" GREAT HOLIDAY "
Submitted By: mattncathThe hotel was spotless and would put some english hospitals to shame and the pool was fantastic perfect for everybody any age our son learnt to swim there and our daughter was rarely on dry land, there was 14 of us in our family group and daily we had sunbeds together and next to the pool.
The hotel is remote but there is a regular bus service which our rep was clued up on and informed us of all services we would need to visit different places on the island.
The food was ideal there was something for everyone including the six children there is none of the horror story meals I read about before we went, breakfast was fry-up or toast with a variety of spreads, fruit, cereal . Lunch was to much variety to list really but always something different as was dinner, plus a great selection of ice cream.
For all inclusive drinks you had to pay 1 euro for your glass which you got back when you returned it, we all thought this was a great idea as the pool area was always tidy as people never left empty glasses laying around.
Overall it was a great holiday and we didn't want to come home.
Advice: very remote, take advantage of the bus service as it was very cheap
Activities: Bus to Mahon and glass bottomed boat tour, Cala n porter was a great day out (beautiful beach)
" Avoid at all costs "
Submitted By: MLOLI can only say avoid this hotel it is more 1 star than the 3 star plus that Thompson sell it as.
VERY VERY dirty & in major need of refurbishment.
Our room, Broken bed & bed heads, fixtures missing in bathroom, broken chairs, very dirty (long standing dirt & grime everywhere) The local cat was resident in bush on our patio.
General Bar filthy, laminate peeling off its that old & dirty, cigarette ends on floor behind bar 3 days, sticky stains on floor 2 days (only moved when I asked bar to clean it).
Pool, filters filthy, plants & anything pools side very dirty. No attendant or staff so children diving off walls. Pool side bar never open as no staff to staff it, Area never cleaned only moved beds.
All external furniture was the cheapest plastic type which I think used to be white the area was never cleaned full of long standing engrained dirt.
Food, sprouts for three services on the trot including breakfast. Two types of exactly the same margarine in pots or foil no butter (obviously trying to con you) says it all to me very poor.
You pay a Euro for a plastic cup for your drinks, don't be fooled this is not to encourage you to take your glass back, it’s so they can employ less staff. Result no one to clear or clean tables everywhere filthy.
We were there for four days before we moved & never once saw any type of cleaning product being used, the rubbish pool side was there for all four days.
We paid over a £1000 to move to the only available hotel (a supposedly lesser quality 3 Star property) for the last 10 days.....WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Although Thompson will not admit to their miss selling the Mar de Menorca and its poor standards of cleanliness & hygiene & refuse any kind of compensation the move and the extra £1000 was money very well spent.
For those who have given this hotel ok reviews I can only think that they were to drunk to see or dread to think were they normally holiday or live.
My 9 year old daughter now checks every tap she uses & puts paper on every toilet seat such are the long term impressions this hotel has left on her young mind.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Submitted By: Mr S MARSDENMr Marsden age 40 - location "quiet", plenty of facilities, I enjoyed the food. I had a good variation of meals, including fish, veal, pasta, salad they even had duck and rabbit. The entertainment was how can i put it, was a little dull, but Joe( one of the entertainment crew) worked extremely hard. Would i go back??? perhaps not, but i did really enjoy it as it was a relaxing holiday. ps. a CAR is a MUST.
Mrs Marsden age 37 (21!!!) - Upon arrival at reception my heart sank! The decor of reception was old and tatty which made me think, if they intended this to be your first impression of the hotel " what the heck is the rest of the hotel like!!!"
We were allocated our room and it was not as bad as I had expected. Although a little dated, the room was comfortable with a TV that actually had english channels ( you may laugh, but you will need it)
The all inclusive bar is GREAT, self service beer and some spirits, other spirits are served by the bar staff in very large measures and are good quality stuff. Tea and coffee are available self service also on the end of the bar all day and night, along with coke, fanta etc... Be warned, you pay 1 euro for a glass and you swap/fill it as required, money is refunded at the end of your holiday at the bar.
Food - a good selection at lunch and dinner, although if you have children who are fussy eaters you may struggle. As a last resort chips are served every meal (not breakfast)so they wont go hungry lol. Breakfast is nice, not english bacon or sausage but what the hell your on holiday, give it a try. Good selection of cereals, eggs, fruit, juices, toast, doughnuts, croisionts (excuse the spellings)
Entertainment - there is a good selection on the hotel grounds to keep you occupied although there is nothing for teenagers, my 12 & 14 year olds had nothing to do. Most of the arranged activities are for adults only and kids club is for "toddlers" so they had nothing.
Location - in the middle of nowhere. literally.
child 3 - aged 7 - it was very fun, the pool is good erm the tennis court was good and table tennis is fun. I liked the food. The beach nearby was smelly like a damp dog.
child 1 & 2 - didnt want to write (sorry!)

Submitted By: Mrs N PockettA trip to Mahon via taxi costs €15 each way but beats cramming on to the overcrowded bus - be aware that there is no bartering to be done with the market traders though and no bargains to be had what so ever.
The food was interesting and somewhat geared towards the German guests though there was always something palatable. It's true to say that what isn't eaten in one sitting, gets disguised in the next but it's edible nonetheless. Pig out at your peril!
The pool was a really good size and a big hit with our kids if a little chilly at times. Take some inflatables with you as these are a total rip off from the shop nearby.
The room was what you would expect from a 3* Menorcan hotel to be honest, a little shabby in places and in need of a little refurbishment but otherwise adequate and reasonably clean. I'd recommend fan hire - but do it through Chepa's Bar rather than Reception as it's cheaper.
The entertainment staff are 5*, they work hard and are always friendly which unfortunatley can't be said for the rest of the resort's staff, although I'm told that a lot of the staff were from mainland Spain and didn't really want to be there.
If you are happy to chill by the pool, be fed and watered constantly, this is a great place for you. Don't go there with high expectations because you will be dissapointed.

Submitted By: Mr J.J GreenhalghThere was mould in the corner of bathroom where the shower was located. Various fittings had been removed and a very poor job was made of this. The main seating area was no better with stains on the walls, the patio doors where smeared with squashed insects, the balcony had a large spiders webb in the corned with dead insects in it. There was various substances which had beed spilled on the table and left to dry whic had not been cleaned off. The top of the balcony wall had ants running along it.
The kitchen area was very dilapadated and not very clean.
Now onto the pool the overflow channel around the pool had a white plastic open mesh floor cover over it, this cover was extremley dirty with alge forming on the underside, the bottom of the overflow channel also has alge along the base of it. The pool was also very murky at times. At no time during my stay did i see the staff attemp to clean the above mentioned points on the pool.
The bar area is in need of a complete refurbishment with the damaged chairs and tables being replaced.
The restaurant appears to be the only resonably clean area of this establishment, but the food was of an extremley poor standard, with sprouts, green beans, brocli and carrots being on offer for breakfast, for evening meals there was also hamburgers, sausages and fish fingers on offer. Many of the salads on offer where coated in sauces of one type or another so that you could not see the quality of it. The cucumber on offer had a top layer of fresh cucumber covering an old layer of cucumber.
The restaraunt should be open till 10.00 in the evening but at 9.30 the staff begin to close one side down, when this happen a cleaner appears with a trolley of cleaning material sprays ect, and begins to clean down by you even if you are eating as was the case with me.
The overall conclusions to this report is AVOID this complex at all costs, spend your hard earned cash elsewhere this hotel and Thompson do not deserve the custom.

Submitted By: Mr D RichesOverall the hotel is ok, a little tired in places but reasonable.
Good Points are the pool, drinks and food selection. Yes the choice is at times unusual to some UK tastes but we never had an issue and always managed to find something different to eat.
Bad Points, room is very small and did smell of drains (although in fairness a couple of complaints to reception and the issue was sorted), entertainment wasn't great and the location is rather remote.
Do hire a car, unless you want to sit by the pool everyday and get up before 7.00am to secure a sunbed.
Would we go back - no, but it was reasonable and our experience was better than some other reviews.

Submitted By: Mrs C LoweThe apartment was a good size, clean and very safe for our adventurous two year old. It had lockable shutters on the outside so you could leave the patio doors open but he couldn't escape! We did hire two fans at the beginning of the week as it did get hot at night.
The pool was fantastic, it was huge with slopes and steps in different areas ideal again for our children, the childrens pool was a fair size and very safe.
We have bought our children up to try and eat a varied diet, so no, it was not all English food but we did not struggle at all at meal time, every meal we all ate plenty with all the choices we were offered. The service in the bar and resturant was first class, we found all the staff very friendly and helpful.
The entertainment staff worked very hard both day and night to keep all ages happy. My daughter enjoyed the kids club and the mini disco.
We had a fantastic holiday and would certainly revisit this hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs K BateTo start with the Hotel staff (not the entertainment staff) are miserable, rude and ignorant especially the guy at reception who`s basically like Basil Fawlty! The entertainment staff during day and the evening are quite freindly although they do tend to cater for the Dutch and German`s more than the small percentage of British that was staying their. I do have a good sense of humour but watching a man on stage dressed as dolly parton with 2 balloons shoved down his dress singing 9 till 5 is pathetic. The highlight of the entertainment was when a german man fell off the stage and an english girl was dancing on stage and her boobs fell out of her top. You are very isolated in this hotel so you have no choice but to stay in it.
The food is disgusting! FRANKFURTERS, CURRYWURST, BROCKWURST,SCHNITZEL, CHEESE, BREADROLLS, BEEFBURGERS NOT COOKED PROPERLY SAME AS THE CHICKEN. The drinks all tasted of alker-seltzer.
sleeping was horrendous on to couches not a sofa bed as advertised and the double bed had dirty bed linen and a hair ball in it! Bed linen was stained. We met other english families who`s opinions was exactly the same as ours and one family transferred to another hotel. It was so bad and we was that desperate we also transferred to a hotel in Son bou at the cost of £46 and 34 euros for the taxi that we had to arrange ourselves. The hotel we moved to was like a 5* compared to the dive we had just been to although it was only HB.
We have given the hotel 1* the 1* is for the pool size not the cleanliness of the pool as a child poo`d in the pool and all the staff did was fish it out with a net and didn`t bother to shut the pool to clean it. We are not snobs or fussy but this hotel is one big [--] HOLE! you have been warned!!

Submitted By: Mrs E WaltonThe rooms are clean and spacious but no air con and is very hot and stuffy at night, the rooms have a fridge which you don't have to pay for which is great, many nights my little one went to sleep with a cold bottle of water to keep him cool.
The pool is large and clean, and very safe only 1.2 meters at its deepest. there are lots of sunbeds, but if you want prime postion around the pool then you have to be up and out by 6.30, although I have to say if your children are older and do not need watching round the pool there are plenty of sunbeds around the terrace at any time of day.
The hotel seems to cater for mainly Dutch and German families (which is not stated in thompsons brochure) and we only saw the Thompson rep once on our holiday. The Dutch however are very friendly and speak very good english.
The entertainment staff really do, do a good job, Eva, Faico, Helena, and Jorone + the kids club staff all speak at least 3 different languages (more than I can say for us english) and are really talented, some of the nightly entertainment is not that brillient but they try very hard to cater for all tastes. The kids love it as they have arm painting and a mini disco, plus club dances later on at night.
We thought the food was very good, there were a few complaints from people who were expecting turkey dinosaurs and smily faces (which are not on the menu), but we had 3 course al a carte meals for lunch and dinner with a really good selection of salads, fruit and deserts, breakfast was anything that you can imagine from full english to continental.
Are kids are fussy but they never went hungary and there was always something on the menu for them to eat.
The kids clubs I was told are very good but ours never went as they only took them up to age 7.
Throughout the day there are activities for kids and adults and I never once thought that our children were left out because of a language barrier, if they wanted to go they did, ours are now singing loads of songs in spanish.
If you have booked you will have a good time, holidays are what you make them, I would not say accomodation wise this is a 3* plus hotel but food I would say it is.
Personally we as a family would not go again as althought menorca is a pretty island, there is really not very much to see or do. I would definately go all inclusive again as food and drinks are very expensive
