" WOW! Me and a friend decided to take... "
Submitted By: Mrs L HooperIt was mine my friends first time to Rhodes and Stegna is beautiful. The beach was gorgeous and is just across the road from Stegna Mare, the sea was lovely and ideall for cooling down in!! For a friendly reception away from the Stegna Star (the taverna by Stegna Mare), I would have to recommend going a short stroll away to En Plo, the service we received in here was excellent and everyone who worked there was very friendly. If you're an early bird, or even if you're not, you have to get up early one morning and watch the sunrise, it is lush!! And don't worry about going back to your apartment, just have a nap on the beach and you're set up for the day!! There is a bus into Rhodes town and costs just 7euros return, however, there is only 1 bus a day!
Stegna is the ideal place for couples, and I am hoping to take my husband there soon, but that aside, it is also nice for families and if you just want to get away and relax, not really suitable if you're after a hectic nightlife though, there did appear to be a small club there, but this only opened on a Friday and Saturday night, but we didn't go!! Maybe next time!!
If you decide to go, I'm certain you will have a wonderful time, and I will certainly be going again!! Enjoy!!

Submitted By: katieamyWe could not have chosen anywhere more suitable that Stegna. The whole resort was spotlessly clean and peaceful. There is no through road once you get down to the resort and are only a few buses daily.
The accomodation was brilliant, I have been to Greece and her Islands many, many times and have not come across anywhere so clean. The Owners Charlie and Tsambika were more than helpful, and the room was cleaned throughly every day (except Senday), the bed linen and towel were changed 6 out of the 7 days of our stay.
There is a Taverna next door at the Stegna Star Apartments and is just as clean and friendly, definately not noisy except on the Greek night which finished around 11 anyway.
I would recommend this location and accomodation to anyone who loves the true feel of Greece and wishing for a typically unspoilt and peaceful Greek holiday. I am hoping to go back later in the season with my husband, maybe then we will hire a car and go to do some sight seeing.

Submitted By: Mr I StewartYou are right on the beach and Charlie will sort you out with a longer for a few euro. All his family are very nice and can't do enough for you. Very, very nice people.
The restaurant is fine, not the best in the resort, but fine. Try Kozas. A class apart from every other restaurant in Stegna.
Stegna is great. Quiet enough to relax and busy enough to have fun. The sea was fantastic and snorkling is a must. I would return again except for one problem.
The studios are only available through Kosmar. Simply the worst company I have ever traveled with. Incompetent reps and their parent company XL make Ryanair seem like Quantas. Charlie, please move your fantastic apartments to another company.

" We cant think of anything bad about... "
Submitted By: Ms Kerry GrayWe where not happy with Kosmars trick of saying you get 7 nights and finding out that the first night you have paid for you are actually stiill in the UK. We arrived at 06.30am and the room we where allocated was occupied. We where put into another room and told we would be moved later but told our rep we did not want to move so where allowed to stay, that meant i could unpack.on our last day we had to vacate our room ( or pay another 30 euros) at midday, but the coach was not picking us up until 03.45. We where told there was somewhere to store our bags but there wasn't ( we where lucky enough to have met Diane and Dom who looked after our bags in their apartment most of the night) we then had to sit outside for 15.45 hours. Luckily the owners of the taverna next door , the stegna star, allowed us to sit in the restuarant patio all night. by the way if you eat in the Stegna star i reccommend the fish, i asked for shrimps and got massive great big prawns, the biggest i'd ever seen, put me off ordering the lobster a bit !!!!! all in all its a holiday i would reccommend and we will definately be going again next year.

" What an absolute chill out holiday.... "
Submitted By: mahargesrunThe Stegna Mare apartments are 30 feet from the beech, and what a beautiful beech it is. Snorkelling and swimming in the crystal clear and warm sea are a must. The apartment block appears to be new, as does all the fixtures and fittings, but are in fact 5 years old!
Charlie and his wife Tsambika are the owners and are perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble, and cleanliness is order of the day, every day. Bed linen is changed daily, and towels every other day.
This tiny resort is what Greek island holidays is all about. Unspoilt in every way, with Greek being the dominant language by all, as is the food. Please let us keep this resort just the way it is, with the charm and beauty of Real Greece.
This resort is a million miles away from the likes of Faliraki, and Lindos, which are good in their own right, especially just for a visit.

" We went to Stegna for the second week... "
Submitted By: dakdoraStegna Beach was beautiful. Great for snorkelling and swimming. The resort itself must rank as one of the best on the island. It is very unspoilt and pretty, although there is not alot to do and see in the resort itself, no nice strolls at night, a week was great for us but two would have been boring, unless you hired a car to take you out and about or love purely beach holidays. There was no ATM machine there so we had to go into Archangelos to find one. We got the bus but walked back as Archangelos has no taxis.
There were a number of restaurants. The food in the Stegna Star, next door, was excellent but at night it was very brightly lit and lacked atmosphere so we opted for the En Plo (turn left as you come out of the studio block and it's the first one). It was pretty, very cosy and the food was fabulous. The waiters were really friendly and quite patient as we tried out our smattering of Greek!
The only down side to the studios was that the Sterna Mare is adjacent to the Stegna Star so, on that side, all the balconies and patios face each other so there was no much privacy and certainly no nice view!! This isn't apparent on any of the advertising 'photos we'd looked at before we booked.
However, I recommend this holiday to anyone who wants a peaceful, relaxing holiday with excellent accommodation, an excellent beach, in a very friendly and peaceful resort.

" Stegna - lovely little resort -... "
Submitted By: Mrs Melodie ColeUnfortunately, Stegna itself does not have a decent restaurant. They are all ok, but nothing really special and EVERY taverna serves food with rice and chips! We and several people we spoke to were craving vegetables by the 5th day of hols.
We have travelled extensively in Greece and this resort served the most disappointing food of anywhere we've been. Even the Greek dishes come with rice and chips - YUK.
We did find the resort charming, peaceful and quiet - which is just the way we like things however, from reading other reviews were led to believe there was only one bar - Mercedes - but we discovered several other bars - The Blue Window - Porto Vecchio, Jacks and every Taverna serves just a drink if that's what you want. the Blue Window (up a short steep hill just before Porto Vecchio) was absolutely lovely - the right sort of music and delightful staff. Porto Vecchio - happy hour each evening 2 for 1 overlooking a charming tiny harbour - the restaurant above serving decent food (still with rice and chips though!) Jacks - cocktail bar on the sea front near Mercedes - serving everything from cocktails to wine, beer etc etc and Mercedes - to be honest we only went in for one drink and were very disappointed - obviously catering for John Smiths and Guinness drinkers - this isn't what we go on holiday for and we certainly don't need entertaining with karaoke like a couple of overgrown children.
All in all, Stegna is very quiet and very pretty - the locals all take pride in their properties and we met some fantastic people whilst we were there (which always helps). Who knows, we may go back one day - it's certainly peaceful and not for party animals.

" We have been travelling to Greece for... "
Submitted By: Mrs S KamaraTsambika ,Charlie and Maria are the loveliest family, they will do anything for you. The apartments are spotless you cannot fault them, as we were leaving Tsambika gave me a gift wrapped up which really touched me.
The restaurant at the bottom of the drive is excellent and the staff too. We tried as many restaurants as we could fit in in 14 nights and they were all excellent . Porto Vecchio was our favourite. They made fantastic cocktails two for one at happy hour and Stavros and Jimmy were the loveliest people you could ever meet.
If you are looking for party nights this is not the place for you but total relaxation is all you will get at Stegna. Tsambika cleans the apartments every day and I have never been any were in Greece and smelt bleach in the toilets!! beds and towels changed every day except Sunday. The beds are the most comfortable ever, and its so quiet the only thing I could fault it for is the fact that I never woke up before 10am so felt cheated to miss the beautiful sunshine. The sea is crystal clear and Charlie takes great pride in keeping the beach spotless.
We cant wait to go back already looking at returning next year if not this. Fantastic. Thank you Sharon & Alan x

" Second time at Stegna. First time... "
Submitted By: Mr Colin HandCharlie and Tsampika genuinely could not do enough to make your holiday comfortable. The rooms are cleaned every day thoroughly with towels every other day.
Well equipped rooms with television and hair dryer and safe (extra)
Most tavernas and bars very good especially Mercedes where there is always a welcome as well as the owner Kristoff on his guitar a la Clapton.
Sea and beach lovely with ample sun beds and plenty of large rocks nearby to ensure excellent snorkelling.
Stegna Star Apartments next door are equally as good including their own bar/restaurant which is truly excellent (especially the staff) All told, an excellent holiday but not suitable for Faliraki types!

The beach in Stegna is great, there is a small amount of shingle as you enter the sea but once in, it's not a problem. I'm not a great swimmer but felt fairly confident up to about 10 metres out. Plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas at 6 Euros for 2 people.
The Restaurants in Stegna were very good, we found the Stegna Star and En Plo excellent - don't miss the Greek Night at Stegna Star on a Thursday, it was really special.
We rented a car for 4 days so that we could see a bit more of Rhodes and managed to traverse the whole of the east side of the Island. We found Lindos a bit "Touristy" and didn't spend more than a couple of hours there. The Kalithea Thermal Spa is definitely worth a visit - lots of information in the museum part and some spectacular views too. However, you do have to pay an entrance fee. (Make sure you follow the signs to the toilets and you'll stumble across the rest of the place!) I think the best place we visited was Prassonissi Beach, down at the southern tip of Rhodes. On the right of the beach was the Aegean Sea and to the left the Med. (Depending on your view-point.) Lots of windsurfing going on down there but if you climb to the top of the hill you can see some fantastic scenery. I might add that you should keep to the tracks left by other cars otherwise you could find yourself in a sandy grave - not easy to get out of without assistance! A 4 wheeled vehicle might be of benefit here! We laughed about it afterwards in one of the local Tavernas but to be honest, without some help from German tourists pushing us out, we would have been well stuck! We've been to Rhodes Town before, on a previous visit so didn't bother this time but it's well worth a visit.
All in all, we had a great time at Stegna, met some wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Don't go there if you want the "Bright Lights" of Rhodes, it's a laid back sort of place, not often found on a holiday!
