First Impressions were ..Hey this will Do.. Then i was shown my room - Basic - Never three star. You get better for a 10 pound a night hostel accomodation up here in scotland. My room had Leaky Taps ,No TV, poor decor and the toilet smelled of damp. Took the Rep's excursions (Expensive but just as well), Food at this place was poor and expensive for what you got, caused us to eat out - Very expensive. The pool was fine and clean. but staff a bit moody - Probably because we didnt use the hotel facilities as much as some other guests (as described in an earlier review).General layout of the hotel is OK But at night its Loud Music or nothing, it does end - but just a bit loud (more to compete with other hotels than entertain resident guests). I dont know how to rate a hotel but i have stayed in plenty and I would rate this hotel as a 2 star. shopping is poor although there are plenty but its the same tat in them all and the touts are a pain in the backside after five minutes and the restaurants are worse ("PLEASE SIR COME LOOK AT MY MENU"). This is NOT a cheap place to holiday - Prices probably equal to the uk but less quality all round.... DO NOT BOOK THE CHECK OUT EXCURSION IT'S A TOTAL RIP-OFF - You Get the Main meal as part of the price but you pay for drinksand Lunch - 2 quid for a can of Diet Pepsi!!! 30 Quid for a Very light Lunch.Pay 20 Quid And just put up with the Hotel for 1 more day ...
Had a good time at club Alka
Club Alka : Gumbet Turkey Date: August 11, 2006 Reviewer: 2 Adults aged 45 to children aged 13 & 8 We have just returned from a week at Club Alka in Turkey. The hotel was as discribed on the Thompsons website and was well presented. A t the hotel : There is a small reception which is always manned. Also here there are a number of safe deposit boxes which cost £20 a week. We used the safe deposit box which needs two keys to open it. That is the one you are given and the one the receptionist has. Here you can also pay for the airconditioning at £3 pound a day. We used this service and found it very good. The only draw back is that the airconditioning unit is only in one room but by leaving the door open it does also chill the other room. We were also able to keep our room on until 6.00 pm for the extra charge of £15.00 (til 9.00 pm for £20.00). The apartments were quite basic, but were as expected, clean and functional with a large fridge. The main bar area had a large satellite TV screen, Pool table (5 YTL for one hour) a football table, which the children were allowed to use at any time, there is also a playstation at a charge of 5 YTL for 30 mins. At the bar the cost drinks were 4 YTL for a pint and 3 YTL for half a pint of Pilsen beer which we thought was reasonable. We ate at the hotel a couple of time we had a breakfast which was ok and had a snack at lunch time a chicken sandwhich which was excellent with a good size piece of chicken. The strange thing is that all of your change is given in beads which can be spent in the bar or the small shop opposite the reception which sells some basic items, we brought some honey which was lovely on toast in the morning. Bread is delivered to the shop daily and is fresh and soft. the shop will also change your beads into cash if required. The pool area is great for the kids it does have an anti slip mat that runs the length of the pool, but as with all pools running can cause accidents. Also there is a bridge that runs over the pool which one person manged to bang their head on, so be careful. Having said that the pool is clean and welcoming. The sunbeds are free and of good quality, but the most refreshing thing whilst we were there is that you could get sunbeds as late as 10:30 - 11:00 in the morning every day ! The people at the hotel were lovely mainly families and all of the kids interacted with each other and all had a great time. The hotel environment felt safe to us for the children to play in. Thursday evening the hotel puts on a turkish night which is well worth the money we paid £35 for all of us which included a free drink (two small beers and two softs drink for the kids). Gumbet itself has lots of restaurants we liked the Windmill very much and also tried China Town which is a ltlle more expensive and the Red Dragon also very good. Be prepared you are hassled alot as you walk down the street, every one wants to sell you someting or they wants you to eat at their restaurants. This was very wearing, that is why we went to Bodrum which was ok. Remember to haggle as they may give you a free drink of 10 to 15 % of your meal. We paid between 80 to 100 YTL for a meal for four with a round of drinks but no starter. The quality and variety of the food was very good. Good news if you get fed up with being hassled in Gumbet after a few days Bodrum s a bit more cosmopolitan and you do not get hassled a lot. To get there is easy take a bus wait right out the hotel and the bus picks up every 10 minutes at a cost of 1.5 YTL per person. The bus drops you off at bus station in Bodrum which takes about 15 miniutes on the bus. The ruturn buses are purple and there was always one waiting in the station for the return journey a great service. We when three times and there was alway a bus waiting at the station for the return journey. In all we had a very good holiday, the children did not want to come home !!!
top place!!
Apartments basic, but clean, staff excellent, the kids loved it there.Gumbet itself was like a mini blackpool, terriable. Went out of gumbet most days.
when to puke
went to club alka in sept 05 wish we never bothered. staff were totally disinterested if you didnt use the facilities i.e bar&restaurant.this hotel has it,s regulars and if you were not one of them DONT BOTHER as we were made to feel very uncomfortable. this is a very clicky hotel and we have never came across this before in all our years visiting gumbet (twice a year since 1994) If you plan to use this place as a base to explore the area i would not advise it a better suggestion would be to get a tent at the baba hotel, not too comfortable but room service is quick( in fact quicksilver) ken
Excellent Hotel-Highly Reccomended
Brilliant Accomodation provided everything needed for the perfect holiday.! Excellent Pool Area which was very clean. The Staff Could Not be faulted, their friendliness and hardwork made the holiday!
loved bodrum
Club Alka was clean tidy but very basic. The pool area was excellent staff very friendly and hard working. 1st week of may was great no problems, the second week as more tourists arrived the music down the road got so loud we never slept for two days until the tourists slowed down on their nights out. The hotel is up a extremley steep hill but u can go around this to a more gentler slope. The pubs down the road, be careful, serve fake drinks and charge high prices check first. Also women watch out for the bar dancers, we saw a few women getting felt up, and where surprised. Most of gumbet is full of young turkish men they leave their wives and girlfriends at home, no women in the resort. I prefered Bodrum town as it has more character and feels less like Blackpool. Lots of shop owners desperate for a sale make sure u barter really well for a good deal. Local bus every few minutes takes u straight to the bus station at Bodrum there u can take other buses to other destinations for less than a pound. If unsure where to go ask at the English Pub in Gumbet called The pub with no name, they are happy to tell u the pitfalls and send u in right direction. We went to Dalyan for the day excellent trip included a mud bath and sulphur bath excellent would do it again traveled down Dalyan river and seen turtles (huge) and ancient tombes in the cliff face (increadible). Night life great, food excellent as we were self catering eat out every night but noticed the prices rise slightly the 2nd week recon it will carry on throughout summer. Beer about one pound 30 for pint but shorts vary a lot. If we were not pestered every step through the town from morn to night we would have enjoyed much more. Id give the water park a miss it was closed whilst we were there but got a look at it on a coach trip we were so glad it was closed it was tiny, not for us.
great hotel
me, my partner n my daughter age 4 stayed at club alka for 1 week, the appartment was nice, staff were freindly and all in all we had a great time, the nearbybeach was not very nice so we spent most of our time in the hotel arround the pool. which we enjoyed. the hotel has entertainment like bbq nights, belly dancing etc. theres a bar which does play music but i wouldnt say its not for kids, infact there were plenty of families stayin at thr time, holiday is about enjoyin yourself wats wrong with music? i can say u can hear the music on the balcany but not in our room and it hardley kept us awake. enjoy
fantastic
This was a fantastic apartment. It was beautifully clean and ideal for families. The pool was really lovely with sunbeds and a bar area. There is also sky tv on widescreen. They also have BBQ evenings. Gumbet has a very good weekly market with designer labelled goods and the restaurants serve cuisine from many countries. This is an ideal location for families as it is not near the noisy bars or clubs. There is a good sized fridge and plenty of wardrobe space and the beds are comfortable. For a day out you must try the aqua park with the many shutes it's real fun and much cheaper than days out in England for the family.
Bad place
Stay Juli 2004 for 2 weeks. Apartment Good Persons behind the bar and reception are realy unfriendly. Will never come back to this apprtment. A lot of music in the middle of the night !! For childeren is the complex not friendly. Persons who come back from the barstreet early in the morning (05:00 - 06:00) are alowed to make a lot of shouting. This appartment is only good for young people
