" Absolutely Loved It! "

Me and my boyfriend visited Baba Hotel last year and I loved the location, it was so close to the bar street yet when you wanted to go to sleep you couldn't hear any noise!! I do have to moan about a few things though, when I first arrived in our room the bathroom door handle fell off! And the wardrobe looked as though if was about to fall on top of you! Also the Breakfast there didn't have much selection. But that's all I have to say and considering those bad points I would visit here again because it didn't ruin our holiday at all we had a great time! As soon as we stepped out of our room the swimming pool was right there and the people there were so friendly and funny. They really made you feel welcome. Everything you needed was right there for you and the shops were just outside the hotel. Only we made a mistake by only going Bed & Breakfast as we ran out of money towards the end of the holiday! We am going back to Gumbet this year again but were going to the Royal Asarlik Hotel all inclusive this time!!
But overall I enjoyed my stay here and would deffinately visit the Baba Hotel again!

Advice: Go all inclusive to the hotels as food and drink is quite expensive!

Activities: Loved the Red Dragon chinese restaurant, was gorgeous food, out of this world!!

" What a Shame!! "

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and loved it! We went back as a family in Oct and were soo shocked! The place has gone so far down hill there is no way back! Get a bulldozer or sell it to the hotel next door - The place was horrible. Small, tired and dirty rooms. Ours had a great view of a brick wall and the staff smoking area. The pool was green and the resturants ran out of food! They were taking things like fridges etc out of the hotel every day, as if they were stutting it down. We suffered 5 days at this hell hole before moving to the WONDERFUL Parkim Ayaz which is in a differant league all together and would tell everyone to stay there in the future!

Advice: Its fantastic if on a girlie/lads holiday or as a family - something for everyone!

Activities: Bar street!! Yeh Baby!!!

" Shocking - we lasted a night "

Good bit first - The Baba itself has a fantastic location, right by bar Street & leads right on to the beach. It is a shame that it has deteriorated to this state, as we can see from older reviews that, once upon a time, it was one of the best in Gumbet - It either needs a very large cash injection to put it right again, or maybe a bulldozer could be more effective.
My friend and I booked this hotel in September, as it was recommened by the tour operator. After booking however we checked it out on the review sites. Many reviews we read were worrying, describing the hotel as dirty, badly managed and under government control after going into receivership, following a family dispute over ownership, following the death of the owner some years ago – confirmed by Baba’s own website. One went so far as to say that they would not recommend this hotel to a stray dog! We tried to get a transfer right up til the day of departure, but were told there had been no complaints & we could not be moved.
On arrival at the Baba at approximately 2 a.m, we were thankful that we had prior warning as to what we could expect. We would not have minded if the room had just been basic, old, tired and small as long as it was clean. The room was really humid after being closed up all day, making the bed linen damp. The floors were dirty throughout; we could see our foot prints in the dirt on the bathroom tiles. The bathroom was disgusting with dirt and grime all over the tiling, the shower fixture was coming away from the wall, the leaking sink tap was covered in green/blue lime scale, the toilet was dirty. The water jet at the back of the toilet had rusted and snapped, leaving a dangerous jagged edge. The door handle was so loose it practically came off in my hand! On top of that, there was blood up the shower curtain & outside the front door, as well as mould on the curtains in the room.
We called the emergency line & managed to speak to a resort rep, we were given another room which was marginally better. The hotel staff were so rude to us because we had dared to complain, dumping our cases at the bottom of the stairs after watching us struggle all the way up and more than half way back down with them - for someone with a bad back, this wasn't the best. After a relatively sleepless night on damp beds with just a sheet each to keep warm, we went down to 'breakfast'. Breakfast consisted of gone off milk for your coffee, dry scrambled eggs and sausages, burnt baked beans and dry bread.
The swimming pool was definitely green. You could see the green scum round the edge of the pool floor & in the middle of the kiddie pool, you could see white stuff floating up from the floor - the hotels excuse for this was that the kids pool was not in use, which was odd as there were definitely children on site!
The hotel Rep, Leanne was fantastic, and after showing her all the pictures we'd taken, she spoke to the manager. We were told that the hotel is in receivership after a family dispute, and is currently in the 'care' of a court appointed manager. The manager was vile to the rep, he was right in her face, shouting at her in Turkish in front of us, telling her that the hotel was not 5* so what did we expect, also that we were lying, that we had forged the pictures of the blood etc!
We were then moved 2 hotels down to the Parkim Ayaz - also a 3* hotel - what a total difference - spotlessly clean, the staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We couldn't have asked for more from this hotel - it saved the holiday for us. The staff at this hotel smiled knowingly when they heard where we had been and reception said that they had a lot of guests moving from The Baba.
The fact that this hotel was recommended to us as 3* accommodation, is concerning, as when we got there we were told that it was actually 2*.
We are very upset that after what we thought was going to be a relaxing holiday, we were put in a stressful situation, and in dealing with it, lost a day of our week’s holiday. If it had not been for the efforts of the hotel rep we would have been on the first available flight back to the UK - We cannot thank her enough for all her help.

" Hotel was ok! Brilliant holiday "

6 of us have jus returned back from the baba hotel,we booked the holiday as a last minute thing for a break away, wen arriving at the hotel it was late at night and everything was ok, not very organsied when taking you to your rooms however it was fine in the end, the rooms are small, very basic, not even a fridge to keep your drinks warm wich would be terrible if you went there when in the summer, the beds were uncomfy however you do get used to it, the bathrooms are veryyy dated!we were dissapointed with the balcony for our room, as you could barely stand on it, however we had a excellent view of the pool, one couple who was with us had to change rooms as it was soo basic, didnt have a double bed and no balcony, however they changed rooms the same day and there room was ok. breakfast was awfull at the hotel, the same everyday, and hardly anything to choose from, also some days the beans were freezing cold and we had to complain twise. the location of the hotel was excellent, directly in the centre, and too the back off the hotel you are on the beach, which was lovely in the summer time when we came to bodrum earlier in the year, however now it is cooler there were lots of stray dogs hanging around the beach which wasnt very nice. the staff at the hotel were ok, didnt really see much off them. we were b&b so therefore ate out for dinner and tea, there are many restraunts to choose from in bodrum, for dinner you can go anywere for english breakfast if thats what you fancy, at night there is many chineese, italian, indian, mexican, turkish, and english restraunts, you have to visit china town!! the food is gorgeous!! we went there 3 times in the week we stayed here, and we also went to the red dragon 2wise which is owned by the same owner as china town, this was also excellent food!! staff at both of these were excellent, especially china town, they were soo friendly and made you feel welcome. we went on a boat trip which is also a brilliant day owt!! and a chance to top up your tan!! overall we had an excellent time, very relaxing and enjoyable holiday, the hotel definetly needs updating, however it was worth the price we payed!! wud deinietly recomened it to others!! brilliant :):)

" Dingy outdated and overrated "

Lets start with the positives first. Gumbet is an awesome place to visit, everything for everyone here. Shops, nightlife, watersport, excellent restuarants, nice beaches etc. Really enjoyed the local area, and the only places I'd say to avoid are this hotel and the Indian restuarant(can't remember its name but its the only one in town, Bombay something, and is next to the Karaoke bar). The restuarant first was the most expensive in Gumbet, but the food was the poorest tasting like it just came out of the packet at asda. Given that it cost more here than it would've in England, about £100 total between 4 people, I would've expected so much more. To top this of the manager is very rude and does not know how to even cook indian food so please avoid.
The Hotel itself is very dated, with lime green decor throughout and dirty dingy hallways which you'd not even expect from a hostel let alone a hotel rated 3*+. Practically every door in the hotel is damaged in some way, with big gaps at the top or bottom and in room 714 straight through the centre(Hotels DIY for this is tissue paper?????). Our hot water in our shower was very luke warm but having spoke to other people we were lucky as most other showers were the same or worse. Our bath leaked and our pool view was of the neighbouring hotels pool. Even worse than this was the fact that packs of dogs were allowed to roam freely around the hotel and barked loudly in the night outside our door. I complained to staff who just gave me a confused shrug of the shoulders. I would've spoke to the rep but she only appeared once at the resort (obviously this was only to try to sell overpriced excursions). Cannot overstate how unhappy I was with the hotel. I have since found out that the hotel has been in decline for the past 2 years due to family in-fighting, and as a result Thomas Cook are removing it from next years brochure.

" My husband and I stayed at this hotel... "

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 4yrs ago, and had a lovely time. As the weather has been so bad in the uk we booked a last minute deal and 2 friends decided to come with us. We had told our friends what a great place it was as you had the luxury of the hussel and bussel of bar street or the tranquility of the promenade (it was Aug last time we went there). How very dissappointing to find the hotels not wetting down the beach at night and putting tables and chairs with the lanterns along for the romantic meals we had enjoyed on our previous visit. There are too many bars and cafes?restaurants opening to allow them all to survive as we saw a lot oc the older ones closed. Unfortunately our friends didnt like bar street but we did. Hotel baba is in a superb location and from the outside around the pool area looks wonderful but the interior! Oh dear it needs an awful lot of TLC If the owners spent some money replacing all the old tatty furnishings, sun beds/mattresses carpets on the corridors leaky skylites etc they could ime sure upgrade this hotel andenable them to charge more. So come on owners waken up and smell the coffee! Also in the reception area there is a sign telling guests that smoking is not permitted inside the building, so why supply ashtrays? and why allow the staff to smoke inside including the cleaners in the corridors. If this hotel were to upgrade then we would definately go back because of its location. To the staff of the restaurants in the hotels and along bar street you do an excellent job of making people feel welcome. Some of the breakfast offers are a bit of a con one in particular to the right of the baba out front offered english breakfast for £1.50 (great you might think) only to be charged 6lira for diluted fresh orange from the stall across the road who sells pure orange juice for 3 lira also the coffee was 4lira and was absulutely abominable even the waiter said it was "shitty coffee" Come on you lot out there on bars street you wouldnt drink "shitty coffee" so why do you think we should?. The boat trip booked with sinbad was good but no commentry and didnt sail till 11am and was back by 4.30. Unlike when roy ran the trip we were away by 9.30 and not back until 5.30 and he came with us unlike sinbad he is only a tout. Overall we had a relaxing break

" This hotel was a massive let down,... "

This hotel was a massive let down, although me and my husband paid extra to recieve a pool view this was not accomodated and we were given a room with a view of a brick roof from the rooms below (we met several couples that left this hotel due to problems with their rooms) I'm sorry but i do not understand who writes the positive reviews for this hotel. This is not a 3star hotel, it's barely a 1star! The rooms are tiny...tip if one person in the room is using the mirror then the other person in the room will have to climb over the bed to get past them! The first choice rep explained when we complained that the holiday guide did state the hotel was basic (we found no guide saying this hotel was basic and basic does not mean smelly room and leaking bath) I agree the hotel is cheap but Turkey this year has become so over priced! We paid 5 lira, £2.50 for a small glass of coke and that was cheap compared to other places. Take plenty of money or go else where this is NOT a cheap holiday i'm affraid! If you don't want to be hassled every single night by RUDE reps trying to get you into their restaurants then do not walk along the road, stick to the beach!! The rooms were cleaned ever day which was excellent but there wasn't a single person working at the hotel that spoke good English, just be aware of this! The beach here is beautiful and the sea is calm so excellent for families like ourselves! I wish i had only booked one week as two was far to much at this hotel. hope your experience is better than ours!!

" We only managed one night here before... "

We only managed one night here before being moved to Bitez. This hotel is in receivership and appears to be running a scam; putting you in a really bad room so you ask to move and they charge you £30. We were in the 'best room', according to Thomas Cook and it was disgusting. I don't think Thomas Cook are renewing their contract with them, but are still insisting it's a good hotel. The reps and guests say otherwise. Everyone we met in our one day there were complaining and miserable. Our sheets on our bed were damp and the room was filthy and so depressing. I spent the evening crying. Please take our advice and don't stay there.

" Just got back after a week at hotel... "

Just got back after a week at hotel baba, Ok so the rooms were a little dated but they were very clean and the bedding and towels were changed everyday. The cleaners were very friendly and very trustworthy we left phones and expensive items in the room none of which were even touched. If you have a bit of a late night the cleaners were always happy to come back to clean ur room a little later if you needed more sleep.
The pool was really big a very clean there is a seperate part for children which made it even better. The beach is about 20 meters from the hotel itself and the bar and resturant staff of hotel baba are more than happy to bring your food and drinks to you on the FREE sun loungers for NO extra cost which is brilliant if your trying to get a good tan. Hotel baba itself is right in the centre of the town so you are very close to clubs shops and resturants but when you close the doors thankfully you cant hear very much of the music. There is a great little shop just outside the hotel and the guy in there is really friendly. We had food from a diffrent resturant everynight and they were all very nice especially CHINA TOWN YUMMY!, For a big meal with a bottle of wine for 2 people the average cost was about 50 lira which is 25 pound to us so cant complain. The only downside is that the rooms have no fridge and the showers are more dated than the rooms but they work fine. I cant complain about anything from hotel baba i had a fab time and will def go back.

P.s make sure if your shopping you barter all the time and you have to see the castle in bodrum its 5 lira each and it a good 2/3 hours to walk around, The boat trip is also a must have amazing and as always if you go to turkey you have to have a turkish bath it makes your tan so much more intense and its lovely!

" This place is a dreadful, rooms are... "

This place is a dreadful, rooms are tiny, I can do basic but I expected a little more room than a coffin! the pool is filthy, broken glass everywhere, kids and adults cutting their feet - one girl spent the night in hospital on a drip for 12 hours due to the infetion from the cut on her foot - that she got at the poolside!

you get shortchanged and ripped off at the pool bar by the two most ignorant staff as they give the wrong change and overcharge you!

millions of stairs everywhere to the pool from reception and to the rooms from reception.

breakfast was stale and you have to eat with the cats and stray dogs around you - whom fight for food - another girl was bitten by these dogs that the staff simply let in.

all in all I think its an utter hole, kids from hell in the pool totally unsupervised by their parents are they sod off to the bar or bog off down the beach and leave their foul mouthed brats to run riot and for the other guests to try to deal with.

Great plae if your a chav on the pull or piss 24/7 - certainly not for the regular normal family at all.
