Came back from staying at the Hotel...
10 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss M Anastasio

Came back from staying at the Hotel Baba on Tuesday and I am depressed to be back home. Everything was great. The hotel was very nice although when we were taken to our room when we first arrived we saw that we had no balcony and no view of the pool or beach but we only booked a standard room anyway and that is what we got.
After a day or two you learn to get used to it, my last grumble is that there was no fridge or anything to keep your water cold so it was necessary for us to keep buying some as you don't want to be drinking hot water in that heat.
These are minor grumbles anyway the hotel and everything else cannot be faulted. As from other people's reviews I also went on a boat trip which was very good we stopped at five different places one being black island (I think) where you can pay 3 Lira for a mud bath, we also had other stops where you could do some snorkelling or jump off the boat or just lay there topping up your tan.
You also stop for about 45 minutes while they prepare lunch for you which was pasta, chicken, cold potato and other things, oh and watermelon. You then go to camel beach for an hour where you can pay to ride a camel. I did this as I have always wanted to ride a camel, as someone else commented; it was short but worth the money. This trip was from 10:30-17:30.
I particularly loved the staff at this hotel they are all so friendly, especially one who works in the disco at night called Ahmet. All the staff are always around while u laze around on the beach asking if you want anything to drink or eat. I don’t have anything negative to say about my holiday except that it wasn't long enough.
There are plenty of nightclubs/bars and restaurants to go to and plenty of shops, although the bag shops in particular are quite similar and you are always stopped and dropped a line to try get you to eat/drink in their bar/restaurant. Does become quite funny.
I have made some friends from my week stay out there and will keep in contact with three of them, everyone is just so nice. I am experiencing post holiday blues!

I had a marvellous week at the Baba!...

Jul 2007, Miss CN Newby

I had a marvellous week at the Baba! Bar street is just outside the Hotel and that's where the clubs, karaoke etc are. I loved Xbar and Shakers Bar, mad!
The room at first was disappointing but after all its only for SLEEPING in! The beach is just outside the hotel along with bars and restaurants which was very convenient. The pool is very clean. The pool bar was my favourite place to be! The staff were very friendly and spoke fantastic English.
I really enjoyed this holiday, that's why i'm going for 2 weeks next year, one week wasn't enough GO FOR 2!
JAMAL AND VEYSI, (staff at pool bar) SEE U NEXT YEAR!

Overall the Baba was a nice hotel....

Jul 2007, Mrs L V Harrison

Overall the Baba was a nice hotel. However. whilst booking the holiday we were promised a balcony and sea view, we received neither. The rooms were EXTREMELY basic but did not really concern myself and partner due to the little time we spent in there.
The rooms were kept really clean throughout our stay due to being cleaned everyday and supplied with fresh towels and sheets (which were rather tough on sunburnt skin!). The air-con is a must and only costs £3 per so it is well worth it.
Breakfast was also basic but sufficient. Evening meals were also basic and at times repetitive. Nevertheless, the money saved on accommodation and food was obviously lavished on the exterior surrounding the pool, which was absolutely breath-taking. It was a large pool surrounded by palm trees and a bar. Even though the hotel consists of 5 bars there is only one that you notice as a guest at the hotel, which is the pool bar. The bar staff are friendly but at times annoying when they are consistently 'full on'.
Overall I believe I would recommend and consider going back to The Baba. It is family orientated and ok for couples as well.

Whilst trying to book a different...

Jul 2007, Mr I Cole

Whilst trying to book a different Hotel within the same resort. The Hotel Baba was recommended as 'a place where people return time and time again'. The operator was not wrong! As we met and talked to couples of all ages that were on their 3rd, 4th time of staying.
As per the general description for the Baba. The Hotel is situated within easy reach of beach, bars and restaurants. Rooms are basic but not crappy, and have a fantastic air con system that will cost you an additional £3 per day. Safety deposit box also £3 per day.
I found the comments left by previous visitors of both Hotel and this site invaluable, as excursions were booked through individuals and shops at great savings.
Gulet cruise to five bays, including a delicious lunch. £10 (25 lira) - See Roy at the rear of the Hotel (Beach-side). £25 with tour operator.
2 day excursion to Ephesus and Pamukkale with overnight stay in Hotel and a variety of meals thrown in with the price. £30 (94 lira) with Queen Travel. £61 through tour operator. A word of warning though. The tour guide Farti has a degree in Turkish history, and boy does he know his stuff! But, still he's a cracking bloke.
Overall. Hotel, Resort and people were great, and I hope to see and do it all again within the next 2 years.

I have been to hotel baba twice now...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss H Bould

I have been to hotel baba twice now and I love it! Once back in August 2001 with my mate and last year with my boyfriend for 2 weeks when the world cup was on in June/July 2006, was wicked atmosphere and had all the games on at their bars!!
It's situated right on the beach front, which is great and the pool is spotless and the staff are always willing to help!! The staff at reception weren’t very helpful, but everyone else is great, especially the bar staff!
I went on two trips, the boat trip is well worth booking, great food on board and so cheap, something like £10 for a day out of food, drink and 5 stops, a great way to have a day away from the pool and chill out.
We stayed Bed and Breakfast, the breakfast was good but repetitive, on the evening we often went to Aloha restaurant on the left hand side up the hill....the prices are amazing and the food is great!! We loved it there!!
We had a room with air con (which is a must) and a French balcony, which was good nice!! I would defiantly consider going back for a third time!!

We have just returned from 2 weeks...

Jun 2007, Ms S Sandra And Nigel Milton Keynes

We have just returned from 2 weeks staying in the Baba hotel. I looked at all the previous reviews before we went and felt we had made a good choice.
Most mentioned the size of the rooms, although I have to agree the rooms are now a little dated and on the small size you can not fault the cleaners, the bedding and towels were changed every day and on a couple of occasions we returned to our room to find a lovely display of flowers on the bed.
The pool is excellent and the staff will wait on you hand and foot. The breakfast is a little boring after the first couple of days but there are plenty of cheap places to have breakfast.
We found the Tent restaurant and cafe to be excellent value for money. They can be found by turning left at reception and following the road down passed the taxi rank.
Also Caspers which is directly opposite the reception (fantastic pizzas).
We are returning to Gumbet again in September as we enjoyed it so much.
If you have booked the Baba you will not be disappointed.

Apr 2007, Coleman41

This was our fifth visit to the Hotel Baba - we had already been for 2 weeks in June 2006 when the World Cup was on and it was absolutely amazing.
The staff are second to none - they will do absolutely anything for you and nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms are basic but very clean and secure. The hotel facilities are superb too. The breakfast is more or less the same everyday but still very good.
The boat trip is a must - BBQ lunch and 5 island stops - perfect for topping up your tans whilst enjoying the boat trip.
We can't fault the hotel on anything and looking forward to going again in August 2007 this year to see all the staff, Kamel, Bebeto to name but a few.
They even wait on you hand and foot whilst sunbathing on the beach!!

Always have great time staying at the Baba. Stayed three times, going back for a forth this year.
Great location right on the beach, nothing too much trouble for the staff who will bring you all you want to eat or drink without leaving your sun lounger.
Boat trips from the Baba can be very busy, worth checking out some other ones. Turkish bath is really good, cheap well worth a try.
Breakfast (when we actually have it) is very basic, bread is delicious. Rooms could do with a fridge to keep your water or effes cold.
Staff are very friendly and attentive; cleaners are excellent. The beach bar is a great place to finish your night out got to go and give it a bit of Karaoke (fuelled by Raki).
Have met some great friends who like us are going back again.

Feb 2007, Mrs Nicola Bicknell

We have been to hotel Baba in July 2005 and July 2006 it is excellent, so good in fact we are going on the 11/06/2007 for 2 weeks.

We love the location and Roys boat trips are a must.
Yes the rooms are basic but they are cleaned everyday and if you’re still getting ready the cleaners will come back later.
We love Baba and will continue going year after year, as there is so much to do.

Oct 2006, aimee.jeans

I found that the hotel was in a brilliant position next to the sea and around all restaurants bars etc. The rooms were basic but nice.
I went around the end of the season but I still thought that there was plenty to do and see all the shops and tours were open. (Apart from the water park). The food was nice but rather repetitive.
Overall I found the hotel and facilities to be brilliant and I would highly recommend this to other people in the future.

We have been to Gumbet in August 2005...

Sep 2006, Mr Ki Cully

We have been to Gumbet in August 2005 and 06, the accommodation is nice the only downfall is the size. I think the situation of the hotel is great, the hotel is placed right next to the beach and is also in the centre of the outstanding nightlife (The X bar is great quoted by Kristy). The bar staff are brilliant and very helpful. I would certainly go there next year and recommend this hotel to any newcomers to turkey. Any one going to hotel baba next year bring some blackcurrant juice (cordial) for 'Shorty' the barman. Cheers!!!! Go there now, its well worth it.

We have been on holiday to Gumbet for...
7 / 10
Sep 2006, M Coburn

We have been on holiday to Gumbet for the last four years, and stayed the last three at the Baba. Briliant location between the hustle & bustle of the resort centre and the relaxed pace of the beach front.
The Turkish bath at the Baba is fantastic and excellent value for money as is the "Baba boat trip" booked with Roy. The rooms are very basic and are now looking tired and in need of some renovation. Our room this year was poor! And I have made complaints direct to the hotel via a letter and to Direct Holidays via their web site - both with no response!
The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful bar one of the staff at the pool bar who got very snotty when we declined to go to the pool party -(the party is excellent, but we did not want to go). If you do book to stay at the Baba I advise you to book either a balcony or a terrace as the other rooms do not have either and have no view!
The breakfast at the Baba is basic and could be more varied as it has not changed in the last three years apart from its location from the roof terrace to the dining room on the ground floor. A good all round hotel, but lets its self down with the overall decoration and up keep of its rooms. Would stay again.
