Hotel Description:

The large freeform pool and small children's pool can be found in the centre of the complex, encircling the pool bar. Teenagers are well looked after, with plenty of sport facilities and the games room, which takes up most of the top floor of the main building!

" Well I just come back and I had a... "

Well I just come back and I had a great time. The staff were very helpful and it was very clean.

I had my bed changed 5 days out of 7 but the 2 days they did not change the beds was their rest days.

The food was great.

I can not wait to go back.

Yes it is in the middle of nowhere but if you walk you can find one beach and you can see a lot of nice views.

It is good place to go if you have young children.

Yes you do have to pay for something like games for the children at night but you are on holiday so why not.

" We just returned from this lovely... "

We just returned from this lovely resort having had a terrific holiday. The resort is very clean with a huge pool, never too busy.

When we were there I think the hotel complex was almost full, 900 people. The hotel is mainly all inclusive but to be honest I would have preferred self catering as we would have had more choice of meal times. There was nothing wrong with the food or drink however it must be said.

The rooms we were staying in were ok but could have done with air conditioning perhaps, not too much a problem as you can hire a fan in the local bar "Chepas" at a very reasonable price. On the subject of "Chepas" bar I really feel it needs to be said the people here were truly helpful and not as some people seem to say, I think that a minority of people use this web site and perhaps others to vent anger against an establishment perhaps because they were refused service for one reason or another.

We had lovely food there and the prices were fair, the people were friendly and provided a terrific service. While we were staying we saw many people drunk on the complex and I’m sad to say most of them were British who had been drinking all day in the hotel bar.

I fully understand the bars refusing service, indeed I saw this first hand. Enough said I think.

The local beach is only 300 yards away and was very pretty, there was a nice little fish restaurant overlooking it, only thing here were the mosquitoes in the evening which drove us mad. There is not allot to do on the resort, 2 Bars/Restaurants, 2 Car hire outlets, 1 Supermarket, 2 Gift shops. This is the place to come for a relaxed holiday.

You would be advised to hire a car as the bus service was terrible, only every 4 hours.

All in all we would return as it suited us fine. My advice to anyone is to take money even although it was "All Inclusive,” you would be astonished how many people we spoke to had little or no money.

Anyway thanks to the Hotel Staff and the lovely people at Chepas.

" We had a fantastic 11-night stay at... "

We had a fantastic 11-night stay at this hotel! The food was superb - I've never been all inclusive before, so I was a bit apprehensive, but every mealtime there was loads of choices that I, my husband and my 3 quite fussy children (12, 11 and 8) liked, so we all ate really healthily all the time. Because you can only eat in the restaurant, the pool area was spotless. Maid service in the apartment was very good - towels were changed 5 times a week.

The resort itself is rather limited; the beach is not very picturesque, so if we wanted to go to the beach, we used the free shuttle bus, and took advantage of the packed lunch facility - also free.

There were plenty of Germans at the hotel, but they were friendly and pleasant, which is more than I could say for some of the English guests.

The entertainment was a bit cheesy for my taste, but got a lot better after plenty of free alcohol, which included lots of international brands such as Baileys, in extremely generous measures. The entertainment staff were fabulous and the bar, restaurant and reception staff were very polite and helpful and all spoke very good English.

I'd go back tomorrow if I could!

"  I have just returned from this so... "

I have just returned from this so called hotel, Oh my god, please I have never written a holiday review before but I feel I have to warn people going to this hotel.

We are a family 2 adults and 5 kids (kids ranging in age from 7 - 16) and this is our 12th holiday in as many years this place is a pure dump, the food is no fit to be eaten by animals let alone people.

The rooms and falling apart, and if you do make the mistake of end up here, please don’t leave anything in your room, even your cloths will vanish.

This has been the holiday from hell, in every way, it was so bad that we tried to book a flight home after 2 days, clothes were stolen from our rooms, and when we complained to the rep and the manager, they couldn't care less.

The so called entertainment was a total joke, they think it's ok to call having bingo every night entertainment, it's a joke.

Please, please if you have booked this place, ask for your money back as you will spent the whole holiday trying get a flight back home, and as for the tour operator, there licence should be taken for sending people to this place, which I might add they have given a 3 star plus rating to.

" We had a good holiday but was very... "

We had a good holiday but was very disappointed with some things. The good things were excellent but the bad were awful. Hotel very clean. Very disappointed with all inclusive, more so as the hotel is very remote and you are more or less stuck there.

Food was passable, snacks were terrible. All food served in the restaurant so you had to be covered up even to get ice cream and you had to eat it in the restaurant which you could tell upset the staff as yet more cleaning of tables a bit to formal. No pool side snacks only self service drinks.

Entertainment was offal and you had nowhere else to go as last bus left the resort at 1 and returned at 7.hotel could be more flexible with snacks throughout the day and night as nothing available after main meal at night which ended at 8.30.

So called entertainment ended at 10.30 bar open till 12 so if you are into getting drunk every night and only eat at meal times then you are laughing but like most people who chose all inclusive you have children and they tend to eat when hungry especially in the heat.

My children 4 and 9 loved the pool but hated the fact that to get an ice cream they had to dry off get dressed and sit and eat it out of bowl in the restaurant. Snacks were bread cheese jam and butter all in the restaurant. Burgers everyday either at lunch or dinner limited choice for kids but hot food only available in the restaurant at meal times. I would like to see the burgers, hot dogs chips ice cream served at the bar in a more relaxed atmosphere. Notices everywhere that you will be charged if food removed from restaurant!

Don’t get me wrong we had a very relaxing holiday both my husband and myself thought the food good, but the hotel being so remote has to buck up its ideas about all inclusive and get better entertainment as the professional shows that they had were good, but only occasional. The rest of the time it was the kids entertainers!!

Pool was massive and great except for the flies. All in all a good holiday but I would not go back to this hotel but would return to Menorca.

The hotel being so remote the all inclusive has to be bigger and better this didn’t even meet the standards of the all inclusive holidays we have had in the past for less meet and exceed.

My opinion if you are going hire a car, don’t miss breakfast or dinner as you could starve picnics that the hotel give you are ok. A note to the hotel would be a fantastic complex with approx 1000 rooms in units that are in blocks of approx 200 so you have a lot of people so provide relaxed snack by the pool which you would save money by employing one chef not a whole team of waiting staff clearing dishes, Better entertainment or a night time bus into Mahon. This has the potential to be a great resort.

We had a good holiday and have great tans as there was not a lot to do we were in bed by 11 every night as entertainment finished at 10.30 and up early but not enough to do as so remote. We like to walk in the evening this wasn’t possible as nowhere to walk to. Food is passable but all inclusive part is rubbish.

I have rated this as 5 as the good points are good but the bad balance it out so it is in the middle.

" Have just returned from the 'Mar De... "

Have just returned from the 'Mar De Menorca' and had a wonderful time. Went as a family of 2 adults and 3 children, aged 6, 3 and 1.

As other readers have mentioned I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews but cannot compliment this resort enough. It was outstandingly clean the room was spacious enough to fit us all in, however we only really slept there and sometimes went back in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.

The hotel staff were lovely, all the bar staff were friendly and liked it if you used the lingo a little, especially as so many nationalities visit this resort they need to know approx 4 different languages!! The entertainment team were so good with the children my 6 year old son loved the dancing and participated in almost all the activities with the friends he made on holiday. My other 2 children loved to watch them.

The food was plentiful, my 3 year old daughter did struggle a little with eating however she is a very picky eater, but she did love the desserts!! It must be remembered that it is an all inclusive and the holiday is very cheap so you aren't going to get luxury food every day, but its all nicely presented and every Friday night they have a gala dinner which was very nice.

The pool was fantastic, plenty of room for everyone however for our last few days it could be seen that it was going to get a lot busier. We went from the 22nd June till the 6th of July and I think we picked the best time. It was stated that it would be 50% busier during July and August, don’t be nervous of this though just get to the pool early as possible and place your towels on the sunbeds you want and no one will touch them, especially if you have little ones as there are parts of the pool that little ones can play safely alone and you can watch and relax.

The evening entertainment was fine, they went through 4 different languages every night which was fine and hats off to them for knowing them, they had outside entertainment twice a week but I preferred the in-house entertainment. At the bar there was a self serve beer tap and spirits as self serve on optics with all soft drinks, they charge 1 euro deposit for the glass so you can refill as many times as you want with the same glass or go to the bar if you want a clean glass each time and the bar staff have no problem with this.

Snacks in between meals are limited to bread and cheese a few cold meats, biscuits, ice creams etc... however I never ate in between meals as always had enough to eat at the designated meal times. You need to eat in the restaurant at all times and be covered up appropriately and wear your shoes, this I believe is what keeps the resort impeccably clean and is a very good idea, no bees or wasps flying round the sunbeds all day looking for food!! On this note take insect repellent or start on the garlic capsules 2 weeks before you go, the mosquitoes do come out at night, and I got bit more than a few times.

There is an English bar underneath the hotel which we visited once, only because we got back too late one night to eat at the restaurant and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, the owners seem to have a bit of an attitude problem and their prices are extortionate, if they lowered them a little perhaps a few more people would visit. Our apartment was opposite them and it seemed to be empty every night.

I shall end my review now by saying this complex is fabulous and I am definitely going to return when my children are a little older. I definitely have the holiday’s blues and envy everyone still to go here. Happy holidays to you all you will have a fabulous time!!

" We went as a family of 2 adults and... "

We went as a family of 2 adults and one 4 year old girl. Overall had an excellent time, everything was lovely except the food.
The resort was impeccably clean, the pool and surrounding area was spotless and the rooms were comfortable and spacious.

The children’s club was available throughout the day and although we didn't leave our daughter there we did visit with her and she had a great time. There are outdoor play areas that although well worn are in good repair and usable.

I cannot say enough good things about the entertainment staff; Carlos and his team were brilliant. They worked long hours and always managed to be full of life and give their best. Every evening there was face painting and a children’s disco which my daughter loved. After that there was entertainment that was successfully aimed at all age groups, we as a family looked forward to this and enjoyed every night.

We took the bus into town at a cost of only 1.20 euros each, we went to the local market and sampled local food which was lovely. We also went to the local bar by the beach which is just a short walk from the hotel.

The food was the only down side to this resort and the only reason I would not go back, if the food was good I would have booked again this year!

I really did love everything else that much! Our daughter struggled to find plainer food to eat and there wasn't a children’s buffet when we went (as previous reviews have mentioned) which was disappointing as this would have solved the problem.

The food was under cooked and ok if you like dogfish and frankfurters, there was the odd pasta dish that was ok, but every meal was on a tight budget and things seemed to get recycled allot. We ate out in the end.

Aside from this a lovely holiday, would recommend and would return if the food was drastically improved.

" After reading a few of the reviews on... "

After reading a few of the reviews on the internet I was a bit worried about going here. Well I am glad that we came as the complex and the hotel was first class.

The accommodation is all apartments, this was great as it gave you the extra room, our place was spotless.

The food was great, and even with me being a picky eater I found something at every mealtime, the pool was one of the biggest that I have seen, lots of sunbeds, I dare say that may change in peak season.

The Hotel was 75% Brits and the rest Dutch and Germans everyone seemed to get on great.

The entertainment was a bit iffy but our 3 year old seemed to like it, and anyway as soon as the kids show finished we went back as he was ready for bed anyway.

This complex is geared up for families.

The one downside is that the complex is out on its own, but saying that the hotel put on buses everyday to a different beach free of charge, and you could also order a packed lunch that was also free.

A local bus ran into Mahon everyday for a cost of 1 euro.

I would go back again, would recommend this complex to anyone with youngsters, and anyone watching the budget.

" We travelled to the Mar de Menorca... "

We travelled to the Mar de Menorca with a 5 yr old and 18 month baby.

On arrival I felt slightly snobbish at the gory reception area. This proved to be a perfect case of 'don't judge a book by its cover'.

True the resort is in middle of nowhere, very quiet, bar closes at 12pm - with 2 small kids perfect! Who wants louts singing all night anyway?

The free bus is perfect for a day out with the family to various sandy beaches which were beautiful. The kids loved the idea of the bus and a day out. Also, where ever you go only takes around half an hour!

The staff were very helpful, the rooms and pool area were spotless, honestly.

We stayed for 10 days and wish it would have been more.

In fact we are going again this year and have managed to recruit friends to come too!

So value for money - a definite and resounding YES!

" We stayed there last year and had a... "

We stayed there last year and had a fantastic holiday, the downside for us it was only a week and not two.

The resort hotel has a good mix of people, Dutch, Spanish, British etc, no complaints there, if the Spanish choose to go there can’t be bad.

The pool is massive with plenty of sun beds, lovely gardens too. The food is very good for an all inclusive resort but after a day or two is good to have a change and try a local bar/restaurant or two.

Yes there is life outside the hotel if you care to look further than your nose. If I had any complaint with the resort it would be with some of the British not the resort itself, people would complain for no reason really.

Yes the bar in the hotel closed at midnight when the shows stopped but is this so bad, if you want to have a late drink or snack why not try the local bars like we did, to be honest we had many good nights at a bar called Chepas.

People seemed reluctant to spend any money because they were "All Inclusive", I understand this to a degree but come on, your on holiday and why come with no money, for most of us this is a once a year event and we are going to have fun.

The local area is pretty and the local’s friendly, the nearby beach is small, sandy and safe, great for snorkelling. You may need to hire a car if you want to see the Island, its well worth seeing too, like Devon & Cornwall but with sun.

You can even hire a car for three days if you want, we found Europa next to Chepas bar the best place, we forgot our driving licences, and they solved the problem. We can’t say enough things about the place, we so loved the place were going to return this year, this time for two week.

Finally there were some people saying the beach was dirty and smelly, yes maybe from time to time but I think they forget there in a biosphere wildlife reserve, the Island is fantastic for wildlife and government do not allow chemicals to be used on the beaches for obvious reasons, as we found out.

I would sooner have that at least we can enjoy the fish swimming in the sea and the birds singing in the trees.

Anyway if you want a lovely holiday in superb location this is the place for you, if you want noise and wild nights perhaps not. Hope this helps.

" Had a fantastic holiday in this... "

Had a fantastic holiday in this lovely resort, there was four of us in total, aged 48, 46, 18, 17. When we arrived we were delighted, the complex was clean and well kept, pool was massive and the gardens were green with had lovely palm trees. The rooms were clean and the maids did a great job, we did miss our own bed but too big to bring.

The board here was All Inclusive, the food was good although after a few days became a bit boring, they catered I think more for the Dutch taste rather than the Brits. The drinks obviously were free too, we thought when we booked this would be a bonus but again after awhile we all got fed up with drinking cheap brands. This was just us I think as the bar was always full. We were here for 2 weeks and think we did our fair share of exploring, there were so many places to see and things to do we could not list them all. one this that is needed is a car. We hire one for just a few days and visited places like Mahon the capitol, good for girlie shopping I was told, not a lot for us men folk.

We also visited the beaches, one of which was Son Bou, truly lovely, the sands went on for ever. There was a beach in Canutells, this was very pretty and only about 200 yards from the hotel. Directly above the beach was a restaurant called Bar Canutells, we did eat there once but to be honest once was too much, enough said I think. There was another bar/restaurant under hotel called Chepas, we had a lovely meal there on our third night, the family who ran it were so helpful and friendly. We found Chepas Bar to be a real oasis, fantastic selection of dare I say British food and beers, yes I know it sounds sad to come to Spain to eat British food but it takes all sorts.

One thing I did notice at Chepas Bar was the number of people trying to bring there own drinks in from the hotel, it made me feel ashamed to see how some Brits behave on holiday. Would they try this in the UK, I think not. Why go to a bar if you don’t want to buy anything. Near Chepas was two car hire outlets, two gift shops and a supermarket, all you needed was close at hand. There was a fair mix of people at the resort, British, Dutch, German, Irish and even Spanish. The shows provided every night at the hotel were ok although were aimed at the younger generation. At midnight everything stopped and most toddled off to bed, not us, we could be found in Chepas.

Our 2 week holiday flew by, wish we could do it all over again now. We had a great holiday here in Canutells, yes we would come back again. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel and the people at Chepas Bar.

" Myself, my husband and our 3 children... "

Myself, my husband and our 3 children visited the resort recently and were extremely disappointed. This was our third holiday all inclusive, and because of this experience would probably never risk it again. The food was varied so long as you arrived early before the good stuff ran out and you liked onion rings for breakfast! The dining times are very limited and if you’re in a larger party tables are few and far between. My youngest daughter of 6 only ate pasta and cheese the entire week so we decided dining out when she began to be ill, which is easier said than done with only 2 other restaurants in the resort.

As there were 5 of us we needed to use a camp bed. We arrived at approx 2100hrs on the sat evening. After 5 requests at reception the bed finally arrived at 2300hrs on the sun, meaning we had to share beds which was apparently not allowed, but no other choice was offered.

The beach is absolutely filthy! It stinks of a mixture of sewage and dead fish, but if you can get past that and sit down for a while you have the added treat of hundreds of sand mites biting you!

There is absolutely nothing else to do on the resort so we booked a trip out with Thomson to a water park. After an hour on the bus we were told we would not be allowed in the water because of thunder. After hanging around for around 1 & 1/2 hours we were finally allowed in but the reps were a waste of time. They had no idea what was going on at all.

The only thing the place has going for it is the pool. That is one of the best I've seen and seems to be kept very clean. There's an area for every standard of swimmer and a reasonable amount of sun beds.

But overall, stay away!

" Prior to going to the Mar De Menorca... "

Prior to going to the Mar De Menorca I read the reviews on this web page, along with my wife. From the comments made she thought it might be wise to change resorts as the last minute. I persuaded her to try the hotel first. I am so glad I did.

In my opinion some of the comments were justified but we, along with our two boys, found it to be a most excellent holiday. Yes, there were all nationalities, mainly Dutch, Germans, Spanish, English and Italian but I found the majority of these to be polite and friendly, one of them coming straight up to me to shake my hand and make conversation.

The food was very good and catered for everyone. If the other reviewers had a problem with the different foods I suggest that they go to either Blackpool or Magaluf.

There were comments about not being able to have snacks late at night but we found that we were full after the last meal and never needed anything. We had heard so many bad comments about the Chepas bar that we never sampled it. Apparently the owners were rude and aggressive towards guests. I believe others with first hand knowledge of this will be commenting further.

The entertainment at night was good but sometimes needed that little bit extra. The daytime and evening entertainment staff worked extremely hard throughout the day and were faultless. Thanks to Ruud, Cindy, Monica and Martijn.

I also found the idea of paying a Euro for a deposit on a glass very useful although, during our second week i was made aware of a couple of older children who were bullying the younger ones into giving them theirs so they could pocket the money.
The apartments were very clean and the maids were excellent but they never came on the days expected, sometimes quite a shock for both of us!

The hotel is very remote but the small cove is lovely for snorkelling. There is enough to do on the site so as not to get bored as the mini clubs took the children whilst we had time to relax.

Finally, we met a great deal of friends, of all nationalities who we hope to see again. I’m not normally a person to return to a place but, three days after returning, we have booked for next year. See you there.

" The Mar de Menorca is a reasonable... "

The Mar de Menorca is a reasonable quiet hotel in the middle of nowhere. The entertainers were really good with the kids and provided entertainment during the day and night although it finished at 11pm and the bar shut at 12:30am!

My dad went to watch some football matches at chepas bar just down the road and was told to hurry up with his drink or it would be turned off and if you wanted cigarettes you had to buy a drink.

The beach down the road was horrible. It smelled of the sewers, the beach was a bluey grey colour and there was no room. The hotel was packed with Germans which was a disaster. The pool was quite good but it was freezing and there were no lifeguards which I found appalling. The hotel provided a free bus to different beaches each day. I would strongly recommend Son Bou.

You can’t get any good English channels on the TV so you had to watch German or Spanish which was boring.

I enjoyed the holiday but I wouldn’t go back again.

" Have just returned from an excellent... "

Have just returned from an excellent holiday. Three adults (in their late 30's) and 4 children (13, 2 x 11, 7) in the group. And we all agree it was a great holiday.
Rooms were clean and more than adequate - bedding and towels were supposed to be changed every other day but they were changed daily and the rooms were cleaned every day.

The television did show English videos twice a day - but we did not turn our TV on - the weather and the entertainment made sure of that. Although all inclusive the rooms had a small kitchenette and a refrigerator - great for the bottled water and the after sun!

All inclusive - great. Meal times were interesting with other holidaymakers jumping queues and pushing in but for those who have holidayed with other Europeans will understand it's their way - like ours is to queue. Providing you can cope with this then it was fun. Food was well cooked and well presented. Breakfast was the only meal you could call repetitive - but then at home I only ever have toast or cereal - and consisted of cold meats, cheeses, cereal, fry up, boiled and scrambled eggs, toast (with at least 7 types of bread), cakes, yogurts and fresh fruit. Repetitive?

Dinner - There was always soup (2 varieties differing every day) Salads, vegetables, 2 types of meat, fish, chips and pasta (again 2 types of sauce). Desserts consisted of fresh fruit, cheese, flans, pastries and a variety of ice-cream. Kids had their own buffet and it usually had 2 types of meat (burgers, chicken nuggets, fish fingers etc) and plain vegetables broccoli, beans cauli etc...

Lunch - a slimmed down version of the above - considering I usually have a sandwich this was more than I would usually have any way.

They did close the restaurant for 20 minutes before lunch and dinner to enable the staff to tidy up and lay out the relevant meal. I am glad that all food was served in the restaurant throughout the day it ensured the poolside and bars were free of discarded or spilt food. Also ensuring that the wasps and bugs were kept at bay.

The drinks were free from 10.00a.m. til midnight so no problems there. Entertainment was entertaining - with the reps speaking in at least four languages so we could all follow. There were professional shows and those hosted by the reps and they were all to a high standard. Daytime activities were many an varies - water aerobics, ping pong, archery, darts, football, t-shirt painting etc.. and all were aimed at varying age groups. There is also free crazy golf and bike hire - although we did not take up the bike hire as we felt the roads were too narrow and windy for the children.

I do agree that you can fee cut off as Canutells is a very small village and when we go again we will hire a car for several days. Saying that the local bus service runs to Mahon three times a day and only takes 15 minutes and costs 1.20 euro. The hotel also runs free buses to several local beaches including Son Bou, Punta Prima and Cal n Porta.

At the end of the day a holiday is what YOU make it. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be going again.
