Pleasantly surprised after previous reviews
We have just returned from a week at the Hotel Regina, Sorrento. We arrived in Sorrento after midnight, after long flight delays and had to leave the bus and walk along a narrow, twisty, car width road to reach the hotel entrance. The entrance to the hotel was pleasant and, in our rooms, we were welcomed by a cold meat and cheese platter as we had missed dinner. The rooms were basic but very clean. We had asked for a balcony and sea view and, in the dark, we were disappointed to be looking at, what we thought, was a concrete structure... more
Stay somewhere else if you can
We stayed here 4 days and while the view in the mornings from the balcony restaurant onto Mt. Vesuvius was wonderful, that's it. Although centrally located, it is on an exceptionally narrow and noisy sidestreet. Our taxi driver as well as the chauffer we retained refused to drive down the narrow street to get there. How one car gets thru is beyond me. Each time we had to walk to or from the hotel we held our breath. Cars and motor scooters always had to honk before rounding the turn to make sure it was clear. As far as... more
Hotel Regina - Horrible food, even worse service
The Hotel Regina is a clean, value-priced hotel facing the sea. It is ideally located about a 5-minute walk from the center of town. Some of the very simply rooms are equipped with balconies offering lovely sea views. The bathrooms, while clean, are tiny, and the shower stalls so cramped that anyone who is not petite-sized would find it hard to maneouvre within. The restaurant upstairs boasts stunning, panoramic views of the sea. Unfortunately, that's the only positive aspect to dining here. The dinners, priced at 25 euros per person... more
Happy holiday
The Regina Sorrento offers all one could expect from a three-star hotel: friendly and efficient service, roomy accommodation, varied and imaginative cuisine, a restful lemon garden, and a stunning view of Vesuvius from the rooftop restaurant. The hotel is in a quiet situation within easy walking distance of the town centre. We do not understand an earlier coment about the colour of the rooms.
Great location, hotel needs some investments
The location is perfect, direct above the coast and near to center. Staff is friendly, breakfast room on top of the hotel also offers best view, breakfast itself is o.k for italy, but basic for more northern standards. If you have a reservation for a room towards the waterfront, the view from the room or the small balcony is really fantastic. And this is what you have to pay for. The rooms are very clean, spacy enough, but very basic. Especially the bathroom was very old fashioned only with a bath, no showers. Or if you... more
vesuvius view
My husband and I stayed at the Regina in late March,2005. We were taken to the hotel by Tony, who gave a running description of Sorrento, including suggestions for dinner. It was great. Take a taxi to the hotel because until you have walked it once, the hotel would be difficult to find. The Regina is small and within easy walking distance to everything. Our room was an end room with a balcony facing the water and Vesuvius and a balcony facing a lovely garden. It was simply decorated but very nice and the bathroom was modern. As great as... more
Charming Hotel in a fantastic position !
I visited Sorrento for the first time in June 2004 ....in the very first few hours of arriving in Sorrento I knew that this was a very special place. Within hours I was totally smitten ! I stayed at the Hotel Regina, a lovely 36 bedroom hotel. The position of this hotel is perfection itself, right on the seafront. Just a 3 minute walk to the cafes, shops and bars, the same distance away from the lovely Marina Grande and only a few more minutes to the Piazza Tasso, where you can get a bus to anywhere ! The rooms at... more
barely a three star
We got given this hotel by an agent overseas. Whilst it was clean and comfortable with a reasonably central location, the actual furnishings and decor were two star. The staff were quite polite but not that friendly. The breakfast was bland and basic. we didn't sample the evning meal as the Piazza Tasso is only 10 mins walk away. Some of the rooms have great views across the bay of Naples but most are facing other hotels and buildings. Ok for a short stay but wouldn't wantthis to be somewhere special for the weekend .
A decent choice, the service could be better
I recently stayed at the Regina hotel in September 2004. The hotel does have a nice location, it is close to town, and Marina Grande which is a great area. I did have a problem with being charged 14.00 Euros per day for air conditioning though. I was not informed this at the time of booking, although it was a land package so I did not book direct with hotel. The other problem is that there was no shower curtain with tub, and the shower head was attached about 3 1/2 feet up so you had to sit when taking a shower. It was difficult to not get... more
Lovely place to stay!
I stayed at the Regina several years back, after finding a more central hotel on Piazza Tasso to be unbearably noisy with all the motorbikes constantly zipping by. Switching over was not appreciated by the original hotel, but the manager (Fatima) at the Regina was very gracious and explained that two meals were included in the room's price, although a single room was small and simple (the bathroom was really tiny!). But, I really appreciated her helpfulness and I had a wonderful stay. It is a pleasant 5-minute walk to the town, passing the... more
