Club Alka Reviews
" Excellent "
Submitted By: debbie7Management also very helpful. Very clean apartments although showers could do with a little updating but still work fine. Food very good. Could do with a bit of entertainment some evenings, unfortunately Turkish Night cancelled whilst there due to lack of support from guests.
Close to town and shops but the hill up to the apartments is a killer!!! (very steep).
If you use the bar they give you change in beads so don't want to pay using large notes of currency.
Pool is very clean and you get brilliant views from these apartments.
The only hassle we had was the locals touting for business in their restaurants - they can be quite annoying.
Salih (bar man) was brilliant, even arranged an iced birthday cake for one of our parties birthdays whilst there, he could not do enough to help you, and he made the night that bit more special!
He can also recommend good turkish bath and some good restaurants such as Caspers and China Town.
Don't forget to take a trip down Bar Street, also a must to go to Mud Baths!!
Nice beach at Bitez - well worth the taxi fare there!
Bit of a let down 'The Dreamgirls' show - mostly mimeing to background music.
Advice: Bar Street lively but some nice restaurants and quite a few shops to barter in!
Activities: Caspers and China Town, Mud Baths, Beach at Bitez, Bodrum, Gumbet Hamam are brilliant!
Good for: Beach

Submitted By: Mr S MartinLocation: Firstly, the apts are far enough from the 'heart' of Gumbet, so we were not presented with any of the all night noise you would get in the centre. Although we found it quite difficult walking the buggy up the hill from the centre 3 times a day. The 'easier' way where you walk down past the windmill is quite easy if just walking but while pushing the buggy it made my legs kill and i work in a very active occupation! Apart from the hills, the location is okay.
Cleanliness: This was the major downfall to our stay at Alka!!! On entering our apartment, it seemed clean but when we inspected the bathroom, the toilet was disgusting, there was loads of brown sludgy build up all around the toilet pan and the shower floor was surrounded in sludgy crap! The floors had just been mopped and it only took a walk from the kitchen area to the bedroom and our feet were black!!! Not good when you have a young baby who's always playing with toys on the floor. When we had a shower, it leaked out from the cubicle all over the entire bathroom floor which made it a very dangerous slipping hazard, again not good with a baby and pregnant wife!!! We complained to reception about all of this in a nice manner and nothing changed. We complained again and still nothing! The bedding and towels were changed every 3 days in our 1st week but during the 2nd week, we went with no clean bedding or towels for 6 days!!! Complained again and again and......still nothing!!! On witnessing the floor cleaning one morning, we noticed that the cleaner turned up with a dirty bucket of water (obviously the same water used from the previous apart!) and she just proceeded to mop it, no sweeping first, just barely swooped the mop over the surface and any dirt that was in the way, she just flicked into the corners or under the furniture in the rooms! Disgusting!
Outside of the rooms, the complex was actually very clean indeed apart from the shared toilets located beneath the pool. They were hit and miss, as every public toilet is in the world.
Staff: All the bar staff were really great, couldn't do enough for you and absolutely love the kids and keep them entertained. They tried their hardest to keep people on the complex at night and did well, the bar was always busy with a good atmosphere. Tip: if you have a pram/buggy, exit the complex by the side of the bar to avoid the steps and on re-entering the complex, there's a doorbell by the gate which rings at the bar and they let you back in.
Swimming Pool: The main pool does have shallow ends with steps and ladders to enter it. There are also 2 kids pools that are exactly the same depth, just opposite one another. The water in the main pool was exremely cold (the sea was actually warmer!) but good if you were baking in the sun!
Food: The food at the aparts was actually very nice and quite reasonably priced compared to some places and the portions are very generous on most dishes.
As i mentioned, the cleanliness was our biggest moaning point and due to this, we won't be returning to Club Alka which is a shame as the bar staff were great but for the money we paid, we've stayed at MUCH cleaner aparts in Gumbet. On leaving the aparts, we left about
£35 worth of shampoos, deodrants, foods etc for the cleaners (Yes, the cleaners!!! as we had bought a lot and needed to reduced the weight of our cases). When we presented them with the dressing and kitchen table full of goods, they just turned their noses up at it!!! This peeved us off completely but we had no choice but to leave it. Can't please all folk eh?! Maybe they were expecting 100 YTL cash for all their good work!
If you fancy a boat trip, go to the Happy Pub down the hill past the taxi rank near the Windmill and speak to Joseph and ask for Halil (Joseph will phone him for you) and he does excellent trips for approx £10 each including food, excluding drinks. Halil is married to a Brit so he understands our culture, tallks perfect English and is the nicest guy you could meet and his trips are not packed like the tour operator ones!!! Also, Joseph and his family are spot on and make you feel very welcome in their karaoke bar! Enjoy!

Submitted By: Miss Niccole NeyThe Staff Erkan, Baki, Adem, Mehmet, Fahti, Mustafa, Muti, Yusef, and of course DJ Nustres were excellent. Friendly, Funny, Caring.
Last year in September it was my Mum (40), Dad (40), Big Brother (20), Wee Brother (14) and Me (17), there was stuff for all of us to do we were entertained during the day and at nights.
The apartment cleaners were in everyday sweeping, our bedsheets and towels were changed every other day. The cleaners were very friendly and chatty but kept getting mixed up, I tried my best to speak some Turkish which Baki had taught me, which was helpful at times!
At nights there was plenty to do at the apartments if you didn't want to leave them, and there were plenty of bars and clubs in Bar Street!! We mostly spent our time in Roxy's and Shakers, as we got on very well with the managers and staff!!
The Turkish Night at the apartments arranged by the staff was superb, we went to 2 of them both years and will be going again this year!! The staff who were part of the Turkish Night were great, got everyone to join in. The Turkish Dancers were great too, we all loved to join in with their Turkish Dance.
At nights when Mum and Dad didn't want to stay out as long as us, the staff at the apartments would take us out and look after us, very good!!
All in all our holiday's were GREAT apart from one thing CARDIAC BRAE, but there is another way to get to and from the apartments but takes 5 minutes longer but it helps!!
We went for two weeks each time and are going back for three weeks this year!! We all would recommend Club Alka to anyone, it is suitable for all age's!!!!!
We miss the staff greatly and we will see you all soon.
Love the Ney Clan xxx

Submitted By: Miss J InnesWhen we did there was three reps, one older lady who’s was very stroppy and very unfriendly and spoke down to the other two in front of lots of holiday makers.
First impression was terrible and I can honestly say I would see no point in travelling with Goldtrail on future holidays.
However that aside, when we got off the bus at the apartment Club Alka at 4am in the morning we were then greeted by a very friendly face, the security guard, who showed us to our room opened the shop so we could get water, milk etc nothing was too much trouble ! What a fantastic greeting!
The following morning when we headed down to the lovely pool area we were greeted by many more friendly faces - I can honestly say the staff at Club Alka made the holiday one of the best we have ever had. They are fun, friendly and go out of their way to make your stay so enjoyable and fun both day and night.
Food was great, rooms were great and pool area, bar area were brilliant - our special thanks go to Nostruss, metin, fati. Mustafa and all others including the chefs who made us feel so at home in just 1 week stay.
We will definitely return soon and would recommend anyone else to stay - many thanks Tony, Jane and Jordan.

Submitted By: Mrs J PictonThe staff were absolutely brilliant! We went with our 14year old daughter and were worried that she wouldn’t like it but she loved it so much, she cried on the way home. She even went out with the staff one night and they really looked after her and I wasn’t at all worried as they are such great guys.
I didn’t rate Gumbet much as the shop keepers and the restaurant staff were always badgering you so made it slightly uncomfortable but we got used to it eventually!
The hill that runs up the side of the hotel isn’t called 'heart attack ' or suicide hill for nothing - it was so steep but was good fun. The hotel itself was really nice and the pool was a lovely temperature - which was good as the weather was scorching!
There are plenty of sun loungers so no need for saddo's to run and put towels out at 6am! We had a great room and our balcony was huge - we seriously could have played football up there.
We couldn’t have managed without the air conditioning though and the downside was its only in the bedroom and not the rest of apartment so whoever sleeps in the other two beds in the lounge area will be hot at night.
All in all I would recommend the Club Alka and would definitely go back again, if only to see the staff!!!
