" Shocking - we lasted a night "
Submitted By: Lynsey MMy friend and I booked this hotel in September, as it was recommened by the tour operator. After booking however we checked it out on the review sites. Many reviews we read were worrying, describing the hotel as dirty, badly managed and under government control after going into receivership, following a family dispute over ownership, following the death of the owner some years ago – confirmed by Baba’s own website. One went so far as to say that they would not recommend this hotel to a stray dog! We tried to get a transfer right up til the day of departure, but were told there had been no complaints & we could not be moved.
On arrival at the Baba at approximately 2 a.m, we were thankful that we had prior warning as to what we could expect. We would not have minded if the room had just been basic, old, tired and small as long as it was clean. The room was really humid after being closed up all day, making the bed linen damp. The floors were dirty throughout; we could see our foot prints in the dirt on the bathroom tiles. The bathroom was disgusting with dirt and grime all over the tiling, the shower fixture was coming away from the wall, the leaking sink tap was covered in green/blue lime scale, the toilet was dirty. The water jet at the back of the toilet had rusted and snapped, leaving a dangerous jagged edge. The door handle was so loose it practically came off in my hand! On top of that, there was blood up the shower curtain & outside the front door, as well as mould on the curtains in the room.
We called the emergency line & managed to speak to a resort rep, we were given another room which was marginally better. The hotel staff were so rude to us because we had dared to complain, dumping our cases at the bottom of the stairs after watching us struggle all the way up and more than half way back down with them - for someone with a bad back, this wasn't the best. After a relatively sleepless night on damp beds with just a sheet each to keep warm, we went down to 'breakfast'. Breakfast consisted of gone off milk for your coffee, dry scrambled eggs and sausages, burnt baked beans and dry bread.
The swimming pool was definitely green. You could see the green scum round the edge of the pool floor & in the middle of the kiddie pool, you could see white stuff floating up from the floor - the hotels excuse for this was that the kids pool was not in use, which was odd as there were definitely children on site!
The hotel Rep, Leanne was fantastic, and after showing her all the pictures we'd taken, she spoke to the manager. We were told that the hotel is in receivership after a family dispute, and is currently in the 'care' of a court appointed manager. The manager was vile to the rep, he was right in her face, shouting at her in Turkish in front of us, telling her that the hotel was not 5* so what did we expect, also that we were lying, that we had forged the pictures of the blood etc!
We were then moved 2 hotels down to the Parkim Ayaz - also a 3* hotel - what a total difference - spotlessly clean, the staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We couldn't have asked for more from this hotel - it saved the holiday for us. The staff at this hotel smiled knowingly when they heard where we had been and reception said that they had a lot of guests moving from The Baba.
The fact that this hotel was recommended to us as 3* accommodation, is concerning, as when we got there we were told that it was actually 2*.
We are very upset that after what we thought was going to be a relaxing holiday, we were put in a stressful situation, and in dealing with it, lost a day of our week’s holiday. If it had not been for the efforts of the hotel rep we would have been on the first available flight back to the UK - We cannot thank her enough for all her help.

" Dingy outdated and overrated "
Submitted By: chrisncaraThe Hotel itself is very dated, with lime green decor throughout and dirty dingy hallways which you'd not even expect from a hostel let alone a hotel rated 3*+. Practically every door in the hotel is damaged in some way, with big gaps at the top or bottom and in room 714 straight through the centre(Hotels DIY for this is tissue paper?????). Our hot water in our shower was very luke warm but having spoke to other people we were lucky as most other showers were the same or worse. Our bath leaked and our pool view was of the neighbouring hotels pool. Even worse than this was the fact that packs of dogs were allowed to roam freely around the hotel and barked loudly in the night outside our door. I complained to staff who just gave me a confused shrug of the shoulders. I would've spoke to the rep but she only appeared once at the resort (obviously this was only to try to sell overpriced excursions). Cannot overstate how unhappy I was with the hotel. I have since found out that the hotel has been in decline for the past 2 years due to family in-fighting, and as a result Thomas Cook are removing it from next years brochure.

" Just got back after a week at hotel... "
Submitted By: Miss T CuttsThe pool was really big a very clean there is a seperate part for children which made it even better. The beach is about 20 meters from the hotel itself and the bar and resturant staff of hotel baba are more than happy to bring your food and drinks to you on the FREE sun loungers for NO extra cost which is brilliant if your trying to get a good tan. Hotel baba itself is right in the centre of the town so you are very close to clubs shops and resturants but when you close the doors thankfully you cant hear very much of the music. There is a great little shop just outside the hotel and the guy in there is really friendly. We had food from a diffrent resturant everynight and they were all very nice especially CHINA TOWN YUMMY!, For a big meal with a bottle of wine for 2 people the average cost was about 50 lira which is 25 pound to us so cant complain. The only downside is that the rooms have no fridge and the showers are more dated than the rooms but they work fine. I cant complain about anything from hotel baba i had a fab time and will def go back.
P.s make sure if your shopping you barter all the time and you have to see the castle in bodrum its 5 lira each and it a good 2/3 hours to walk around, The boat trip is also a must have amazing and as always if you go to turkey you have to have a turkish bath it makes your tan so much more intense and its lovely!

" This place is a dreadful, rooms are... "
Submitted By: Mrs L Smithyou get shortchanged and ripped off at the pool bar by the two most ignorant staff as they give the wrong change and overcharge you!
millions of stairs everywhere to the pool from reception and to the rooms from reception.
breakfast was stale and you have to eat with the cats and stray dogs around you - whom fight for food - another girl was bitten by these dogs that the staff simply let in.
all in all I think its an utter hole, kids from hell in the pool totally unsupervised by their parents are they sod off to the bar or bog off down the beach and leave their foul mouthed brats to run riot and for the other guests to try to deal with.
Great plae if your a chav on the pull or piss 24/7 - certainly not for the regular normal family at all.
