Initially we were not impressed as we had booked a 3* accommodation on arrival and told we were going into a hotel and arrived at the Fenix.
The Reps were initially non helpful and do not fall for calling the Spanish telephone number because the Reps office is around the corner from the Fenix opposite Theo's inside the courtyard.
We eventually got Lynne who was more helpful than the rest. We settled into the Fenix and the apartments are clean and spacious - there is a small kitchen and fridge but sleeping for four.
I suggest renting a fan from the manager as the rooms get very hot and unless you are on the right side of the building you get no air whatsoever. The bathrooms are basic but fine and if you want a sun bed get there early - there are only about 14 and six sunshades although the pool is small but clean - a good sun trap if you are dedicated.
The manager is helpful but only there in the morning. My advice - head for the beach - go left at the gorilla which is a big fun park for young kids open at night and there is a guy called Jesus who rents beds at 3 euro's each and gives you a spot at the front.
Eat at Beckhams - good food and reasonable, or if you want a full English - bar on the beach, Chinese is good as well Almeria comes alive at night. We would go definitely go back.

Well, when we arrived at Fenix apartments we were greeted by a young lad, who was pleasant enough to carry our suitcases up the stairs. Checking in was fine, although after that we never saw anybody on reception again, and was difficult if we had a problem.
The rooms seemed clean enough, however the view from our balcony was a bit disappointing as we over looked cranes and work machines, which were very noisy if you were trying to have a little sunbathe! The bar, 'Theo’s' which was literally next door was fantastic I must say! The entertainment was great with all the karaoke and drama queen nights. Also across the road was a crazy golf centre with a gym and many more sport facilities.
Later on in the week there was a DISGUSTING stench of sewage and urine. In fact it was so bad my husband had to place a plastic bag over the smell! When we tried to call someone from reception there was no one there. However the bathroom had good facilities e.g. hot water, big bath and shower. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

I don’t know where to begin with this apartment, It was very, very, very cold, we had no heating all week, we told our holiday rep about this and she did nothing at all she just shrugged her shoulders, we did not get offered any heating or extra blankets, the water was always cold.
The reception is closed most of the day it is not always open, i think it was closed from 11.00am to the next morning, so we had no one to complain to apart from our rep who did not want to know. We left our keys in reception one day and we had to wait 3 hours for someone to let us in as no one was in reception and once again our rep was not contactable.
I know everyone was complaining about how cold it was and I know one couple went and bought and electric heater out of there own money, This hotel was not acceptable and disgusting I would never go back to Almeria ever again, it has put me off the hotel should be a 2 star only.

The Fenix is privately owned, and the owner speaks good English. There are stairs and lifts to all floors.
The Fenix is close enough to the town centre and sea but also just down a side road, away from the main street, so no noise heard from those returning from the bars and restaurants. The bar in the Fenix shuts at 6pm, but when it's open, it is cheap. The room was just what I needed, as a single traveller. Sink, fridge, kettle, wardrobe, bathroom, balcony - the usual. The room was spotless when I arrived, but they are not cleaned until you leave. Clean linen on request, but they don't mind you asking.
No noise heard from adjacent rooms, but noisy footsteps from corridor and rooms above. Many people commented on that.
Best bar in the area is almost next door - check out Theo's. Lot's of ex-pats in here, and they are all really friendly.
On arrival at Roquetas, I was initially unimpressed. Lots of tacky souvenir shops and cloned restaurants. I expected to see 'kiss me quick' hats for sale. However, after a day or two, I warmed to the place. It was clean, hardly any Brits (always a bonus) lots of Spanish, as Roquetas is where they holiday, so a few basic phrases in the local lingo would help, and the food is fantastic. Lots of it and cheap!
You have to look around a little, but you can easily spot the good restaurants. Roma, for example (opposite the gorilla): Two good sized (starter size, I suppose) tapas and two good glasses of wine for £5.45. I don't know if my Spanish was an advantage here, but they let me eat at the very small bar - after all it is a restaurant. Restaurante Amsterdam - don't be fooled by the big sign saying 'Pizzaria' - check out the specials, they do a fantastic, huge steak in Roquefort sauce. Lots more good food available, and an incredibly long promenade along the seafront to walk all that food off.
The seafront at Roquetas is about 4 miles long, and all (course) sandy beach. You can walk further, as I think the entire seafront stretches for 8 miles along this stretch of coast.
I know I'll be going back to Roquetas, and will probably try for the Fenix despite the noise, purely because of it's handy location. (and it's close to Theo's, so not far to stumble back at two in the morning) :o)

We visited the Fenix Apartments on an allocated on arrival basis at the end of April for one week self catering.
The hotel is situated about 200 yards from the beach which was ok for us.
The rooms are basic having two single beds, pullout sofa bed if needed shower and bath, balcony, but ours only looked over the roads and private houses, and a small television.
There was a small pool on the first floor but the problem with this is the sun does not get round to the pool until early afternoon, and those with small children.
There is only a very small area of the pool for them so at busy periods of the summer it would get very crowded. There was not a pool bar but this could open later in the year.
There was a small place to eat but this was not open for very long mainly just for breakfast.
We never had a visit from a maid so the beds never got changed and no change of towels. We had used all the toilet rolls half way through the week and when my daughter went and asked the person who was on the desk (which was a rare site) she was told we had to buy our own.
I never got to see the rep about this, probably a good job I didn't.
You can get a decent breakfast from the Red Lion next door, but mostly we went to the beach turned right and walked for about half a mile where you come to some more bars and eating places.
We went to some of these but we did like the Highlander, the name of the owners are Tommy and Peggy, we went to this place a lot last year but last year we stopped at the Golf Resort which is a very nice block surrounded by a Golf Course.
I would visit Almeria again and Roquetas, but if I do a holiday allocated on arrival again to there, I am not bothered about going to the Fenix, if I can help it.
